My 2nd Legal Halibut of 2024!!! |Seal Beach Jetty| (Catch, Clean, Cook) |SoCal Fishing|
Вставка
- Опубліковано 29 жов 2024
- Not sure why I said Seal Beach, CA was in Long Beach, CA (brain fart lol) but I fished off of the Seal Beach jetty. The low calm tide had my hopes high for catching my second legal halibut of this year and that's exactly what happened...Check out the video!!!
DANG, Back in the 70's i used to fish the jetty with homemade splashers made from broom handles and catch 15 to 20lb bonita all day long . Water was a constant 75 degrees from that powerplant right up the channel. So many memories there. Thanks for reminding me. Used whole frozen anchovies right in front of harbor patrol station at night flylined for monster spotted bay bass also. Steal fishing at the no fishing signs on the railings. 😊
Thanks for sharing and I appreciate you watching, I gotta give it a try 🙌🏾
Yup those were the days , my pop's (rip) would take me there , Bonitas all day long long . Either off the jetty or the bridge we would see bonita trailing the hooked one. So many great memories, back to back catches and they were beefy bonitas 🎣
@@RacerXgeneration sounds like great times, everything so fished out now days.
Barracuda also back in the 70's!

@@abelrodrigues5051 Hey thanks bro, I really appreciate that and I’m just continuing to learn and share what I learned along the way 🤝🏾🙌🏾
Hello Mr. J-Rome
Awesome catch and nice video!.
Maybe in your next video you can explain how you prepare or tie your rig, the tackle you used and length, knot you do fir your setup. I tried different way to rig it but no success yet. On your video you made it simple to catch a fish.
Nice job!! Thanks
Thank you, I really appreciate it and yes I’ll definitely get around to making a video explaining everything. I’m not the best at tutorials but I’ll give it my all because several people have requested it 😅. Thanks again for watching and I’ll make that a priority 🙌🏾
Curious what size hook you used. Size 1/0 bait holder?
@@mbatbat1405 I use the size 1 Shaw Grigsby hooks
Back in the early 90’s I was working in Santa Cruz after the earthquake, I’m from Utah, we were doing a lot of fishing from the Santa Cruz pier. To shorten the story instead of putting bait on the bottom like locals we started using slip bobber set up usually used for walleye fishing. The water was somewhere around 17’ anyway we would drift out away from the pier on the tide, we used live bait about a foot off the bottom sometimes we’d need to switch sides of the pier to get the drift right. As a result we started out catching more halibut than the local guys it caused quite the stir on the pier, (guys from the desert out fishing the locals)the guys kept telling us you can’t catch halibut on a steelhead rig! We tried to show them it wasn’t a steelhead rig, it was a walleye rig. Some of them got it most didn’t. My partner later wrote a letter about it to Infisherman Magazine and they published it, sorry I don’t remember the year or issue. It worked great for us Utah boys. Should work for you! Give it a try! Good luck
Great story and how cool, yeah I might have to give it a try one day 🙌🏾
Thank you for sharing your story

Thanks for watching and that video was genuine and happened unintentionally 😅
one question: one kind of fishing license do u wanna get if u want to keep a fish?
@@emnico6063 All you need is a fishing license, there’s no type of special license for keeping fish.
What’s your set up that you use for halibut? Would love to fish for halibut but no idea what gear to get
I use a drop-shot set up with a size 1 Shaw Grigsby hook tied straight to the line and a 1oz torpedo weight about a foot below the hook. I use the 4inch Berkeley Gulps that they sell at Walmart. I’ll try to make a video soon showing the complete set up.

I've fished those jetty's for years man , never catch anything but rays.
Yeah rays are common but there’s definitely a lot of other species of fish out there, esp those halibuts 🙌🏾
Great video. Would love to fish together sometime!
Thanks bro and yeah sounds good 🙌🏾
also try not to ever rinse saltwater fish filets with fresh water... it turns the meat white and begins to cook it like civiche / ruins the meat... just use paper towels to dry it off...
I’ve been told that before and you’re absolutely right but I’ve been rinsing salt water fish my entire life with fresh water to make sure it’s thoroughly clean so it’s something I’m accustomed to 😅 but thanks 🙌🏾

Do you need license fishing at Seal/Long Beach Jetty?
@@greggallego3111 Yes you do I believe but the pier doesn’t require a fishing license
Piers and Jetty does not require fishing license. As long as you are in the Jetty. But if you move out to the shore to fish, you might need a license.
@@walden6272 The regulation is not clear cut on what a jetty is defined as so fishing w/o a license is still taking a risk. You’re fine fishing the piers but the “jetty” can be a different story. My best advice is just to purchase a fishing license, esp if you consider yourself a fisherman and fish more than once a year 🤷🏾♂️
@@FishingWithJRome I agree that it's best to buy a fishing license just to support Fish&Game and fish nurseries that stock fishes in lakes. Generally if the area is designated as a jetty and you're on the rock area extended out of the shores. That would be the jetty area. It is define in the book.
do you need a fishing license to fish seal beach or long beach jetties
@@rjcav1239 yes you do, you can only fish off of the pier w/o a license
You need a pair of fishing boots
I have some but since I was planning to fish off of the rocks I decided to wear my shoes instead 😅. I know better next time lol
How do I get to this spot?
Just search Seal Beach Jetty in Long Beach, CA
What’s the weight size ?
Check out the video I just uploaded, I explained everything.
Get some buddy
Thanks 🙌🏾
I like the way you cook, I always over cook the halibut
Thanks bro I appreciate it and yeah I used to do the same 😅 but we get better with time 🙌🏾
Close the mouth all the way when measuring those just legal ones.
Yeah I did for the official measurement but the fish mouth opened back up while recording it. Either way you can measure from the mouth to the longest circumference of the tail and I still had room at the tail 🙌🏾
Is that a drop shot bro???
Yeah it is
Big ass sign said fish all day, but don’t keep
Big ass sign where about and don’t keep what types of fish?
I wouldn't eat anything out of Seal Beach. That water is disgusting!
Personal preference but I respect it 🙌🏾
@@FishingWithJRome it's not personal preference. There are signs all over seal Beach to not eat the fish do to contaminated water.
@@silvermist9644 Incorrect, there are signs advising ppl on which “types” of fish to not eat. However, halibut is NOT one of them but I appreciate your concern. I know you are only looking out 🙌🏾
@FishingWithJRome
This is absolutely correct, J.
How is that water disgusting? Isn't he fishing the San Gabriel River run out through the Jetty?
J rome are you drop shot that fluke? And what size hook and oz weight? Nice footage when i come visit my mom in Cal Heights gonna hit jetti been a while 👍

@@ChhivLybun I honestly have never fished one but I know a lot of ppl do and they work just like anything else. I prefer my cheaper set-up because it’s really effective and you don’t feel bad about losing tackle from snags. I also don’t know how to read the tides, I just know when it’s low tide or high tide from looking it up 😅
