He died from a heart attack September 2003 in Paris at the age of 54.For years he was voted best dressed by GQ Magazine. The girls were there for eye candy.
They say he was a heavy smoker:-((
He was a fly ass dude
Yeah, He was simply Irresistible 😍🤭💘
@Faqyur Ma'ama no,it was a heart attack. They don't know what caused the heart attack, but that was definitely the cause. He had just done a concert and was taking a break in Paris.
I've seen it said many times that the girls in the band were all top fashion models in Europe.
This was huge on MTV in the 80’s. Yep, showing my age
That’s ok 👍!! I remember it too , my kids and I use to dance to it!
I am pretty sure without the video, this song would have not been such a big hit.
Judging by the way you got into this one, you need to react to him doing "Some Like It Hot" with The Power Station supergroup.
Burt Gummerfan yes, love it!!
Yes! And same! 😆
Ridiculously talented bloke from the UK, died too young.. You should react to his song called Bad Case Of Loving You
Bad Case of Loving You is a great song, whether it's Robert Palmer's 1979 cover or John "Moon" Martin's 1978 original. I prefer the latter but it's close.
True true
Or "Looking For Clues."
"She makes my day" was always one of my favourites
Bad Case of Loving You. That’s my favourite Robert P song. I love it.
Huge, HUGE in the 80’s! “Simply irresistible” and “I didn’t mean to turn you on.” We rocked these out back in the day! ❤️💛💟☮️
Palmer always reminded me of my stock broker moonlighting as a rock star.
I think that was the attraction in the 80's! One of the stock brokers that had the money to play the field.
Huey Lewis wrote a song called Hip to Be Square. Welcome to the dumbass 80s.
Yeap
Robert Palmer belongs in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame....he was an exceptional performer
This was the best single of 1986! What a groove ! The lyrics are outstanding and Robert’s phrasing is top shelf.
Back in day, Robert Palmer was called
🗣️Blue-Eye Soul..🌹 Great Song 🎶
OMG... Oh bring them back! Loved "Addicted To Love..." and yes, it honestly is about being addicted to being in love. That new love... Can't think, eat, breath, forever in love love... Just dream of that special one who stolen your heart
Big time! My "addiction" and I got married, had this song in our wedding...He stated in his vows "Might as well face it, I'm addicted to her love," and kissed me! My husband, who has passed... to this day.. Is, was, will ever be that love for me.. 🥰❤️😍 great one... Thank you girlfriend😘
You are a blessed woman to have had the love of a good man
It has nothing to do with drugs. He is really singing about love.
That's the ultimate drug.
Palmer has said that it was originally Addicted to Drugs, but he changed the lyric to love.
@@daniellogan-scott5968 It's not love or drugs... it's lust. "Love" in this case is a euphemism for sex. He's describing being horny. I'm surprised so many people seemed to have missed that...
It was originally intended to be a duet with Chaka Khan. I find it hard to imagine Ms. Khan, and Mr. Palmer singing back and forth about their addiction to drugs.
@@Pernicion Both can be true. Palmer said that the original lyric was drugs, but he changed it. Perhaps the planned duet came after the change. Maybe Palmer changed it when it was just himself and a pad of paper.
@@daniellogan-scott5968 The closest I can find to what you're talking about, is that Palmer once said it was about having an "addictive personality".
Think about this -- He's using the language of addiction and drugs to describe attraction (not an original thought, but interesting).
You're saying -- "No, no, he intended to use the language of addiction and drugs to describe drugs."
This just isn't how songs are generally written.
Shania Twain's "Man i feel like a woman" was her paying homage to Robert Palmer...and this classic. Keep it going mamma bear :)
Now that you've reacted to "Addicted to Love", may I suggest the official music video for Shania Twain's "Man, I Feel Like a Woman". You'll see why when you see the video.
Yup, that's for sure!
He was so great. And from most things I read about him, he was a class act, a gentleman....I am sure there are probably some people running around out there in the world that might have had a negative experience with him....but I have never heard a bad word about him. RIP.
This video and his Simply Irresistible video, are so great. I remember being a little kid and wanting to look like one of these woman lol
🎼🎆🎇🧨
So did I! :^)
Same i wanted to be one of them!
The women loved Robert Palmer, the guys loved the women in his videos! Great reaction ❤️
You should react to Robert Palmer ‘I Didn’t Mean To Turn You On’.
Yes!
@Atheos B. Sapien I like that one also!
@@lennyloves4518 I was going to say that as well! My favorite by Robert Palmer!
Yes
@Atheos B. Sapien SO MUCH!
I don't tear up when celebs die , I wasn't right for 3wks after Robert died. Such a "die hard fan boy"
Missed you!!! The song is all about a very, very, healthy libido.
That's the best way to describe what the song's about!
