Hey guys! In this video I talk about The Greatest Part of The Lost World Novel! Michael Crichton's Jurassic Park had a ton of cool stuff with the Tyrannosaur Family in The Lost World Novel and I think its something that would be really cool to see adapted from TLW in some way shape or form in the future. How Dodgson stole Tyrannosaur Eggs is really unsettling and while it didn't make its way into Jurassic Park 2, it still did introduced the readers to how nasty Dodgson can really be! :D

"Oh fuck" The most casual response to a pair of charging Tyrannosaurs
"Remember that chap about twenty years ago? I forget his name. Climbed Everest without any oxygen, came down nearly dead. When they asked him, they said why did you go up there to die? He said I didn't, I went up there to live." -Roland Tembo
One of my favorite lines!
That is why Roland is the best character.
"Peter, if you want me to run your little camping trip, there are two conditions: firstly, I'm in charge, and when I'm not around, Dieter is. All you need to do is sign the checks, tell us we're doing a good job, and open your case of Scotch when we have a good day. Second condition: my fee? You can keep it. All I want in exchange for my services is the right to hunt one of the tyrannosaurs. A male, a buck only. How and why are my business. Now if you don't like either of those two conditions, you're on your own. So go ahead, set up base camp right here, or in a swamp, or in the middle of a Rex nest for all I care. But I've been on too many safaris with rich dentists to listen to any more suicidal ideas, OK?"
-Roland Tembo
Zachary Fineour Ajay: okay
Klayton Fioriti I love that line as we’ll
Man you really bring these novels to life, the editing and sfx are really spot on.
Thank you! I greatly appreciate that! :D
Agreed. They make me want to re-read the novels. Dug them out last night :)
No kidding
I'd love to see a brutal, bloody T. rex attack scene as much as the next Jurassic fan, but the swear words would definitely cost the studio an arm and a leg...
lol very punny
I've heard Supermassive Games(Until Dawn, The Quarry) wants to develop an accurite adaption of the Jurassic Park books.
Really?
Why hasn't this officially been talked about?
I WANT IT
@@Jothomas214 Agreed.
Sure, blood and gore is okay, but swear words are where the line is drawn.
I always thought that the Lost World Novel was vastly superior to the film adaptation. Having Dodgson as the main antagonist connected it better to the first novel/film (rather than the film sequel universe that just leaves us to wonder what Lewis Dodgson ended up doing after his failed attempt at getting the embryos).
Typanoid jp the game
We have Dodgson, Dodgson here!
@@theofficialbullshitmoose See, no one cares
Years after the events of the Lost World, his tenacious and morally corrupt desire for power has served him well. He has risen up through the corporate ranks and is now the CEO of Biosyn (according to the fan novel I wrote, so I don't think it's canon !)
I thought that immediately after I read it, but now in retrospect I think they both have their strengths and weaknesses. There are things in the novel where I think, "I wish we got that in the film," but the film is the right length already and I loved certain other stuff like Roland Tembo and the San Diego incident. Fans of movies often fail to think like a filmmaker - they go, "why couldn't there be this this and this," and it's like, because that would make the film bloated as hell and screw up the pacing.
4:11 “The sound abruptly stopped”.
It was at this moment that the villans knew...they screwed up.
I remember reading this part and thought that if Ian were around he would have just sat in the car and shook his head at the sheer stupidity of these men.
😂
Well, he definitely was watching from the jeep as the dashboard monitor showed what was going on. And to him, they weren't stupid, but greedy and misinformed. He DID shake his head when it was all over, though.
Well to be fair to Dodgson his plan wasn't that dumb, since it would've probably worked provided Baselton had gone and got the egg like he was supposed to. Since if he had then Dodgson wouldn't have gone in to do it himself, pulling the plug to the battery out. Then again I guess that's just chaos.
This is one of the best parts of The Lost World Novel, but my personal favorite part is when the Raptors attack the High Hide.
The birdkingdom yeah, that's a really good one, and the intense chase for the key to get Arby out of the cage.
Two words about the high hide scene : Poor eddie
Mine was Baseltons death and the Carnotaurs.
