I visited Vancouver Island once. Went to Strathcona and Pacific Rim, including Radar Hill. Camped by the west coast. Completely amazed by the beauty.

I could spend weeks in Strathcona Park-there's so much to explore. But the real adventure is getting on a boat and exploring the many islands in the channel. I'm trying to find time to do precisely that in the future.

I have not been there for many years.....A overnight stay to get to my destination...... Hornby Island.....years of many great memories.... Including visits with the Queen mum, her Royal Majesty Queen Elizabeth II....... Beautiful area, I mainly stayed close to shoreline travel to catch ferries to continue to my destination......Thank you Parksville for your hospitality during those years of my youth.......

Great video! 😡to the Mercedes SUV at 2:12 with the huge pile of snow on the roof.

That drives me nuts as well. Nothing worse than a big pile of snow blowing off a vehicle and smacking you while you’re driving top speed down the highway. Thank you for commenting and watching!

We got lucky this year as far as snow goes 1 big dump gone in a week. City not so great at snow removal though especially sidewalks. I hand shovel 600ft of sidewalk, city plows bury it

I come from the Kootenay Mountains and found that the cities have horrible responses to snowfall. My neighbour and I bought a snowblower together for the odd time it snows here, even though it melts in a day or two. The snow we get is SO HEAVY!

I remember the Blizzard of 1996 , when East-Central Vancouver Island got at least four feet of snow in 10 days during the latter half of December. Late December of 2008-2009 was a close second. Of course, I live in affordable Regina, SK. now, where winter is a way of life, rather than a novelty.

I did my time in Alberta and interior BC until I was 30 years old. No doubt I miss aspects of that area, but I’d never move back. But I understand those who want to stay in the tundra.

Parksville does not have a Mediterranean climate which requires an average yearly temperature of 10 degrees Celsius. Parksville's average temperature is 9.5 C. sorry. Port Alberni is the only Vancouver Island city that has a Mediterranean climate, as Koppen defines as Csa. (with Lake Cowichan and Woss Camp coming extremely close) Of further interest is that Port Alberni holds the Canadian record for Snowfall (to answer your question, yes it snows on Vancouver Island.) In the winter of 1967-68 Port Alberni had a snowfall of 23 feet 11 inches. One of the ridges on the way to Tofino, Dorian Ridge regularly get over 80 feet of snow. Ummm maybe you should ask is "do many cities on Vancouver Island NOT get snow".

Cool summers and beaches without swimmers in the oceans doesn’t look like Mediterranean climate, but yes, the winters are mild like in Mediterranean countries. Wherever you can see the hardy palm-trees growing in parks and beaches, that is a variety of Mediterranean climate😊

Stop already! The last thing Vancouver island needs is to get more people moving there! If you want to maintain that quality of life you will realise that more does not equal better.

If you paid attention to the statistics, you’d realize that they actually need people to support all the retirees who live there. Before you comment, it would behove you to do some research.

Yikes, I haven't heard that word since I left jolly old Britain back in 1976 😎
      Yes, you are correct.
Vancouver Island actually has a very low-density population level...and yes, needs more people to sustain it's future development and natural growth.
In fact, a population of just 870,000 is tiny...considering that Vancouver Island is approximately 1/3rd the size of the UK, which has more than 67 million residents.
As for our local Køppen Csb (warm Mediterranean) zone...I can't agree more...it's the nicest climate that I have
experienced anywhere north of 45º LAT N in the world.

Mediterranean climates have cool rainy winters hot rainless summers. Vancouver island is not Mediterranean because winters are cold and summers are warm and while it doesn't rain as much in the summer it still rains. I know winters are not freezing cold but a foggy 40 degrees farhenheight 5 degrees celcius with blowing horizontal rain doesn't feel nice. Its debateable wheather a sunny calm dry 10 degrees fahrenheight -15 C feels better than a rainy windy 40 degrees fahrenheight 5 degrees celcius.
