Unknown fact about swarm of flies: it can stun Malenia every tick of damage, so it’s pretty much useless against everything except the hardest boss in the game where it shreds her health bar and leaves her vulnerable to attacks.
Work great in pvp, you force the opponent to roll or he takes good blood buildup, and with the delay of the flies you can time an other attack to roll catch
And at 00:23 seconds in, this list gets immense credibility by a) establishing this list is specifically applying PvE not accounting for PvP and b) showing what stats were used for the data on this list. ALL his tierlists are MASSIVELY skewed by his own bias and the popularity of the thing being ranked, he actually just does not even know what hes talking about 90% of the time. Whenever hes ranking something (weapon/spell) he does not actually use it for any amount of that would allow him to compare it with others or develop any kind of experience with that weapon/spell. He most likely just uses that weapon/spell for like 15 minutes or so in mohg palace then decides to rank it based on arbitrary reasons. The main thing i like about swarm of flies is that if you immedietly cast it right after a critical attack they will almost always face tank the full spell allowing you to immedietly proc bleed after the critical attack
One of the things about Bloodflame blade you forgot to mention is that the bleed buildup continues on an enemy while the fire is ticking. This is one of the most important aspects of the enchantment. If you want to see it in action, take a Nagakiba with Repeating Thrust and Keen affinity (I had 20 points in Arcane for this). Put bloodflame blade on it. Go the the Subterannean depths and use the Ash of War on one of the Omen dudes. If every hit lands, he won't bleed immediately but a second or 2 later he will proc blood loss because the bleed continued to build while the fire was damaging him. This is exceptionally handy as bleed begins to slowly tick down on bosses if you don't keep hitting them with a bleed weapon. That 2 seconds can be the time you need to dodge an attack and counter.

i dont like the argument of the lesser dragon breaths>named ones bc fp cost: 17% is an absolutely massive damage increase for incantations that do so much damage. With such slow attacks you need them to hit as hard as possible It is more than worth 25% more FP
In terms of Black Flame Blade, I was just doing a bit of testing in the Underground Roadside with a +25 Nagakiba against the Omens. I tested out a 80 Dex Keen build with BFB, 80 Arc Occult build and 60/45 Dex/Arc Blood build. Consistently the 80 Arc Occult build out damaged the other 2. Single hits between the Dex and Arc builds were fairly close with the Dex build doing slightly more damage but with the quicker Blood Loss buildup from the Arc build the Omens would die a lot quicker and in fewer hits. Especially when paired with Spinning Slash, the Arc build out performed the Dex/BFB build.
i’m glad the Blood incantations are extremely good now. I remembered wanted to make a faith bleed build when the game just came out, I found out about them all over the days with videos and so on. Sadly they were all kinda ehh except for the weapon buff and swarm of files.
Maybe it's just me but I really like black flame ritual. The effect may seem lacking against single enemy due to the FP cost but it helps me get out of many multi enemy situations because they will almost always run into it. It has fast animation, deals decent percentage damage and stuns enemies for some good seconds, meanwhile I can either heal, charge up something else, or just let the spell finish the job for me.
I personally prefer black flame fireball over Lightning spear as it's just so efficient at dealing damage, especially lategame. It's also worth noting that the godslayer's seal has the best scaling in the game until you get like 60+ faith
Great video mate. Just starting a faith build and am glad to see it won't be hopeless, I'm already enjoying lightning spear and bloodflame blade but still have a lot more incantations to amass by the looks of it.
Its like michael zaki had a slight feeling of guilt over all the poison swamp areas so he started to give more options to heal. But in the middle of that process he came to his senses and instead decided to troll us with so many useless poison heal spells