Amen
Actually, this song was originally about cocaine addiction, cocaine also is called "love." The promoters were afraid to use its original title "Addicted to Drugs"
@@AnthonyL0401 Really? I think 9 out of 10 Doctors Doctors would give you the news...you got a...bad case of drugs in you. ;^)
@@danielbruns7055 I'm sorry bayyybe, I didn't mean to drug you up...
Love is the drug he's talking about! Been there, done that! A sad day in music when he passed 😥
I remember this when it was in the charts. It’s a great song. The girls did a great job adding life to the video. They were models , not musicians. I think you need to listen to three Robert Palmer songs. This one, Looking For Clues, and Bad Case of Loving You. I don’t think there’s any hidden message in this song. It’s about love and attraction. Talking of Love as a drug, why don’t you react to the fabulous Roxy Music song Love is the Drug. It has a cracking video too. Of the girls on the video here, I saw a video where they were interviewed years later. It was interesting light hearted viewing and I’m sure it’s out there on the net somewhere.
A huge hit in the 1980’s. Great song with incredible vocals and rhythm.
The girls were all fashion models working in London at the time. They were chosen by well known fashion photographer Terence Donovan who also shot the video. The girls didn't know each other before the shoot but became great friends and have remained in touch to this day. In an interview a couple of years ago they were asked what was the hardest part of the video and one of them said "having to leave at the end!"
OHH MYYY! I love Robert Palmer! I love THIS SONG! 😍😍😍
the best-dressed man in rock! with that voice as well yesyes India go down the rabbit hole,
He was amazing.....have major crush on him still....love is the drug
This is an icon among early music videos. One of the most memorable in my life of watching music videos.
Robert Palmer was a member of the group Power Station. I'd like to see a reaction to Some Like it Hot, by Power Station.
Yes!! Him and half of Duran Duran was a great music collaboration.
The late great Robert Palmer has that soothing blue-eyed soul sound that just worked so well with hard driving rock (check out "Some Like It Hot" by Power Station), reggae, pop, R&B. I loved his "Sneaking Sally Through the Alley" album as well as "Pressure Drop", "Clues" and "Double Fun".
Lol I love her reactions. Her face is so expressive!
Since I was Little I was Addicted to Robert Palmer..He was Just Soooo COOL
So you liked that video, I know you did as I was watching your face and paying attention to your body language.
'Simply irresistible' and 'I didn't mean to turn you on' I would rate alongside addicted to love.
I knew Allan Robert Palmer way back in the late 60s when he was the singer for our local band..'The Mandrakes'. I recall having to extricate him and some of the band from a venue in Rotherham when they were being chased down the street by young ladies who wanted his 'autograph'. The band designated me the 'Roady' because I was the guy with the Ford Zodiac.
Wherever the band performed they were a 'Sell out'.
Hey, High 5s and respects to the Late Robert Palmer, from Bridlington, East Yorkshire, United Kingdom.
I'm proud to have had an association with him and his band.
I feel super old watching this video being reacted to in 2020. Love me some Robert Palmer. Can't even tell you how many times I played this song in my younger years. This video is super memorable. When someone mentions this song the first thing I think about is this video. Love is a drug. RIP Robert.
RIP Robert you're sadly missed. Loved the song and video when it came out in the 80's when I was a teenager. Pretty sure if you look closely you can see Robert in the video somewhere but my eyes can't seem to find him.
LMAO ! I was in Thailand when this was booming out in every bar ! I was certainly addicted to love !
More seriously, Robert Palmer , a great and by many an unappreciated artist with a wide sweep of musical content.
I highly recommend you listen too "History" + "Housework" + " Johnny & Mary" + many others , you won't be disappointed .
Rober Palmer - "Every Kinda People"
That was a good song from him.
So many memories to that song... it' s so great!
One of his best... Marvin Gaye wrote that for him...LOVE It
@@DarkSuperSonic-lu1pt Um...it was written by Andy Fraser, bassist of Free.
Palmer was a guy who never wanted to be sterotyped in one genre of music, and aren't we thankful that songs like Every Kinda People came our way. Severely underrated songwriter and singer...RIP.
Love your reactions India. This one is gold
That was a blast from the past! Thanks India! Shania Twain does a parody of this video that's pretty funny. Glad to see you're staying safe.
You GOTTA do a reaction to his Sneakin'' Sally Through The Alley. What. A. GROOVE!
India, you are the cutest, sweetest, funniest girl on UA-cam! I love your reactions to these songs. I would LIVE to make you smile every day!
Robert Palmer was the classiest man in music. He was also the most well-respected. He was a celebrity among celebrities in the music industry for his diverse portfolio of music. There was no genre, no style that Robert would not dabble in if it produced good music. He had a very eclectic style, if people are willing to listen beyond "Addicted to Love".