The birdkingdom I think my favorite part was the part where Sarah chased the raptor through the legs of the apatosaurus
Now when it comes to my favorite part of The lost World Novel it has to be where Thorne and Levine are perusing the raptors through the jungle, then when they have Arby back are racing away from them. The exact lines are : " In the back of the car, the raptor scrambled up, released the tarp, and clamped its jaws on the cage, and began to pull it out of the back of the Jeep. Thorne lunged, grabbing the end of the cage nearest to him. The cage twisted, rolling Thorne onto his back. He found himself in a tug of war with the raptor- and the raptor was winning. Thorne locked his legs around the front passenger seat, trying to hold on. The raptor snarled; Thorne sensed the sheer fury of the animal, enraged that it might lose its prize. "Here!" Levine shouted, holding a gun out to Thorne. Thorne was on his back, gripping the cage in both hands. He couldn't take the gun. Levine looked back, and saw the situation. He looked in the rearview mirror. Behind them, he saw the rest of the pack still in pursuit, snarling and growling. He could not slow down. Thorne could not let go of the cage. Still driving fast, Levine swung around the passenger seat, and aimed the rifle backward. He tried to maneuver the gun, knowing what would happen if he accidentally shot Thorne, or Arby. "Watch it!" Thorne was shouting. "Watch it!" Levine managed to get the safety off, and swung the barrel straight at the raptor, which was still gripping the cage bars in its jaws. The animal looked up, and in a quick movement closed its jaws over the barrel and tugged at the gun. Levine fired. The raptors eyes popped wide as the dart slammed into the back of its throat. It made a gurgling sound, then went into convulsions, toppling backward out of the Jeep - and yanking the gun from Levine's hands as it fell."
Just imagine the box office records that would be broken if Spielberg totally remade the Jurassic movies as straight up 'R' rated horror films scene-by-scene specifically true to the original books...Damn that would be beyond cool...
There are enough scenes never used in the two books that could fill several more movies with epic scenes like this one.
Dodgston. Dodgston. We DON'T have Dodgston here!
Y Dodgson
LMAO
Nobody cares about you Donson. You died in the book and weren't important enough to make it into the second move
This was so cool :D the combination of T.rex action, Crichton's genius writing and your storytelling fits perfect!
Hey thank you! :D
Klayton Fioriti Thanks for the video! :D
I'm the 100th Liker of your comment
Imagine if he did an audio on the book; I would definitely check that out.
Perfectly balanced, just as all things should be...
This is probably the most memorable part of the book indeed. It would be hard for a movie adaptation to give you the same chills as the details in the book do. The sense of danger, the tension, the massive fuck up. The movie is definitely still among the great ones, but this time the book is better.
I love how his two employees were like “ARE YOU NUTS!?”, when they find out that they are after a T-Rex.
I honestly would love to see an adaptation of the part where they find out the Rex can smell them. Can you imagine...
" DON'T MOVE! HE CAN'T SEE US IF WE DON'T MOVE! IT'S JUST A STUPID SCAVENGER!"
The Rex sniffs at the nearest man and, in one motion, tosses the man in the air with his nose and catches the man in his jaws. The man screams in pain. The Rex cocks his head and swallows the man whole. The men flee as the Rex roars, all except one. The tubby, balding paleontologist remains still. Maybe out of fear, maybe sticking by his theory. Either way, the Rex picks the portly old man and swallows. "So much for being a scavenger." A hunter remarks.
Excellent! I'd love to see that on the big screen! :D
Klayton Fioriti
It would be interesting, I hope to see something like that on screen. I also took a little jab at Horner.
Good thing now today Rexes have found to have one of the best eyesights out any animal as it both hunted living prey and scavenged
Insert applause here. 👏🏻
It'd be a bit silly to throw in a backhanded fuck-you to the scavenger theory, since it's stated that Alan Grant was working on that same theory at the time of the Lost World novel. Crichton wasn't half as scornful of the idea as Jurassic Park's adoring fanbase is.
- Lewis
"They are misinformed...."
Epic line!
Agreed! I always think of it! Especially, how it ends that "chapter" and then, followed by this crazy shit!
Malcolm is NEVER wrong
I prefer Levine's eventual follow-up: "Roxton is an idiot. He doesn't know enough anatomy to have sex with his wife. His paper was a joke." Levine had some more to say about Alan Grant and rainstorms immediately thereafter, too. :)
@@theAsterisk
For some reason that comment from Levine made me fancast Hugh Laurie as Levine lmao
@@theAsterisk It felt to me that they never cleared that up. Grant's statement was based on his experience with Rexy, who had frog DNA in her. Are the tyrannosaurs on Sorna of pure breed, because we have evidence that tyrannosaurs had perfect vision and well-developed olfactory senses?
4:19 You missed the best bit! When Dogson realises the animals CAN see him! I have been listening to this in the audiobook as I sleep and this whole scene was so intense, so unlike the movie and so much, much more enjoyable! Im glad im not the only one who thought this was the best bit :D
Epic Klayton Fioriti narration ensues!
