SUNFLOWER WOODCARVING - Relief Wood Carving A Sunflower With Depth and Unique but Simple Textures

  • Relief wood carving a simple sunflower! I used traditional chisels/gouges and a Dremel for the details. This sunflower woodcarving was hand carved out of white pine wood and took me around 15 hours to complete. I carved in some unique, but simple textures and depth that really allowed the relief carving to come alive. I hope you all enjoy this carved sunflower time lapse video!

    Awesome carving! I've been following you for a long time and all of your carvings and videos are excellent. I'm a hobby carver and always looking to learn more so I really appreciate your sharing your work. Could you please tell me where you source your white pine? I mostly carve in craft store Basswood and repurposed Black walnut and Cherry, when someone gives me some. 😊Thank you ,so much!

      Thank you I appreciate the support and I'm happy to hear my videos help! I get my wood from a local sawmill and I prep it for carving myself. I'm thinking about posting wood blanks on my Etsy page for those that are interested. So if you are one of those please voice your interest! If enough people share that they'd like carving blanks then I'll definitely plan on going forward with it in the near future.

    Very nice carving! Did you use a pre stain finish prior to staining?

    • @ChiseledOutdoorsCC
      @ChiseledOutdoorsCC  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks! In a way I did. I applied a coat of natural clear stain first. It's not technically a pre-stain, but it pretty much did the same thing.

      Thanks! pfeil has been a great brand and they come razor sharp. You can get them on Amazon and woodcraft.com. Schaaf is also a great brand if your just starting to carve. I would buy there premium sets though because those come pre sharpened.

      It’s a smaller micro sander on micromark.com www.micromark.com/Micro-Make-MicroLux-Powered-Sander-Filer
      It looks like the design has changed slightly since I bought mine.

    What do you recommend for a good set of chisels/gouges?

    • @ChiseledOutdoorsCC
      @ChiseledOutdoorsCC  2 роки тому

      Well from personal experience, pfeil gouges are great. They come razor sharp and ready to carve. I’ve carved with schaaf as well which are great gouges if your starting out. I’d recommend buying the schaaf premium gouge sets though because those are sharpened and carve ready. Only downside with schaaf is you can only buy sets. If you need a particular gouge to get the job done you’ll have to buy a set to get it and their selection is limited. I’ve heard two cherries is good too but I’ve never carved with them.
