Okay guys, in this video I go into detail about just how Peter Ludlow was supposed to die in The Lost World: Jurassic Park before the ending was moved to San Diego. This version of the script has quite a lot of changes in the 3rd act that I think are pretty serious. In my opinion the way Jurassic Park 2 currently is, is honestly incredible but I gotta say I love hearing about deleted scenes and other versions of films from Steven Spielberg like this. Hope you guys enjoy this intense scene with Peter, Roland and the Buck T-rex! :D
Pin?
nuh uh

Sweet i wasnt pinned👍
Jokes on you! Everyone he pins will be sacrificed to Rexy!

I can totally hear Roland saying, with an anxiety-ridden but calm and whispering voice: "Let it go, Peter, the animal won!" Awesome scene!
Me too. Man was done in by his own hubris.
Especially when you see that deleted scene where Roland tells his friend a true hunter doesn't mind when the animal wins.
Roland Tembo is an absolute Chad. The scene where Ian and co are trying to climb up the cliff and it’s Roland’s hand outstretched, rescuing them is one of my absolute favorite scenes in the whole franchise.
I like to picture a Jurassic Park 7 where me, Roland Tembo, and Robert Muldune all go to Las Vegas for a bachelor party singing "🎶 We're the 3 best friends that anyone can have, 🎵 we're the 3 best friends that anyone can have.............🎶"
When I was younger I thought it was Eddie's hand 😂
I don't know why they cut the scene where Roland is introduced with the dunks in the bar harassing the waitress.
It's a perfect introduction for Roland Tembo's character and tells the viewer all we need to know about him.
Without that scene Tembo can come across as an asshole, as the main introduction to him is him breaking the baby rexes leg to lure the Buck.
Damn, this makes Roland even more of a badass. It really showcases his hunting smarts, especially when he warns Ludlow to let things go because the Buck has them dead to rights. I like the use of Dodgson's novel death here, but I really like the buildup to it. They probably deleted this in favor of the San Diego sequence and killing Ludlow there, but this would have been awesome nonetheless.
The suspense was the best bit, a damn T Rex right behind you, breathing down your neck while you anxiously wait for it to go or make its move... Knowing you're doomed either way, with Roland admitting defeat and finding himself in the worse place, the hunter becoming the hunted.
It would have been so much better imo.
Its also a beautiful ending to Roland's story, it still follows the trope of the hunter becoming the hunted but also subverts it when he learns his lesson and admits he is not the greatest hunter on the planet anymore and accepts his defeat with grace. His search for the ultimate hunt has come to an end and hes been defeated but not horrifically killed. Roland's story is that of a man seeking to test his limitations as a hunter, which he does in this version.
younger me thought Roland was just in between as a good or bad guy... I was young so my focus was more into making sure the humans were gonna survive... though I knew some had to die... older me sees Roland as one of my favorite characters and the complexity of nature not caring for remorse as this is what life truly is.... cruel... survival...
This would have been so much better than the San Diego sequence, where the Rex rampaged through the city, wish it was made as a deleted scene and kept in special features as an alternate ending
T-Rex was like "live and let live" starts walking away knowing he has to feed it's baby. But someone lost their mind and T-Rex wasn't having none of it. It kinda gave you a warning but Ludlow ignored it.
I remember reading a book version of the second movie where Ludlow was actually the one responsible for breaking the baby Rex's leg in the first place, as he had stepped on it accidentally when they were setting up the initial trap.
Hence, Ludlow getting his leg broken by the male Rex at the end (in either this script or the final film) was true karma. I disliked that point being left out of the film as it left the appearance that Roland had broken the baby's leg somehow, which made him seem more heartless of a character than he actually was.
I remember reading that in the junior novelization of the Lost World and Roland was pretty pissed that Ludlow did that.
Yeah I think originally he was to get drunk and fall on the baby's leg. Afterwards I think Roland would have gotten angry at him, really continuing to make Roland out to be a good guy.
@@CeceGames ya there was a deleted scene they did film of exactly that
@@melissalayson7275 Well he's a hunter who actually understands nature so to him breaking the baby rex's leg is just pointless and cruel as it won't be able to survive in the wild. Roland never intended to kill anything other than the Buck Trex, but he was fully willing to break his own rule about killing a mother animal when the Doe attacked the camp in order to save his men. I never saw Roland as fully good or evil, he's a good man and an honorable one which is something almost rare nowadays but he also has his flaws and shortcomings like his lack of empathy when Eddie Carr was killed which Ian called him out on. Roland along with Ian are the only two characters with common sense in the movie fully aware of the situation they are in and how dangerous it is.
I do remember in comic book version of the movie Ludlow accidently tripped on the baby rex and broke the leg in the process.
I feel this adds an interesting layer to Roland's character since he was in a situation where he had no choice but to admit defeat. And Peter directly got himself killed in this.
almost all awesome Roland scenes where cut. WHYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
dragonstormx In another deleted scene he said “A true hunter don’t mind if the animal wins” it shows Roland is a hunter but he respects animals knowing that hunting is a contest of honor and respect but to hear him say in this video “the animal won” that would have been a wow moment for the movie.
Honestly if the movie had made Roland the main protagonist instead of Ian Malcolm, the movie would have been infinitely better.
@@jongon0848 agreed
Make the film about Roland struggling to keep the mercenaries alive while struggling to deal with Peter's incompetence and Nick's sabotage then?
In all honesty. I think I prefer this ending.
1: Roland actually shows off his hunting expertise and knowledge
2: he had intention of using the Nitro.
3: Calm and Collected under danger of the Buck.
Survival Rating: When in a dangerous situation have a Roland with you.
Put that on a sign