9:00 the reason why dragon bolt blessing makes you take more lightning damage is similar to the reason iron jar aromatics do the same thing. Everything in the game that can increase hardness stat debuffs your lightning resist.
i used it against malinia bro during my incantations only run ...slow and tedious process but she went down and this was the only spell capable of hitting her.
Black flame ritual invaluable if you're a caster and need a second of breathing space. It gives omens, haligtree knights and other super aggressive npcs a moment of pause
i just beat malenia for my first time last night after about 50 tries, so seeing her tossed in the air by aspect of the crucible horns was immensely satisfying for me lol
I WISH... 'Dragon Claw' was cheaper but did less damage. I want a 'Catch Flame' for pure dragon incants. Even with the FP cost buff its still expensive. While it hits like a truck there isn't enough of a difference between it and Dragon Maw for it to have the specs it has.
I don't think Elden Stars was truly designed to be a damaging move in the traditional sense. The health damage it does is minimal but the poise damage it can do is really great. Been using it with my current build which focuses on poise damage and if I can get it off at the start of a boss fight, mix it with some of the other poise-damaging moves I have and the bosses are usually on their knees pretty quickly and ready for a riposte.
I kinda have the impression that the low damage incantations at the bottom do low damage because it is spread out over many individual hits and defenses get applied to each one of them. So instead of 300 reduced by flat 20 you have 30 reduced by flat 20, i.e. 10, multiplied by 10. Something like that. And in higher NG+ the defenses are really cranked up.
ive found a single use for law of causality and its in my ranged builds whenever i am going into an area where i know there are ambush dogs/rats/imps etc, often they manage to surround and stun lock you to death (i am a pretty newish player) so this delayed shockwave helps get them off and gives me space to figure out a way to fight them