SHINOBI-03 Darn straight! 👍🏻👍🏻
Maaaan! I'm reading this again.
I miss how insane it was.
Dodgson's darkest moment was his interaction with Sarah both before and after she got on his boat. Not saying why (I'd prefer not to spoil it for anyone who hasn't read it), but anyone whose read it would agree with me. What he did there was so messed up.
Crap, I don't remember. What happened?
Grumpydrawer what happened?
Well since you asked here's what happened. Just leaving a space here so other's can avoid this spoiler if they wish.
Oh well nothing too big (sarcasm). Dodgson lied and tricked her into thinking they were a part of Malcolm's team and let her come aboard the boat Dodgson's team was traveling to Isla Sorna on....then he pushed Sarah off the edge of the boat and into the ocean. He's one cold hearted bastard in the that book.
Grumpydrawer : I remember that part of the book well. It was a very tense situation, that’s for sure‼️
She got her revenge though 💪🏽
And during the whole event, Dodgson never lost his cool in his red polo shirt and snazzy sunglasses.
I've been wondering when you were going to talk about Dodgston. You should do an episode on his fate.
Ryan Shipp I agree whole heartedly, my personal favorite scene of the book. It may be cliche, but I love it when the bad guy gets his comeuppance
Here here!
That'll be awesome! That part in the book was intense but also made my neck ache 😂😂
Yes that part was awesome and kinda gross
Dodgson.
Dude, you do very well with adapting the books. You don't over act, or under, the sound fx is spot on....good job
Hey thanks dude! :D
Klayton Fioriti no thank you. I enjoy your vids and are a lot of fun.
Best part was that Malcolm and his team were watching the whole thing
And Levine roasting John Roxton's stupid theory that the T-rex can't see you if you don't move. That made me laugh
Those two guys were professer Challenger and that reporter guy from The Lost World and Return To The Lost World. Nice reference.
Yep, and at @2:01 was Roxton from the Lost World Tv series
“Dodgson! Dodgson! We got Dodgson here!”
Honestly, this is one of my two favorite parts of the book too (the other being the Carnotaurs, everything to do with them), and I'd really love seeing it in the film. Heck, I'd like seeing all the remaining parts of the books get adapted. (Well... maybe not Richard Levine AKA my least favorite JP character- but that's a dead horse I've beaten way too many times on the internet to get into XP) Dodgson really is such a great antagonist... it's unfortunate that he's been left out of the films since the first (admittedly for pretty good reasons, given... the unpleasantness with his actor that I shan't go into further). It really feels a lot of the time that antagonists like Ludlow and Hoskins are just trying to fill his shoes (don't get me wrong they're amazing antagonists and I wouldn't have JP without them, but most of their antagonistic traits come right from Dodgson in the TLW novel, sometimes even entire dialogue exchanges- and in Ludlow's case, his fate). Perhaps we could get him recast or something... it'd be great to get him into the Jurassic World films. Or at least BioSyn. I guess we're at least lucky that Ludlow and Hoskins have picked up the slack in his absence. Thanks again for such a great video! They always make my day!
I read the novel and really wished it was added in the movie
I believe I said it before andbif not I'll say it now: a rated r jurassic park movie would be awesome
I've read this scene, but not like this! Chills!!!
Hey thanks!
I would REALLY like to see this adapted to the big screen.
Well done Klayton, well done. When 2:34 happened, I actually jumped, got a chill up my spine and actually teared up, you scared me for the second now, you have my seal of approval sir.
Btw, that bit with the T-Rex shadow was actually frightening that I wish we can see something like that in a Jurassic movie.
I wish so much we could see this scene on the big screen. And that shot of the male Rex at 4:26? Sent chills down my spine man. It really drove home what it would be like to be at the mercy of a pair of carnivores the size of African elephant bulls.
Bullsh*t the best scene in the book was when Sarah Harden first saw the Raptors hunting. Now that was amazingly vicious!!!
Awwww thanks for the heart Klayton Fioriti!!!!! :)
If I was a Velociraptor, I'd be the one who didn't make it.
@@sparkydave84 I'd be the one who got you. ;)
This is an amazing part in MC's book, why wasn't it put in the movie? It would have made a great scene to see in the movie.
Stuart Van Der Merwe these books seem overwhelmingly deeper and scarier and real feeling than the movies that kids may be watching.
It also flies in the face of the movies depictions of the rex as only being able to see moving objects.
