I feel like you should have a 'why tf would I use this?' Tier. It's not for things that are truely aweful, but rather are out classed, or serve a very niche purpose, cure poison HAS a use, it serves that use as well as it needs to, but why would I use a spell slot for it when I have a TON of items that cure poison? How far do I expect to go without a bonfire and how often do I expect to have poison get procted on me? Unless the answer is yes, or I'm doing a challenge run where I can't use bonfires freely, there's no point. It's outclassed to the point of basically being useless, but is still usable, and is also rather inoffensive while doing so.
Electrify armament is buffed by the gravel stone seal. I have a build that is based around it And test it myself. Is by using the gravel stone seal And then using a different seal with a higher Incantation scaling. In the gravel stone gave more damage
Eviscerating Gideon by staring longingly into his eyes makes inescapable Frenzy a personal favorite, even if it is completely useless in 99% of the rest of the game
tbh it’s not as useless as it looks. I’ve managed to catch quite a lot of people with it and my pvp skill is basically nonexistent I like this incantation, it is fucking badass and no matter how useless it is, having a grabbing attack in souls games is thrilling. I wish it worked in pve more
I just picture him getting halfway through the list and losing his mind when he remembers that scaling is different from weapon to ash of war combination to combination. Redmane might kick butt on erdsteel dagger. That doesn't make it good for something like flamberge where every attack is a sweep already, and the faith scaling is lower. Essentially meaning that this list is gonna have to be a comprehensive look at weapons and ashes. Or I guess 3 lists. Weapons Ashes And unusually strong outliers good and bad.
It's funny how FromSoftware makes big beautiful spells and incantations that LOOK powerful and are visually stunning but awful in terms of damage or DPS but at the same time make a spell or incantaion that looks awful or unimpressive but is able to slay gods. Catch Flame has no business being as broken as it is when Giants Flame Take thee is practically a mini nuke.
@@pickolas5664 And manually moving backwards after each entry? That would be very inconvenient when you want to watch a video uninterupted, wouldn't it?
All they really have to do to buff Vyke’s Dragonbolt in my opinion is change it to bump you down a weight threshold. If Iron Flesh could force us to fatroll regardless of carry weight, it should be possible for Vyke’s Dragonbolt to adjust our effective weight as well.
IMO I'd like it way more if they changed it to just give the same buff as Dragonbolt Blessing. I'm not going to purposefully make myself overweight just so I can sometimes not be for 70 seconds or whatever the uptime is. The hardness buff is way more useful, and being able to gain both that and a weapon buff at the same time, saving myself a spell slot would make it so much more appealing.
I love my Dragon Cult Dex/Fth build and VDB is integral to the build, but it’s sad that I could be using Electrify Armament for the exact same damage buff. If I could light roll with it it would be SO much more worth it, but red lightning looks cool and I can afford the FP so 😅
I think that might be a little too powerful; you could hypothetically wear full bull goat, greatshield and weapon of your choice, ignore the jar's arsenal talisman, and invest minimal endurance and still be mid-rolling.
I know this may sound cheesy, but I genuinely appreciate the content you put out with all of my being. You somehow make it seem like you're both done with creating content as a whole yet making masterpieces at the same time. These long videos give me something to watch while just chilling or having it in the background. Even going back to some of your older videos that I've watched an unhealthy amount of times entertains me like I watched it fir the first time. Thank you Rusty for sacrificing your time and sanity to make content. Edit: Hi again, just here to say a few things. First off, thank you for 2k likes. Almost a record honestly. Secondly, to all of the people agreeing with me, I do enjoy seeing others' appreciation. Lastly, to all of the people calling me cheesy, haters gonna hate (jk, I still appreciate the interaction)
I think this says everything that I could have. Rusty has always made me laugh with his sense of humor. Just watch his hollow knight bloopers for a perfect example of that.

