Well I'm late here but it is "seventh's son." It's a reference to folklore that says the 7th son of a 7th son brings great good fortune or has powers of some kind.
This concert was recorded specifically for release so they played a touch fast. All 5 were at the top of their game here. The dvd/CD that were put out in 2006 were produced by Steve Perry and even he was amazed by it. There is not a bad track. Mother Father was one of the most difficult songs for Perry to do live and he hit it fabulously.
Seventh son meaning - The Seventh son of a Seventh son is a concept from folklore regarding special powers given to or held by, such a son. The Seventh son must come from an unbroken line with no female siblings born between and, in turn, be born to such a Seventh son.
My brother was at this concert, and didn't bother taking ME!!! Any way, I made up for it for the Frontiers tour, when my best friend and I saw them for the 2 out 3 sold out concerts!! We have called this live performance a 'Masterpiece'!! We have even gone to say, it's better than the studio version! Steve "The Voice' Perry, is pretty much all we need to know!! I've been a fan since 1978!! And I'm so grateful to have seen them (with Steve Perry) in concert!
Hey that's good you were able to make up for it! And I had been wondering when I posted this if other Houstonians would come out of the woodwork! You have any suggestions or requests on some more good Journey to listen to? If you want to know what songs I've heard before I mention it at the very beginning of the video

I also saw Journey for their last concert with Steve Perry in 1986 for their Raised On Radio tour, aka ROR. And then I saw Perry for his very first solo tour in Ft Worth in 1994. Message Of Love (killer song!), It's Just The Rain, When You Love A Woman, Still She Cries, Colors Of The Spirit. Again, if you can only react to just the studio, that would be great as well!! Some songs have videos and some don't! These are just some of my all time favorites, Hope you can react to them! Journey on my friend!
I saw Journey with Steve Perry in the early 80’s. To this day I’ve never EVER heard anyone come close. I seriously couldn’t believe me ears. The man was amazing!!!!!
Neal Schon (guitarist) has played everything: latin rock, blues rock, jazz fusion, traditional blues, pop rock, hard rock, heavy metal. If you love guitar, you really need to seek him out. He's the most versatile guitarist, I believe, ever.
Steve Perry, one of the best rock vocalists of all time, not called the “ Voice” for no reason! Steve has commented that this is one of his personal favorite performances. Hej från Sverige. Jon Cain Journeys keyboard player calls Perry "one take " since the Escape album just needed ONE take from Perry!! More Great Perry singing... Try "I stand alone" from 1998 Your welcome...😊
The Seventh Son carried a lot of folklore over the centuries. That was the son with magical powers, and the son that took care of the family and parents as they aged. So the lyric is in reference to the "singer" as he took on responsibility for trying to save the family. And when you think about it, how many children in broken homes feel that responsibility for what has gone wrong between their parents? It is very common for kids to think if they are better, stronger, etc., that somehow they can fix things... I think that's what the song is trying to show. Of course, that's just my interpretation...
@@carolpurcell1772 I have read about the 7th son in folklore. It is an interesting interpretation. One that I had for some time until I heard Steve in an interview address the 7th son to someone who asked about it and he said it is a biblical reference. He didn't get specific about where in the Bible, and I have searched for something about the 7th son in scripture and I am not entirely sure about what he is talking about.
@@victorialw1 I found it in Viking/Norsemen type legends... It might be in the Bible somewhere, but I haven't found it there... I don't we need to get too hung up on the details -- I think the song is really laying the heaviness on the son who has returned to try and save the family... that he is "alive for them" and that they need to have faith and believe. Can you imagine that burden? Most of the song was based on Neil Schon's childhood...
Seven is the number of completeness and perfection (both physical and spiritual). It derives much of its meaning from being tied directly to God's creation of all things. It is also tied to HIS judgement. I have always perceived the 'seventh son' in this broken family as the one, spiritual wisdom, that is crying to this family to have faith, believe & keep trying to mend the family & regain their completeness. Don't you know that I'm alive for you? I'm your seventh son. And when lightening strikes the family, have faith, believe!❣

This song is considered a 'deep track'. It wasn't released as a single and didn't get a lot of radio play. But being a huge Journey fan I thought EVERY song on the Escape album was fantastic and I'd put this in the top 4 on the album. This night in Texas the entire band was spot on and knocked the whole show out of the park. On this song, they knocked it straight to the moon.
The seventh son of a seventh son is a concept from folklore regarding special powers given to, or held by, such a son. To qualify as "the seventh son of a seventh son" one must be the seventh male child born in an unbroken line with no female siblings born between, and to a father who himself is the seventh male child born in an unbroken line with no female siblings born between.[1] The number seven has a long history of mystical and biblical significance, such as seven virtues, seven deadly sins, Seven Sleepers and Seven Heavens.
