I first came across them at a quilt show and bought them at half off because it was end of the show. I thought they were such a brilliant idea! I’ve made some but it seemed tedious. This video seems to make a much easier process of it. I’m going to make some as a hostess gifts for the holidays. I’m so inspired!
Your tip for using the opposite corner of the cozy to use as a guide to quilt straight is something I’ve never seen before and it’s absolute genius! Thank you for this tutorial. My husband asks for these every year, and due to unforeseen circumstances, I wasn’t able to make them last year, so a couple of these will be a perfect small Yuletide gift for him!
❤❤❤❤❤ THANKS SO MUCH FOR SHOWING US HOW TO MAKE OUR OWN PATTERN PLUS A GREAT TIP FOR A STURDIER ONE!! I’ve made these as gifts and it’s true…people don’t know they need them until they get them. Then they love them and want more! Sometimes I made a set of three sizes for a gift. The one larger than the one you demonstrate can be used with a dinner plate and also a serving bowl. Here’s a tip for your subscribers: I look for 100% quality cotton shirts at thrift shops. They make great bowl cozies, especially for men. 😊
This is one of the best bowl cozy tutorials I’ve ever seen. Thank you so much for your clear, simplified instructions. …now I’ve gotta go make some cozies!!
Having Just struggled through making 12 bowl cozies Without watching your video I am very very happy to see this method it is far better than the 1 I was using my baby lock machine is in the fix it shop because I broke 2 needles because I did not trim away that batting and the darts ! God love you for making such an awesome video can't wait to make some more. Thank you from Bethlehem Georgia
Just finished mine to gift to my dad who has been borrowing mine when he gets the chance for years 😂 thank you!! This was very easy to follow and turned out great! 🥰🦋✨
I buy these EVERY time I see them at craft fairs and now I can make them for gifts for friends and family. Thank you! Very simple and precise directions too.
My girlfriend bought some of these from a craft fair and I thought they were fabulous used them the whole time we were at her house! You're such a great teacher! Watching from Eugene OR ❤
Watching from Alabama in the southern US. I've made these before but I do not remember them being as easy to make as your method. I will certainly use your way the next time I make them.
@lkhicks6866 not as much as I'd like to. I lost my "sew joe" for some reason for like 6 months or more and I'm starting to get the itch to start back up again. I like to sew useful things for around the house and bags, such as zippered cosmetic type bags and tote bags, boxy bags etc. Only been sewing for a few years now. Self taught, you tube all the way. Always learning more. How about you?
I've been searching around and have seen various "methods" to make these. I'm curious to know what "complaints" you are referring to. Do you mean sewing difficulties or finished product issues? I plan to make some for Christmas and it looks like this will be the method I use.
@thetangledstring9426 Just watched the video again. At the end of the video, she points out the construction techniques that give a better finished product. Ie the opening, the quilting, the seams. And in the beginning of the video she addresses the fire hazzard problem.
I have made many of these using the instructions in your previous videos. I really wish I had seen this one a couple of weeks ago. I recently made some new ones for my grandson. Apparently, the ones that went to college with him disappeared. Now that he has graduated and is living on his own, it gave me a good excuse to dig into the scraps! I am writing from Lebanon, Indiana. Thanks for the updated version!
How did you know I was needing to replace my old, worn out bowl cozie? LOL. I love your method much better than the one I used. I will definitely be making these as gifts too! Thank you!
I really love your method of sewing the diagonal lines at the end, sewing both sides together, and using the opposite corner of the cozy as a stitching guide! Brilliant!!
I will definitely be trying this! My husband always grabs one of my nice potholders to put under his bowl after he microwaves food. I've been considering making him a bowl cozy (or two) for Christmas. Now I know how. Thanks!
Thank you, Angela! This design and way of bringing it all together will be so much easier to sew than the ones I made a few years ago! I'll be sewing up a bunch of these for Christmas gifts. 😊
A newbie here! Thank you for this awesome tutorial! I appreciate the explicit directions and close up video! I look forward to viewing more of your videos! NJ here!
Brilliant tips! I made a few dozens of these about 6 years ago and it’s time to make more. Your tips solve so many of the issues I had with my previous bowl cozies. Thank you for all you do!