When the game just came out me and my friend where playing together (his first souls) I went GS&shield+faith, him pure glass sorcery. We were never a huge fan of invaders, so we kept spells around to make them suffer. Me tossing lightning spears, rot dragon breath and barricade shield (back when it was broken) and him tossing rocks and the glintblades. Most invaders either got stuck attacking me, or took rot when chasing my friend. This changed when i found elden stars as it made people panic and run in circles miles away letting my friend snipe with Loretta's greatbow or giving me time to set up a nasty rot breath. I'm not saying elden stars is good, but man watching people run in circles in panic for the first month while rocks, magic arrows and literal artillery cannon spell rained down was amazing and i will never forget it.
I will say Erdtree Heal is broken on your mimic. The mimic has infinite fp, so if you’re a melee build and set Erdtree Heal as your only incant, it’ll use it to become literally unkillable. It’s fun watching late-endgame bosses helplessly flailing their arms at something that literally won’t die.
Blasphemous blade can also recreate this effect, watching radagon angerly bash the mimic tear into the dirt and then watch the mimic heal all that damage is hilarious.
Why not give the mimic one more spell for damage? I only say that because the mimics seem to cast the spells at pure random with no concern for what’s appropriate. So I’d think the mimic would end up casting erdtree heal every third spell anyway. Unless you mean to give them a melee weapon too
57:33 Expected dragonmaw to be at least in top 10 considering how much it’s carried you in the Randomizer run. Especially since they give you ridiculous hyper armor
@@iheartblock3792 with a consecutive hit build you can amp your dmg capability with regalia of eochaid and shatter anything with this spell fextralife has a build about it i love it.
The Crucible Incantations are pretty damn great stagger/stance breaking tools which is fitting for the Crucible Knights...and let's be honest they're mostly for the style anyway. Summoning horns to gore your enemy, slapping them across the face with a dragon's tail, or walking towards them menacingly as you belch flame in their face are all just satisfyingly brutal and stylish...also they're just plain fun.
You don't actually need to kill Malenia to get Lord's Divine Fortification. It and Black Flame's Protection both go to the twin hag's shop in the roundtable after killing Gideon, no matter what bosses you've killed prior.
Plus, even if it was necessary to beat her.... Because I play co-op so much. It would be worth it to pretty much protect other players from a majority of end game bosses.
Actually, you don't even need to kill Gideon, only to set the Roundtable Hold on fire. Gideon will leave and any spell he gives you that you hadn't unlocked yet will go to the Twin Maiden. So you only need to beat Maliketh basically, though it's not a great feat to just go up to Gideon and kick his ahh right after doing that.
Vyke's Dragonbolt is not only bad, but disappointing. A red lighting buff to your weapon seems like a super cool idea, but much like the Dragon Greatclaw, it does not deliver. I don't understand why they had to make it worse than regular electrify armament in almost every way but add the most situational body buff ever on top of it.
@@asdergold1 Which isn't particularly useful unless you're toeing the line between either light/medium or medium/heavy. In the first case, why? Wear heavier armor. In the second case, also why? When the buff runs out you're fucked on rolling.
I would honestly rate Bloodflame Blade a bit higher for another reason that isn’t mentioned. As he already mentioned, it’s good with something with already high bleed build up, but the thing about the buff is that it leaves a Black Flame like effect where the flames persist for a few more seconds. Which in practice means the blood loss gauge will fill up after the initial hit for a few seconds after. Meaning it’s very good at keeping bleed up even if your offense is interrupted, and can lead to funny moments where the opponent just randomly explodes with blood everywhere after a few seconds of not even being hit. When it all comes together, this means it not only buffs blood loss while adding a little bit of fire damage, but the debuff after a hit means that it will also be able to keep that bleeding pressure up to prevent losing progress if your offense is interrupted, which also just means more regular blood loss all together either way. Because even if your offense is not interrupted, that periodic blood loss is still happening in cooperation with the blood loss inflicted by your weapon hits. So it essentially is double layering methods of inflicting blood loss. Oh, and did I mention that short debuff can stack with multiple hits unlike Black Flame?
the blood loss animation also makes enemies flinch so if the bleed filling is delayed, it may interrupt an enemy after you hit, while they're responding with their attack, leaving an opening for another hit or healing
Fun fact: holy damage doesn't Perma kill those who love in death. If a spell or effect or weapon has terminology like "sacred" or "holy" THEN it Perma kills them. I tested this with the elder beast's wave of gold and sacred blade. Sacred blade Perma kills(and insta kills if your weapon is strong enough) while wave of gold does a bunch of damage, but the skellies still get back up if you don't wack them fast enough
Order blade exists to remove the 'un' from 'undead'. At doing this one specific task, it's SSS tier. Imo, the single best spell in the entire game to fight undead is order blade.
I will give some credit to Erdtree Healing in that’s it’s great for full caster builds. My last playthrough was a full caster with 80 Int, 80 Faith, 60 Vigor, and no Crimson Flasks only Cerulean. This means that my only source of healing was incantations. Which also means that if I’m super low on health, Erdtree Healing will get me all the way back to the top in a pinch. Otherwise Great Heal was my go to
I am a faith build with 0 defense, light roll, and only vigor, and I can say this statement is true. Try saying this is bad after you regenarate 100% of your hp with not even a full flask. This is better than crimson in basically everything except time.
@@Kharis- I managed to make it work because I have an Xbox Elite controller, so for my Elden Ring button layout I have one of the paddles mapped to my spell scrolling so I can scroll through without having to take my hands off the attack buttons. That, and I have my spells laid out in such a way that I can scroll to whichever one I want without even having to look because I’ve memorized their placement in the list lol
Bloodflame has the pretty nice effect that the bleed still builds up a little bit after you hit your enemy bridging some downtime inbetween hits. This makes bleed build up much easier. It get's outclassed by arcane builds and bleed weapons, but if you have a physical build with a weapon that builds up bleed, you can spend a few points into faith (or just hotswap a talisman) and get a pretty strong combo. For example if you combine it with bloodhound fang.
For this reason this is at least top 20 and probably more like top 10 for me. I consistently use this deep into playthroughs, doesn't matter that it falls off late game a bit.
Cool little thing I found. If you two hand claws or fists your charecter just pulls out a second claw/fist because obviously you can’t two hand them. So if you add a buff to your claw/fist and then two hand you basically get dual claw/fists with the weapon buffs. So you can do really cool builds with keen raptor claws bloodflame blade and a ton of dex. Along with the usual bleed setup with the white mask, lord of blood’s exaltation etc you can make a really op bleed build that not many people now about cus u essentially have two super fast bloodflame claws when your not supposed to be able to have bloodflame in your offhand
Don't sleep on poison mist - it's a fantastic miracle to use at the start of a boss fight. Poisoning a boss can do tons of damage over time, and the requirements are low enough that almost any build can use it. It's probably not something I'd use on a casting build, but rather as a utility spell on a melee build.
Firestorm was also there in Demon Souls and it was a BEAST. Combining it with Clever Rat’s ring, Morion blade and 30%HP melted just about everything in sight.
Something cool with vyke's would be automatically taking you down a roll level rather than just increasing equip load, so youd drop from a heavy equip to medium, or medium to light, and itd actually justify the incredible stat requirements while also making it more useful on heavy builds
It should cause frenzy, or increase frenzy of his spear as a hidden effect imo. Lore wise it could show how truly NOTHING is immune from infection. They need a way to give deadly poison and deadly scarlet rot to weapons, bows included. Almost no one talks about deadly poison.