Most of the book aside from Key scenes do not appear.
The film’s plot is much different from the novel’s. Having experienced both the book and the movie, I give a slight edge to the movie mainly because the first hour or so is some of the best material in JP Series history. I love Roland Tembo!
Dodgson looks to his team: Mommy’s very angry
I love the second book. And loved that part of the lost world book.
You really have an awesome narrative style. I have the books and audiobooks, but I think the visuals+music and your suspenseful narration bring it to a new level!
Hey thank you! That means a lot! :D
This video made me impulsively buy both Jurassic Park books. Amazon should pay you.
That was INTENSE! I love your work.
As always, your vids are great! :D That sonic device of theirs, is today known as "LRAD" :)
Docson's death is pretty awesome as well
rexattack18 Yes but it was replaced with Ludlow in TLW: JP
This scene is great when brought to life man, great work!
*too awsome just love your narration*
Ah! I remember the scene when I was reading the book a year or two ago and it's definitely one of the more terrifying scenes that I remember thank you for posting this.
Mommy was very Angry
😂
I've watched this multiple times, please make more
Thank you so much for all the Jurassic videos. Been a dinosaur fan since i can remember.
This Was Interesting! Very Cool To See Your Favorite Part...
Mine Was The Part Where The RV Went Off The Cliff!
0 dislikes? of course! its a Klayton video! :D
Ibrahim Khawaja no somebody disliked... Uuhahaha wuaaaaaaah! Oh god!!! Who would do such a thing!
😭😭
it was probably Baselton who disliked this 😂😂
this, along with the high hide attack are the best scenes I remember very well, loved them.
I have read the book so many times both jurassic park and the lost world I remember this and it gave me some nostalgic memories, incredible work, explaining it!
T-Rex
More like YEET-Rex 👌🏿🤣
😂
Goddamn I love videos like this. I mean truely, the sound and visual editing not to mention the voice over is so well put together. Great job on this one Klayton. Its content like this that makes me a proud subscriber. Keep it going man 👍
Hey thank you man that means a lot! :D
Klayton Fioriti Anytime :)
I'll say this now: Dodgson in the Lost World novel is friggin' _savage._
Love the content and watching the channel grow! Keep up the amazing work!
This was by far one of the best scenes in the whole book
Dude I need to read this book
I just read this scene in my copy of The Lost World Yesterday! Thanks for uploading this! This is the greatest part of the novel well, one of the greatest, and Dodgson's comeuppance at the end was well-deserved!
It was definitely one of my very favorite scenes. SO well written. You did a great job narrating this. Thank you for doing so.
Great review and good in depth perspective as usual. Keep it up, also make sure to put ads so we pay homage. 😂👍
Reading the first book right now. Hoping to finish both before the movie comes out!
Love your videos dude. Always the highlight of my day
I love this video! It´s so amazing well made, very great work.
0:43 So the evil villain’s henchman were Gimli from Lord of the Rings and John Stamos? And they both were eaten?....
Maybe the dinosaurs aren’t all that bad.
1:12 Photoshop 100
Purely awesome, thank you mate.
This one of the best videos you've made. I could watch this for hours
Those two guys suited and booted on the island. Lol
The Lost World novel is easily the most underrated entry in the series. Since the novel had a lot less characters than the movie did, it felt more personal. I'd love to see a fan adaptation of this novel.
That was awesome, I finished reading the novel today and I always imagined Baselton and Kings looks swapped around from what you used in the video!
best JP channel with regards to pure information on the franchise (books and films) itself. keep up the wonderful work, it is greatly appreciated.
It was definately one of my favourite and most memorable parts of the book and I thought that it was a great concept using soundwaves. This idea lends itself to some great stand-off scenes, slower paced than the usual running/hiding/acrobatics that happen with pretty much every dinosaur encounter in the films to date. To implement it in the film would have meant a completely different screenplay, right? I love the lost world (watched it just 2 days ago!), despite some really awful dialog ("She´s protecting her baby". "So am I".lol) so I think its hard for me to imagine this scene in the film without it being a very different film, for better or worse.
I know it’s never going to happen, but I would have loved a true adaption of this second book to movie. Really enjoyed the Biosyn side of the story and overall I preferred the atmosphere over what was delivered in the film
You're videos are fantastic. Very cool with all the small details I never knew and I thought I knew all about it since I was a kid seeing it in theaters.
Dude love these in depth videos. It's right up my alley. As jp and tlw are among my favorite films I almost lost it when I saw the thumbnail. I still have that puzzle, together. Anyways thanks for the memories.
