I can't believe you've not heard of THE VOICE, Steve Perry!!! I was at this show. Incredible. Little did I know when Steve said they were recording, that 40 yrs later, millions and millions of people the world over, would be listening to it.
My favorite will always be "Still they Ride" Tokyo live 1981 But Steve is the GOAT. Hands down the best male vocalist when it comes to live performances.
@@thefamm definitely check it out. In my opinion it is some of Steve Perry's best vocal performances. His vocal control is amazing, and his range is mind boggling.
Lmbo, you are in trouble now. They have got you on the Steve Perry. Brother, if Aretha Franklin says he's the best rock and roll voice she's ever heard that carries some serious weight. Whenever you think you've heard their best then you get shocked again. That's Neil Schon on guitar, Jonathan Cain on Piano/Keyboards, Steve Perry Lead Vocals, Steve Smith Drums and I think either Ross Valory or Greg Rolle on Bass. By far my most favorite band of all time. They are just unbelievable.
He’s amazing. No auto tune. No pitch correction. I love Steve Perry and Journey. My grandkids love him too. ❤ Neal Schon on guitar, Jon Cain on piano, Steve Smith on drums and Ross Valory on bass. During the raised on Radio tour, Jon had the same red grand piano.
This concert was phenomenal! I was fortunate to see them live at the Joe Louis Arena the year they toured on this album. I think I was about 16 when I saw them that year at the Joe. Every time they came to the Detroit area, I was there! It was an awesome experience and sometimes surreal, as Steve's voice can make you cry sometimes because of the emotion he can sing with. I vowed to never see Journey when Steve left the band, and I've kept that promise. No other person, even if they "sound" like Steve, can ever "be" the soul behind the words he wrote and sung.
He went into the studio to record this song & did it in ONE take, now that’s impressive and he is so talented! He is called The Voice. He is such an sweet down to earth man as well.
During a 2019 interview, Steve said that when he was 7 his parents divorced and for the longest time he felt it was his fault 🥺. I can relate. This song is very personal for him
Pick any song Live in Houston, same concert, and you will be amazed!! It's literally The perfect concert!! But any live version of Journey is incredible. Yes, piano in every song. The Voice...Steve Perry. This was our music! These were the concerts we paid to see!! And they sold out constantly!!
Neil Schon, he played guitar for Carlos Santana at just 15 years old. This is all live piano is Johnathan Caine. Bon Jovi called Steve Perry “ THE VOICe”

Glad you've been exposed to the greatness of Journey and the "The Voice" Steve Perry. One of the great rock bands of the 70's and 80's. This may be the best live vocal performance, ever. Truly incredible.
What makes this song so beautiful is that through verses and the chorus and solos it is cohesive, it flows, there is no wasted effort on anything - and oh yeah, the voice.
This song is said to be a very difficult song to sing as reported by vocal coaches. In an interview Jonathan Cain said that Steve Perry recorded this song in the studio in 1 Take! Though Steve made it seem as though it was effortless, it was a song that wasn't performed night after night, for weeks and months on end, when on tours because it was vocally too taxing. Still Steve is phenomenal, he can sing it live on stage, just as good or better than the studio version. Visually you get the bonus of seeing the emotion that he puts into as it reaches into soul and gives you chills. You will experience this everytime you react to a Journey song with Steve Perry...promise!
Well, you started right at the top with Journey. This song...THIS SONG. Steve Perry at his absolute best. The entire Houston 1981 concert is one for the record books, I'm telling you.
