That man is a song writing genius
that man is a singer catastrophy..
@@holprod00in what way?
“Never trust someone with one style of music in their record collection”
Touché
Amor
He's spot on. For many years I thought I was cooler and better than people who likes to pop🤦♀️ I only listenend to some singer/song writers, rock, metal myself. Glad I grew up and now I listen to all genres. Life is much more fun that way! Toxic is a great song btw!
I agree! Being open-minded is always a good thing, especially when it comes to music
This is just the opposite extreme, it’s also bad.
The moment you pretend Reggaeton adds anything of value to the world it’s over
He isn't spot on. She never wrote toxic. The original demo is actually so good that you would swear that Britney added nothing to her version.
This guy has a point, but it's kind of funny listening to an acclaimed artist not even knowing the music he claims to enjoy listening to.
Him acknowledging other artists just adds to the pain of it. Like imagine hypothetical if YOU made toxic, and they just give her all the credit in the video.
But that's just the reality. Nobody knows the version that Cathy Dennis made. Sure it happens a lot in music, but in this particular case it's different. You listen to the demo and it's pretty clear that the Britney spears put no effort into that song 😂.
@@treesome3979 that’s the point to get across, it’s not extreme because it’s also you’re choice to only be in your little bubble of what you like, but at the very least acknowledging other genres and their influences on one another is important for one’s self growth as an artist imo at least, it’s like with painting even if you only have a couple of colors you like as favorites it doesn’t hurt to have more and expand your palette to choose from
@@didybopintitys I get your point but to me Reggaeton is not music.
To use your comparison, if metal music is painting with brushes, pop is colored pencils and rap is handprints on a white canvas, all perfectly acceptable art methods.
Reggaeton would be throwing a bucket of melted cheese on the ground and somehow pretending it’s on the same level as the other two.
Also maybe you get a Latina twerking on the cheese.
Toxic is a grade A pop tune. Love it
If you are truly a musician, go dissect the song blank space. It's an absolute masterpiece of Pop functionality. I've been producing records for 40 years and it's just off the charts. Fucking good
This explains why I like Qotsa so much. Been a drummer over 25 years and love ALL types of music.
Music lovers listen to music. They don't close themselves off from anything. My playlists go from the 50s-Now.
I guess I'm not a music lover, even though I listen to hours of music everyday, since I can't listen to country without wanting to destroy the source of the music or claw my ears off.
toxic is so fun to rock on guitar
Fuck yeah!
The Surfragettes do a twangy surf cover. 🎸
music is good to play on guitar, but sadly not everyone can live this
look up local h’s cover of that tune. They went stupid
100%
I do a ukulele cover of the song, it’s a blast 🤷♂️ lol
Nilson Schmilson definetly earns MORE RESPECT.
Josh Homme exactly right..a true musician and music lover can love all different styles and genres, this is how my son is, he's the best guitar player in STL and his range of music has absolutely no boundaries
Btw..our whole family LOVES QOTSA and JOSH HOMME is AMAZING
I fucking love Joshe Homme
Holy shit he’s my favorite musician ever, AND he listens to the same musicians as me too?! Fuck that’s awesome
LOVE THIS! From one music chameleon to another thank you 🙌🏻 I’m sick of genre gatekeepers. Grow up.
Yes sure, but music is music.. the genres are made up by exactly the persons, he described! It's nice for orientation as a teenager but when you're an adult you don't need to define yourself through a music hente
Them crooked vultures, Queens of the Stone Age, Eagles of Death Metal, etc. I love this man
Toxic is a masterpiece. Plain and simple.
Didn't think I could love him anymore, but here I am! I was just about how amazing toxic is and then I see this!!
Dave Grohl has some good comments around this as well. Glad to hear another one of my favorites say it.
Man he's so cool
I like how he mentions The Cars. That solo for Paper Machete, classic Homme style but I can’t help but think of the solo for ‘Just What I Needed’. It’s a sick solo though! So good.
"Look, we're soundtracking our lives here" just the way he says that made me laugh. Like it's a highly urgent dilemma that people have to understand or all is lost 😂 Homme is awesome and hilarious, love'em!
He's right. There's so much music out there that there's a song for literally every minute of our lives.
Spoken from a true artist
Just listened to toxic for first time since middle school. Heard some motifs in emotion sickness that reminded me of it.that was my day
I love his attitude 💯❤💯💋💋
Toxic is an absolute tune.
Love Josh
I'm so glad I was able to see KYUSS
Me too. I went to see Metallica for my 13th birthday. My first live gig. Kyuss opened for them and stole the show for me. I didn’t know who they were but I couldn’t get them out of my head.
It's like an old friend of mine once said: "I like music... unless it sucks."
Such a humble guy, love it
He is such a handsome guy... long live ginger Elvis...❤
Josh Homme will play you a song and/or fight you.
The guitar in Toxic is brilliant. I remember I was obsessed with tone and experimenting with trying to find a specific tone and heard Toxic and I was like "That's it!"
lol i love him even more now.
Objectively amazing song
He’s right, genre seriously doesn’t mean anything to me other I guess describing music? I love having my Spotify playlists make zero sense haha
I love he name drops Astrud Gilberto, ugghh, amazing taste
Jao Gilberto shoutout. Always knew Josh had good taste
excelente gosto musical
Josh is a musician, am I right? Is not everyone that knows our classic music...
Toxic written by Cathy Dennis, legendary songwriter and artist.
A man of culture
Me enjoying all the musicians he named makes me feel cool
This Man is a GOAT... Kyusssss
He’s right about toxic. It’s a banger.
Josh Homme is slowly turning into Cricket from It's Always Sunny, right before our eyes.
All we need is a qotsa toxic cover ! You’re not down foo!!
