JAY I WAS WATCHING AMER. PICKERS, THEY PICKED THIS HOUSE AND THEY BOUGHT CASES OF THOSE HEADLIGHT COVERS LIKE ON THIS CAR, ABOUT 200 OF THEM STILL IN THE ORIG. BOXES, IT WAS MIKE WOLFE,HE GOT THEM SO CHEAP ALSO, I NEVER SAW THEM BEFORE THIS VIDEO, WOULD NOT HAVE KNOWN WHAT THEY WERE FOR, PRETTY COOL FIND. SAME SIZE AS THESE.
Right on! History plays a huge role in this passion, especially in a place like Newport, RI! Be sure to check out the rest of our Audrain Mansions & Motorcars series here: ua-cam.com/video/1c35qB-VK3g/v-deo.html and enjoy some videos of Donald driving the cars in the Audrain Collection here: ua-cam.com/video/-Mr-TjCT7iw/v-deo.html
I absolutely love this series. It reminds us that there was a civilized age in the US, before the crass, rude society that we know today became normalized. Thank you for this.
I loved the differences in personal style; Osborne in his sport coat and bowtie, Leno in his tee shirt. Both having an appreciation for similar things; elegant automobiles and architecture. Great intro with Jay grabbing a slice while Donald opts for a five star dining experience. Shows the shared comedic flair of both.
JAY…..You’re killin me grinding gears on STRAIGHT BOX transmissions. DOUBLE CLUTCH upshifting and downshifting. Gears will synchro automatically when the clutch is let out when in neutral. It works.
Love it. After you finish the mansions and motor cars you’ll have to come up with another series, these are great. Restaurants and race cars? Automobiles and artwork? New England scenic drives in scenic rides? I can keep going haha
+1.. "A Ferrari and a Pinto." .. The Chairman of Ford II is rolling in his grave with hearing that analogy; Ferrari VS Pinto. . Great discussion's gents! .. Subscribed.
Ronald my father could not afford to own a car, yet during the second world war he drove army trucks and motorcycles the length of Africa from Cape Town to Alexandria in Egypt, through mud, deserts and bush for five years. He ended up driving a Thames for a dry cleaning company. He died at 48 years old, happy with his achievements and family. I was 22 years old when I could afford my first car a 1951 Ford Anglia.Thank you dad.
I do so appreciate these segments. Coming from a family of gear heads and garage owners right from the early1900's, I get (we all get) to learn vehicles and their history that one would never otherwise experience. And the properties and views as well. I thank you. From this Canadian.
I grew up near Lynnewood Hall the Wideners estate in the Suburbs of Philadelphia. The home is beautiful, but completely rundown, glad to see Miramar going strong.
Congratulations for putting on another wonderful show. Built with style, great class and history the average enthusiast would not normally be able to enjoy. Thank you.
I love to see these two in action. "Miramar" built for the Widener family in 1915 is amazing. Horace Trumbauer created a 42,000 sq ft version of this house for Anna Dodge in Grosse Point Farms, MI named "Rose Terrace" built in 1931 that was sadly demolished when the family could no longer afford to maintain the estate after her death in the early 1970's. Miramar is about 30,000sq ft, sold to its second owner in about 1971 for $110,000. The third and possibly current owner payed over $20M unrestored if my memory serves... Keep up the fantastic work gentlemen, I can't make up my mind if I like the mansions or cars better...LOVE this series...
Hi Jay , I miss seeing you at the pollo loco almost daily for years in sun valley where I worked ,I never botherd you for the respect we have for you . love your rides sir.
What is amazing to me is that 1) Mr. Leno can speak with insight about a car while performing the required dexterity of driving that car, and 2) Mr. Osborne can elegantly and continuously speak while Mr. Leno is sometimes not so dexterous -- Like skidding to a stop.
The Packard and Rolls are magnificent automobiles, but that Cadillac is still the king of cool. The guys really nailed it: they're driveable cars today, with all the old world charm and style. Also, I'd suggest advertising or at least mentioning this series over on Jay Leno's Garage channel- I'm sure a lot of the viewership over there would probably enjoy these videos as well! Keep up the great work on this series.
Thanks, Don and Jay.........some nice History, and overviews,,. Interestingly, that American Rolls Royce story sounds extremely interesting: and the creations ( cars)........Incredible Miramar ESTATE:.....*& all that Story with Titanic, Architecture, and splendor,.......
Love seeing this in my backyard. You can do NewPort anytime of the year. You guys are Great together and have the history. Tunning in and going for the rides.
When I was a teen, we had a '63 Fleetwood. It was really very pleasant to drive and remarkably reliable. The only repair that it had was a water pump replacement.
LOL when Jay said the old Caddies made great planters. I was a 1/7 owner of a 1937 Packard (the long gangster model) that had served as a chicken coop in the more recent time before we acquired it. After a month or so of hard labors getting it clean, our Syndicate with a short attention span (HS sophomores) ran out of energy and the Packard went back to the woods never to be seen again Dark blue, suicide doors, jump seats, aluminum block, porcelain manifold. Too bad we did not have the where-with-all (tenacity and money) to finish the job. It would have been fun to have.
