Thinking back to 12/31/1999 at Chesterman Beach, the whole night felt electric with anticipation. Everyone in Ucluelet and Tofino was on edge, wondering if something big might happen as the millennium turned-and then the quiet of the waves reminded us that nature has its own rhythm. Being raised on the island, the west coast’s raw beauty and power continue to amaze me. Moments like those are a humbling reminder of how small we are in the face of nature's vastness
That last scene, the sunset and those mammoth waves with so many shapes... that was outstanding. Music was a nice compliment to the violence of the sea. Horns and huge waves seem to go together.

I lived in Ukee from 71 til 78 and went to high school there. We would go to Big beach after storms and chase the breakers. Teddy Oye got caught in a breakers and got sucked out but was deposited back to us on the next giant wave. Pretty scary but a lot of fun as well when you are 15 yrs old
Nice video! Uculet, a town I’ll never forget and who will never forget me! Hubby wanted to go fishing and because we were on our honeymoon I obliged. Unfortunately I became violently ill within a mile from shore and made the captain turn the boat around. He was angry about having to do this, insisting if I’d just “look to the land, missy” he wouldn’t miss out on a day’s catch. My New York attitude plus projectile vomiting somehow convinced him to take me back to shore. He and hubby went back out to sea and I passed out in the motel. I woke up later that day and needed something to drink and when I asked the motel owner for a store or restaurant nearby, she said, “oh, you’re the seasick wife!” Uh, ok. Not sure how she knew that but I went next door to the restaurant and ordered a coffee. The waitress said, “oh, you must be the seasick wife!” I simply nodded thinking to myself man, this town is small! Later, at the pharmacy where I purchased some Pepto Bismol I was again found out. “Oh ya, you be the seasick wife!” The pharmacist said. I still hadn’t seen my hubby but I had a feeling the town paper might have my photo on its cover. So yes, I am The Seasick Wife. And watching those amazing 30 foot waves did not bother me one bit. I take round the clock medication for benign positional vertigo which it turns out is the real reason for seasickness. 👂😵💫👍🏻🌊🤷🏻♀️🌈❤️ thanks Mr. Johnson! U sure are lucky no trees crashed during the storm ⛈️
Don't feel too bad about it. On any given day there are more than a few seasick wives. Husbands too. I carry reliefband nausea wristbands on my charter boat and they've saved many trips home for seasick husbands and wives alike.
My nephew is in the boating business and spends a lot of his spare time on his and other associates boats. He invited the entire family out on a quite large yacht to go out and watch fireworks from the water. It seemed to me the water was pretty calm but the myriad of boats of all sorts were ahead of us churning up the water. We did not get to see the fireworks 💥 that night. The Captain got seasick and had to turn the boat around 😜😂🤣🥴💥💥!!!!!!
Beautiful cinematography. It reminds me of years ago, standing above Depoe Bay in Oregon in late afternoon during a winter storm. Decades before a ship had sunk near the area, and looking at the ocean and how terrifying in must have been for all on board. Confirms my status as a landlubber.
Totally amazing footage. That ocean is angry. Some of the best shore break footage i've ever seen. Great going. Glad youre all safe. Greetings from Toronto

Wow! This is incredible footage! I really appreciate your disclaimer that people need to not go near the rocks and trying to film things like this. Nothing is worth your life! I have been there on vacation with my parents when I was a wee lass. Okay 18…my last family holiday. I had a terrible earache and slept much of the trip. Nanaimo, Parksville. When we got to Uculet and Tofino I was quite surprised to see folks surfing. I didn’t think that in Western Canada, there would be any place to surf. That was when I discovered that you queue Tofino are unprotected waters, so naturally they would get the brunt of a storm like this. This was long before tourism took hold. One of these days I’ll get back there, Hopefully I can time for a trip to the lighthouse to meet one of my favourite cockatoos on UA-cam. @Barney the west coast cockatoo ❤😂 Thank you for making your incredible capture available to us 🙋🏼♀️🇨🇦☮️🕊️
This triggered a memory of walking through the old growth forest on Vancouver, hoping that those trees that have survived other ferocious storms withstood this one too. Wonderful light and music match at the end.

Unreal footage, storm watching is one of those things that us on the coast lose sight of, it is so powerful and expressive at its greatest form, right place at the right time, Absolutely Beautiful Scenery Thankyou

Some epic footage there, well done. That thundering sound of those magnificent white horses, racing each other, as the powerful wave, surges towards the safety of the land, but not for these majestic white horses, for they are doomed to fail. Incredible. I loved that. A brilliant place to film a storm as well, with the rocks, helping to put the size of the waves into perspective and even, a before and after part. very well done, sir.