Ive always said range of musical taste is directly connected to intelligence
Now it all makes sense with the depth of his music once he mentioned Chet Baker
It's comforting to know that Josh Homme and I can go from Stan Getz to Brittney Spears in the same sitting without blinking an eye.
"We're soundtracking our lives here"
The version by A Static Lullaby kicks ass
Toxic is a banger! No doubt.
Thank you. It’s one of the songs that blue my mind when I first heard it. So is Paint it black…
Just love this guy!!
Because thats what mature adults do!
No peer pressure or judgment.
Now that's one cool cat there!!!! 🤩🤯🤘
Love you Josh!
Colonel Sanders Energy is on point ❤
Love this guy went to see in London O2 centre. QOTSA were amazing.
Ill be seeing you in November josh❤
Preach my guy
Facts & the video is even better!!
FOREVER!!
The transition… shape shifty, phase, compression bit that leads the last chorus in Toxic is 🔥🔥🔥
It is a bangin' tune to be fair.
I love Josh.
i've always singled out 'Toxic' as one of the only modern pop songs i've ever liked.....this makes me feel validated lol
The original demo of toxic by Cathy Dennis explains a lot. An actual artist made that song, and it's a banger. You immediately realize Britney spears basically slapped her name over the greatness of another artist.
I never would've thought that Josh Homme would like "Toxic" by Britney Spears, nor even listen to her in general! But it makes me happy that he listens to her
The original demo of that song was made by a real artist. Britney spears may as well not have been involved with that song. If not for her infamy, it probably would have ended up as an obscure(although well loved) tune.
Everyone thought I went crazy when "Toxic" came out and I was like, this shit rocks!! All my friends were like wtf, you're not into that music?
It's her best song
Great taste by a great man!!!!
Also Alex.&.Sieras version is so slick and cool!!!
I love how all the really good musicians and music makers all share one thing: a love for good music. No matter what year, no matter what genre, there’s always been good music through out time
.
Josh Homme is awesome, and all his projects have aged magnificently
Dude, I was 18 and active duty in the Navy when that song came out and I fucking loved it. That's a good fucking song. People are just stupid
LOLOLOL!!! my buddy gives me shit because I play toxic but the bass line is just sick as fuck.
Toxic is a great song
I had a family member who only listened to Rock and roll. Told me that if people found out that I listened to anything that wasn't that I would be looked at diffrent. Went to a cousins house, her mom had records, I found one with a weird group of guys dressed like they were from space, and put it on. That day I was introduced to Bootsy Collins' space bass through "Flashlight", thirty years later I'm still looking for all the pieces of my mind. I've never let someone tell me that since.
High level warlock
Listen to the toxic/pony mashup. It’s one of the coolest songs ever made
I'm a rock metal type o guy and call ne maybe is the catchiest song I've ever heard
This man 🙌🏻 genius ❤
Girl From Ipanema will fix your soul. Interesting how he mentioned three artists that all covered/made that song
Loved toxic ever since seeing the music video lol
I've been saying this about "guilty pleasures" for so very long!
Listen to what you like.
Wow he name dropped Gilberto’s and T-Rex this guys a legend
Absolutely correct. I’m in my 40’s and find myself listening to artists like “Bahari & Chicago” it’s a far cry from Turbonegro or Devildriver but hey, we musically evolve. 🤘🏼♥️
Yes indeed...and I love me some Vince Giraldi as well as Run the jewel's.
That’s a great fuggin song
Besides rock n' roll, chat baker, great brazilian music, man!
Agree 100%
As a metal musician for the past 20 years of my life, I couldn't agree more. Before I started playing music and was only a fan I was a "metal purest" and would make fun of any other kind of music relentlessly. The further I made it in my career as a musician the more I realized that if you're not reaching into other genres for creative inspiration you're keeping yourself trapped within a box and confined by the limitations of that box.Now in my 40s I probably listen to about a third of the metal bands that I grew up on maybe even less. I listen to a lot more bands like Fair to Midland now a days. I think TOOL is about the only band that I'm still as much of a hardcore fan today as I was when I was a kid.
Josh is a real one.
Met him in many years ago at a laundry mat and recognized him from QOTSA, as they had just hit with No One Knows.
I told him I was a fan and loved his music. Before I left his girlfriend came to me and handed me a EODM shirt and that band ended up making my entire young adult life manageable.
Never forgot that.
Yep. I love all kinds of music (other than modern country). 😂 Some days I feel like listening to Queens, some days, I'm listening to Flatt and Scruggs, Post Malone, David Bowie, NWA, Alice in Chains, James Brown, etc. People need to broaden their horizons.
I feel the same way, so I had to know. Toxic was written/produced by Bloodshy & Avant. They are ⅔ of the band Miike Snow.
Shadow Warrior from the Philippines. Hope to see you play before I die.
The Cars 🚘 is incredible.
So fucking cool, saw queens at fiddlers green and they are amazing
Fiddler's Green, Denver CO, right? I was supposed to be at that show but couldn't make it. That sucks, but at least I still have my memories of when I first saw them circa Lullabies to Paralyze at the Paramount.
Homme needs to listen to All Them Witches. He would love them.
Josh Home is top 10 rockers all the time!
And everytime 👌and trex always josh
Awesome Car Fun Maker does a great cover of Britney's, "Toxic"
Gawd!, He's Handsome ❤
Dude. You like what you like! I listen to everything too! Don't give a shit what anyone thinks either!
Omg, I've kept that a secret since it came out, thank you Josh 🙏 for letting me finally admit that. Some of us aren't as free as you are😊❤ Josh Homme, Musical Genius, Super Fkn Hot, Amazing, Musical Genius ❤
