Edit to Review: There have been several users who have reported that a portion of the included Table Mount can be used as an adapter to mount the T818 to a rig/wheelstand with traditional mounting holes. Therefore it is unnecessary to purchase the separate adapter I mention in the video. I haven't tested it myself but taking another look at it, it does appear to be the case. My apologies for the incorrect information.
Had the T818 for about 8 months now, and it's been a joy to use. There's negative and positive with all these wheels, and the T818 is up there with the best of them. The plastic parts also allow more ffb feel through the wheel. You don't feel flex when you are driving, at least I don't. Yes, it probably would be better with a metal quick release, but imo it has yet to influence driving feel
I bought this since I already own several TM wheels and it was discounted. I have no real complaints so far. I really appreciate the way it keeps things really simple. I'm not the kind of person who likes fiddling with loads of sliders to get the ffb just right. With this thing you just turn the tap and good FFB comes out. I really like the f1 rim as well. I agree that it is kinda plasticy, if you compare it with the premium stuff on the market, but for a sub 500$ rim it's not bad at all.The new rims TM is releasing are also getting better. The gt3 488 rim is pretty great and their newest round rim is also getting great reviews.
A clamp system (with a metal plate + 2 clamps) is including with this bundle and you can use it with all cockpit = you don't need any additional mounting bracket.
It's a no-brainer boosted to so many others.... Moza is great but the wheels are absurdly expensive, Fanatec is similar though not as extreme. With TM you can use your old stuff rather than buy everything again. And finally the power you get for the money is unequalled. Yes it's plasticky but some metal units are very cheap material too. Great review, nicely balanced and credible 👍
You have no clue what you’re talking about 😂😂 Thrustmaster is junk in every way! They sell plastic shit in 2024 catch up to the metal and aluminum game!! My simagic alpha 15nm and pro hub with backlit buttons and so much more plus 330mm round wheels was $1200
This base by itself costs £600 or $650 so when it’s priced at that it’s actually not too badly priced against competitors, and they cover customs fees (If you live in the uk) so Fanatec was actually more expensive… when it only lists holding torque of 10nm and not peak torque you can appreciate that the price isn’t as bad as people first fear. People can bash Thrustmaster all they like but I have used them for 7 years and haven’t had any issues, very reliable and priced well. Have the T818 and 488 GT3 as it made sense to upgrade to that. Majority of people will steer clear because of some plastic but buy other products that use the same plastic…
I bought the Simagic NEO wheel and it feels great. much better than the SF1000. No noise, much stiffer. I did have use a triple adapter setup 1. Simagic maglink 2. Thrustmaster (aftermarket) aluminum wheel adapter 3. Thurstmaster T818 QR.
Thrustmaster is really stuck in the past. If the T818 was console compatible then they would at least have that going for them, but in the PC sim space there's really no reason to buy a Thrustmaster base when there's cheaper bases with similar performance with higher quality ecosystems.
Agreed, i tried this base and was quite impressed with the FF, much better than the Logitech G-Pro I thought. But, where I live, (Australia) the T818 base, at $1170, costs more than the Moza R12 and the Simagic Alpha Mini, both $999, and you can get a Fanatec 8 nm CSL with pedals and wheel, for $899 ! Thrustmaster are kidding themselves at that price point.
Looking at replacing my T300 RS with the T818, mainly since I have had the SF1000 since it was released. Just need to get some better pedals as well and really don't know what to get.
Hi. I use the same combo - T818 with SF 1000 . Show us how are your ffb oscillationts on straights when you take hands off wheel. I have big problem with this (especially in iRacing) no matter what settings I use and even with damper at 100%.
I have to admit while both Thrustmaster and Logitech dont have the most top of the line Direct Drive wheel bases, the game support for them is generally some of the best for out of the box usage as found brands like Fanatec & Moza need more adjustment out of the box, while both Thrustmaster and Logitech dont have the top of the line feedback like some other wheels for just plug and play usage they beat most.
Id like this as my first wheel setup. Do i need internet connection to maintain gameplay offline. I understand i will for setup and firmware. Ofline gameplay is my concern. TIA
Hopefully the reason for the console DD taking so long is that TM are taking the criticisms of the T818 seriously and are doing a bit of a redesign/refresh. It was hard for me to justify the T818 even as a PC user with 4 TM wheels. Spending $150 just to make my old wheels work on the new base made no sense, when I could just sell them and use that money towards an upgrade. Then the bolt pattern is unique and you have to spend even more on the mount. Seeing how much flex is in their new round wheel, I'm glad I moved on from them.
I just want to clarify that you are saying you want to put the T300rs steering wheel on the T818 wheelbase correct? If so, yes you can but you will need to purchase an adapter to convert the T300rs steering wheel to the new quick release system on the T818. All thrustmaster steering wheels are compatible with this base if you utilize the adapter. Hope that answers your question. Here is the adapter you will need: eshop.thrustmaster.com/en_us/quick-release-adapter.html
Thanks for this review 👍 Can you please confirm, is it possible to mount this to a Next Level Racing GT Elite rig without buying the extra mounting adaptor? (Am I right in thinking that part of the metal desk mount - the metal plate minus the actual clamps - can be used and has the right holes?) EDIT Scratch that, it looks like it has to be bought separately for £45 ! So that makes it £650, not £600. That is pretty shoddy on the part of Thrustmaster - buy the T818 and you still need to spend at least another £100 to get a mount adaptor and extra adaptors for your steering wheels.
Strange, Because mine came with the mounting bracket and desk clamp. You can use the mounting desk bracket to mount directly to an aluminum rig, it has several mounting holes. you just won't need the clamps.
@DanDiMaggio I just checked their product description. According to that it comes with a sheet metal table clamp. Afaik there's another base plate sold separately for sim rig mounting that helps if the 818 is too narrow for the existing bolt holes.
Have you seen better FFB in arcade racing games that higher detail ffb wheels do not produce. I find many titles are not just hard to get my SC pro 2 to tune in, but since it wasn't designed for that wheel, it's still not great in its FFB.
It's possible it could have been a placebo but It felt the best I've ever felt in Forza Horizon. I was afraid to say it though because i thought I might be crazy lol
I absolutely love the ffb that this thing outputs but god they need to change there wuick release and the plastic release on the base. Its disguisting and at this price absolutely no excuse. But again god the ffb is absolutely perfect in it. Seriously i own the alpha and ove used aseteks and i own the dd+ which btw is my favorite right now I drowned out the bull going on with fanatec and just use the base for what it is. So yeah the thrustamster imo has as good of ffb as the best bases on the market. So i cant even begin to imagine how good it would feel with a solid wheel with an alu back and not much plastic. Thats also a bit smaller man this thing would be absolutely insane. The best part about it is out of the box it feels good for plug and play users or new dd wheel owners its best for. Most dd bases take weeks to months to dial in just right with tone of testing if you sre anal which most are and the thrustmaster was the only dd wheel out of the box that was good as is that ive used.
So the unit costs more I'm guessing due to Ferrari branding, and I'll have to spend extra on an adapter so it can actually be mounted. And the Ferrari cockpit from NLR I'm looking at is $200 more than the Elite, for what looks to be the same cockpit with some red stripes and a few Ferrari logos. Oh and the "premium" Thrustmaster wheel comes with the budget paddles. So that's another $70 for the nice ones that it should have came with from the jump. I haven't even gotten into this hobby yet, but boy they seem to nickle and dime you.