@@CeceGames It's dangerous to go alone. Take Roland!
@@jvccr7533 i felt for him. He at least could have still be fine to walk out of this empty handed and get the thrill of it if not for the lost of his best friends. Not getting his hunting price that ok. But losing his best friend for this is not worth it. Especially he couldn't be beside him.

@@KlaytonFioriti INGEN: ILL TAKE IT!
There’s a subtle reference to a previous deleted scene in this. When Roland says “a true hunter doesn’t mind if the animal wins” and later in this scene he says “it’s over, the animal won”
Damn that's two great lines which basically start and end Roland's character arc
He gives props to the raptors "Clever girl". That's a high compliment coming from him.
@@rxonmymind8362 hunters of any species always have that unspoken respect for one another when they can outwit one another. The raptor from the clever girl scene killed him for sure but she gave him time to see he was outsmarted and in a way showed him a bit of respect. Hunter to hunter.
I got chills listening to this. I actually was afraid that Roland was going die because of Ludlow's stupidity. Though I love the ending to TLW, this would have been haunted my 6 yr old dreams for months and would probably have been my favorite ending to any JP film.
I was afraid that Roland was going to die as well. Beautiful narration.
I felt sick listening to this. This is a more horrifying ending than the actual ending!!!
That was a great narrating job. Practically saw the scene we missed.
Ikr?
I did see it. Thankfully I have a good book reader inner mindscape. But damn would this have been great on screen.
Wow...I really enjoyed the absurdity of the Rex being loose in San Diego, but this ending is much more in line with the rest of the movie's tone and probably would have served the film better.
There is no such thing as "absurd".
Not to mention more faithful to the book.
@@robinhyperlord9053 What an absurd thing to say.
@@varanid9