The thing about Inescapable Frenzy is that its damage relies on the Crit of the weapon in your main hand. So having something like the Misericode in your main hand will greatly boost your damage. The biggest issue with Inescapable Frenzy is that it is NOT boosted by the Frenzied Flame Seal boost.
@@Kharis- It got patched in 1.03 or 1.04 if I'm not mistaken. I've got a clip lying around somewhere of me doing 5,8k damage on White Mask Varré during the Palace of Blood invasion quest with Inescapable Frenzy and it certainly doesn't hit those numbers today.
Flame Cleanse me is an absolute staple in every build I do. That 12 faith is an easy ask, and 10 for the base seal makes it a constant utility for me on every single character.
Saint riot talks about this, faith is insane. Using the two finger talisman on any character and your get flame cleanse me and catch flame off at the start of the game. Incredible.
Thank you for putting the number ranking and picture in the corner of the screen. I wanted to get all of them, and I have about 60% of the incantations at this time, so that allowed me to skip passed ones I had already which made this video much shorter. Also your commentary is really hilarious. Subbed
Black Flame Ritual has to be my favorite for sheer style points. It combos into literally everything, including itself. You can cast it uncharged, then charged, then uncharged again until you fall down, and nothing without enough poise to ignore Malenia's kick can break through and get you. It also loops nicely with the other area spells, as well as straight damage like fireballs or frisbees.
I didn't dare try it with Malenia but off the top of my head, the only boss I remember walking through it with impunity was Radagon. He tore me an interesting new arsehole as well.
Correction on Firestorm: it goes all the way back to Demon's Souls, where it actually was a very powerful spell for both PvE and PvP. So really, Burn O' Flame is a return to form for the Firestorm type spells.
Firestorm in DeS was THE most broken spell in the game. It was so broken, in fact, that you could easily oneshot every single boss in the game up to NG+3 at minimum with the right build with a single cast of Yuria's Firestorm. This is why it is absolutely useless in all three Dark Souls games, because it was so gross even Miyazaki had to admit that that spell was not okay.
@@brendanmurphy214bsolutely useless? In dark souls 1 there are 3 of those and two of those are really good, ds2s version is also really good. The one in ds3 on the other hand is just admittedly garbage
Law of Causality is actually very easy to make work by running the beastman jar shield. It has 95% physical resistance so you can just take tiny chip damage through your shield to trigger the explosion. Of course its usually better to just use a different spell for damage but if you're looking to use it for some flavor then it's not like you can't get it to pull its weight. You were in fact using the wrong catalyst for Lansseax's Glaive as the Gravel Stone Seal has such terrible incant scaling compared to the rest that its passive bonus actually doesn't make it outperform just using the Dragon Communion, Erdtree, or Golden Order seals instead. The only screen time that seal should be seeing is when you carry it in the other hand to buff the incants you cast with your seal that actually pulls it's fuckin weight.
To anyone who may watch this video for build planning: Black Flame Blade, as i've come to learn it, is meant to be paired with ashes of war moreso than with normal attack inputs, one example being Stormcaller. This AoW with its 2 follow ups has the exact same duration as one cast of black flame blade, whilst engulfing you in crazy hyper armored wind that pretty much stunlocks every enemy up to the size of say, omen enemies. You can even slap it Rotten Insignia and Prosthesis for that crazy build up damage. Just an example, tho.
I really like incantations in Elden Ring. I never really did a mixed magic build in any of the other Soulsborne games, and I didn't start with it in Elden Ring either. But incantations are just so varied and there's catalysts for basically every build, _not_ using them after you do use them for a while feels... naked. There's just so many varied uses of them and they add so much to shore up the weaknesses of melee builds that playing the game as a magic knight of some flavor feels like the intended experience.
I wouldn’t say any specific build is the intended experience apart from them probably expecting you to at least occasionally use some spells. But I played as a sorcerer so intelligence spells and plan to do another melee run and I’m sure I’ll feel naked. The adula’s moonblade spell is just too fun and powerful, wish I could do an incant build next but I really wanted to branch outside magic.
Rusty you are genuinely one of my favorite youtubers, you're really funny and your voice is amazing, and your personality of not giving a shit always makes me laugh. I absolutely love your content.
A good thing about scarlet aoenias rot is that in addition to taking off a third of a bosses hp is how FAST it happens because it deals it across 90 seconds. Unless you're already doing an insane amount of damage to kill the boss in less than a minute and a half, it basically makes it so that you're fighting a boss with 30% less health. Plus, with how often bosses decide to do 30-second combos, it keeps the pressure up while you can focus on dodging.
To be fair, bosses only do "30 second" combos, if you let them. Ik you're being facetious, but still. 99% of fights, what attacks an enemy does can be controlled by the player through spacing/positioning, projectiles/certain melee attacks, forcing input reading, etc. But you're right, Aeonia is effective for the reason you mentioned.
Hey black flame’s protection is actually super useful if youre struggling to dodge waterfowl, the first part is the hardest for most to dodge and that little extra defense can be the difference of tanking the hit and getting away to heal or not (speaking from experience)
In two videos you've become my favorite Elden Souls person. The honesty, the comedy, and cut throat straight to the point and yet some fucking how still telling a story is rare gold. Bravo, man.
26:00 when you talk about law of regression being somewhat lackluster, Rusty, I think it shines more in PVP when you’re dealing with an opponent that had an anime protagonist monologue in front of you and you want to give them a slap across the face. You noted it deactivates enemy buffs, it does the same against players. I maybe would’ve given it a bit higher on the list, but the rest you’ve stated is well said. Much love
Lord's Fortification could probably be bumped up a few slots since you can buy it from the Maiden Husks after killing Gideon, regardless of whether you've suffered through the Malenia sanity check or not. You don't get it for Fire Giant or Godskin (who don't do Holy damage anyway...) or Maliketh (who's squishy enough, hits hard enough and has Blasphemous Claw exist that it probably won't matter), but you do have it for RadaBeast which is the major place it'd matter anyway.
40:20 Seriously? Flame, Cleanse Me is ridiculously useful in Caelid in general, as well as whenever you're up against any tough enemy (or group of enemies) or bosses that inflict Rot status. This is especially important in the Haligtree. The fact that it also cures Poison is a nice bonus, too, so you can have one spell for those situations too. And since you can easily get it early on (when you won't have any boluses for Rot), combined with how easy it is to get the Faith Talisman too, it becomes a really handy tool for curing Rot when you're running around the map in the early game, where you have little healing and no other way to cure Rot (looking at you, Abandoned Cave where you can get the Gold Scarab Talisman).
I always carry Law of Regression just because of the insult value against invaders. I love just calmly standing there while they stack buffs and consumables just for me to flap my arms a bit and wipe them all away.
