Now it is fully and professionally fixed for under $20.
No additives or tricks just replacing a simple part.
While these were torn in my BMW and they gave me a smoother idle and helped. I also had issues with valve stem seals, but so worth a try

So I want thank you so much I was haveing this same problem I fixed it the car does not smoke anymore at all everyone should know about this in at least do this before they think their engine is bad thank you so much for showing this video you saved me about $9,000

Thank you

Thank you! You solved my issue.
I have the exact v8 4.4i and it was exact the same crank case which reared up thanks for pointing me in the right direction ❤️and saving alot of money trying to figure out what was the problem
So Glad it worked for you..

great work
I definitely got to replace my valve covers
everybody says valve stem seals, ok but on my m57 bmw engine i cahnged them also i got the head tested for leaks, did a piston ring replacement aswell....and the car still smokes blue at idle ( not much , but it does smoke tho ) and it loses a bit of oil.. next thing im changing is turbo ( it has a bit of play ,but ive seen worse turbos that had a lot of paly and still dont spit out oil ... so idk if a new turbo would fix it ) ill be changing the ccv valve too.. wish me luck..
Great info, thanks for posting the vid.
4.8 L V8 BMW X5 2010 - smoking on idle and start-up watched this video and figured why not change out the PCV diaphragm first, bought a pair for under $20, and wouldn't you know it, my drivers side PCV was ripped almost in half like the video. Installed the new diaphragms and no more smoke on startup or idling in the drive thru. Well worth swapping these out and a DIY job, just to eliminate the variable. I haven't seen any more smoke, been about a week, so I think it has solved my issue. (Better than the expensive Valve seal job for sure!) Thanks Mark, great video, helped me out a bunch! Cheers!

Well done.
Mark’s reviews and tutorials
@@Marksreviewsandtutorials Hello Mark, first of all great video... I do have a question for you, I'm not sure if it matters but my x5 blows white smoke like steam not blue , would this be the same procedure? Please advise, thank you in advance!
would like to know the answer to the question about the white smoke. mine is white smoke as well from the tail pipe. but yesterday under the hood smoke was coming out a small area that looked and felt like rope? going from one spot to another it was very short, at first i thought it was a rope that was getting stuck burning to the engine but it was actually connected to something and right where it was connected smoke would come out. can anyone help me figure this out? i just purchased this 2007 328i bmw with 127k miles on it. needs new shocks as well lol i feel like i’m in a boat 😭
nice job done !
Thanks for the video I'm gonna go look at the caps right now my E60 doesn't shoot a lot of smoke but I did notice smoke coming out of the exhaust tips when I had it on park on hot California day, also a little cloud came out when I pulled out the driveway wasn't big or anything but enough to get me worried lol
Also check this. BMW blowing smoke? Valve stem seals the definitive test. ua-cam.com/video/R3NrMnl2Py0/v-deo.html
What was the issue Anthony ?
Wondering if you ever figured out why your E60 was smoking. Thanks
@e46m54nissansr20937 yes, i found out that it was leaking oil from the valve covers, and into the engine bay which caused the smoking. I had to replace the valve covers, and some hoses, also replaced the valve stem seals.
Well spotted buddy..👍...had this same thing but in a different way with my focus ST and a few volvo t5's ive owned..its hard to believe this stupid little diaphragm can cause such worry..my st lost boost and made a howling noise...and if i hadnt changed this it would have blown quite a few seals...but ive been looking lately at bmw 650s...and they can have this smoking problem...do they have this same diaphragm does anyone know ?
I have a 2006 BMW X5 3.0i Suv, which started intermittently smoking like a Millyard chimney - huge bellows of white smoke. Required a new Breather for nearly $1400 (mostly labor). Are you telling me I could've spent just $20 to alleviate this issue?
Awesome!! Thanks. I have this issue with my 05 X5 4.8is. Ill have my mechanic try this
X5 or any X bmw are trash get rid of it ! Junk
And what happened to the end Kesha?
Good day my BMW X5 was smoking like crazy when it set idle I tried everything and it ended up to be just needing spark plug change 😂after that it stopped smoking.
When I idle I have the same issue, hopefully it’s just this PCV cap, thanks for the information going to have my mechanic take a look at it.
BLAZENYCBLACKOPS what ended up happening?

