@terry dowling a story from 30 years ago...Flea explained this story...he said that Chad was flirting with the lady and slaps the girl on the but then the same lady happened to be up in the front row at their concert and he tripped off the stage and fell on her so she thought she was being assaulted but they never assaulted the lady and they explained everything and had to pay a fine and that's why they only were arrested for the day and never served anytime.....btw who are are your favorite rock stars from the 60,70,80,90s ? I'm sure they all have some crazy stories when they were 20...Rhcp are in their 50s now....smh

When I was homeless I used to listen to this song all the time, when I tell my kids my stories they think I was some great traveling adventurer, but the truth is I was so lonely also, to live a life of a human being that nobody wants is a very awakening experience. I totally needed that part of my life when I was 18-21 saw a big chunk of the world and struggled through it. Now life is so easy and great compared.

Last year, I was at work -- I'm a chef -- and started singing a Chili Peppers song while cooking. The then-20-something working next to me honestly said, "Now what's an old guy like you doing listening to the Red Hot Chili Peppers?"
So I turned to this punk and asked him a question: "Do you know what the average age of the members of that band is?"
    He admitted he didn't.
When I told him that the average age of the Chili Peppers is 58 years, he couldn't comprehend it. They're all almost 60 years old. So am I. What the hell did he think I was doing listening to the Chili Peppers? I've been a fan of this band since the beginning.

@ chef Jack geeks out....that's because the music now is mostly crap...most of the auto tuned..non singing...no instrumental talent...no lyric writing..no originality...copying and sounding like everyone else on the radio...only in it for money and likes and not any real appreciation for real talent...now maybe I'm being a little harsh....mmmm no...when these young people actually listen to Good music..their minds are blown...well I've been listening to old..new rock and metal..and my mind is still blown

It was a poem that at the end of recording for this album they needed a ballad or another song and kiedis read the personal poem and "John started playing the riff and then Flea came in with the bassline" .... He said it in a interview...

The guys in my basic training/AIT company (I was OSUT, so they were together) would sing songs on the cattle cars heading to ranges and such, and this was hugely popular. The full story of this song is that Anthony (the lead singer) wrote it while he was homeless living underneath a bridge in L.A. while strung out on heroin. After RHCP got together and first got in the recording studio, the guy who was their producer said they had a lot of nice songs, but he told them there was nothing that really jumped out at him. When he was looking through some of Anthony's songbooks, he found this poem, and immediately knew it was gold, supposedly Anthony didn't want to do it initially, seeing as how the poem was about a low point in his life, but the producer convinced him...and the rest as they say, is history.