React to Robert Palmer's "I Didn't Mean to Turn You On".
or try the original Cherrelle... video is a bit silly but the song was timely in telling girls going on a date doesn't mean you owe anyone anything!! I told you twice I was only trying to be nice! Now you take me home and tell me goodnight's not enough for you....
I loved you as a friend but I guess this is the end of our relationship cuz I didn't mean to turn you on
@@funnyaura
Robert Palmer cover is completely better than the original's Cherrelle version.
@@Alejandro-pg6ng great thing about this country... you are completely within your rights to express your incorrect opinion and I will fight anyone who tries to deny you that ;-)
I saw Robert Palmer at a small venue in Cleveland years ago. Maybe 700 people. His band was crazy good.
This man COMMANDED THE STAGE
Still totally dance-able...wish my knee's still worked like they did back then, but I was a boogie'n in my chair! Ha! Class of 81 represented!
Everything was moving on the beat - Have you done Huey Lewis - “I want a new drug”?
LOVED Huey Lewis and the News!
The video was the idea of the late Terence Donovan, who was a fashion photographer for Vogue and Harper's magazine.
The models were filmed separately and Robert Palmer performed in front of a blue screen, the two images were put together by Donovan.
The song was originally called Addicted To Drugs, but someone had the idea of making it a romantic song instead.
A nice idea as it turned out.
Him, Rod Stewart Barry Gibb & The Bee Gees were also considered to be Fashion Plate. He was supposed to do it as a Duet with Chaka Khan but it wasn't allowed due to "Politics". It was during a major comeback for him. He was popular since the late 1970's with Bad Case Of Loving You, You're In My System (Originally Done By The System). He also did a Cover Version of I Didn't Mean To Turn You On originally done by Cherelle who did the hit duet Saturday Love. He came back thanks to The Power Station which was a outside project of Duran Duran with himself, Andy Taylor, Roger Taylor, and the late Tony Thompson former Drummer For Chic.
The 80's rock bands were and was the stuff. All of Mr. Palmers music and videos was that darn good.
It was about Love and Love only and the craziness of the effects it has on you when you're in it's grip.
Fantastic, Robert Palmer , R.I.P. You Were So Cool.
This jam was ubiquitous back in the spring and summer of 1986, it was all over radio and MTV...it was a #1 hit for a good reason...I remember my junior high graduation dance that year, this was the song the dj was playing when I walked into our gymnasium, I knew me and classmates were gonna have one final blast before enjoying the summer...👍🏿😁🎵🎶
Love the t shirt by the way and fab reaction i hated this song when it came out but grew to to love it over the years
Super overlooked singer (his vocal range was crazy impressive) His work with the super group (The Power Station) is really great stuff pure 80’s in a good way! a guy the world lost way to early
Robert Palmer’s swagger was off the chart’s and was cool as ice. He was badass and his remake of YOUR IN MY SYSTEM is the best.
Great song perfect match with hair and pink Floyd shirt nice
This was my favorite song at one time.. still love it so much!!!
Robert Palmer...the best dressed man in Rock & Roll.
I remember when this video came out. Popular. I still like it. Love is like a drug and it’ll make you not eat or sleep.
From back when MTV was Awesome!!!😎👍
Hi India. Back in the 80's there were paintings done of a woman(or women) that had this kind of make up on with a fedora tipped to cover one eye and a blazer with shoulder pads. I had one up on my wall. I still might have it down in my garage. We dressed like these ladies back then to go out. Anybody else remember these paintings? RIP Robert Palmer.
Robert Palmer's cover of Early In The Morning by the Gap Band is EXCELLENT!!!
Great track, it was everywhere when it was released!
Another Robert Palmer classic is She makes my day
Such a simple song and even more simple video and somehow they became iconic.
I haven't heard this song in a VERY long time. It's gotta be 20+ years.
This is what I'm saying about you, you got it straight away, it was originally " addicted to drugs" but it wouldn't have got radio play, so they changed it to " addicted to love" you nailed it
such a pleasure watching you enjoying the video (and I love your hair, btw. looks great!). years ago on Saturday Night Live, Gena Davis was a guest on the show, and they did a skit based on Robert Palmer's dancers. Gena's character was having identity issues... considering how all alike they look!
YOU ARE A ROCKER BABE!... I love how you pull Brits, and Mexicans ABBA, TOM JONES. YOU ARE THE BEST! WAITING FOR THE BEATLES AND THE STONES !
Andy Taylor on lead guitar. Tony Thompson on drums. They + RP were in the supergroup Power Station. RIP Robert Palmer, Tony Thompson and producer + basd guitarist Bernard Edwards.
Every Kind Of People is a great song and message
About time Robert Palmer got loved by people of all ages 🙏
Check out his version of I Didn't Mean To Turn You On. A young black girl recorded it first. But he said it was inappropriate for a young girl to sing it. And he sang it girl! Also listen to Every Kind Of People. This guy was so good!