Well, at 20 mind (can't remember if it's at 20 or 20+5 with Godrick's rune) you get 2 casts out of every major (named) dragon incantation, including Borealis' and Ekzykes'. That is because you can get a full second cast with just a sliver of FP left from the first cast. I haven't noticed much advantage in using the lesser versions of the incantations, since my FP gets emptied anyway. You can't use them on horse, but you can jump before using them, which sometimes is cool.
In his 'best weapon of each letter of the alphabet' video (or whatever it was called), the pike narrowly lost to the pickaxe, which got A tier. So I'd assume pike is also A tier, or high B at the very least.
The reason people reset frost with fire is because it also resets the number of hits required to frost. it resets the counter to as if the enemy has never been frozen.
After watching the bushy video, the unendurable frenzy placement is criminal, you can get a massive 40% dmg buff if you pair it with the jellyfish shield and its respective seal, you use the hidden cerulean tear and a build just upgrading poise and focus and you can legit one shot almost any boss
Started ER on Christmas. Accidentally found out how OP Dragonmaw was on my 1st playthrough. Finished Foreskin Duo first try. I'm still trembling from it. This is unfair. Turned my dex/faith build into faith/arcane.
There are 2 other weapons besides Sword of Night and Flame that scale off of Int/Fth Fire/Holy infused Clayman's Harpoon Magic infused Erdsteel Dagger And kind of in a roundabout sense, Tree spear (Really op when buffed with Scholar's Armament with Azul's Staff)
Surprised about Death Lightning. I found it pretty good and it carried me against Godfrey in a pure Lightning Damage run. It casts faster than ADLS, has a 360° radius so you don't have to worry about lackluster tracking like with Frozen Lightning and the damage massively outperforms Lightning Spear.
flame swing is one of the strongest faith spells , people should know this is just his preference. i have used this spell since the start and im on ng+3
is a solid tier list the only thing I don't agree with is swarm of flies in D yes after the nerf it does 0 damage but it chases enemies over a long distance and in combination with a weapon or other enchantment it causes bleeding very easily and because i chases enemies you can just move away and cast it a few times and it will have safe damage, it is not used as the main source of damage but on the other hand it complements an arcane build very well
The only proper use case for vykes dragonbolt isnt riding med-heavy rolls, but light-med rolls, that way the buff feels like it does more than "letting you play normally with a bit of extra armor on for a bit", i mean it only will add some distance to your roll, but at least that's an advantage and not just normal gameplay (i say normal because most players will go for that med roll) And imo the way to reset frost is near the end of the debuff, with a nuke
I’m pretty sure they recently buffed the swarm of flies, I’ve been using it with my bleed build and I cannot stress this enough, nothing procks bleed faster than that little spell there, 2 casts with 80 arc and the base faith and everything gets bleed. Obviously some weapons and ash of wars are better but you cannot go wrong with this spell, I tend to cast it twice before anyfight and 9/10 times my enemy or boss gets their first bleed proc as I begin my normal attack combos, and for any enemy who doesn’t get their bleed counter will ideally they it after the first two hits after casting the spell. As a spell to use by itself it is bad but in tandem with anything bleed it’s actually hella good.
Honestly I just can't be arsed to reapply buffs every 30 seconds I wish they just lasted until you died or had slow fp drain to last "infinite" amount of time, I like ashes of war that do dmg and apply element to weapon because you are still in combat with them, idk just feels goofy to always reapply buffs in boss fight, kills the flow of it.
Stone of Gurranq actually has extremely high range, you just have to lock off and throw at around 45 degrees and the stone never vanishes until hitting the ground. And what’s the hate on status alleviation? You can have all the protection you want. Two bad rolls while being ganked by basilisks or wormfaces and only that can save you from death blight. At least one alleviation inc for the area you’re in is a must have imo. Nice lists though
My only problem with Catch Flame is how close I have to be to the enemy. The entire point of being a caster is to fuck shit up before it can even get near me.
I still carry a a sword as a backup, the Miséricorde for either Golden Vow or Assassin's Gambit and a bow to give in to that sneak archer urge whenever I have a good vantage point. @@elrandohorse
Idk I don’t think that’s the entire point. That’s certainly one of the ways you can play a caster sure, but melee and mid range casting is my personal favourite and as such I don’t really use any of the projectiles other than lightning spear to kill things in precarious areas.
I love how everything in the game is mid unless boosted. No matter what level you’re never overpowered. I’m level 320 and still get killed if I’m not careful.
Yeah well that tends to happen when your levels have soft caps and also NG+ scaling is pretty crazy. I'm level 501 and literally the only difference between that and like a level 200 character is I have more fp, stamina, and I have more builds open to me. Only really benefits me when I want to try something new because I don't have to respec.
something that Honed Bolt has over other lightning incantations is that it won't miss even while clearly going through the target like all other lightning incantations, even ADLS, INFURIATINGLY does so. Seriously, it pisses me off so much to cast the spell and the lightning bolts just missing because the enemy was 1cm off where the bolt has exactly to hit. When they hit they're amazing, but a lot of times they just won't, and it even doesn't matter sometimes if the enemy is big, they will still miss, and even so it kinda sucks to me that most of the times they will just be good on big enemies. These spells are way too inconsistent for me to rely on them too much, but they're still good.
ADLS has a certain sweet spot to it in my experience, you have to find the perfect angle and distance to cast it but it takes practice and is still pretty RNG anyways
I suck at this game but I used Giantsflame take thee to bully Melania and defeat all the Night’s Cavalry. It’s also my go to when i panic. I think it should be a little higher.
I'd agree, maybe bump it just above Discus of Light. I get why it's not as good as Flame Fall Upon Them in most boss situations, but that knock back cc gives it some amazing utility in running through areas. Pest Threads as well deserves a little more credit for being your best physical damage incantation option that doesn't require arcane investment aside from Crucible Horns, which itself isn't always ideal since it can be risky to throw out. Plus, while availability wasn't brought up too much in this video, it is worth noting that it's your big enemy melter for most of the game since you only get access to Ancient Dragons' Lightning Strike in the last required legacy dungeon right before the end game starts.
Placidusax ruin is just a “what could have been spell”. Imagine if the head just turned faster, there was hyper armour, then it would be pretty decent. Of course if could be even cooler if it there was 2 heads incase

2:41 i feel like elden stars is a bit too low cause while it does suck at doing damage i found that it's main use is doing poise damage while qllowing you to fire it then follow it into battle, for example i found that this spell dominated mohg cause of how much it melted his poise
Giant Flame Take Thee should be at S tier, in the top 5, maybe in top 3. It is good charged and uncharged, do decent stance damage and it is the one that does most damage without having to get close to the enemy and charge for 3 hours like Ancient Lightning Strike

"Flame, Cleanse Me" should be top 5. It's the most useful incantation in the game for any generic build.

Black flame ritual invaluable if you're a caster and need a second of breathing space. It gives omens, haligtree knights and other super aggressive npcs a moment of pause
i just beat malenia for my first time last night after about 50 tries, so seeing her tossed in the air by aspect of the crucible horns was immensely satisfying for me lol
Flame cleanse me also removes frostbite due to the self fire damage which is just a neat design. Doesn't move it higher though

Surge o flame is basically 1 fp for every flame partical it shoots.
I WISH... 'Dragon Claw' was cheaper but did less damage. I want a 'Catch Flame' for pure dragon incants. Even with the FP cost buff its still expensive. While it hits like a truck there isn't enough of a difference between it and Dragon Maw for it to have the specs it has.