@@robinhyperlord9053 The absurd notion that the word "absurd" doesn't exist.
4:34 This part actually explains why Nick identified himself as Harvest Leader over the radio. As a kid I never understood how he came up with that name.
It was written down in Ludlows notebook, the Harvest Leader, along with the frequency number of the airlift, their coordinates, and a map of the island.
There's literally a scene where Roland takes the notebook from Ludlow and gives it to Ajay saying, "we'll take those", right after the Rexs attack the trailers and the two groups unite. And then later, Nick fortunately happens to find Ajay's backpack that he threw away in the long grass, after the raptors attack, with the notebook inside.
I understand you were a kid, but this was already explained in the movie. 😅 My question, as a kid and still to this say, is what they planned to do if they didn't recover Ajay's backpack because he was nice enough to leave it there before getting killed.
@@VitZ9 or Why did Ajay throw the pack away and continue to run into the long grass, after explicitly telling everyone to stay out of the long grass lol
I don't get why anyone would delete such an awesome scene! :D
True
I know! they always say "to save time"...yea because an extra 8 mins of pure adrenaline pumping suspense will destroy the movie....thats what we paid money for!!!!!! give us action and thrills (even if it means tacking on another lousy few mins) sheesh
Although as I've understood it, it wasn't shot at all, only written. And it wasn't a scene which could have been used additionally: If Ludlow died back on the island, there probably wouldn't have been any reason to bring the rex to the mainland and for the San Diego incident to take place.
True
twothreenine maybe the San Diego incident shouldn't been a plot point in JP2. JP: San Diego could have been an entire separate movie easily.
As a kid watching "The Lost World" on VHS really added more to the dark theme/atmosphere.
This is beyond Amazing. This would have added more Rex, without the Godzilla ending.
I still like the ending, especially since I love San Diego, but this is great. We could really use this in a Film.
aparently the san diego scene is based on the original the lost world film
yeah, kind of what happened to dodgson in the book
Bryce McKenzie hope they use that concept in Jurassic World 3. I would love to see it.
i love how the San Diego scenes were filmed in Burbank, CA
A lot of people criticize the San Diego scene but completely forget how essential is was for the film's universe
Honestly, this has to be the most tragic cut that has ever happened. This has so much suspense to it and a poetic scene to end two characters- one for his hubris and one as a man who finally met his match and accepted it.
This would have undoubtably been a trump card ending to all JP movies to come. You'd not be able to top it. It would whisper just as profoundly as the last scene in the Lost World book...
I grieve this loss.
somehting similiar could always happen in dominion.
@@RJPalat no
This ending have been so much better because the San Diego sequence ruined the film for me
Now we finally know how Eric Kirby got that piss
lol
As a kid I always pictured him standing under the trex with the jar catching the pee.
@@joeywalker2061 Yes! Same here. I just assumed Eric stood underneath a t-rex as it pissed 😧
Wylie Anderson that’s a little not okay
the jar was empty remember. Roland tipped all of it out at the village.
I love how fair Roland is. Hes a respectable Hunter. If he win he wins, but hes not scared to admit when the animal wins. His knowledge of hunting baffles me as well
So the way Dodson met his demise in the book. I'd like that 👌
Exactly what I was just thinking
I got the biggest deja vu to that ever!
Mills death was based on Dodson, he was undr a car, then he came out when he thought it was safe but he gets eaten by Rexie. Dodson gets pushed away ftom the car and then eaten.
Anthony Keslin “we got Dodson here!”
YEAH IT VERY SIMILAR
Mr Rex: Leaves cause he isnt threatened.
Ludlow: Decides to threaten Mr Rex.
Mr Rex: I tried to warn you...
Baby Rex: Yes.
Those edits were so suspenseful Klayton, honestly good job

That's heart-pounding, even just listening to you describe it
Same, dude.
Roland was already my favourite character in the Lost World but now he's even more badass.
Till this day, one Clayton's best narration of this scene.
This would of been amazing to see play out on screen. Not only would we still get plenty of t-Rex action, we would of also got to see more of Roland and his skills as a hunter. Sure he lost in this version and didn’t get his trophy, but we get to see him respect the rex and say that he lost. Now that’s great. Great video, and thank you for sharing this.
As overrated as the first JP movies are, JW crap doesn't hold a candle to them
I imagine there's an alternate universe out there when Muldoon survived, Bob Peck lived, Muldoon went to Site B with Ian Malcom's crew, and he and Tembo had great back-and-forths and badass scenes throughout the film
My god I wish that was in the original movie instead of the San Diego scene.
I loved the San Diego scene as a kid, but watching it now as an adult i just find it silly & off putting. You'd expect this from a godzilla movie than a jurassic park movie.
Abel Mantor fun fact: A Japanese person running away screams: I CAME HERE TO GET AWAY FROM THIS!(implying Godzilla)
That’s the only thing I didn’t like about the lost world tbh
This was so entertaining! You should do an audiobook or something, Klayton; you have a FANTASTIC voice.
Why would this scene get deleted? This seems like a better ending scene.
@Aji Amaral no, that's not the case at all.
What with some of the other scenes, like the dog being eaten.
Kirbyex7 i don’t remember a dog being eaten
@@ricpeden7499 San Diego, right after the Rex drank from the pool
@Kirbyex7 no. To keep it rated 13. I think alot of scenes had to be cut for Budget, time and to keep it rated 13. And remember, this was the 90s. Not today's standards.
It gave me chills anyway as a kid, any time I woke up at night I wouldn’t move at all, and listen closely, in case there’s a Rex in our garden, watching me through the window 😀
This would've been so cool to see! Tembo was an amazing character.
Wow, what a different ending!! They definitely adapted the last part to fit the ending they used, the way the male rex wounds Ludlow. Holy cow, how terrifying would it have been to be CARRIED in the rex's mouth, only to be dumped in the nest as food for the young one... eek!!
Ludlow’s original death is very similar to Dodgson in the Lost World novel, only it’s not the 3 tyrannosaur babies that kill him by biting on his face.
EDIT: Now that Dodgson himself will be in JW: Dominion, there is a high chance this could happen to him, Klayton.
:)
This didn't.
But what did was just as fitting.