Beautiful and awe-inspiring footage - - - couldn’t help but think of the sinking of the Pass of Melfort (1905) and the Valencia (1906) in these waters……
Great storm video, well photographed. Over here in UK the BBC insist on calling these storm events an 'explosive cyclogenesis' which gives the meteorologists a good chance to show off their knowledge ha ha!!. Visited here in 2005, had a paddle when it was a calm sea, cold but beautiful.Cheers Peter.
Amazing footage, Thank you for sharing. I am anchored just offshore in Nanaimo, in a rather protected spot. My 10 ton boat was hardly moving, so I was rather surprised how much carnage there was everywhere else. Including how many other boats broke loose.
I’ve visited Ucluelet a number of times, albeit never in inclement weather. Occasionally I found myself wondering just how severely hit that coastline gets doing big storms. Your video here is an excellent document on how the power of mother nature strikes in that locale. Hoping that you all came through this with only minimal damages.
I was there a few years ago and it was beautiful! I absolutely loved it, walking on the beach, gentle rollers coming in and the sun shining. Thank you for showing the rest of Canada and others the power of that storm! Glad you and yours are safe.
I was in Campbell River that night, Not much sleep. I took a short vid outside the back door catching the wind shrieking through the trees and I do mean shrieking. There were 3-4 ' Waves breaking onto the beach. The wind had a long way to wind up from the Vancouver area
Wow! I live halfway between Seattle and Portland, and we had nothing. I was up all night, and our windows never rattled once, nor could I even hear the trees swaying in the wind. I'm at the top of a ridge, so usually we get hammered in storm like this.
Beautiful! Reminds me of the awesome storms in the Atlantic off the coast of Portugal that I witnessed as a child. Nothing more amazing than experiencing the power of nature.
Fantastic footage - beautiful and frightening at the same time. Well done, and thanks for sharing! I hope you were able to set your patio table upright without any trauma…😜
Living on the coast of the PNW one of my favorite things to do is storm watch. There is just something about watching large waves hitting the shore. The power and energy of the water is amazing. This is great photography.
Surf's up boys! Seriously though, great footage. You are very lucky to be able to see these sights. I've seen waves like this in Ukee once (ironically, I was there to surf but obviously didn't). Amazing space.
We live just west of Victoria, and while the winds generated some pretty significant waves on the Victoria waterfront, they were nothing like this. We missed our annual storm watching weekend in Tofino this year. Bad timing on our part. Great video.
Excellent glimpse into the heart of the sea and the energy of Mother Nature. I used to live in Seattle and in many ways, miss this proximity -- well, not TOO much proximity -- to the Pacific Ocean's northern reaches. Such a different energy than the Atlantic, too. The music choice at the conclusion of the video was genius! :-)
New follower here! I visited Vancouver Island as a young teen, fell so in love with the place that the only thing that drove myself and family dog back to the camper were the black flies and mosquitos!
Spectacular! Dramatic! Hypnotic! And a thousand other not very worthy adjectives. The videography is mesmerizing! I'd like these all put together uninterrupted with no sound. Well, I'd just play whatever music I'm in the mood for at the moment over it so that doesn't matter much I guess. And I'd put it on loop and veg out to it. Gorgeous! Glad everyone is ok.
Sounds to me like this video of 25 minutes of seascapes with Ocean sounds might be exactly exactly up your alley; ua-cam.com/video/bJlyKIj_ego/v-deo.htmlsi=g7ry9IgJSrd-RJIX

I’ve been watching the Oceans since I was born, only , I lived away from the ocean 🌊 a few times and it was pure torture for me. Such beautiful footage thank you so much for sharing and so glad that all of you were safe.
I visited this area over 20 years ago and such a stunning area, I loved it. So beautiful. I tried a surfing lesson in April, such a blast! I love the sea and the west coast. This storm looks truly scary (but also mesmerizing). Hope everything is back to more normal now. Cheers from Alberta

Nice job capturing the drama with your camera!! We were without power for a couple days as well (Bow, WA). Glad you are all ok!
Surf's up boys!
Seriously though, great footage. You are very lucky to be able to see these sights. I've seen waves like this in Ukee once (ironically, I was there to surf but obviously didn't). Amazing space.
Beautiful! Thank you from Burien on Puget Sound!
We live just west of Victoria, and while the winds generated some pretty significant waves on the Victoria waterfront, they were nothing like this. We missed our annual storm watching weekend in Tofino this year. Bad timing on our part. Great video.
Love the sound of the ocean. Great footage!
Thank you UkeeTube. It's indescribably beautiful!🌎🌊🍁 I love your adorable dog, Monty, too!💓🐕💓
Thank you for sharing such awe-inspiring footage! We were just there at the end of September and it’s such a beautiful place.
Your pup is very cute! 😊
Amazing! Also, the amount of sand in the surf is shocking. Great shots!
That's sand coloured foam . Sand don't float .
Thank you for this. I live on Saanich Inlet just near Pat Bay airport. We get wind but not like this.I adore the Wild Coast! Your record of this storm is epic and wonderful especially that last bit. ❤

I’ve been watching the Oceans since I was born, only , I lived away from the ocean 🌊 a few times and it was pure torture for me. Such beautiful footage thank you so much for sharing and so glad that all of you were safe.

Wow! Amazing to be this close. It must be quite a rush! Thank you for showing. 👍
