SUNFLOWER WOODCARVING - Relief Wood Carving A Sunflower With Depth and Unique but Simple Textures
Вставка
- Опубліковано 10 гру 2021
- Relief wood carving a simple sunflower! I used traditional chisels/gouges and a Dremel for the details. This sunflower woodcarving was hand carved out of white pine wood and took me around 15 hours to complete. I carved in some unique, but simple textures and depth that really allowed the relief carving to come alive. I hope you all enjoy this carved sunflower time lapse video!

Wonderful عالی

Awesome carving! I've been following you for a long time and all of your carvings and videos are excellent. I'm a hobby carver and always looking to learn more so I really appreciate your sharing your work. Could you please tell me where you source your white pine? I mostly carve in craft store Basswood and repurposed Black walnut and Cherry, when someone gives me some. 😊Thank you ,so much!
Thank you I appreciate the support and I'm happy to hear my videos help! I get my wood from a local sawmill and I prep it for carving myself. I'm thinking about posting wood blanks on my Etsy page for those that are interested. So if you are one of those please voice your interest! If enough people share that they'd like carving blanks then I'll definitely plan on going forward with it in the near future.
Very nice carving! Did you use a pre stain finish prior to staining?
Thanks! In a way I did. I applied a coat of natural clear stain first. It's not technically a pre-stain, but it pretty much did the same thing.
Another amazing video, what kind of detail sander is that your using on the flower pedals ??
Thanks! It's called the MicroLux Sander. I got it off of Amazon but it's currently unavailable. You can currently get it off their website at www.micromark.com
Nice job! where did you get the big pine boards that you use for most of your relief carving?
Thanks! I get the wood from a local sawmill and I prep it myself.
Very nicely done:) Can i ask what kind of sanding bit or tool is that please? Looks like is oscilating I didnt seen that one yet :O
Thanks! It’s a micro sander. You can find them on Amazon.
Excellent work Sir! May I know the wood quality that is being worked on & the chisel and gauge make being used.
Thanks! The wood is white pine and I use pfeil gouges
GIOCHI PERICOLOSI !! SONO BISTURI!!su che tipo di legno stai lavorando ??
White pine
Great work! Also I appreciate your explanations. Could you please tell or share a link to what exactly dremel bits you are using at 5:16 ? Are those diamond ones?
Thanks! Yes, I am using diamond burr bits at that time frame. You can find them fairly cheap on amazon.
I love your channel so much you are very talented.. Where do you get your wood to carve with? I can’t seem to find any good wood where I live?
Could you maybe do a video on where to get your wood, or how to prepare wood to carve on?
Thank you for any help
Craig
Thank you I'm glad you enjoy the channel! I get my wood from a local sawmill and I prep it myself. I actually sell the wood I use on my Etsy page so feel free to check it out. It's all prepped and ready to carve out of the package.
I tried the link to your Etsy store and it takes me to a page that says your store can not be found… I am using my phone maybe I should try the computer?
Craig
This work is beatiful! Do you sell your works (and this one in particular)? I tried to open the etsy link, but it doesn't work.
Thanks! Yes I do sell them on Etsy but this one is not available.
Can you please tell me where to get a chisel set like that? I’ve had no such luck in any sort of decent carving tools. Also.. holy wow!! I absolutely love this piece. You are quite a talented artist
Thanks! pfeil has been a great brand and they come razor sharp. You can get them on Amazon and woodcraft.com. Schaaf is also a great brand if your just starting to carve. I would buy there premium sets though because those come pre sharpened.
@@ChiseledOutdoorsCC thank you so much!
What small black sander did you use and where did you get it?
It’s a smaller micro sander on micromark.com www.micromark.com/Micro-Make-MicroLux-Powered-Sander-Filer
It looks like the design has changed slightly since I bought mine.
What do you recommend for a good set of chisels/gouges?
Well from personal experience, pfeil gouges are great. They come razor sharp and ready to carve. I’ve carved with schaaf as well which are great gouges if your starting out. I’d recommend buying the schaaf premium gouge sets though because those are sharpened and carve ready. Only downside with schaaf is you can only buy sets. If you need a particular gouge to get the job done you’ll have to buy a set to get it and their selection is limited. I’ve heard two cherries is good too but I’ve never carved with them.
Hello! What stains are you using, please
I use a mixture of mineral spirits and minwax English chestnut stain
Could you please provide details of your sanding machine?
It's a Micro Mark Sander. You can find it on micromark.com
Do you sell your wood carvings?
Yes I do they are available on my Etsy page.
Thanks for your prompt response
New subscriber. Thank you. I really enjoyed your techniques for making the sunflower look realistic.
Thanks! I’m glad you enjoyed the video.
