Lovely simple to follow pattern. I promised to make my sister a couple of these after her Etsy purchased ones, that promised 100 percent cotton, burnt in the microwave! My only change will be to add an extra 1/2 inch to the long side measurement and sew 1/4 inch all away around leaving a five inch opening. Trim corners, turn right side out, iron, and then top stitch all around. This will eliminate that raw edge on the long side as I don’t have a serger, and wanted an alternative to zig zag. However, your pattern’s perfectly fine as is. I’m just tweaking it for me. I can’t wait to get started!
This is exactly what I've been looking for, thank you. Last year my gift to family & friends was the Bowl Cozy. This year I have an array of items - Tea Bag Wallets, Pyramid Pouches, Quilted Beverage Coasters, and now - The Potato Pouch! Further, I love your gentle way of presentation. You do not feel the need to talk constantly, and I appreciate that very much. Stay Safe.
Thank you soo much for this tutorial. This was my very first sewing project and I was replacing my husband's gift from his Aunt Eleanor 20+ years ago. I appreciate your clear, concise, easy-to -follow instructions.
Cindy, I happened upon this video and it was perfect timing. Our guild is having a quilt show and a country store. This is the perfect item for the store. As of now, 2 completed and 12 more part way there. Hopefully, tomorrow afternoon they will all be finished. Thank you for this really cool process. I had made one a few years ago, but your process is so simple! I love it. :)
I have been looking for a good potato pouch tutorial so this is exactly what I needed!! Thank you!! Would you possibly be able to make a printable of the cooking directions we can print out?
Sorry about your mother. I must leave a comment though You failed to say in your video not to use batting with scrim or polyester. Also thread must be a pure cotton not a coated cotton thread. I made several about 6 to 7 years ago when they were popular and found out from friends that some started fires. There is a special batting made for potato bags
Curious as to if anyone has made the microwave bowls. All the videos I have watched, they have used two pieces of batting. Since only one piece of batting is used for this potato bag, why couldn’t the microwave bowls be made with one piece? Anyone have any thoughts on this? Thanks for your help.
I made three of these tonight. I used two layers of cotton and the wrap and zap and mine is not flat.. it's bulky?? I don't know what I did wrong. My machine struggled with the thickness.
All cotton. Love the video. The only thing I would have added is to be sure the bag is clean. Any food particles left could start to burn the bag. Works great for tortillas and rolls too.
Be careful even if it says 100 percent bottom batting read description might have scrim In it which is polyester, I made these and found out our Cotten batting for quilts said 100& and it’s not c so read description. Use wrap n zap only
yes, they sneak polyester into some batting sometimes, wrap-n-zap is the way to go. Also, some Christmas and other fabrics have a metallic design running through them that you need to watch for, they look pretty, but can cause a spark. Cotton thread should also be used when putting this together.
I have made several used 100% cotton materials including thread and batting All have caught on fire what am I doing wrong Even tried 2 min in microwave at a time
Some batting is 100% cotton but not microwaveable. I learned the hard way to buy Pellon Wrap-N-Zap batting which will state on package that it is microwaveable. Hope this helps since I noticed no one else has replied to you.
I use fusable polyester fleece and it works great...people dont realize that cotton catches fire...polyester does not. I've been making these and bowl cozies all with the fusable fleece with success...no fire here.

Great, simple tutorial!

Thank you 😊 I’m making one now.
I made a cardboard template for now to cut the fabric and batting
Thank you this looks so fun!
You look so much like Martha McCallum!
Thank you for NOT doing another mask video... I feel like I'm bombarded with those lately... good to have a change. :)
Takes great restraint to NOT push the like button 9 bazillion times!!!
I would love the printable of the cooking directions to give away with the bag im making for my daughter
Thank-you for this great video!!! Love it!!!

Yes I would love the instructions also.
Sorry about your mother. I must leave a comment though

Thank you, enjoy video and making the Potato Pouch!
I made some of these and I use them quite often. I made a bigger one to heat up rolls.
Is there a way to get the cute instructions on how to use them?
Also can we sale them to those we know who would like to use them?
So sorry for the loss of your Mother 😢
You make this look so easy! This would make a great gift! How can we print the card to insert? thank you for sharing 🙂
I have 2 that I bought from a lady and I love them.
Love these thank you
You need to mention Cover the potato in paper towels. Also To absolutely use cotton thread
Is your serger thread also 100 percent cotton? I am having trouble finding anything but 100 percent spun polyester.
Awesome! Gracias.
how do I print out the instructions for baking shown here?? ty
It's new for me. I have a vegan daughter who loves it. I didn't understand what kind of fabric did you used. Tanks 😊🙏
Am working on making these potato pouches. Would love to use my serger - do you use 100% cotton thread in the serger? Thanks.
Do I have to use 100% cotton thread?
Curious as to if anyone has made the microwave bowls. All the videos I have watched, they have used two pieces of batting. Since only one piece of batting is used for this potato bag, why couldn’t the microwave bowls be made with one piece? Anyone have any thoughts on this? Thanks for your help.
Thank you for sharing :)
Thank you- Great gift project. BJ
Works great for sweet potatoes also. I wrap in a dampened paper towel.
Need to use 100% cotton fabric and 100% cotton thread and 100% cotton batting to place in microwave.
Does your serger have to have 100% cotton thread?
What is the purpose of the wood block while ironing
Do you sell the baked potato bags i would like to of them please
I made three of these tonight. I used two layers of cotton and the wrap and zap and mine is not flat.. it's bulky?? I don't know what I did wrong. My machine struggled with the thickness.
where can we print those instructions from?
what is the wooden block ? what does it do??
Hi Donna, it is the RBD Quilter's Clapper. You can find out more about it here: ua-cam.com/video/Ol3s4wyPFf0/v-deo.html
I just made one of these and it burnt the bag. I didn't use batting I use 100% cotton flannel and 100% cotton outside? Why did it do that?
I AM SO SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS
Should the thread also be 100% cotton or is polyester ok?
Thread, fabric and batting needs to be 100% cotton.
All cotton. Love the video. The only thing I would have added is to be sure the bag is clean. Any food particles left could start to burn the bag. Works great for tortillas and rolls too.
What is that neat piece of wood you used for pressing? How would I get one?
It's a Tailor's clapper, I got mine on Amazon
What is it used for?
It won't catch fire?
Donna Richey yes they will! I had two smoking in the microwave. So be mindful of your choices.
It looks beautiful. You put 3 fabrics. 2 are cotton. And the other? Thanks 🙂
The other is all cotton batting No Scrum. Do not use batting with scrum it will burn.
Be careful even if it says 100 percent bottom batting read description might have scrim
In it which is polyester, I made these and found out our Cotten batting for quilts said 100& and it’s not c so read description. Use wrap n zap only

Not all 100% cotton batting has 100% cotton shim. I use Warm 100.
What kind of batting did you use. Must be all cotton with no scrim. I use wrap n Zap which is made especially for the microwave.
I use fusable polyester fleece and it works great...people dont realize that cotton catches fire...polyester does not. I've been making these and bowl cozies all with the fusable fleece with success...no fire here.
Any particular cotton batting? Or just make sure 100% cotton?
Surgery use poly cotton thread, the thread will cause issues in the microwave, even spark!
Serger thread is polyester. Has anyone had a problem with it in the microwave??
MY MOM MADE THESE