@@CeceGames I would highly recommend them! They are both really great reads!
I like the scene itself but I'm glad this wasn't in the movie. Because we would not have gotten the 'company of death' scene between Ludlow and Roland.
LedosKell I have a feeling we still could have gotten that line of this happened.
Mostly in time with someone saying "we've got to go after it!"
He turns, slowly and firmly with a tone that is all too knowing that there is simply no reason anymore, "We've spent enough time in the company of death..."
"This is T. rex pee? How'd you get it?" "You don't want to know."
F o o t p r I n t
Roland: "No animal on this island wants nothing to do with it"
Spino (though not bred yet) : "I'd beg to differ!"

The way you described that scene had me in a trance. I had goosebumps and was feeling anxious. Damn, great job. That scene sounds amazing.
I’m so annoyed that they deleted that scene! That would have been just as intense as the raptor kitchen scene!
I agree, T-rex with internet
Roland, supposedly the world's greatest hunter, has to admit defeat, and Ludlow gets torn apart by the baby rex. I would definitely have preferred this over the San Diego incident. And best of all, there's not a single "kicking a raptor out of a window" in sight.
In five films, he's still the only hunter to survive
Michael Russel
Well since Pete died I'm pretty sure that Roland's dead as well, like with Richard and Hammond.
But he died in retirement he had his life full of adventure and excitement and survived an island full of dinosaurs I think we can be happy that he got a happy ending
How does the baby rex come to mainland? Who hunted it and when, in the original movie
Without a doubt that would have been an awesome addition to the lost world. Especially the part with the Rex camouflaged against the background
Wow... This scene just sounds AWESOME!
I already like the kinda "cheesy" vilanny death Ludlow gets in the film, but this is even better. I hope JW3 gets to adapt this death one way or another... Maybe for a certain scientist... (even though I agree with people that he should die by a Raptor)
That "scientist" changed his ways
Another scientist who helped biosyn shared the same fate as Dennis
I got really into this, imagining the scene and my heart was just racing.
My only real issue with this scene (and it could be why it was cut) is that I highly doubt Roland would let Ludlow tag along on his big hunt. Regardless of his employment under the man. I mean he doesn't care about the money only the Buck. So to bring along such a spineless, business man along who's liable to ruin the hunt...just doesn't seem Roland's idea of a foolproof plan. But thats nitpicking.
Agreed, the only reason a professional big game hunter would bring someone like ludlow along is for bait lol "Roland" hey Ludlow do me a favor ehh, stand over there a moment and flap your arms a bit....No reason.."
Yeah I agree. I believe he even mentions during the big chase scene with all the cars something about having "too many hunts ruined by inexperienced businessmen to have this one ruined as well".
I believe the exact quote was “But, I’ve been on too many safaris with rich dentists to listen to any more suicidal ideas, okay?” ;)
He's gone on too many safaris with rich dentists for any more suicidal ideas, ok?
@@CeceGames .....(Smiles) OKAY!
I would have preferred this, with a small addendum: Keep the original ending, yes, but the other rex continues to chase the survivors into the village. Meanwhile, the raptors, awakened by the commotion, try to defend their territory as the rex does battle with them.
In my opinion, a rex/raptor rematch is a fair trade for the San Diego incident. Also, Roland opting to act as the cavalry would definitely add an extra layer to his character and be consistent with his code of honor. (And as we know, he's fine with his quarry getting away anyway).
What would of been awesome in this original script is if the carnotaurus scene from the second novel was featured before the survivors get attacked by velociraptors.