This was his biggest hit here. Simply irresistible was after this song on the next album I believe... But this song slapped you in the face and that was it! This song shot to number one and we loved it! I remember seeing him perform this on the tonight show when Johnny Carson was the host. Jonny was not aware of how big this song and artist was. Before he could finish his introduction. The entire audience were in their feet and ready. When Robert started to sing and the crowd was dancing and clapping.....well the look on Johnny Carson's face was shocked enthusiasm He was shocked at the response but happy he was there to see it. Robert was not your typical rock star. Wearing the suit and tie looking like that handsome business man he fooled you but God he was so talented and well spoken. He knew about all types of music and how to combine different genres. He died too young
All time classic.......You felt the addiction India when Mr.Tom Jones was telling you he`d "never fall in love again" ??????
Love the channel & right now,at this time......Hell,we all need to have something to make us smile.
So thank you India.....how about some Carolyn Wonderland, she`ll blow your socks off baby
One of the smoothest voices!
Every time I hear this song, I always think of the movie Cocktail... Great sound track for the whole movie.
I like the idea of reacting to oldschool classics. Thanks for bringing some joy to this dark times. Wishes from Mallorca 💝
He has an earlier song called "Every Kinda People." It's so beautiful.
You're in my top three "really enjoyable" reactors...definitely clickin every day. But, I still gotta say you should check out the "Daryl's House" series (half of Hall n Oates). He invites artists that perform every type of music to come and jam in his in-house studio. There's some REALLY tasty stuff you'd like (the collab with Chromeo, if I spelled it correctly, doin "I Can't Go For That" is outstanding...he does the same cut with Celo that's good too).
An ever present hit when I was in high school.
I love when he sings some like it hot with power station
My all time favorite song!,
I remember this from the MTV days (when they actually played music).
I remember being about 10yo and really impressed by the amount of bouncing,... err... you know. 😬
Heart attack at 54 years of age, died in 2003.
A good fellow too.
The song was originally written with the tile "Addicted To Drugs" and if you swap the word 'love' for 'drugs' , the whole thing makes total sense. (especially if you've been there)
No hidden meanings. Just a kick ass rocker
Robert Palmer the legend!
Great song and classic vid directed by Terence Donovan with Robert Palmer looking timeless. Also love Tony Thompson’s groove on this and with Power Station. The number of spoofs and homages to the vid shows how iconic it was and I only watched 1985 by Bowling for Soup a few days ago and the band as the models and Jaret as Robert Palmer is still hilarious.
You're right India, he originally wrote the song about drugs and the original written lyric was Addicted To It. He was advised to change It to Love and he did just that.
This is the second reaction video that I watched from you now, and I really loved it! Great song! The first one was your reaction to Sparks' "This Town Ain't Big Enough For Both Of Us". Obviously I'm a Sparks fan and so I was curious of course. Now I'll watch your reaction to "Simply Irresistible", 'cause this is also a great song.
Every Kinda People, Johnny and Mary, pure quality
When you walked in a packed bar on a Fri night with this playing on the big screen everyone was buzzing
Eddie Martinez and Bernard Edwards (Chic alumnus) played guitar and bass on this album. Bernard Edwards and Jason Corsaro were brought back from the Power Station album to be Producer and Engineer accordingly.
Just love your reactions! Thanks
He also did Soul ,Reggae & Jazz . Also The Power Station - 'Some like it hot' - 'Get it On' 'Harvest for the World' he was very versatile - just a note about TPS : from DuranDuran , John Taylor - Bass , Andy Taylor - Guitar & Tony Tompson - Drums - (SisterSledge - Chic - most of Nile Roger's acts ) - Peace & Stay Safe
It was number one here in Aussie land. We loved it then and we love it now.
Supremely talented man. Try some of his even older stuff like Sneaking Sally through the Alley.
I grew up rocking out to this music and i love seeing and enjoying your perspective and your point of view is soo cool i dig it and im a new subscriber to your channel cheers!! but yes 70s and 80s jams were deep and had the best song writers in my humble opinion. I am also a pop culture artist and rock out to the 80s genre when i create photo realistic movie art portraits. goodtimes!!!!
One of the 'band' was a secretary from the production company as one of the models failed to turn up.
Which one?
@@clemdane I am not sure. I only hope it is not one of those urban myths but I'm pretty sure it is true.
Probably the drummer, there is no close ups of her.
@@edwardlionheart2689 that is the one that I thought it may be.
India I love your reactions as always. Robert Palmer was an amazing musician from Britain. I love that Pink Floyd t-shirt how can I get one? Better yet, I would love the one that you're wearing right now. You are a beautiful lady. I am an older Male who happens to be white. Keep up the great reactions love
Gentleman Robert Palmer.
