      Honesty isn't the first virtue I would ascribe to this dude. He seems to be a really kind and loving guy, but the studies he runs are... dishonest to be polite. It's almost like he has an a priori goal 🤔

    "Don't eat in front of the car" great slip of the tongue. Made me laugh. I love Christopher's relaxed style and sense of humour when delivering what would otherwise be a dry lecture. Thank you for sharing.

    Fantastic - love the idea of eating plan vs diet. Also like how all eating styles can lead to weight loss.

    42:00 They probably had more muscle on their frame, did weight training often or ate more fibre dense foods.

    29:34 - the low carb group had 120 grams of carbs at 12 months? I can't consider this low carb. This study is just high carb vs medium carb

    • @psychohist
      @psychohist 3 роки тому

      For the general public, that qualifies as low carb.

    • @borissman

      @@psychohist No it does not. Its high vs medium. Its not even liberal low carb.

    How about a study on healthy diet? Weight loss should should be a byproduct ,not the main focus of a diet.

      Which is exactly what this study was. Prof. Gardner says so explicitly in this video.

      How about addressing a problem people have? Fatness is a genuine problem. Weight loss is a genuine priority. Doing it healthily is preferable, but doing it doably must have priority.

    Why do I get the feeling he’s talking about Gary Taubes(the founder of the institute funding his study)? 🤣

    • @omadoutlaw4868
      @omadoutlaw4868 3 роки тому +1

      I know Gary Taubes was not very happy with the out come, but added sugar and refined grains are a big part of the low fat diet.

    One amazing thing about this video is so few comments. My big question is how are these people doing today in 2021? Are they part of the 2 percent that will keep there fat reduction.🤠

      Don’t know but I lost 105 pounds over 25 years ago and have kept it off by making the main part of my meal vegetables and grains but it was still a struggle because I was still eating dairy, eggs and meat. It’s easy to gain weight eating animal products because they are high fat/high calorie. Now I’m WFPB vegan and my weight doesn’t fluctuate more than half of a pound either direction no matter what I eat. Weight maintenance is super easy since whole plant fiber keeps you from over eating naturally

    6:32 What is it that keeps explaining the variability among diets? 18:24. That's what: you keep rigging the studies. Titration... give me a break. Quit gaslighting.

    Even keto doesn't require cutting out nonstarchy vegetables. The main difference between keto and regular low carb is that you can't eat significant amounts of fruit and stay in ketosis. You probably could eat avocado.
    Keep in mind that keto isn't food groups based; properly done, it's based on daily testing. Diets that are ketogenic range from Atkins induction through Paleo to "Lion diet" (meat only). These variations might have implications for running a keto study. You'd probably want to collect daily compliance data based on ketostix results.

      Avocados are totally keto friendly. An average avocado has about 15 grams of fiber

    The low fat group was given direction to follow a complex carb diet as well as low fat. It seems to me the findings would point out there is no benefit of low fat and low carb when used in conjunction. Shouldn't a low fat & complex carb diet produce a more measurable result? Why elimate both groups when complex carb alone is just as effective?

    Seems strange to expect the IR people to find success with their diet, but, they will become insulin sensitive when they are successful. So, it sounds like they want to slip back into the old narrative about low carb being IR because their glucose test shows delay in response to two cans of Coke. The idea here, guys, is to NOT BE EATING LOTS OF CARBS in the first place. I would be interested to hear Gardeners response to latest water and salt diets, forty days without any carbs, grains,fruits and veggies, burning body fat! What's that do for his study?

    53:20 Steak, eggs, and meat are great. The guy stuck so well to the "low carb" advice, it even was ketogenic. And there's no reason to highlight saturated fat in red as if it's a bad thing.
    Still a great talk though.

    Realized calorie restriction or hormone control. The word calorie should be eliminated from the discussion of food and maybe replaced with something like message or information or you tell me,but food is not just fuel as the word calorie denotes.🤠

    • @seitanbeatsyourmeat666
      @seitanbeatsyourmeat666 2 роки тому +2

      Food *is* simply fuel because it burns. A calorie is a measurement of how much heat is required to raise 1gram of water 1C
      We’re not gonna redefine an entire word used for science just because it’s hard for you to understand

    Is there a bottom line here ?

    • @AI-vs7sm
      @AI-vs7sm Рік тому +1

      EXACTLY!! The whole point here is that people who WANT to go low carb of low fat can usually stick to it, long term! They are motivated. The very first line I learned going into low carb sphere was , don't lose fat to get healthy, get healthy and you will easily lose weight, also!