Newport! A wonderful place. I have been going there since the original Jazz festivals, then later to the sailboat shows and more recently to a cousin's multiple Naval "Change of Command " ceremonies. I've stayed at some of the nicest places including one night on the rocks by the ocean. I was returning home from Boston on my Raleigh Super Course TT bicycle with orange American Youth Hostel Pannier bags. I had just finished leading a group of teenagers 30 days on the road from Springfield Ma. Through Vermont, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts. To date myself we were on Martha's Vineyard while Universal Studios was filming the original Jaws. On our last visit we became enchanted with the compact Audrain display next to the Tennis Courts. We would love to go back but these are tough times for travel.
A guy could make a good living trimming hedges in Newport. The hedges around there are amazing. I’ve trimmed many throughout my years, so it’s probably something only a few people noticed.
Parking, etc. was aided by being able to see all for corners from the driver's seat. I remember my mother's '64 Continental with the export suspension and the "performance axle" 3.11 to one. It was faster than my friends father's '64 de Ville. After that, I'll take the fifth.
Thanks.... ** more about SUSPENSION, & axle rations?? I am remembering LINCOLNS *& special TOURING/ HIGHWAY STUFF ?? I always appreciate , comments & experiences...more should contribute...I remember that 64;CONTI( I,grad HS IN 1965, @ WOLF LAKE HS, NOBLE COUNTY INDIANA)::::: though lots of summer Wealth around LAKE WAWASEE/Lake Webster IND)*& lots of CARS!!
have had the privilege of being born and raised 10 mins from Newport, in the adjacent town....it a lil expensive, but Newport was just rated the number 3 best continental US Beach town...and more... can't bring myself to leave
I've owned Cadillac's my whole life. My favorite, and first, was a 1969 Sloop De Barge. A gift from my grandmother after my grandfather passed away in 1982. It had a 505ci V8 with a Carter 2bbl carb. "Maybe" 200hp. It got 12mpg on regular and 15mpg on Ethyl. Though Ethyl never approved..... I have a 2019 CTS-V now. The difference in 50 years of automotive technology is hilarious! Half the weight, FOUR times the horsepower and almost Twice the fuel economy! Waiting for a 2023 Tesla Model S Plaid+ as my next and possibly last car.
There were so many things that had to go wrong for the Titanic to sink. The California shut down their radio at 9:00. Meanwhile they were closest ship. The man who had the keys to the locker that held the binoculars left. Recently I heard that the captain kept going forward, after they hit the iceberg. Supposedly it was because they saw a ship in the distance but knows how much longer the Titanic would have stayed afloat.
You are so in touch with the emotions of cars you should put them in order by which one feels the worst all the way to the best then base the value on where they are in the order
I can tell you from driving a Tesla Model 3 2019, that car is just a robot. There is no soul, no true feel, no analog input, it just feels as if it’s a device driving itself. I just don’t understand how they are seen as enthusiast vehicles when driver input is almost nonexistent.
All intelligent people from these times knew women could not exceed 30 mph or their uterus would be flung out. Facts, folks. You can't make this stuff up.
Thankyou both. A very sad story behind the building of "Miramar " . Jay , what makes you think the Packhard looks modern against the Rolls Royce baffles me. Was the engine an inline 6 or V 12 in the RR ? The interior shots of the house could easily have been of the "Titanic" . I would love to seen the inside of "Miramar "as it is today . I suppose the closest we had in England in 1964 was the Jaguar MK X. Oh , and the " e"type , oh, and the Beatles ! Thanks Guys .
It is so good to see two people sitting next to each other in a car and not wearing a mask! I am so tired of seeing people´s faces hidden behind these hideous masks! If I had a choice of the cars presented in this video, I´d go for the Rolls. It has a rather quiet chic to it, very unlike the Cadillac!
The '63 looks similar, but it is a better looking, more bold version. I had the convertible, navy like this one and I used to drive it in Newport. At night on the highway, the red tail lights were 2 feet tall.
At one time we had a 1954 gmc pickup with the 270 cid in line 6. My dad had it running so smooth that it was hard when outside the car to ell it was running. So just do uble that to 12 cyl.
I'm surprised the term land yacht didn't come up. I had a 76 cougar with that 8' foot long hood. Overall not as long as the caddy but not much shorter either.
Doesn't get any better than Jay Leno and Donald Osborne. Ying and yang
They really are both better when together. Not sure why Jay is shouting so loudly in this one.
@@bluebox2000 he may be losing his hearing
Makes Jay look cheap definitely Ying & Yang.
The microphone setup is to blame.
Oscar and Felix
Best history car show ever
Donald Osborne is a fountain of automotive information. Can't get enough of him.
I’m glad they showed the motor off this time!
These two r the best the knowledge between them is of the charts great laughs learn something 🙂 Migwech from Toronto 🇨🇦🙂
I had forgotten how elegantly beautiful the 64 Caddy was.
It's so great to see Jay enjoying life.
At least one of us is.
Very cool !!!!!!!!! 👍👍👍👍👍
Rip David. Love this video story. Two car guys appreciating times gone past. Such a great way to chill and isolate from the polarization of the times.
Agreed.
JAY I WAS WATCHING AMER. PICKERS, THEY PICKED THIS HOUSE AND THEY BOUGHT CASES OF THOSE HEADLIGHT COVERS LIKE ON THIS CAR, ABOUT 200 OF THEM STILL IN THE ORIG. BOXES, IT WAS MIKE WOLFE,HE GOT THEM SO CHEAP ALSO, I NEVER SAW THEM BEFORE THIS VIDEO,