something to note about a few of these incantations 1. a lot of two finger incantaions are just really good for hteir efficiency and solo play, sure i may find a better fortification later, but i don't need that if i'm not buffing everyone around me/not summoning. 2. lightning spells are the only damage type in the game that doesn't have an attribute that increases lightning resistance, and can even hit harder if an enemy is wet (and this include being soaked in rot or poison YEAH HAVE FUN WITH THAT NOTE BOYS N GIRLS), also like i say earlier, dex faith is probably better for lightning anyway....and dex increases cast time which come to think about it the lightning spells all have LONG cast times...huh.. 3. Black Flame Blade is a short cast spell like catch flame and beastial sling, meaning you can cast it faster after any attack/movement animation (rolling, backstepping, jumping, or sprinting), it prioritizing fast/multi hit weapons, take a spear with repeating strike and that %burn adds up. (and obviously all black flame spells stay good because of the %burn) 4. Whirl, O Flame.. do you have turtles? do you have the leyndell/Haligtree knights or anything that hides behind a shield? WHIRL FLAME IGNORES SHIELDS! on top of the tracking affect and distance it's you can use it as a combo tool to force someone into an attack they don't want (same advice for Flame of Fell God) 5. all AOTC incantations are HYPERARMOR MONSTERS! sure the fire damage isn't as good as dragonfire/blackflame/giantsflame. but it's still fire, a damage type that's very versatile through the entire game and easily buffable. slap on crucible armor and you're gunna have a good time tanking stuff with this AND the other crucible spells (and slap on other erdtree spells, they are all *Technically* in the same school with the armor) 6. Beast Incantations, same with two finger incations (like the fortify spells), these are honestly for just strength boys, physical damage that scales off strength better than faith, either slash, pierce, or blunt damage, quick to cast and more range....yeah pair this with your favorite bonk stick and you have a good time being a feral tank. oh and alot of these spells are multi hit with several projectiles...and what do we do when we have a spell that does that? that's right boys and girls, we make giant monsters cry. 7. Erdtree heal, GHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHHEHEHEHEHHEHEHEHEHEH CAN NEVER HAVE TOO MUCH HEALING IF YOU BUILD FOR IT BUDY BOIIIIIII 8. Flame of The Fell God... god i love that spell and i like WHEN we get the spell, Prophets in my experience, especially playing as one, play this dance with their spells and simple weapons where most of the damage is from...the spells duh, while the weapon is meant to keep people away... THIS SPELL, does 2 things at once: 1. it forces a player to run or dodge, letting you have a better chance of landing a hit. if they run you can bully them with spell fire, if they charge well they just put themselves between you and THE FUCKING SUN... also against pve this thing is a good aoe stagger to ambush enemies, and the fire patch burns more than you think. it's just a good aoe spell, work around it, don't try to let it do the work (SAME GOES WITH ELDEN STARS....even though that damage sucks ye) 9. Ekzykes/rot dragon breathe. doesn't matter how bad they nerf that it's an ARCANE scaling spell that applies rot these two spells are going to stay where they are in the power chartes of PVE and PVP just because of how Rot damages things, all the nerfs do is lean people more into Arcane Faith, not Faith Arcane if you know what i mean. 10. bloodflame blade, repeating strikes... no seriously that's it, get a multi hit weapon and watch this thing fucking people, specially if that weapon already applies bleed...oh and THIS type of bleed is actually worse in PVP...because you can't dodge the bleed proc on it. 11. Borealist Mist/frostbreath, FROSTBITE DEBUFF GO WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE 12. flame o Frenzy, deceptively high damage for when you pick this up, decent aoe spell for early game too with the other one being lightning damage...and not usable indoors... >:C, also multiple projectiles, make anything the size of a trailer car cry 13. frenzy Howl, while i don't like the talisman effects this thing applies, the bonus damage and putting this on a tank build with a greatshield/spear setup is the funniest meme in existence because of HOW counter damage is done in this game, also the defense debuff is easily countered by greatshield talisman 14. Black Flame Ritual, lightning storms FoTFG, Elden STars, and Firestorm, anything that makes a lot of death around you for a few seconds after casting... good against big monsters OR just to give yourself a breather to heal/buff 15. blessing/anything bigger than heal, lords fortifications and Golden Vow all rely on two things: are you cooping? and are you using the dragon lord talisman? if so? use them, if not? well keep using Golden Vow because what does that NOT stack with? 16. buff armamnent spells....feel more like they're for spellblades than casters if you get what i mean by those titles, like if im a pure int, faith, infaith build that focusing on my casting stick than my weapon? it's better i just infuse my weapon to open a spellslot to hit stuff...but if i'm a strength/dex/qaul build? that added damage might be nice i dunno 17. breath spells in general now get a buff from the roar medallion...as if dragon breath spells NEEDED that but hey i still they it should've done that from the start. 18. Red Lightning spears are tricky to use, but here's tip i reminded myself from the DS3 days...remember Lightning Stake? YEAH USE IT LIKE THAT, these ain't Crowd killin tools, not better than Glaive or other incants for that anyway no these are the spells you use to FUCKING DUMPSTER A STRENGTH BUILD IN A TRADE AND COME OUT ON TOP 19. Giantsflame Take Thee.... "BY FIRE BE PURGED". ima tell you how hard this hits at 80 faith and beyond...this is hitting so hard for me...that i took off Black Flame, yeah, i took off black flame. sure 30 fp kinda hurts but i have 38 Mind, and if i REALLY need to cast something cheaper i slotted O Flame and Flame Fall Upon Them (the multi fireball one, both spells are 16 fp and they hit like MONSTERS)...also fun note, nearly all of the FireMonk/Giants Flame spells can be charged, if you're not using Godfrey Icon you're a damn fool. 20. speaking of, 69 faith is the point where Erdtree Seal outscales every other seal in the game, but holding the right seal in your other hand will still apply it's damage boost to the spell even when casted with the erdtree seal... so yeah no hit people with THE POWER OF GOD! 21. placudisax ruin, you notice how that explosion starts immediately when casting? did you know that does damage? yeah now you know how to use this in pvp, shotgun people with it while midair it's hilarious. 22. Honed Bolt, Lightning Wave, and Lightning Spear can actually send a bolt THROUGH enemies from above (LS if charges fully)...which means if you use it on water.... 23. Dragonmaw/claw, remember how i said Crusible spells have ALOT of hyperarmor? yeah these are the HYPERARMOR KINGS!
Order's Blade also has a huge damage bonus against undead. And by undead I mean Death Rite Birds. Stack with Last Rites to trivialize them completely. I think Elden Stars might do a little stance damage which would prevent them from recovering stance at all. I think.
Sacred Order AoW also stacks and is bugged currently. It applies as a weapon buff on the weapon that uses it but works like a body or aura buff, meaning it stacks with as many weapons as you can get to use it (only buffs weapons though). Just placing it on a dagger you keep in your inventory to equip and use for death birds is great and doesn't take up any more spell slots
@@noah1535 I'll have to remember Sacred Order next time I want to hit the Snowfield bird for 10000+ damage. Sacred Blade has the same undead damage bonus as Order's Blade but it takes up the ash of war slot.
For #2, Catch Flame, you can chain it with Magma Breath upon landing the former from a jump, canceling the animation and just going straight to the damaging part of the latter.
‘Flame fall upon them’ is such a great incantation because of its low FP cost and characteristics. It hits harder than Fireball, costs slightly more, and has a massive AoE. The only thing this should do better is if the projectiles lasted longer so you could carpet bomb enemies like the name suggests.
13:26 just incase y’all didn’t know, I love urgent heal because it’s quick, way more convenient than a flask, overtime heal, or a large FP incant heal. The seal you use for your incantation heals make a difference. Erd tree seal with urget heal heals about a 3rd of a max HP flask. Definitely a great spell for a back up heal due to the low FP cost, speed, and the amount from it. It really shines if you use the talisman that raises defense or attack when Hp is full.
I think Fortissax's Lightning Spear is actually pretty fp efficient against anything that isn't Fortissax himself. If a spell consistently does 3k on my level 100 build, 35 fp is warranted. I would personally put it higher on my list, but it could be that catching duel lightning bolts and smiting some dumb black knife assassin who thought that she could grab me out of the air makes me grin. RIP Tiche, respect the bolt.
Im starting to prefer Fortissaxes spear over ancient lightning strike. It just seems to hit more consistantly to me. If i want a boss melting aoe, i use burn, o flame
I really like this and the sorcery tier lists, they give me previews for what they look like, how they work, and if they're effective. All things I want to know before choosing what goes best with my characters. One thing I would like to request (although I know it's a lot of work) is ranking the Ashes of War. I saw there was a tips video for them, but not a ranking yet (unless I missed it).
For Black Flame Ritual, try casting an uncharged one right after casting a charged one; it both fills a lot of the charged version's empty space and looks pretty cool. I don't think it will do 2 HP debuffs but I'm pretty sure anything fat enough to get hit by both rings will take the fire damage of both at least.