The death of Peter Ludlow in this unused script perfectly reflects the actual death of Lewis Dodgson in the Lost World book. I kind of expected you will mention it in the video at the end :-D
It's crazy how when I was listening to this, a loud as FUCK thunder cracked right above my house, I nearly had a heart attack. Got chills.

Wow, even though I really enjoyed the San Diego incident, this just sounds so cool! I would have loved this! It even takes inspiration from Lewis Dodgson's death in The Lost World novel. Of course, with this, they would have less reason to cut the scene where Peter fell and broke the baby's leg, since it would come full circle here. The urine scene was a really good idea, and would have made Roland even more awesome then he already is.
Doubt we'll see this revisited, but man would I love seeing this!
The narration here is arguably a lot more chilling than the movie itself.
I really didn’t know about the scene but Spielberg changed it from something different.
Maybe because it was to dark for him .
@@Lordeightbane remember the ending of raiders of the lost ark
The Ludlow scene is still there, albeit somewhat changed due to the change in setting for third act, and both this, and the movie version borrow this idea of the Ludlow (Dodgson in the book) being devoured by the infant T rex in the novel, although it was two rexs I believe, and they sported a downy feather coat as described in the book.
The Lost World is a mess far as the third act goes where the San Diego sequence does feel shoehorned in, but the movie does tease early on the intentions of bringing dinosaurs back to the mainland, so it's not as out there as some make it out to be. It's a sequence that delivers overall, but the setup to it is pretty poorly executed.
Roland Tembo which was a good made up character in the movie adaptation doesn't really get a proper end, and this deleted/scrapped scene would've given him more screen time so for that reason alone it's a shame this was never filmed.
It actually 3 baby T-Rexs in the novel.
Actually I would argue Roland got the best ending scene for a character in the entire franchise.
He pretty much says fuck it, I've had enough of this shit, "I've spent enough time in the company of death", and walks off into the light and an awaiting helicopter.
Can't get more badass than that.
Dude, you're a great narrator. I enjoyed hearing you read it as much as I liked the script itself.
As far as the scene?
-Yes. This would make a classic scene in the franchise. Unforgettable with fans. I'd vote it needs to be.
Man I can never get over how great you make these videos, Klayton. These are my favorite from your channel, either the novel reads or vids like this. The images on screen, sound effects, and tone of voice/music is perfect. Great job man.
P.s. the Rex acting still as "a boulder" opening its eyes reminds me of the indoraptor cage scene from fallen kingdom. Super freaky stuff, I'd also love to see it on JW3!
7:10 Horrifying
I feel like I was on Sorna and my nightmare happened
To think we nearly had the cathartic, brutal end of Lewis Dodgson adapted to the screen (just with a different character).
Well, considering Dodgson's due to return in Dominion, we may finally get to see that memorable moment on the silver screen.
This scene would be amazing in the final scene. Especially if Dr. Wu's fate ended in this manner for his folly and huberous
He deserves to have something he created be what kills him furthermore it has to be after he foolishly believes he has somehow beaten this particular creation
Cool but, imagine this;
How ironically cool would it be if he gets killed by Blue in a manner similar to that of the first novel? Because I seem to remember hearing he meets his demise at the hands of raptors in the novel.
The way your read this and constructed the video, it was amazing! I can watch you read an entire book or the script of an entire movie like this... Really good job with this video.
I think this should be The opening scene for jw3
That could work, some hunters are trying to take down rexy and she appears behind them.
YES THAT WOULD BE AWESOME
Luis Saul Jurassic shiny hunter
That would make the best opening in the Jurassic franchise.
Possibly better than Fallen Kingdom’s.
That was a really amazing scene and it actually makes me think it would be awesome for a movie with a character who is a hunter and not a paleontologist or animal handler. The reason this scene got cut, I can bet is because this whole somewhat climax of the movie doesn’t even have the main actor in it. Having seen a lot of BS Hollywood decisions, I feel that was why the ending was altered.
This hunting scene is extremely awesome. And Ludlow in the nest is just like in the novel. I would have loved this in the movie too.
Not sure how they would incorporate this in the new movie what with no male Rexes confirmed alive.
Actually the Buck and the Doe are still alive. They appeared at the end of Dominion
Dude! I have been loving your videos. This is a great deleted scene and I love listening you reenact it. It's like listening to an audio book. You make it very intense and suspenseful! Great job! Applause all around.
I’m honestly surprised this hasn’t been adapted yet in a movie
This really gives me book vibes❤ It is even better than the book scene, when Sara kicked Dodgson away from the car. Really great.
I love the ending we got, but this would've been amazing to see. I'm especially glad they didn't kill off Roland in this.
The Lost World is a great film, but damn. This is by far a better death scene for Peter. The entirety of the scene described in this video would have been great if it was put in the movie. Everything in this video was just great. The images and you narrating. Good shit.
That is much Better than the final ending.