On n54s, smoke (oil) from the exhaust is the pcv valve on the valvecover

Where can I get a BMW X5 2001 4.4i engine cover plate?
Hey
I’m wondering if this fix applies to a 2005 bmw 645ci ?
Worth having a go as the smoking scenario described on this video is identical to what I go through sitting in traffic .
And if this valve wears out , can it also leak back and spill into the engine ,?
Appreciate any advice
Nicky Marley Yes it is worth a try.
Often it can be valve stem seals though. That is much more expensive
Yeah Iv heard stem seals are pricey .
Although if heard with stem seals the smoke is continuous not just when your idol or after a period being stuck in traffic
Replaced mine stopped smoking 3 months later smokes again what can it be??
Use Lucas oil stabilizer if not the ccv
i have a bmw x5 2008 and i was told that it contains 48 valve and they will need to be replace it? I don't quite understand then, it seems you only replaced one?
Miguel Espejel I replaced the PCV valve here and there were two. One on each bank of the engine.
The other common thing to replace when a bmw smokes is the valve stem seals. There are the same number of those in your engine as there are valves.
Engine valves are something different again. In each cylinder there are valves to let fuel in and valves to let exhaust fumes out.
Miguel Espejel what happened
Thanks. What engine is this? I have a N63 and Im wondering if a similar fix can apply.
Ricardo Lopez I believe most BMW’s run similar valves. My current 530i does
Mark's reviews and tutorials G’day Mark, I have a 2008 533i E60 and it blows no smoke when idling as far as I’m aware. But occasionally under heavy acceleration it blows a scary amount of smoke. And occasionally it idles roughly. Can you please share your thoughts mate? Any help at all is greatly appreciated. Cheers
Hi, I have a 2008 335i BMW. It has been burning lots of oil. Every 3-5 I have to add more oil... I took it to German auto 4 times. Spent 2,550 to fix an oil leak. But still have an oil leak. And they tried to charge me an additional 2,200 to fix something they were suppose to fix already. So I also mentioned the smoke and oil consumption. They told me that my turbos was going out. But I don't trust what they told me because every time I went to them I came back with a new issue. Do you have an idea of what may be going on?
Brebently Hi there. There is no doubt that some mechanics method is to take a best guess and to then replace that part.
I have had this before. My suggestion is to change mechanics. If you are on Facebook a great thing to try is to go to your local buy sell swap group and ask there where is the best place to take your BMW. That is what I did last time I moved and I found a local mechanic that was BMW trained so knew what he was doing.
Brebently i think 🤔 you should go get a mercedes-Benz Most BMW cars have a linking problems constantly I have a Bmw and all it do is be parked Bmw dealer got me for $8,400
Brebently Vlog PVC valve on the valvecover. Super easy to do. My oil consumption on my 335i stopped instantly. Got a aftermarket one on ebay, with alloy cover.
Pretty sure I told you about this on another post months ago, well, months later I'm still not smoking... 335i pcv is different than this one, but same issue
i see that you have ventilator in your caps i bought ones without the ventilator, replaced the old ones and still giving the smoke later i checked the old ones, they had ventilator on it do you think that putting non-ventilated cap is causing smoke?
My old and new caps both had what looked like a tube attachment on the cap but both were in fact blocked off.
It the car is still smoking after replacing torn CCV valves then sadly you may have to replace the Valve stem seals and that is a much more expensive repair.
Hello do 750lis have the same issue? I have a 2006 750li that suddenly started burning oil and smokes white smoke 💨 Thanks in advance. .. Pete
Yes 2006 V8’s. Although oil smoke is normally bluish. Watch this video. BMW blowing smoke? Valve stem seals the definitive test. ua-cam.com/video/R3NrMnl2Py0/v-deo.html
I have a 650i 2006 BMW low miles too . 72K and it just started to smoke a bit when its sits for awhile an just happens when you take off. There has been a leak off the the left side of engine front of car. Could it be the PVC valve thats leaking and causing it to smoke and leak a lil. lmk . Hate being a girl sometimes we just ripped off way too easy. lmk please
Hi Colleen. The PCV valve doesn’t leak to the outside. Ie. A drip It leaks oil internally ie makes the car smoke through the exhaust.
Yes smoking and rough idle can be this pcv Valve.
Unfortunately it can also be valve stem seals. These are a very complex and expensive fix
Where can I order the valve caps? I'm having the same issue with my 2009 BMW X5
I finally changed the CCV valve on my 2009 BMW X5 and all I have to say is problem solved.