Would you rather spam up on D-pad to find and then cast a slow animation to get rid of your deathblight, or spam down on d-pad (probably less times) to eat a rejuvenating bolus? Personally, I'll take the bolus and an extra spell slot
@@ASimpleInternetUser or would you rather not use either as the two enemies in the game that deal deathblight do so as such a fast rate that being stock in the animation is probably worse than doing nothing?
There's another reason why Discus of Light is so much better than Way of White Corona actually, and that's because it doesn't expire upon hitting a wall! Instead, it just acts as if it's reached the end of its range and zooms back to you, which makes it actually worth using indoors or around objects, or just at all. The damage buff and FP efficiency is also pretty great.
its a pretty cool utility from the INT/FTH spec even as a faith monkey, being able to move around and have it zip back to the player rather than cast position is really sick
This really helps me go to sleep. It's entertaining and helpful, but it's nice to be able to turn off my brain to let somebody else tell me how the incantations work
It's actually kinda hilarious how high catch flame is, especially because when the game first came out and I did a faith build I was disappointed by my damage and used EXCLUSIVELY catch flame to beat both Margit and Godrick
Same stuff but for Carian Slicer, my first mage playthrough was kinda meh, got Slicer, and pretty much only used it because it's not even funny how much it outdamages every other spell. Catch Flame is still more bullshit tho since you get it instantly and the FP consumption is non-existent
I have to disagree with The Flame of Frenzy. I loved this spell in my first playthrough and still do. If you can hit all or at least most of it's projectiles the poise and fire damage are both very high, while not consuming a whole lot of fp, which makes it very efficient. It's best used against clumps of small enemies or even single large mobs, since almost all projectiles can easily find a target in these situations. The madness buildup can mostly be ignored, you'll just have to switch to another spell after a few casts, so it can't be used standalone very well. Still The Flame of Frenzy is one of the, if not the most underrated incantation in my opinion and i can only recommend at least giving it a serious try. Note: It also confuses enemies with input reading and is generally hard to dodge if aimed correctly, which can be a bonus in certain fights.
Giantsflame Take Thee should be in the top ten. I don't care it is expensive, it does big damage, has loads of buff options, and has a big splash radius to the point where I just need to aim in the general direction of enemies.
Burn O flame is so much fun against Malenia, cause she always swings her sword above my head, when I dive into the ground and always gets hit and knocked down by the flame as seen in the video. Love that spell also against the crucible knights duo, works perfect on them
Bloodflame Blade is an interesting one. It has ridiculous synergy with claws and fists because of how fast they hit, but other weapons get mid to bad results with it.
Every weapon buff is applied to bolts. This was Miyazaki's gift to Arc builds. And is also why deathblight is only applicable via the death shotel guarded by Commander Niel in the Snow fields. Which is why it is there.
Heck yeah, waited for this one, what an effort to make this! 👏just one tiny thing: you don't have to kill Malenia to get Lord's Divine Fortification, you can buy it in Roundtable Hold after killing Maliketh.
The named dragon infants are able to be used while jumping, making them much safer and unpredictable when used. The fp trade off varies on person to person, but I think it’s worth it.
The status cure spells should've all given you bonus resistance to that status, like the colored gourds in Sekiro. Maybe the multi-status spells give a smaller resistance to give the others more of a niche. Could be flat bonus plus a percentage of your existing resistance. Imagine if Order Healing gave you 50% more deathblight reistance, it might actually be good.
Because rusty. I win pvp with law of regression all the time. It's the killing blow. The magnum opus of my arsenal. Just imagine. Using all 20 of your buffs for a solid 2 minutes just for me to pop a spell that makes all of that disappear. The amount of red signs I've summoned and watch dc or jump off a ledge after I hit my win button is amazing. "oh noooo my buff! That's like half my build!"
Respect for all the effort of testing and analyzing :) Law of causality though, is a very good pvp spell. Getting a shield with 95 % block helps to get the blast off, but even without that it forces your opponent to either refrain from combo's or keep counting their own hits. The best your opponent can do is getting greatsword hits in (which are easily dodged) or throw some knives aggressively to try and proc the blast from a distance, which means.. you are given the initiative for aggression and you might as well try to let the blast go off in his face anyways. Damage is always around 300 - 500, which is pretty nice. Summary: law of causality - underrated spell that does actually quite well.
Vyke's Dragonbolt would be really cool if it boosted lightning damage like fgms boosts fire and physical. Its already niche but making it basically the ultimate "you are lightning" spell wouod be thematic and cool.
So for the express purpose of using it for crits, Black flame blade EXPONENTIALLY increases in usage after applying it to something with a crit bonus so keep that in mind.
So fun fact, the Inescapable Frenzy incantation is boosted by the current weapons critical damage in your primary hand, so the Misercorde adds an additional percentage of damage
It took me like 20 minutes to realize the second "whoosh" sound effect after you introduce every spell was not my cat having a sneezing fit. I actually spoke to my cat out loud to ask if she's okay. She has chronic congestion, so it's a sound I'm very used to hearing. Then I stood up and realized she's not even in the room.
Fun fact: the tree sentinels shield parries any form of non physical projectiles, including your own. Triple rings of light and discus of light are the best options. I was flabbergasted when someone pulled this out on me in the arena.
The tree sentinels can also parry comet azure which is hilarious, I am on ng+25 and I have tried comet azuring them on my first magic playthrough only to deep throat a giant holy laser beam. I died instantly and laughed my but off
Imho Order's Blade did not get enough love. Its int requirement is so low that you can usually just afford it with Godriks rune or if you use anything else requiring Int. Its amazing at oneshotting undead enemies (and making them stay dead) that can be hassle for some build e.g. Farum Azula/Deathrite Birds. I ran it as a backup buff and while its not S or A tier, it imho sits comfortable at low B tier for niche situations.
I'm not gonna lie I've grown kind of a fondness for black flame blade. I use lord's Talisman to very slightly boost its duration and typically put it on my godskin peeler for fast multi hitting. But yeah I definitely feel like the duration could be improved
This video is much appreciated, Can tell it took a while too! Doing a Str / Fai build currently and its a bit harder than spamming sorceries with an int build.. you have my sub good sir.
Black Flame Blade is the fastest way to apply black flame (true scaling damage) while still boasting a good flat fire damage buff making it invaluable for ng+. This incantations will kill anything completely regardless of resistances or health in 50 hits at most with its DoT effect alone. The Old Lord's Talisman gives it just the right amount of active time to not feel stressed out for not wanting to waste the spell and its fast casting speed allows you to use it frequently and effectively in most boss fights. Overall extremely consistent easy to use weapon buff with a minimal 17 faith requirement This does kinda suck compared to other weapon buffs in ng though ngl
Built an entire speed run around it, because I think it is really cool and has high skill ceiling. Yeah, it's really not good compared to to other options tho.
Sort of agree on this list and the incantations are kind of hard to rank because there are like 5 buildpaths at least that uses incants and variations to them based on what you are doing currently. I did a lightning caster playthrough and ancient dragon lightning strike made me not complete the rest of the game because it felt like I won already but that's not going to be the same for someone that uses a different build. Good rankings all things considered!
Theres also the sacred blade AoW from the scarab near the Mixed Physick flask which does the same as Orders Blade with the bonus of a holy beam at the start to bounce people back

