  • On todays video we dive into Bosch style automotive relay. We go over the schematic and terminals of the relay as well as show how to wire them for different configurations. We also show the difference between a standard 5 pin relay and show 2 different examples of 4 pin relays and have a look at the inside of a relay.

    Thanks for the tutorial Ryan. I'm 67 and never really took the time to study and understand relays, in detail until your video.

      Then perhaps you can tell me where the red and black wires on the relay go to? This so called awesome video doesn’t tell you.

    I really enjoyed and learn a few things along the way with your work here. But I would really like your thoughts about the silver wolf build, likes and dislikes especially. Thanks again for your work here.

    Lol "I love relays"... Words i have uttered under my breath, because I don't want people to think I'm weird 😅

    I enjoy the relay info and was considering installing one on my golf cart so my 48v->12v converter doesn't drain the battery (like you mentioned). But I turn my 48v 95ah lithium battery off when not using the cart. Not sure I would get any benefit from the relay in this case, but will consider for possible future installations.

    You might want to " clamp " the DC relay coil with a diode hooked inverse parralel on the coil. A 1n4004 should be good in my opinion

      @LTVoyager 2 місяці тому

      Some relays have internal diodes which is why you should always connect + to terminal 86 and - to 85. Many tell you it doesn’t matter, but sometimes it does and it is good practice to always follow the 86+ convention.

    I have a side-by-side CanAm UTV with a 12V battery. There is a power distribution terminal under the dash that will energize when the ignition is on (there's a ground lug near by as well). Also, there are color coded wires passing through the firewall from this location directly to where the battery is located. I wish to provide power to my stereo, light bar, whip lights, back lights and rock lights via this power distribution terminal using rocker switches. My question is this...will this be too much for this terminal, and should I use an individual 30a or 40a relay for each device? Thanks in advance for your advice!!

    Good information and well explained. Question though. I am going to use a relay on my motorcycle to control the front mounted passing lights. I am planning to use a relay in the normally closed position to power them all the time the switch is on.. But plan to use the high beam power to activate the relay to cut off the passing lights when the high beams are on. But i can not figure out if I would need to wire it in line with the power to the high beams or if just tapping the power side will work and grounding it to complete the circuit. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks.

    Hi
    Can I power the relay Pin 30 and patch 85 from the same 12v supply without damaging any switch gear?

    Hi! Can I run 24 volts from 30 to 87 and 12 volts on the trigger (85/86) switch? I'm planning to install a 24v airhorn in my car and I just bought a 24V boost up converter.

    • @Fentertainment
      @Fentertainment  2 місяці тому

      Yup, 30&87 is just a switch which makes and breaks continuity where 85/86 is the coil for the relay.

    Does anyone know how to remove the wires from the relay harness ?
    I would like to use my own color code layout that I have created for myself, and I am used to using.
    I find it very frustrating to see a colored wire change to a different color wire.
    I could also buy a bunch of colored heat shrink and cover the wire with my own color code.
    That seems like a lot of money and the wire becomes stiff and does not bend as easily.
    I would like to find some type of pin tool that will allow me to remove the metal connector that is inside the relay harness. I can then either reinstall the connector and its wire to a different position on the harness.
    If the harness does not come with the wire colors that I am used to using then I can remove a female spade connector from its plastic cover and attach it to a wire that has the color that I am used to using, and then install the new spade connector and wire into the relay harness.
