    All I have is a relay in hand with no packaging.
    It was given to me by a mechanic because I was burning up switches to the electric fan in my Jeep.
    Laid out like a elementary school project makes all the difference in understanding.
    Labeling the colors functions and placements is a blessing.
    Thank you so much for your video.👍

    I love it. I wire relays in as kill switches. Looking at the wiring diagrams for that car. Cutting into the power to the fuel pump from the fuel pump relay to pins 30 and 86. Pin 87 continues the circuit to the pump. Pin 85 goes to the hidden switch , the other side of the switch is hooked to ground.
    On some I use 87A to power a horn under the drivers seat so if the ignition is turned on with the kill switch off the horn under the drivers seat goes off. I normally try to get the 130db horns from the cheap tool store.

    I am putting late model headlights in my Lexus ISF. They are LED daylight runners.
    There are two wires to power. One is for 100% brightness, the other is for 50%.
    So, when I turn the ignition on, one wire gets the 100% led lights on.
    As soon as I turn the park lights in, it will switch to 50%.
    This helped me visually understand what I need to do 😀😀

    The best explanation I have come across. You even showed that the same 12 v terminal can be used for the switch and relay. 87A will be used for the small light on my toggle switch when I turn the key on and 87 will make the big design on the same toggle switch glow when I turn the switch on. SWEET. Thanks for taking the time to mock up your wiring display. Subscribed

      It should be simple. However you look at it, your relay and switch receive power from the battery, through 1 wire or 2, you choose how many wires you really want to run.

    I left a comment that i built a remote control lawn mower. Now I used a 5 pin relay tied to a single 120amp 4 pin relay. This relay is for power and 5 pin relay for grounding engine to shut down via Transmitter. Every thing wired up as the original main wire from coil to enigine break lever on the engine to bteak and short the engine to shut down. I left it intact as plan B. Yank an attached wire to the lever to kill engine. I tapped into this wire and ran it to 87a then wired another wire to ground and ran to pin 87. When rc relay is swiched on by the switch on the transmiter the pin 30 on 5 pin relay will ground out. Not good when you need the engine running, but when power is turned off pin 87a is now ground and the engine shuts down. It works !!! But when power back on throwing ground back to pin 30 ( nothing is attached to it ) engine wont start un less i unplug pin 87a and cycle power on and off plug wire back onto 87a after restartin engine. Will function again as a kill switch. Thinking of installing a arm switch to turn 87a off to grnd then turn on after starting engine. Failsafe on receaver is set to shut down power and engine if loss of signal and power don't want it taking off. If you or others have any further ideas thanks.

    I really appreciate you creating this video. It helped me understand the typical relay circuit I needed for my project.
    An improvement to this demonstration could be showing the switch receiving power from a lower amp 12v source, say your fuse box, instead of (1:31) showing it coming out of the same fuse powering the light. You could use an 18ga wire to power the second fused line all the way to the switch and thru to the relay (coming from the same battery but routed outside of the video frame). The power feeding the light could be a 14ga wire from the battery clamp all the way to the light. This way, you could visually demonstrate how a low amp switch could power a higher amp device.
    Also, you could make the wire from the switch to the relay be really long and coiled up to demonstrate how you can use a single cheap long thin wire to control a device that requires a more expensive thicker shorter wire.
    I bought a 5-pin relay because that was all they had at the auto parts store. Thanks for explaining 87A. I won't need it for my project, but its good to know what it's for. This would have been a good time to introduce to your audience the terms "normally open" and "normally closed."
    Thanks for sharing your knowledge. -Jimmy

    Great explanation!
    I have a question, I want to wire my fans to continue to run as needed on a temp sensor after I turn my engine off. so when I shut off my engine the power to my fan relay is off, I want the secondary power to come on to continue to cool off my engine. Any suggestions/tips on how to wire that up?

    • @WiringRescue
      @WiringRescue  4 роки тому

      Thanks for watching the video! I think you should consider one of these adjustable fan switches instead: shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/imperial-adjustable-thermostatic-fan-control-226204/3670006-p
      You can adjust them to turn on at any temp, and you can wire it to be on all the time (read below).
      One word of warning though. The reason that almost no cars come with this feature is because it’s dangerous when you are working on the car. If the fan decides to turn on when you are wrenching under the hood, it could really injure somebody. So - I would always recommend wiring it to the ignition power instead. That way it will never turn on when your car is off.

    this right here is how i use a relay to control a strobe module on a tow truck. some customers want to have all of their clearance lights strobe so i put the clearance lights into pin 30 and use 87a to control the lights on steady burn then i wire a switch from the dash which turns on and activates 87 that powers the strobe module. the output of the strobe module is then wired to the same spot in the junctionbox where my 87a goes to and viola all the clearance lights strobe! just figured id throw in another use for 5 pin relay

      @@WiringRescue I have another question! the fuse going from battery to pin 30 would be the amps used for the relay? being 30?

    • @WiringRescue
      @WiringRescue  2 роки тому

      @@dailydosedetermination yes and no. The fuse size is determined by what you are powering, like light bulbs in this example. You also need a relay that is sized appropriately for the circuit. The relays I’m using in this video are able to handle 30 amps. But that is not the fuse size you want. I made a video on this topic actually. Take a look at this one ua-cam.com/video/EhzN6UdnmPA/v-deo.html

    • @dailydosedetermination
      @dailydosedetermination 2 роки тому +1

      @@WiringRescue ok so the fuse would be what my total amperage draw of my lights would require. So in my instance I have a total of 7.5A in my LED system so a 10A fuse would be the right fit?

    Jeremy! Fantastic! I just figured out why when I have my car in accessory mode the radio works but when I turn the engine over, the radio has to restart. The installer must have put the radio power on 87a. This has been bothering me for a while. I'll take a look now that I understand a little more about relays!

  • @killerkrash911

    Good morning .Love the diagram .Clears some things up thank .the reason i was looking for this video was because in the past when hooking up these kinds of connection on my car wanted to make sure i never forget to shut off my light , I have kids ,what if one of them turns on the switch and my fog lights turn on and don't notice and shut of the car .in the morning come out out my battery is dead.so i was wondering if instead of wiring the switch directly to the battery and run the switch from the interior fuse box that only has power when the car is running and when it is off it shut all power to the relay therefore saving me from dead battery issues. so instead taking power directly from the battery take the power from the interior fuse box placing a fuse on that line to the switch then sending to the relay. thanks you really help me understand how it all works now i can run my fog light without worrying about coming out to a dead car.