As an enthusiast, I’m learning to appreciate the history of automotive classics that many car shows didn’t cover…need to stream this👏👏

What a wonderful series....my two favorite interests together along side my two favorite Hosts.......
Bravo 🎉 🙌 bravo 👏 leno&osborne🍷🥃 love the informal &informative banter!
MY DADS ENGINE IN HIS 69 COUPE DE VILLE WAS A 479, 375 H.P, NOT REALLY VERY FAST BUT SO SMOOTH AND
PLENTY OF TORQUE FOR SURE. IT JUST PURRED.
I absolutely love this series. It reminds us that there was a civilized age in the US, before the crass, rude society that we know today became normalized. Thank you for this.

AUDRAIN MUSEUM NETWORK IS THE Ph.D VERSION OF JAY LENO'S GARAGE. 👍
Right, right right, riiight, great commentary from Leno
I love Osborne SO MUCH! What a wonderful human!
I love the passion for elegance. What fun.
JAY…..You’re killin me grinding gears on STRAIGHT BOX transmissions. DOUBLE CLUTCH upshifting and downshifting. Gears will synchro automatically when the clutch is let out when in neutral. It works.

I like your suggestion of "New England scenic drives in scenic rides."

For the record his name is Donald.
Oh and nice story.
A misunderstanding here Ronald was my father's name, my comment refer to him and nobody else.
Ronald my father. Sorry complete brain fart on my part. Duh.
Fun episode, that's a sweet Caddy!
Awsome. Love your show Jay
I love watching Jay just interact. It's an art the way these older comedians can just be funny without even thinking about lol
I do so appreciate these segments. Coming from a family of gear heads and garage owners right from the early1900's, I get (we all get) to learn vehicles and their history that one would never otherwise experience. And the properties and views as well. I thank you. From this Canadian.
Extraordinary history and thanks to Donald Osborne and Jay Leno for an amazing video for the ages! Superb!

Great, These 2 work great together, Makes a good combination.
Look forward to watching all Jay's n Donald's content.
Thanks for the good work (:
I love the “droopy eyelids” like it’s the automobile exemplification of Deputy Dog…”I’m Deputy Dog. Woof. Woof.”
🤣🤣🤣 🖖😎👍
My Grandmother was born in deep, rural East Texas in 1909, and she was sure she never saw a car until she was 8 or 9 years old.
Great job

It's good to be back
This is definitely my new favorite series!
As always a great watch. Thank you guys.

