First I’ll just say I’ve been sim racing for over 10yrs and have owned and tried many products from many companies and I’m going to do something no one else will seem to do. Two things for people to understand about UA-camrs videos on the T818. The 10NM torque is CONSTANT which is rarely ever said and it peaks around (13-14). It’s incredible to see most youtubers never change the out of the box settings.. Thrustmasters recommended settings on their site for all games & platforms is surprisingly SOLID but if you don’t know that then your simply using the out of the box default settings. People bash Thrustmaster for using plastic but don’t understand it’s highly durable & incredibly LIGHT. Weight of sim products vastly affects detail of feel & performance. Most people believe the price point for the T818 is high, anyone who believes that simply doesn’t understand this specific product or they don’t understand products in general. I’m fortunate to have super high end equipment at this point but I feel the T818 completely gets a bad wrap and is absolutely one of the best wheel bases on the market. Most people will never know because their scared off and shamed by fake elitist who can’t shut up about Moza & Fanetec.
I have to agree with you. I found this review fustratingly lacking. "I wish the LED on the base could show REV's" Check the manual and you would see it can! Just hold down the Thustmaster button on the base and tap the left arrow button once each to cycle through the 3 telemetory options for the LED. Did you guys even unlock the 100% strengh or set it to performance or even Extreme to test those? Flex in the QR is also pointed out as a bad point by most youtubers, to be honest if your flexing the wheel while racing like some youtubers do then there is something fundementaly wrong with your driving technique. I have owned the T818 for about 5-6 months and it has never let me down.
same thing can also be said about the g pro although i would say its an even better wheel base with 11 nm sustained and the ne g hub update states its in preparation for new peripherals. but yes the difference between sustained and peak torque is an important distinction
Just some advise, take it or leave it but you may want to try sitting closer to the steering wheel it looks like you are reaching too far for it and that will cause loss of precision and arm fatigue.
Make sure you've set it to performance mode, and ensure that you're not in the default mode out of the box, it does make a difference, otherwise you may have to make a new vid lol.
Ordered mine from TM at 6pm on Christmas day, had it at the house 10am on Dec27th. Have had 0 problems.. the one thing I have done is use the older style attachement on my 488gt3 rim so the distance from the base matched up with my other rims... If your already in the TM ecosystem I think it is a no brainer..
it's a shame they still haven't made this compatible with PS5 or made a new DD for PS5. I got LCM with T300 and when I think of DD price I always include load cell pedal price. This base would be cheaper simply because I have the pedals already so for me and others like me it would be a no brainer.
@@hYpYz Im on the same boat i was thinking too to switch to the dd pro but im gonna stay with thrustmaster and hope they finally anounce something for console. Love the Tlcms with Mods to much.
@@Christaz9 I can't say for certain as I haven't tried it personally with that wheel but it works great with my Simagic gear. I have also used it with TGT to get it to work on Xbox and it felt the same as a native Xbox wheelbase.
I had a T300RS with T-LCM pedals, but wanted to move to DD. Got one of the first T818's which developed a fault after 4 months. DD motor was replaced under warranty. Been perfect ever since. Thrustmaster RMA service was brilliant.
I bought this because I already owned 3 TM rims and I've had nothing but good experiences with TM gear. So when I saw good deal on a SF1000 bundle I went for it. In the 6 months I've been using this the I have very little to complain about. There are many reviews pointing out the flex in the QR and if you look for if then you can notice it. But I never felt it got in the way, even when I turned the FFB up beyond what I feel is a comfortable level. I have noticed some connection issues when I hooked the base up through an USB hub. But since I've plugged it directly into my PC it has been solid.