"Hey Dodgson are we going to bring any heavy artillery to the Dinosaur INFESTED Island?!! Where we are stealing eggs from the greatest land predator ever to walk the Earth?!!??" Dodgson ignores him going over his own checklist... "Well I made a list anyways..."
1 Barret M82 .50 Cal
1 M60E3
3 AK-47s or SPAS-12s or any semi-auto shotguns,
3 .45 semi-autos or .357mag or higher load revolvers for sidearms
1 M-79 grenade launcher or any 40mm grenade launcher for that matter?!! Maybe a LAW rocket launcher or an RPG-7 or 2 or 3"
"So what do you think?!!" "Each one of us gets our preferred sidearm and AK/shotgun. We'll carry the rest of the weapons in the vehicle. When we go out on foot, we'll be sure at least 2 of us has a different heavy weapon on us, in addition to our AK or shotgun..." Dodgson- "Fuck that!!! I'm bringing a noise maker, my loafers, 1970s khaki shorts, and 3 styrofoam coolers..." "I mean shit we're only stealing a few Fuckin Rex eggs!!!" "What the fuck do you think we're going to World War 3?!!"
Like Eddie says they're just protecting they're baby
I absolutely love your videos about the books !
I remember seeing that puzzle years back in a Toy R Us and had been spending years searching for that image. This is the first time I have seen that image since then, thanks for featuring here Klayton!
Also I'm surprised you didn't read the Gatherers dialogue. Levine's comment on Jack Horner- erm - Roxton's theories was great.
I was going to but it kind of bogged the video down a bit and made it hard to focus. I would have to set up where the Gatherers were and their network in the RV to do it justice...coming soon (eventually) in another video! :D
wow Chrichton had no chill lol. Also, who's heads are those for King and Basilton?
Ed Malone and Professor Challenger from the 1992 version of The Lost World! :D
Oh, lol. I was wondering how John Rhys-Davies fit into this. Lol.
My favorite part is at the end when they're trapped in that building and have to boot up the computer. I love stuff like that. I need to reread that it's been years!
By far my favorite channel on UA-cam right now. Keep up the amaizng work klayton!
Would be a bad ass scene to adapt to movie but stealing eggs seems a little on the 2 steps forward, 3 steps back kind thing as far as moving the story along.
Just make two movies or tv series based on the books.
If you're old enough take a shot every time he swears
Your narration is amazing hahah! I loved it!
See videos like this is why i subscribed so long ago! Love this content
Using pics from sliders! Aweee yisssss!
Anytime with Sliders gets me a bit excited lol. That show was my jam as a kid
HAY KLAYTON!
Why don't you review Weird Al's musical parity of Jurassic Park?
It uses claymation and everything!
😂
Because getting disembowled,
always makes me kiiiiiiinda mad
I love that song haha
Such a great song for the ages!!!
“And I know they’re here to harm me, cause they sure don’t act like Barney, and they think that I’m their dinner not their friend....oh nooooooooo!!”
Hahahahaha
That comment about the lawyer is still priceless. 😂
As always another excellent video of yours! Thrilling storytelling of Crichton's work and nice job with the image edition! Congratulations for your channel and your videos, the very best in Jurassic Park content.
it’s been a few years since i read this last, but seeing your recent videos mentioning it has me wanting to pick it up again as soon as i can find my copy. great video as always!
The scene needs more John Rhys-Davies.
Are you stalking me? Just finished this today and you just talked about the scene from the JP book a day after I finished listening to it.
lol this one actually was planned 3 weeks ago. I've been working on it for days 😂
Love your vids btw Klayton!
I'm glad I found this! this part had my heart thumping when I read it for the first time! great job on all of your videos! you've earned a sub my friend!
AMAZING!!!!!! would love to see this scene!!!!!
I havent fully read the second novel yet so, no spoilers for me! P.s. ik you are busy klayton but any chance of going back to discord to discuss some more stuff for the second announcement for my game?
I'll be on sometime soon dude, but not too sure when. I promise I'll be there a couple times this week for sure. I need to get ready for the UK trip as well :D
I think you got King and Basselton mixed up.
What I mean is, the book refers to Howard being tall and slender, while referring to Basselton as being shorter and stout, and bearded. It seems like your depictions of the two of them are almost completely backwards.
You may want to remember that for a future Easter Egg Hunt ;)
"No promises"
cripes, now I've done it...
Personally this and the carnatosaur sequence you read are my favorites of your storytelling episodes. You capture the atmosphere and emotions pretty spot on