I don't think Elden Stars was truly designed to be a damaging move in the traditional sense. The health damage it does is minimal but the poise damage it can do is really great. Been using it with my current build which focuses on poise damage and if I can get it off at the start of a boss fight, mix it with some of the other poise-damaging moves I have and the bosses are usually on their knees pretty quickly and ready for a riposte.

250 hrs played and I never thought to try and spell parry my own rebounding spell. Thats sick as hell.
I kinda have the impression that the low damage incantations at the bottom do low damage because it is spread out over many individual hits and defenses get applied to each one of them.
So instead of 300 reduced by flat 20 you have 30 reduced by flat 20, i.e. 10, multiplied by 10. Something like that.
And in higher NG+ the defenses are really cranked up.
ive found a single use for law of causality and its in my ranged builds whenever i am going into an area where i know there are ambush dogs/rats/imps etc, often they manage to surround and stun lock you to death (i am a pretty newish player) so this delayed shockwave helps get them off and gives me space to figure out a way to fight them

Well, at 20 mind (can't remember if it's at 20 or 20+5 with Godrick's rune) you get 2 casts out of every major (named) dragon incantation, including Borealis' and Ekzykes'. That is because you can get a full second cast with just a sliver of FP left from the first cast. I haven't noticed much advantage in using the lesser versions of the incantations, since my FP gets emptied anyway. You can't use them on horse, but you can jump before using them, which sometimes is cool.
Damn I had no idea that Theo's Magma does such insane damage. Killing Radagon with it in 2 hits is hilarious

In his 'best weapon of each letter of the alphabet' video (or whatever it was called), the pike narrowly lost to the pickaxe, which got A tier. So I'd assume pike is also A tier, or high B at the very least.

The reason people reset frost with fire is because it also resets the number of hits required to frost. it resets the counter to as if the enemy has never been frozen.
After watching the bushy video, the unendurable frenzy placement is criminal, you can get a massive 40% dmg buff if you pair it with the jellyfish shield and its respective seal, you use the hidden cerulean tear and a build just upgrading poise and focus and you can legit one shot almost any boss

Started ER on Christmas. Accidentally found out how OP Dragonmaw was on my 1st playthrough. Finished Foreskin Duo first try. I'm still trembling from it. This is unfair. Turned my dex/faith build into faith/arcane.

Fire/Holy infused Clayman's Harpoon
Magic infused Erdsteel Dagger
And kind of in a roundabout sense, Tree spear (Really op when buffed with Scholar's Armament with Azul's Staff)
Surprised about Death Lightning. I found it pretty good and it carried me against Godfrey in a pure Lightning Damage run. It casts faster than ADLS, has a 360° radius so you don't have to worry about lackluster tracking like with Frozen Lightning and the damage massively outperforms Lightning Spear.
flame swing is one of the strongest faith spells , people should know this is just his preference. i have used this spell since the start and im on ng+3

is a solid tier list the only thing I don't agree with is swarm of flies in D yes after the nerf it does 0 damage but it chases enemies over a long distance and in combination with a weapon or other enchantment it causes bleeding very easily and because i chases enemies you can just move away and cast it a few times and it will have safe damage, it is not used as the main source of damage but on the other hand it complements an arcane build very well
The only proper use case for vykes dragonbolt isnt riding med-heavy rolls, but light-med rolls, that way the buff feels like it does more than "letting you play normally with a bit of extra armor on for a bit", i mean it only will add some distance to your roll, but at least that's an advantage and not just normal gameplay (i say normal because most players will go for that med roll)
And imo the way to reset frost is near the end of the debuff, with a nuke
I’m pretty sure they recently buffed the swarm of flies, I’ve been using it with my bleed build and I cannot stress this enough, nothing procks bleed faster than that little spell there, 2 casts with 80 arc and the base faith and everything gets bleed. Obviously some weapons and ash of wars are better but you cannot go wrong with this spell, I tend to cast it twice before anyfight and 9/10 times my enemy or boss gets their first bleed proc as I begin my normal attack combos, and for any enemy who doesn’t get their bleed counter will ideally they it after the first two hits after casting the spell. As a spell to use by itself it is bad but in tandem with anything bleed it’s actually hella good.