Hi, I have a 2007 E90. Same problem. Changed the CCV and pipes today. Took out for a test run for a few miles. Still same problem. Do you think the car needs a long drive to get rid of any old oil sitting around?
Shoot Film Like a Boss. Shortly after I shot this video the problem came back, it was fine then all of a sudden it had a massive smoking session again. Turns out the PCV valves were shot as it shows here but my car also had valve stem seals that had failed. So my car needed both.
I was advised by two different mechanics that maybe I just needed to take the car out for a drive to clear it which I did. But because the valve stem seals had also gone it made no difference.
Mark's reviews and tutorials bummer!. I'll see what happens. Thanks for that
Mark's reviews and tutorials well I changed the CCV and pipes and all clear.... For about 5 days. Now smoking again as I pull away! Strange. Why does it clear for a few days then come back?
Shoot Film Like a Boss. I would suggest professional eyes to look at your car cause valve stem seals are very expensive. There is a special tool so that they can be changed without taking the heads off. This will save you about $1000.

I bought those nearly a year ago now so i'm sure it would have all changed now. A quick search on eBay should find you lots of options.
This must be what is going on with my 535xi 2008 with 110k on it. After long idle I get smoke and then it goes away a mile or two down the road. Also if I park with my nose facing down hill on the driveway it's ten times worse. If I park with nose uphill it's not as bad.... interesting.
After reading your comment i suggest you Also check this video: ua-cam.com/video/R3NrMnl2Py0/v-deo.html
does the m54 engine have those things? and if so could it cause a misfire?
Hi Erik. No they cannot cause a misfire, when torn they will just allow oil to get into the air flowing into your engine and they will cause blue smoke.
For a misfire check your coils ua-cam.com/video/i_lyKNyYbpc/v-deo.html
and plugs ua-cam.com/video/WRa_HWgYLbc/v-deo.html.

Hi my golf 5 turbo broke an the oil leaked through the exhaust I put a new turbo but the car is smoking what can I do to stop it
Hi there Shevani When you say oil leaked through the exhaust?
If it was/is a lot Then it could be a major fail inside your engine? If you have increased the boost with Turbo then this risk is also greatly increased.
So this could be blown head gasket or even rings on the pistons. Both of these things are there to separate the oil from the cylinder then exhaust. So if they fail then you can get lots of oil through
Hi a mechanic already changed my turbo but he said that it has to run out the oil from the exhaust that's y it's smoking alot
Shevani Padayachee Yes but running oil out of an exhaust is just 1 afternoon of driving or Take a trip or find a safe place and do some quick acceleration.
If it stays then there is another source leaking the oil.

@@Marksreviewsandtutorials yes but even if it is the valve seals you can still drive on it and nothing happens ever it's just a bit smokey.
I have a 2012 BMW X5 5.0 with and the BMW mechanic told me that the valve stems and both turbos may need to be replaced costing me $15k. I almost passed out. I've searched the internet and found various videos of why it cost so much because of the very very intense labor work. One video had the mechanic dropping the entire engine and drive train to get to the stems and even then it took them several hours (5) to get to the stems. If anyone has any recommendations on how I can save a bit of money I would greatly appreciate it.
NOR19ANDRO With valve stem seals I certainly wouldn’t take it to BMW that would be the most expensive way. I found a place in Sacramento that did the seals without removing the heads and this was way less. With your car so young I would look to find someone who does that.
Mark’s reviews and tutorials
You can save money by letting it get repossessed
@@private6624 Exactly..
Buy the valve cover gasket kit for both sides and Have someone replace all valve cover gaskets and timing chain cover gaskets. All the rubber seals are going bad and causing a vacuum and oil leak. Those engines have to be sealed tight. Mechanics and dealerships know that valve stem seal leaks oil into the cylinder only when the engine has set for a hours or a day and when you start the engine it smokes and then it clears up. Not when you’re at a red light at idle. It’s a big money maker if you don’t know. Just find a decent mechanic not a dealership, buy the gaskets yourself and tell them to put the valve cover gasket set on. You’re save a ton of money. Thank me later. Be blessed
You can buy an oil additive that's supposed to revive the oil stem seals. I don't know how well it works but it all depends if a big repair job costs more than car's worth. I just noticed you posted 4yrs ago, did you get it sorted?
In the case of valve stem seals all you have to do is run a heavier oil and add Lucas oil additive. No more smoke and plus the motor runs forever anyway. Nothing happens any further then the smoke. So just run a heavier oil. Sorted.
Ribarac Klan Don’t I wish that was all there was to it. This car was in California where there are strict regularly tested emission controls.
Ribarac Klan what kind of heavier oil you suggest and what kind of Lucas oil additive? Thank you
@@alexandermirzaev1674 and if 1 bottle of Lucas isn't enough add 2. Its just the oil that BMW recommends is very thin. So the seals leak a bit. Get heavier it leaks less.