I won one of these but haven't got to use it because there is no PlayStation specially GT7 support... I'm not switching bases back and forth to play different games. I even mistakenly bought a Brook Ras1ution 2 with all their Thrustmaster support but that doesn't work either and both companies tech support said there was no compatibly in sight :(
I’m on console and went with Logitech’s DD wheel lmao. Never going to Fanatec with their egregious prices and forced shitty bundling. Not to mention they regularly mis-quantify how many items they sent so there’s hella stories of Canadian Customs claiming that you need to pay duty and taxes for the things you bought for some crazy amount. I tried the 488 wheel rim courtesy of Amazon. It's far better than the Fanatec McClaren rim. If the T818 had console compatibility I would buy one. I am currently running the Logy G Pro and T-LCM pedals courtesy of the Drivehub. You just plug the wheel into the controller port on the DH and the pedals in the accessory port. My G Pro is the PC PS5 version. It is rumored TM is working on a console compatible direct drive wheel. We will see
I'm looking at a moza R3. I don't have the space for a full time cockpit so I'm using a playseat challenge and that t818 would tear my playseat challenge apart. I'm currently using a Thrustmaster T300 so I won't be missing any extra torque but I will get the direct drive ness.
One reason I went for the T818 is I always think that TM have default settings on point I used to have a Osw small mige with SRC adapters for my Thrustmaster rims (came from a TGT) but got fed up having to go into game folders and changing settings etc and I tried a DD1 and wasn’t impressed so went for the T818 happy so far 👍 note don’t over tighten quick release adapters on older wheels and you’ll be good.
I had the same setup. I was planning on swapping to SIMAGIC; however, my wife surprised me and got me the Ferrari SF1000/T818 bundle. I was telling myself I was stilling going to swap. After getting it set up on my NLR Elite 160 Scuderia Ferrari rig, I've got to say, I've had a change of heart. It's actually quite good. I've got it at 100% Gain and in Performance mode in the TM app, then I customize the FFB in whatever sim I'm in. I'll say for AMS2, AC, ACC, RF2, RR, and LMU, it works well. As much as I wanted SIMAGIC's FX Pro wheel for the 4 thumb encoders, this has won me over.
Probably licensing. Apparently that's all it is and Sony are either charging way too much for it to be worth it for the console sim market. Or they're only allowing Fanatec and Logitech to be the two suppliers
Also you compared it to the Fanatec DD. The DD is 8nm peak torque and the T818 is 10nm constant. The T818 peak torque is supposedly closer to 15nm peak. Considering both of my comments, surely the T818 comes out even better in your review. Consider the T818 Ferrari edition with the SF1000 wheel as I have. For the money I think it's in it's own league. You have to spend far more to get to the next step, and it won't make you any faster. Each to their own, but don't sleep on the T818, it's got bang for your buck.
This is wrong. The T818 is just 10.5 Nm Peak (measured by a German UA-camr and also by Fanatec itself) with 10 Nm Constant. So right between CSL DD with BK180 and CS DD. So no competitor for the CS DD or even the CS DD+, let alone the P DDs. The T818 is a completely different League well below the higher end Fanatec Bases.
@momorious So we should believe Fanatec to be honest about their competitors product!? Lol 10.5nm peak and 10nm constant doesn't even make sense my friend if you understand electric motors. Feel free to believe what you like but those that have tried Fanatec, Moza and even Simagic say the T818 is a great wheel at it's price point, especially if you're already in the eco system, and say it feel like 15nm wheelbase at peak. As I said, the T818 is in it's own lane, it's not as premium as the likes of Fanatec but then again the products are far more affordable for the average sim racer. You can go ahead and have 4k worth of equipment, and then a guy whoops you on a G29 lol, I think it makes more sense to invest relative to your talent. For me the T818 is a great happy medium, as any more money won't make you faster and the T818 gives great feel and enough power for most people. The T818 is in a different league to the CSL DD 8nm and in the ball park of the Moza R12, Cammus C12 and Clubsport DD etc, apart from the overall price and quality of the base and wheels. As I said each to their own but check as many reviews as you like and the T818 is rated, the only thing people tend not to like is that it's not metal nor endlessly adjustable (software), or console compatible. At it's price point there probably isn't a better wheel + eco system to invest into in my opinion, especially when you match it with the TLCM's and wheel options..
Have you got wheel oscilations on straights in iRacing? I have problem with this no matter what wheel settings I use. Hands off wheel and it goes wild..
Same here...I got so tired of waiting that I took a circular saw and sliced off the middle 10 inches or so on top and then used a combination of neoprene pads to wrap around the wheel to make the grips thicker and then wrapped it all around with racket tape..... works great
