    I just sent one to my mom in SC. Great video. I did the stiching and then turned it so stitches were on inside. Just a thought.
    Thank you, Stacey.

      That’s awesome! I always consider all the ways to make something. Then I pick the easiest with the best end result. I didn’t want it to be to bulky or have raw edges, which is why I did it this way. But everyone should always make things how they think is the best way, that’s the beauty of making things yourself 🤗

    Your improvement to have a narrower batting piece to avoid sewing bulky seams, is spot on. One other suggestion would be a quilted stitch in the middle so that when washed, the batting is less likely to bunch up. Your tutorial is the clearest instruction I've seen. Thank you!

    Love these tutorials. What settings do you use on your brother machine when you use your quarter inch foot as I am having difficulty getting mine correct?

    • @staceyleecreative
      @staceyleecreative  Рік тому

      Hi Margaret, so I find that the needle just needs to shift over to right just slightly. On my machine that is adjusting the zig zag. As I press the button I can see the needle moving over. It doesn’t stitch a zig zag because the stitch setting is a straight stitch. I hope that makes sense.

    My sewing machine struggled to sew the last two edges. It created a few really long stitches. Could that be due to using a short stitch length? What stitch length do you recommend? Thanks.

    • @staceyleecreative
      @staceyleecreative  Місяць тому

      What type of machine are you using? I would sew slowly, it has nothing to do with the stitch length. I sew at 2.5.

    Do I need to pre wash fabric?

  • @beadmomma4
    @beadmomma4 Рік тому +1

    So I made one of these and I made sure everything was 100% cotton, the thread, the fabric, and I used the wrap n zap. I put a potato in it to test it out and unfortunately it did start to catch fire in the microwave. Any idea why?

    • @staceyleecreative
      @staceyleecreative  Рік тому +1

      Oh no, what thread did you use? Any metallics on the fabric?

    • @beadmomma4
      @beadmomma4 Рік тому

      @staceyleecreative I used 100% cotton coats and clark machine quilting thread and no metallics. I did also put some fabric, just the fabric itself, in the microwave that is also supposed to be 100% cotton, just out of curiosity and it did the same thing. Weird.

      Never ever put an empty microwave item in the microwave it will catch fire.

  • @theREmissionary
    @theREmissionary 3 місяці тому

    I made one of these a few years ago, using all cotton -- including the thread and the batting. It caught on fire in the microwave. Thankfully I was standing right there so I caught it immediately; I discovered that one of the potatoes had caused a pleat in the bag, and that's where it caught on fire. I won't use anything in the microwave if I'm not standing right there with it.

      Wow, that must have been scary! 😳 Thanks for sharing your experience - it's an important safety reminder. Always supervising microwave use is definitely wise. Glad you were there to catch it quickly! Stay safe! 🔥👀

    Thanks for stressing the 100% cotton. I was given one that didn't have 100% cotton thred and it caught on fire.

      @staceyleecreative  Рік тому +1

      I am glad you agreed it was important, I was worried I said it too many times. That is terrible you had one catch of fire, that must have been scary! Let's hope I have helped saved others from that.

    I always hear that everything must be 100% cotton. However, I have been using socks as rice bags for many years that are not 100% cotton with no problem at all. I don't believe it's necessary to use all cotton.

    • @staceyleecreative
      @staceyleecreative  Рік тому +6

      Hi Heather, you should do what you are comfortable with. I wouldn't have been comfortable doing this video without stressing to use 100% cotton. If you scroll through the comments you will see someone commented that they did have one made with polyester thread and it did catch on fire in their microwave. I prefer to be safe than sorry 😊