Thanks for this great tutorial so clear. I’m retired renal dialysis nurse from New Jersey and now living in tropical Puerto Rico. I love sewing, embroidery, canning , baking, gardening , and growing my Roses. And of course my baby Pomeranian Cooper.

Watching from S. Michigan, USA. I will definitely be using this video for making these. They look so neat and crisp. The directions were the most clearly explained video I have seen.
I’ve been making these for many years! I had to figure all this out over time! This is the best video I’ve ever seen for this craft we have had since the 70’s! Great and clear tips!
I have made quite a few of these before, but your tutorial provides great instructions to sew them so much more easily! I'm putting these back on my list of sewing projects! Watching from North Carolina
Watching from Central Texas. I made bowl cozies a few years ago, and they were soooo bulky and wonky; I LOVE your straightforward, clean method- cannot wait to use your method, so much better! Thank you for the video/tutorial!
I have watched 20vor more videos for making bowl cozies. I have even made some. This is the best video i have seen so far! Can't wait to try your method!! Thank you!
I've been making bowl cozies for years and selling them at a local gift shop here in Connecticut, USA. Thanks for this video; I've learned some great tips!
This video was a really good instructional method, better than many I watched. I liked how you sewed the diagonal lines after you put it together. Thanks
I’m watching from North Carolina and I will try this pattern. I think they are so cute. I eat oatmeal in the morning and sometimes I like to sit down and watch the news and this will work perfect.
Great tutorial. You have several hints I haven’t seen before. Such starting the sewing of the dart in the batting & making the batting a bit smaller. Also how you per sew the turning spot. Very helpful, thank you
Watching from East Tennessee USA. Love your method and all your tips. I recently made 75 of these as a fundraiser for the local Animal Shelter. They all sold. Unfortunately I did not see this video until I had done them all. Getting ready to make more and will definitely use your technique. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for this video. I will definitely give this a try. I tried the original bowl cozy from years ago that was done by everyone and did not like the way mine were coming out so I gave up after 2 of them. I think this one will definitely be doable and successful.
You are a very good instructor. You are easy to understand, your grammar is excellent and your voice is very soothing. You give so many great tips and reasoning behind them. Keep it up. I will watch everything you post. I have liked and subscribed. Looking forward to many more of your videos. Thank you so much!
Thank you for this video - I've sewn hundreds of cozies and found it so tedious to mark the diagonal lines & darts. Your template with the v-shape cut out for the darts and new techniques will allow me to sew these cozies more efficiently! Thanks & hugs from San Francisco!
I love your tutorial! You gave some great tips to help me make my cozy with better construction and help male them look more professional. Your an amazing teacher. Thank you so much for the tips! ❤
Having made these from written instructions, I appreciate your precise instructions… and learned some things 🙌. Many thanks, from Arizona 🌵 Appreciate you sharing your time and talents ❤
What a super tutorial!! Really like the tips of the stitching at the turn opening and will definitely use it on the next ones I make! Also the tip of using the corner point as a straight stitch guide!! Your videos are in best practice category- all you do is easy to see with clear view and instructions! Been a subscriber for awhile now!! Many thanks from southeast Texas!❤
wow..I have seven bowl cozies before but never your method! Well now I will. Thank you so much. You’re a great teacher. Kindest regards from Catherine and 🐈in Canada
Hi watching from Australia. Thank you for a great tutorial. I have tried other patterns and was never completely happy with the outcome. The best tips for me were how to trim the batting (it seems common sense now but not having worked with it before I followed the other patterns exactly and none mentioned this. They were not video tutorials though) and using the opposite corner as a guide for quilting.
The tutorial I didn't know I needed! Appreciate your using of cm, makes it easy for the lot of us that don't use inches. Two thumbs up from South Africa!
Thank you for this great tutorial! I have made many bowl cozies from other videos and always found them to be fiddly and time consuming. Your video has shaved many steps: - love the template -- saves the constant measuring repetitively; - cutting the batting smaller than the fabric saves trimming; - 1/2 inch seams around the outside instead of 1/4 inch makes the sewing more forgiving; - sewing between the notches makes turning and sewing that opening closed so much easier; - starting the darts at the batting instead of the edge of the fabric saves clipping the seams later on. Loved the way you showed how to trim the darts too. - I never thought of running the machine for 1/2 inch at the bottom of the dart, so easy!; - doing the quilting at the end instead of at the beginning cuts out much of the stitching, and using the opposite corner to guide the diagonal lines is genius. You can probably tell from my comments that I am fairly new to quilting so I appreciated all of your tricks and tips. One thing I did differently from you is I used my walking foot for the entire time because my machine would not let me do the edge stitching with all that bulk without looking very uneven and terrible. I was able to do the edging by moving my needle to the far right so that the left side of the walking foot held down the fabric while the right side of the foot just barely held the edge of the cozie down. It was okay and I did get better at it. Thanks again from Victoria, BC, Canada. I have liked and subscribed.