Love them 2ctogeather great
This thumbnail alone makes this one of the most exciting videos I'll have to watch. Can't wait to sit down to catch the full thing!
Awesome cars , I had a 57 Ford 4 door wagon 3 on the tree I had to parallel park to get my drivers license 😀 Thanks for the video
that caddy is beautiful...id even settle for a base model
Mr OSBOURNE Looks Very Sophisticated and Smart.... Classy with Classic Cars
The other fellow is a talking encyclopedia!! Amazing.
I love this show
A wonderfully entertaining program.
I went to the prom in a 1962 Caddie. It was fun. The radio had tubes in it and you had to wait for it to warm up.
And those old tube radios sounded magnificent as well.
A TEASER?! I need new old car videos now!
Great seeing you guys on the east coast, i used to deliver auto parts at Woburn Foiregn Motors in the early 80sl maybe we bumpef into you 😀
Beautiful classic car! 😘🚗😀 Mike from Missouri
These videos are great . More please.
There are a couple Springfield Rollses plus Indian motorcycles and a lot more at the Springfield MA Museum, really several museums in a square.
Love seeing this in my backyard. You can do NewPort anytime of the year. You guys are Great together and have the history. Tunning in and going for the rides.
Awsome video
Love the sleepy eyelids
Must see car guy show ! Donald Osborne & Leno.
Sorry about your friend. Condolensces to you and his family.
Thanks for the great video about these wonderful cars.

My very first car was 1965 Coupe DeVille. It was loaded -- power everything, climate control, the 429. Man I wish I still had that car.
A guy could make a good living trimming hedges in Newport. The hedges around there are amazing. I’ve trimmed many throughout my years, so it’s probably something only a few people noticed.
Nice! Put my feet up, sip my tea, and taken off to another land!
Driving can be an experience or simply using a tool. I prefer the experience.
I agree. Unfortunately most modern cars offer the experience of a tool.
Parking, etc. was aided by being able to see all for corners from the driver's seat. I remember my mother's '64 Continental with the export suspension and the "performance axle" 3.11 to one. It was faster than my friends father's '64 de Ville. After that, I'll take the fifth.

Really wanted to see the Rolls-Royce drive down Ocean Drive. Jay got short changed not being able to drive that one!

No why do you want tesla to have battery schizophrenia electric cars are so horrible.
Easy Jay, she's probably got straight cut gears. Double clutch, double clutch.

This is such an odd format combining mansions and cars. I enjoy it nonetheless.
I think it's a New England and especially a Newport thing. If you've never been to Newport, RI it's worth the trip.
The rumor is that over 60 mph or mile a minute, you can't breathe! Don't do it if you value your life.
You are so in touch with the emotions of cars you should put them in order by which one feels the worst all the way to the best then base the value on where they are in the order

A Springfield, MA made Rolls-Royce! Nice to see that.
All intelligent people from these times knew women could not exceed 30 mph or their uterus would be flung out.
Facts, folks. You can't make this stuff up.

I hope Dave was around to see these wonderful cars in his driveway.
I’m lucky to be only an hour+ away from Newport
Stop by the museum for a visit sometime!
Would I be correct in thinking you guys are having fun. "Exactly!"
That right front wheel...😳
At 2:05 "it's not ungainly or ugly" like the van behind Jay as he speaks.
The odd couple is back!
The 1916 Packard 2 tone paint reminds me of Bugatti color scheme still a great looking car
Anyone else catch that Lincoln Highway Moto-Meter? 😍
I built my first car made from 2 x4 wood and used an electric starter from an abandon 6 volt truck..ahead of my time in 54 lol
At one time we had a 1954 gmc pickup with the 270 cid in line 6. My dad had it running so smooth that it was hard when outside the car to ell it was running. So just do uble that to 12 cyl.
There is an article about an Allen Swift from Connecticut who was given a Piccadilly from his father in 1928. Is that the car?
I'm surprised the term land yacht didn't come up. I had a 76 cougar with that 8' foot long hood. Overall not as long as the caddy but not much shorter either.
Shifting grinds each time.
No synchromesh back in the day. Double-clutching was the way to overcome that.
will Jay be the Artistic Director of Audrain Museum then?
Some of the landscaping might beat the cars?!? Thanks boys!