I am genuinely happy you put inescapable frenzy at 50 its better than dragon bolt
Vykes dragon bolt gives me alot of AR especially with my tree spear, elden would be kinda good if it had more big exploding things in it
Eviscerating Gideon by staring longingly into his eyes makes inescapable Frenzy a personal favorite, even if it is completely useless in 99% of the rest of the game
When a dude does a genocide then kills one of my favorite spirit ash's dog, he deserves the special treatment
Based
tbh it’s not as useless as it looks. I’ve managed to catch quite a lot of people with it and my pvp skill is basically nonexistent
I like this incantation, it is fucking badass and no matter how useless it is, having a grabbing attack in souls games is thrilling. I wish it worked in pve more
Fun fact it scales with your crit damage so feel free to use a misericord in your other hand
Glad im going Faith this time and im gonna decimate that ahole with that spell

A boatload of thanks to you, man!
each video is just another step towards “ranking every elden ring weapon from worst to best” video and i love it.
It's gonna happen, and it NEEDS to
Rusty's true greatest foe to make xd
He should.d start slow with rank all katanas
I just picture him getting halfway through the list and losing his mind when he remembers that scaling is different from weapon to ash of war combination to combination.
Redmane might kick butt on erdsteel dagger. That doesn't make it good for something like flamberge where every attack is a sweep already, and the faith scaling is lower.
Essentially meaning that this list is gonna have to be a comprehensive look at weapons and ashes.
Or I guess 3 lists.
Weapons
Ashes
And unusually strong outliers good and bad.
Please
The fact you can't use vykes Dragonbolt on vykes spear pisses me off
I was genuinely about the start a Vyke build run and now I find this out. I am so mad.
@@Metallijosh100 Mad, you say? You’re already halfway there to being a true Vyke stand in.
Its so dumb.
Yeah
Well on the cover he uses claymore so I use it on the claymore but yeah
It's funny how FromSoftware makes big beautiful spells and incantations that LOOK powerful and are visually stunning but awful in terms of damage or DPS but at the same time make a spell or incantaion that looks awful or unimpressive but is able to slay gods. Catch Flame has no business being as broken as it is when Giants Flame Take thee is practically a mini nuke.
thank you burn o flame and black blade for looking dope and kicking ass