Man I remember loving this movie as a kid, even the ending scene. I'm a teen now and I would like to see a scene like this and I wish they kept it in the movie, but I guess budget reasons. It's much more terrifying then the ending.
the way you read it with voice etc almost made me wish i never click on this video, thats how good that part is, hearing it out loud just makes it sound so awesome
I could definitely seen a scene like this happen in the 3rd jurassic world film. Like two hunters are hunting Rexy/Roberta, who may have been currently be in a dark forest area
So they could display it as an exhibit and make money, money to save InGen.
You’ve turned the best film franchise ever into a potential degree subject with your videos. Loved this one!
Hey Klayton do you ever think we’ll see a Carno use is camo ability?
Probably not but who knows! It could happen in some way :D
CAMO CARNO:a Jurassic story
I doubt it, that ability was given to the I. Rex and while it cool at this point it would feel trite and it’s not something the real one would have had
I could feel every word you were saying.. kudos to your narration and editing! 👏👏👏👏
I would definitely love to see that scene.
I'm all for this, as long as it was slightly shortened towards the end. Sort of like the original Jurassic Park and the "spitter scene."
Omg I wish this was the ending of the lost world. That was my favorite movie too.
JEEEZ your tone, sound effects, and visuals make this SOOO eerie I LOVE IT ❤❤❤❤
Awesome, so it would've been like Dodgson's death in the TLW novel, which, I agree with you, is an awesome sequence. It's really too bad, it seems like there were many options on scenes that they could've gone with in TLW that would've been superior to what we got in the film, and yet they didn't. Tracking the Rex would've terrified me had this scene made it. Although I'm glad part of it is still intact when Ludlow is killed in the boat. I mean I enjoy TLW for what we got, but out of all the sequels, I think TLW had the most potentional and IMHO it juust misses the boat. (Pun intended?) :)
Love the dark music when the buck opens his eye
just like dodgeson's scene in the book
Honestly speaking, and as much as I also love the Buck rampaging in San Diego, I would have preferred this ending. Not only does it show Roland demonstrating more of his jungle smarts, giving Peter Postlethwaite's character more screen time (seriously huge fan of Roland and how Peter Postlethwaite played the character), but also just how tense and dark this scene is, which fits the tone of the film. And also mixing in the irony; Ludlow came to this island to retrieve his assets, stating that because his company was the one that made these animals, they have no rights and can be considered company products instead of living breathing animals with minds and instincts of their own. And his mission to pillage and bring back these 'products' into captivity only results in him becoming prey for the assets in their territory, almost proving Hammond's words that these animals are thriving fine without human intervention. All in all, I completely agree with you Klayton that this scene would have been an incredible addition to the final film.
Klayton Fioriti 6:55 SCARY MUSIC!! 😟😳🤫