Watching from Connecticut, only a light dusting of the white fluffy stuff here on Christmas morning. Love the fact that you are teaching us how to make a template. Great teacher, thank you and Merry Christmas.
The other cosine I watched had rounded corners but I like this better as it gives you something to hold onto better. Great explanation! Watching from Texas
I made a dozen cozies not long ago for family members using someone else's instructions. Wish I had seen yours first!! Yours cut out many unnecessary steps or gives ways to do them a more efficient way. You are now my go-to bowl cozy maker. Thanks for all the extra little tips throughout the video that make it even easier. I'll be looking for your other videos as well.
You’re very welcome! I’m glad you found the tips helpful. I hope you try it soon. Let me know what you think. I find it a way nicer finish when quilting together as the last step. 😊
I have made a number of bowl cozies, and I still learned something new watching how you make them. The way you remove rhe batting from the darts is genius!, also, not sewing the darts completely shut, genius! I will be making bowl cozies your way from now on, I have a feeling they will look better from now on. Thank You for sharing your time, and your talent with all of us.
I’ve been making these for years as gifts. I use cotton flannel in place of the Wrap n Zap. It’s thinner, but I feel very little heat after using in the microwave. I love your channel!
I just made several of these as gifts and it was DIFFICULT because of the bulk. I really struggled - beginner sewer here. I wish I had seen your video earlier - but maybe I wouldn’t have appreciated the tips without the comparison. Thank you for this!
Watching from Utah, I’ve made similar but slightly different steps but end result similar. This has sooooo many great ideas and your finished product is amazingly professional looking. I will be digging my supplies out and trying your methods and soon. Thank you!!!
Watching from Oregon. I’ve made a lot of these, but I want to make some small ones for a set of soup bowls, and just needed a refresher about how I could make the smaller pattern for my new project. I Lao want to round the corners this time. Wish me luck!! Thanks for this wonderful tutorial!!

I was able to do the edging by moving my needle to the far right so that the left side of the walking foot held down the fabric while the right side of the foot just barely held the edge of the cozie down. It was okay and I did get better at it.
Thanks again from Victoria, BC, Canada. I have liked and subscribed.
Yes these are exactly the things I disliked about making cozies when I first discovered them. Glad you like this method. Thanks from Australia!😊
What an easy, great pattern! Love the plastic cutting board template.
Thank you. I hope you give it a try😊
Watching from Connecticut, only a light dusting of the white fluffy stuff here on Christmas morning. Love the fact that you are teaching us how to make a template. Great teacher, thank you and Merry Christmas.
Thanks from Australia😊all the best for the new year!
Watching in Germany because I wanted to do this for our ramen bowls for so long - thanks a lot for the video!
Hallo aus Australien! Danke fürs Zuschauen.
The other cosine I watched had rounded corners but I like this better as it gives you something to hold onto better. Great explanation! Watching from Texas

😊watching from Montana..this is the best video on how to make this bowl. Why? You explain very clearly. Thank you GOD Bless
Thank you very much!
You're welcome! Let me know what you think once you’ve made it 😊
Love your tip for using the opposite side to follow, brilliant! Thx for your videos!
I'm glad you found it helpful! 😊
I’ve been making these for years as gifts. I use cotton flannel in place of the Wrap n Zap. It’s thinner, but I feel very little heat after using in the microwave. I love your channel!

Hi from Australia! Thank you so much😊
I just made several of these as gifts and it was DIFFICULT because of the bulk. I really struggled - beginner sewer here. I wish I had seen your video earlier - but maybe I wouldn’t have appreciated the tips without the comparison. Thank you for this!
Please give this a try and let me know how you go😊
Will be using your method. Thank you for making it easy to follow.
You are so welcome!
