    Isn't the Porsche hitting the Turquoise Porsche braking and trying to avoid the crash instead of still pinning their throttle down and going for it though?

    • @Spiretail
      @Spiretail 26 днів тому +442

      Yeah I agree with this, I don't think that was an intentional collision, the PoV car dives to the inside to try to avoid it as they don't think braking hard will be enough in the split second decision they have to figure this out, and it turns out neither was enough to avoid the collision. Turquoise was just being an utter pillock.

      Speed dropped by about 70 mph, you can see it in the dash, that looks like he was braking pretty hard if you ask me, as much as you would while turning to avoid a lock up, so yeah I think his error was he assumed normal behavior from the turquoise Porsche until it was too late. He expected room on the left.

    • @MistyTheWooshyBarge

      @@retardno002 I also think it was a delayed reaction since you would never expect a car to swerve on that straight specifically, personally i stay quite tight going into T1 out of pit since you are not up to the pace where you need to aggressively pull your line out to make the corner.

      I got the same feeling. Seeing someone turning that hard out of the pits. I would assume they would go all the way to the left to make the first corner. So I would have also tried to pass on the inside seeing that. But the Turquise car ended up not going all the way to the left. Which caused them to crash. I think the Turquise car was blaming the other guy cause the Turquise car was going to give him room but the other dude got confused about what the Turquise car was doing.

    • @treschlet
      @treschlet 26 днів тому +8

      Yeah, same... I think this was actually accident avoidance. Like, if you are driving toward a wreck, you always want to drive toward where the car /was/, anticipating that since they're moving, they'll have hopefully moved out of the way by the time you get there. But the turquoise car just kinda freaked out and stopped his move, hanging in the middle of the road

    8:28 He took off 30MPH, and swerved to avoid his expected trajectory - I don't see that as, "Just drive into the back of him", I see it as, "Don't put yourself in the trajectory he's following". If there's going to be an accident, aim behind/to the rear/inside of where they're going so you can hopefully avoid. He's trying to do that. The Turquoise car was enough of a pillock that this still resulted in a crash, but he was clearly trying to avoid by 1) braking, and 2) steering to where he was, not where he is going to be. Sorry, @Jimmy Broadbent, but you got that one wrong.

It clearly looks like the camera car is just reacting to, “Holy shit, this helmet is just going to keep drifting up into my lane, I need to take evasive action!” and just happened to clip the turquoise while trying to swerve away.
    1000000% on the turquoise.

    I don't know but at 15:36 the guy that was crashed into was going slow but went straight onto the racing line. Like I get the idea of why the guy that ran into him is not at fault but at the same time you can't just crossover onto the racing line when you're going abyssmally slower than racing speed. So it's at least 75 on the Moza Porsche

    7:20 youve got that wrong, Jimmy. The turquoise is pulling over to the left, the camera car expects him to *keep* going left so tries to pull over to the right.
    Instead of pulling all the way over to the left, the turquoise car sits in the middle, then big bonk.
    Turquoise is at fault

    4:35 Blue car wanted to survive. It was the blue car's corner though. Had the blue car gone for it he would've been yeeted off and black would've been at fault.
    9:08 Agreed, but I think OP assumed the turquoise car wouldn't come all the way across. The reason he didn't brake was that he was aiming to go around him and then into the corner. When he realized it was too late.

      Yes, was looking for a comment about 4:35 here.
      Blue had already committed and shifted weight to take that lime alone.
      If it didn't take evasive action, the other car would have to spin out to avoid hurting someone else's race.
      In my book, if an overtake requires you to check the mirrors to see them lunge onto the line and forces you to get out of the way, they are driving dangerously and threatening collisions to gain places

    Edit: Jimmer I normally agree with you, but you're way off on the turquoise Porsche call! The other driver clearly lets off the gas while turning towards the inside to try and avoid a collision, which is exact opposite of what you're saying he did. Just watch his speedometer during the clip and you can clearly see when the turquoise Porsche swerves out in front of the guy he immediately lets off the gas to slow down while turning towards the inside, bc and this is purely speculation on my part, he's guessing turquoise dude is going to continue driving towards the outside given his current trajectory, he's not stomping on or maintaining his speed to rear end the guy. If he did his speed would've remained at 160 instead of dropping off. Js

