  • Relief wood carving showing a big whitetail buck and corn stalk up close! Traditional chisels and gouges were the primary tools used. A dremel was used for the final details. If you enjoyed the video make sure you like, subscribe, and share it! It really helps me out!
I really enjoyed this carving. It allowed me to focus more on the details of individual aspects of the carving instead of focusing on the scene in general. I'm happy with the way it turned out, but I still can make improvements for future projects!

Superb carving, you are lucky that you have a good supply of Basswood of that size, as it costs such a lot over here in England, we have Lime and Linden which I believe are related but I generally tend to use Pine but not such fine detail, good job though, Regards.

Thanks John! I actually had to glue several pieces of basswood together to make it that size. It works pretty well, but you can usually see each individual piece of wood because each piece is slightly a different color. That's why I carved the background and border texture the way I did so it would hide that a bit.

Thanks for replying, I had not considered glueing to increase the size of the workpiece, it does not show on the laptops screen unless you look very carefully, but I see how you can disguise the joins in thie texturing you applied, good tip. Regards from John in England.

This carving is carved out of basswood. Lately I've been getting wood from a local sawmill. I use to get my basswood online at Rockler.com. I'd have to glue pieces together though to get the size I was looking for.