I agree.
If I could light roll with it it would be SO much more worth it, but red lightning looks cool and I can afford the FP so 😅
@@Nyahahamehait should make you fast roll like the feather tear does
Or just make the entire buff considered a weapon buff only
I think that might be a little too powerful; you could hypothetically wear full bull goat, greatshield and weapon of your choice, ignore the jar's arsenal talisman, and invest minimal endurance and still be mid-rolling.

I honestly love how good Catch Flame is. Combustion was my favorite pyromancy in DS1, and it feels so good to see it still pulling its weight
The legend never dies
Yep pyromancy in DS1 was amazing ❤ I remember melting black knights with combustion.
Blasphemous blade can also recreate this effect, watching radagon angerly bash the mimic tear into the dirt and then watch the mimic heal all that damage is hilarious.
frickk off mimic abuser
my inner summoner is laughing with glee at this concept. I can't wait to finally get to try the mimic out. I wonder how they handle a crossbow.
this sounds so good for a pacifist run i wanna try it out
Why not give the mimic one more spell for damage? I only say that because the mimics seem to cast the spells at pure random with no concern for what’s appropriate. So I’d think the mimic would end up casting erdtree heal every third spell anyway. Unless you mean to give them a melee weapon too

It makes you lighter.
@@asdergold1 Which isn't particularly useful unless you're toeing the line between either light/medium or medium/heavy. In the first case, why? Wear heavier armor. In the second case, also why? When the buff runs out you're fucked on rolling.

Yeah. As someone whom ADORES the the ancient dragon incantations and almost swears by them, seeing vyke's bolt genuinely hurts.
Vyke's Dragonbolt should be toggle on/off, not duration dependent imo. Then it would be worthwhile.
Oh, and did I mention that short debuff can stack with multiple hits unlike Black Flame?
the blood loss animation also makes enemies flinch
so if the bleed filling is delayed, it may interrupt an enemy after you hit, while they're responding with their attack, leaving an opening for another hit or healing
And it’s a low maintenance incantation, you don’t even need to build for arcane to actually get it working well.
"Tickle your balls and leave the room" is the greatest analogy for the strength of a defensive spell XD
@@SondreGrnengJust don't forget to cast it with Godslayer's Seal or the Erdtree Seal; the buff only applies Faith scaling, despite requiring INT 💀

This isn't the case though. Holy Dicus of Light does not perma kill undead.
@@redbirb1571 Don't quote me on this but I think if you have enough cast speed it's about the same speed as taking a sip.

When Malenia winds up a Waterfowl dance but gets knocked out of it due to the lingering bleed build up is just wonderful.
Along with the usual bleed setup with the white mask, lord of blood’s exaltation etc you can make a really op bleed build that not many people now about cus u essentially have two super fast bloodflame claws when your not supposed to be able to have bloodflame in your offhand
personally the stats don't even matter it just looks cool :D
@@Powersd451that saved me against her so many times. Nagakiba with bloodflame and double slash. It's just RoB but actually better

How you get this knowledge ?
Is this still true?
It's also worth noting that the frenzied flame seal has such a ridiculously low spell boost that high faith with the erdtree's seal works better.
Seeing the NORMAL lightning spear so far up makes me so happy :)

To your last point, it’s a great smoke screen to cast a throwable at an opponent while blocking their visual to catch them by surprise.
Oh I know. I used this spell often back in the day.

To anyone who may watch this video for build planning:
Black Flame Blade, as i've come to learn it, is meant to be paired with ashes of war moreso than with normal attack inputs, one example being Stormcaller.
And the most important part, they look cool af
I wouldn’t say any specific build is the intended experience apart from them probably expecting you to at least occasionally use some spells. But I played as a sorcerer so intelligence spells and plan to do another melee run and I’m sure I’ll feel naked. The adula’s moonblade spell is just too fun and powerful, wish I could do an incant build next but I really wanted to branch outside magic.

99% of fights, what attacks an enemy does can be controlled by the player through spacing/positioning,
projectiles/certain melee attacks, forcing input reading, etc.

I love just calmly standing there while they stack buffs and consumables just for me to flap my arms a bit and wipe them all away.
something to note about a few of these incantations
1. a lot of two finger incantaions are just really good for hteir efficiency and solo play, sure i may find a better fortification later, but i don't need that if i'm not buffing everyone around me/not summoning.
2. lightning spells are the only damage type in the game that doesn't have an attribute that increases lightning resistance, and can even hit harder if an enemy is wet (and this include being soaked in rot or poison YEAH HAVE FUN WITH THAT NOTE BOYS N GIRLS), also like i say earlier, dex faith is probably better for lightning anyway....and dex increases cast time which come to think about it the lightning spells all have LONG cast times...huh..
(and obviously all black flame spells stay good because of the %burn)
4. Whirl, O Flame.. do you have turtles? do you have the leyndell/Haligtree knights or anything that hides behind a shield? WHIRL FLAME IGNORES SHIELDS! on top of the tracking affect and distance it's you can use it as a combo tool to force someone into an attack they don't want (same advice for Flame of Fell God)
5. all AOTC incantations are HYPERARMOR MONSTERS! sure the fire damage isn't as good as dragonfire/blackflame/giantsflame. but it's still fire, a damage type that's very versatile through the entire game and easily buffable. slap on crucible armor and you're gunna have a good time tanking stuff with this AND the other crucible spells (and slap on other erdtree spells, they are all *Technically* in the same school with the armor)
7. Erdtree heal, GHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHHEHEHEHEHHEHEHEHEHEH CAN NEVER HAVE TOO MUCH HEALING IF YOU BUILD FOR IT BUDY BOIIIIIII
8. Flame of The Fell God... god i love that spell and i like WHEN we get the spell, Prophets in my experience, especially playing as one, play this dance with their spells and simple weapons where most of the damage is from...the spells duh, while the weapon is meant to keep people away... THIS SPELL, does 2 things at once: 1. it forces a player to run or dodge, letting you have a better chance of landing a hit. if they run you can bully them with spell fire, if they charge well they just put themselves between you and THE FUCKING SUN... also against pve this thing is a good aoe stagger to ambush enemies, and the fire patch burns more than you think. it's just a good aoe spell, work around it, don't try to let it do the work (SAME GOES WITH ELDEN STARS....even though that damage sucks ye)
11. Borealist Mist/frostbreath, FROSTBITE DEBUFF GO WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
12. flame o Frenzy, deceptively high damage for when you pick this up, decent aoe spell for early game too with the other one being lightning damage...and not usable indoors... >:C, also multiple projectiles, make anything the size of a trailer car cry
13. frenzy Howl, while i don't like the talisman effects this thing applies, the bonus damage and putting this on a tank build with a greatshield/spear setup is the funniest meme in existence because of HOW counter damage is done in this game, also the defense debuff is easily countered by greatshield talisman
14. Black Flame Ritual, lightning storms FoTFG, Elden STars, and Firestorm, anything that makes a lot of death around you for a few seconds after casting... good against big monsters OR just to give yourself a breather to heal/buff
15. blessing/anything bigger than heal, lords fortifications and Golden Vow all rely on two things: are you cooping? and are you using the dragon lord talisman? if so? use them, if not? well keep using Golden Vow because what does that NOT stack with?
16. buff armamnent spells....feel more like they're for spellblades than casters if you get what i mean by those titles, like if im a pure int, faith, infaith build that focusing on my casting stick than my weapon? it's better i just infuse my weapon to open a spellslot to hit stuff...but if i'm a strength/dex/qaul build? that added damage might be nice i dunno
17. breath spells in general now get a buff from the roar medallion...as if dragon breath spells NEEDED that but hey i still they it should've done that from the start.
18. Red Lightning spears are tricky to use, but here's tip i reminded myself from the DS3 days...remember Lightning Stake? YEAH USE IT LIKE THAT, these ain't Crowd killin tools, not better than Glaive or other incants for that anyway no these are the spells you use to FUCKING DUMPSTER A STRENGTH BUILD IN A TRADE AND COME OUT ON TOP
Just a heads up, you can still use Poison Mist to cheese the Tree Sentinel. You just have to hug the wall really tight. I just did it today 5/28/23.

