I have a ’72 thin line for over 40 years but its been heavily modified over the years including a replacement neck {a result of trying to make a Yngvie scalloped fingerboard in the mid 80s -at least it has the original tuners). But the sound is incredible with a single coil Seymour Duncan in the neck and DiMarizo Humbucker with coil tap in the back and get this, ONE OF THOSE WASHBURN WHAMMY SYSTEM WITH A BALANCED BAR THAT I NEVER USE! As I primarily play jazz, my musical tastes have evolved to say at the least, but with much technique I might add. Without exception, each person who played this guitar loves it
I had a real one . Played it at school for years. I had no idea it would turn out to be rare and collectible. . I played the hell out of it and traded it for a 1980 USA Dean Cadillac. Way better guitar for me. Gave that one to a dear friend and band mate. We did things like that back then.
Fender never made a tele headstock with bullet truss rod. The deluxes had the bullet but with the strat headstock. That is an aftermarket neck I believe.
Classic series tele customs and USA's have the bullet. Heres an example I used in the video Fender FSR Telecaster Custom Vintage '72 in Natural, USED reverb.com/item/84495238?
@@Son_of_Ronin the story was (in the video) this guitar was sent to Fender for a new neck, and they opted for a USA one. From what I can tell (finish, hardware, date stamps, construction, consulting with Fender) it is a USA neck.
@@boechlerguitarsandrepair Yeah you might be right just cant find an american tele with small bullet headstock. But I did not know there was a mexican "reissue" of a neck that never existed. So clearly I don't know everything and could be wrong
The decals are very curious here. A 2009 USA Standard-style serial decal like that would not include the "Made in USA," as the serial was on the back of the headstock and the "Made in USA" was on the front in those days.
@ Vintage reissues don't have serial decals, the serials are on the neck plates and start with a V. A Z9 decal in that style would be like the one applied to an American Standard Tele.
@ It seems highly unlikely to me that they'd add the "Made in USA" piece to an already anachronistic decal. Additionally, in 2020 they no longer put "Made in USA" on *any* guitars, because they couldn't by law.
The neck pickup isn't a Cunife unit... I'd put good money on that. In 2006 the company hadn't reissued them. Cheap ceramic humbuckers were used on the Squire Tele Customers.
You don't need to shim the neck if you have a tilt sysetm. It leaves an air gap but thats another religion ;) I quite like the 3-bolt.
I ts a mex classic someone tried to sell as a USA model. Simple as that
The "custom" decal under telecaster is different on MIM telecaster customs. I've only seen this font on the USA models

Sounds awesome!
Sounds very ruined.
The neck could’ve been purchased from stratosphere those guys sell all kinds of parts for gift and fender guitar

@boechlerguitarsandrepair I stand corrected but that is a mexican tele so someone likely put a fake usa serial decal on it and clear coated over it.

That's not true. My 70s telly deluxe dual humbucker model has the bullet, enlarged headstock, like a strat headstock, from the factory.

The neck stamp says 2020.The response from fender was they assign a new serial for warranty to match the guitar
It's not a 2009 USA Standard decal, though, it's 1972 vintage reissue decal.

Yeah there's no chance it's a cunife, the mexican reissues like these were alnico. They didnt start doing the Cunife reissues until 2020
I thought custom = bound body
Thats a custom telecaster this is a telecaster custom. Its a bit confusing
My brother would bring 2 guitars to a gig , a Les Paul and 72 Custom because the layout was the same
I want that guitar. I'll send you my address!!!