Mr.J J stretching the memory but I think the local guys were $6000 including taking the heads of and replacing the head gaskets etc. and capital city was $3500? It could have been $4500. Either way much less. They did the valve stem seals and left the heads on.
I got a question how about if the rubber is not rip n my car still burning oil
7imVue Vuester Hi there. If the gaskets are not torn then this isn’t the problem. These V8’s do commonly need valve stem seals replaced as well. Have a read through the comments here
better to start saving money for a new engine.
Hi All, Can anyone tell me the name of the part in the video so that I can search for it on EBay?
Hi Gigi. If you search for BMW PCV valve and add whatever detail you have for your particular engine you should be able to find these. Also see this video for how to change them ua-cam.com/video/DrNJaZIESrs/v-deo.html
Crank Case Vent Valve
THIS DIDN'T WORK FOR ME I CHANGE BOTH
Sorry to hear that. Were they torn?
The next most likely cause is valve stem seals. Sadly that is a complex costly repair
It’s most likely the valve seals then
Forte
Liqui moly 10w60 and two cans of motor oil saver
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Tried that. Didn't work.
1/2 Quart of Oil = about $2.50 per month X 12 Months = $30.00 a year. Trying fixing it... It's gonna cost you more than $30.00 and time consuming too. Now that is fixing it yourself. If you bring it to a Mechanic.... He or She won't do it under 1K for sure, LOL
Jordan Bronson Hi Jordan. That works unless you live in a place like California where there are mandatory smog (pollution) checks. Then you have to fix it.
Jordan Bronson are you an idiot? The part costs next to nothing, even the n54 version is $40. So you rather be blowing smoke and burning oil than to replace the valve and not look like a moron? Are you serious??? This is why so many of these cars end up in the junkyards for people like me to pillage, thanks!
Is that a kiwi accent I hear?
Hgygge Kansas morning is a fun day h he is not sure
you better open up and show that valve rather than just talking about it
you better look at this video where i did exactly that rather than just whinging about it. ua-cam.com/video/Fjfar5wBDNE/v-deo.html
I hate my BMW X5 48i it's a joke on a pretend quality for a 55,000 car back in 2009. Didnt even make it to 84,000 miles with out, air bags failing and now blue smoke. PIECE OF GERMAN CRAP
Nonya Business Sorry you are having a bad run with.
For interest here is how I fixed my diesel car with bmw m47 engine with bad smoke ua-cam.com/video/sJFHvKIGHIA/v-deo.html
It’s the valve guide seals , 100% of the time , common problem
My x5 4.4 smokes only after idling for about 5 minutes. I was told by a mechanic my piston rings was bad??? The car has not lost any power so I kinda find it hard to believe. What do u think???
tim kaminski I have replaced valve guide seals on a 4.4 bmw engine many times . That’s how it works . When u idle for a while then press on the gas u see smoke . Bmw should have a recall on this problem but they don’t . Even the parts guy at bmw believes they should .
@@joemama5259 then would u say it's defimately NOT the piston rings? Just asking not questioning your reply. I thought it would be weird if it was the Rings cause I have not lost any power, and the only time it smokes is after idling for minutes. I did buy some blue devil stop leak and add to the oil after trying thicker oil. The blue devil does stop the smoke for about 500 miles then the smoke comes back.
tim kaminski , u have different rings on a piston , compression rings and the lower level rings that keep oil out of the combustion chamber. So even if oil rings were worn u will not loose power , but if the rings were the problem , it would smoke all the time , in fact the more gas u give the car the more smoke u will see .
Zed S on my n54 is was the pcv on the valve cover that was blown. I could push air through it both ways. $40 later for an alloy upgrade one, all smoke gone, oil consumption completely stopped, so, not always valve seals. If you take your pcv off and its torn and pushes air both ways its trash
You have the Worst Bmw V8 motor Ever Made.