Seconded
I'm watching your videos in prep for the DLC and I just wanted to say that I love the Spyro soundtracks playing in the background of your vids!

"Who splits Int and Faith on a shield?"
Me, sword-and-boarding with the Night n' Flame sword.
I think that one incantation that relieves deathblight build up is top tier
Would you rather spam up on D-pad to find and then cast a slow animation to get rid of your deathblight, or spam down on d-pad (probably less times) to eat a rejuvenating bolus?
Personally, I'll take the bolus and an extra spell slot
@@ASimpleInternetUser or would you rather not use either as the two enemies in the game that deal deathblight do so as such a fast rate that being stock in the animation is probably worse than doing nothing?
@@ASimpleInternetUser I would rather spam up on my d-pad and then cast a slow animation because then I know I'm making someone like you mad
@@fernthefrond7039 this is sort of like getting in a car crash deliberately to make people who care about road safety mad.
@@SorowFame Except this is a video game............... So sorry you can't see that a video game and people's lives aren't the same
It's nice to see discus of light so high up, it is such an underrated incantation
Would it be so high, if they hadn't dropped the cost to 3 FP?
@@becomingsentient1208 i forgot how much it was before, but the damage and speed is fairly respectable, even besides how cheap it is now.
The FP cost is so low that at this point it almost feels like a consumable tool or ash of war
lightning spear is my favorite, even if there are flashier incantations this one looks the coolest when you spam it
@@SuryaGupta-te7fq Its speed + range is unmatched among incants, I think.
0:23 thanks for putting that there i DO have an exam tomorrow and was dead ass about to sit here for another hour on this video
Inescapable Frenzy's only defense is that using it to kill Gideon while he tries to finish his monologue is funny.
The rats speaking Latin joke really got me. You are a great mix of good info and actually being funny.
My boy seems like works as a lawn mower with all them references
Giantsflame Take Thee should be in the top ten. I don't care it is expensive, it does big damage, has loads of buff options, and has a big splash radius to the point where I just need to aim in the general direction of enemies.
Efficiency was more Rusty’s criteria for this list.
giantslamfe
Burn O flame is so much fun against Malenia, cause she always swings her sword above my head, when I dive into the ground and always gets hit and knocked down by the flame as seen in the video. Love that spell also against the crucible knights duo, works perfect on them
A combo of that and the godslayer greatblade is what finally got Malenia down for me.
Bloodflame Blade is an interesting one. It has ridiculous synergy with claws and fists because of how fast they hit, but other weapons get mid to bad results with it.
13:04 You can still kill the draconic tree sentinel with poison mist if you move slowly and crouched. I did it on stream a few days ago.
Every weapon buff is applied to bolts. This was Miyazaki's gift to Arc builds. And is also why deathblight is only applicable via the death shotel guarded by Commander Niel in the Snow fields. Which is why it is there.
To bolts? Help me understand please
@@qualiswilliams7403 I think there's a video titled something like mathematically correct death blight that explains it.
Yup. It’s like the old pine bundles
So fun fact, the Inescapable Frenzy incantation is boosted by the current weapons critical damage in your primary hand, so the Misercorde adds an additional percentage of damage
That’s been patched
It doesn’t do that anymore
@@this_is_Muffin No it's still a thing, it just isn't a massive boost like it used to be
It took me like 20 minutes to realize the second "whoosh" sound effect after you introduce every spell was not my cat having a sneezing fit.
I died instantly and laughed my but off
This guy feels like if Sam O'Nella made Elden Ring guides.
10/10
If you use the godskin peeler for its aow this is what wiki says about it:"Removes any applied weapon buffs upon use, even Black Flame Blade."
Lords Heal is OP in exactly one scenario:
Equip lord's heal
Equip radagon talisman
Equip Equip mimic tear
Mimic tear doesn't have an fp bar
Overall extremely consistent easy to use weapon buff with a minimal 17 faith requirement
This does kinda suck compared to other weapon buffs in ng though ngl
Built an entire speed run around it, because I think it is really cool and has high skill ceiling. Yeah, it's really not good compared to to other options tho.
I really like it, but I agree that it kind of sucks, if only it were a bit longer, like 15 seconds. Still I love using it with my godskin peeler
Seeing erdtree heal below the normal heal is wild
Yeah, he overvalues FP efficiency way too much.
Nah man I have a exam tomorrow
Did you pass?

Theres also the sacred blade AoW from the scarab near the Mixed Physick flask which does the same as Orders Blade with the bonus of a holy beam at the start to bounce people back
the negative is that its only 30 sec, not 60
I love the fact that Fextralife can make a lot of incantations that look terrible to be so much useful and fun to use within their every builds
Okay shill