Honestly I just can't be arsed to reapply buffs every 30 seconds I wish they just lasted until you died or had slow fp drain to last "infinite" amount of time, I like ashes of war that do dmg and apply element to weapon because you are still in combat with them, idk just feels goofy to always reapply buffs in boss fight, kills the flow of it.
Stone of Gurranq actually has extremely high range, you just have to lock off and throw at around 45 degrees and the stone never vanishes until hitting the ground.
And what’s the hate on status alleviation? You can have all the protection you want. Two bad rolls while being ganked by basilisks or wormfaces and only that can save you from death blight. At least one alleviation inc for the area you’re in is a must have imo. Nice lists though

My only problem with Catch Flame is how close I have to be to the enemy. The entire point of being a caster is to fuck shit up before it can even get near me.
Depends on how you build with it. You could have high defense and poise and use close ranged spells.

I still carry a a sword as a backup, the Miséricorde for either Golden Vow or Assassin's Gambit and a bow to give in to that sneak archer urge whenever I have a good vantage point. @@elrandohorse
Idk I don’t think that’s the entire point. That’s certainly one of the ways you can play a caster sure, but melee and mid range casting is my personal favourite and as such I don’t really use any of the projectiles other than lightning spear to kill things in precarious areas.
I love how everything in the game is mid unless boosted. No matter what level you’re never overpowered. I’m level 320 and still get killed if I’m not careful.
Yeah well that tends to happen when your levels have soft caps and also NG+ scaling is pretty crazy. I'm level 501 and literally the only difference between that and like a level 200 character is I have more fp, stamina, and I have more builds open to me. Only really benefits me when I want to try something new because I don't have to respec.
I understand why insescapable frenzy is so low on the list, but it's so goddamn fun to bully Gideon and the Mimic Tears with it.

something that Honed Bolt has over other lightning incantations is that it won't miss even while clearly going through the target like all other lightning incantations, even ADLS, INFURIATINGLY does so. Seriously, it pisses me off so much to cast the spell and the lightning bolts just missing because the enemy was 1cm off where the bolt has exactly to hit. When they hit they're amazing, but a lot of times they just won't, and it even doesn't matter sometimes if the enemy is big, they will still miss, and even so it kinda sucks to me that most of the times they will just be good on big enemies. These spells are way too inconsistent for me to rely on them too much, but they're still good.
ADLS has a certain sweet spot to it in my experience, you have to find the perfect angle and distance to cast it but it takes practice and is still pretty RNG anyways
I suck at this game but I used Giantsflame take thee to bully Melania and defeat all the Night’s Cavalry. It’s also my go to when i panic. I think it should be a little higher.
I'd agree, maybe bump it just above Discus of Light. I get why it's not as good as Flame Fall Upon Them in most boss situations, but that knock back cc gives it some amazing utility in running through areas. Pest Threads as well deserves a little more credit for being your best physical damage incantation option that doesn't require arcane investment aside from Crucible Horns, which itself isn't always ideal since it can be risky to throw out. Plus, while availability wasn't brought up too much in this video, it is worth noting that it's your big enemy melter for most of the game since you only get access to Ancient Dragons' Lightning Strike in the last required legacy dungeon right before the end game starts.
Burn o flame just anihilates malenia way better than giantsflame. just make her back up into a corner and enjoy the free runes.
Placidusax ruin is just a “what could have been spell”. Imagine if the head just turned faster, there was hyper armour, then it would be pretty decent.

2:41 i feel like elden stars is a bit too low cause while it does suck at doing damage i found that it's main use is doing poise damage while qllowing you to fire it then follow it into battle, for example i found that this spell dominated mohg cause of how much it melted his poise
Giant Flame Take Thee should be at S tier, in the top 5, maybe in top 3. It is good charged and uncharged, do decent stance damage and it is the one that does most damage without having to get close to the enemy and charge for 3 hours like Ancient Lightning Strike