    I'm with everyone else with that Porsche, I would have done the same - my brain said "he's coming right into my line" the first time I saw it so I'd have tried to go inside too. Then the other guy used his mirrors & turned away from the racing line... that is a definite crash caused by someone not being predictable.
    Pulling out of the pits like IRL that would be a trip to the stewards in practically any series, no? let alone if you caused an accident.
    Turning your lights off in a game that has a radar is a bit of a silly move :p claiming someone braked too early when you're not boxed in is also dumb, just pull out a bit if you're not sure about them. ( Someone braking early and hard when you're boxed in is a nightmare and if you're going to do it at least give some indication by being gentle for a few metres, or they're likely to give you a kiss at least ).
    In the past I'd have recommended hours on AC TF servers to give you a good sense for collision avoidance, but I dunno how popular they are these days.

    Jimmy boi- Would like to offer a suggestion on the next video. Instead of simply grabbing the most upvoted videos, have you considered sorting by most controversial? I joined r/simracingstewards after watching this series and I've noticed the top posts are generally pretty clear cut as far as who is "at fault". Meanwhile, if you find posts that have a ton of comments but zero upvotes those tend to be less clear as to who is at fault. I think breaking down those incidents the way you do (excellent by the way) would offer a new angle and really help out folks newer to the sim racing community.
    At any rate, I always love these videos and look forward to the next one! This series really helped me to be a better driver and think more critically about how my actions can impact the other racers. Thanks for that.

    I'm on that reddit and it's actually baffling how there are so many incidents that can easily be avoided by one of the two drivers just having even a tiny notion of self preservation.
    People are far to scared to lose a tenth or two never mind a second or two that they ended up taking themselves and potentially another couple of cars completely out of the race.

    9:00, to me it looked like the guy was over reacting a bit, cause it did look like the guy was coming all the way across to the outside and pick up the racing line even though he is on his out lap. So the POV car saw that, over reacted, and tried to proactively avoid him with loosing minimal time by swerving onto the inside, but the other car didn't so the pov car railed him

  • @nysashchasam1307

    I honestly put zero blame for that last clip (Nords straight) on the POV driver. At some point you have to trust that the people in front of you will at least be somewhat predictable, or you can't make decisions. Whether we continue down the straight with the throttle pinned, or lift a bit to chop off 50kph, we still get destroyed if the guy in front decides to help us by 'moving out of the way' at the last moment. The guy in front at the very least needs to look in his mirrors before deciding whether to move across the track, and if there is anyone coming, he needs to immediately abort and stay where he is. Lifting here can easily lose us 8+ seconds because of the way the rest of the sector goes, and taking that penalty every single time to give us an extra 2% chance of surviving if the driver in front does something absurdly stupid is not a deal most competitive drivers would take, I don't think. In this instance, I'd rather just hope the driver in front isn't an imbecile, and aim to drive through the part of the track that isn't occupied. If he want's to drive in front of me at the last moment - good on him. It's so bad it's on the verge of intentional wrecking!
    The other examples of people not slowing with an incident in front, I totally agree. Especially the Laguna one, where it's not clear which space the car in front is communicating he wants to occupy. He could easily close the door on the left, or the right, and we need to wait to see his intention and then go for the gap.
    I agree with other people about the Road America pit lane exit example. I think the POV car did a fairly good job at attempting to react to a very last minute, unpredictable situation, and didn't have time to decelerate. He had to pick a gap, and go for it. Is the car in front going to move all the way over to the left because he hasn't seen him? Is he going to notice him in his mirrors and stop moving to the left to not get in the way? Is he going to move back over to the right to 'get out of the way'? We have no idea, and no time to decelerate, so we pretty much just have to guess. The driver went for the inside, the guy in front stopped in the middle of the track, there was a collision.

    In Oval racing, we refer to the unwillingness to slow down for an incident ahead (and thus becoming part of the incident) as "ARCA brakes", because it's a common failure both in the real-life ARCA series and in the iRacing ARCA series because of the relative inexperience of the drivers.
