- Back to the Future Part II is a 1989 American science fiction film directed by Robert Zemeckis from a screenplay by Bob Gale; both wrote the story. It is a sequel to the 1985 film Back to the Future and the second installment in the Back to the Future franchise. The film stars Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thompson and Thomas F. Wilson with Elisabeth Shue (replacing Claudia Wells), and Jeffrey Weissman (replacing Crispin Glover) in supporting roles. It follows Marty McFly (Fox) and his friend Dr. Emmett "Doc" Brown (Lloyd) as they travel from 1985 to 2015 to prevent Marty's son from sabotaging the McFly family's future. When their arch-nemesis Biff Tannen (Wilson) steals Doc's DeLorean time machine and uses it to alter history for his benefit, the duo must return to 1955 to restore the timeline.

Great timing Amelia. Nov. 5, 1955, Doc Brown designed the flux capacitor.
Everyone was doing V for Vendetta today. I'm just happy a few people didn't jump on the bandwagon.
"Remember remember the fifth of November."
Glad you loved it cause it was a blast to work on...AS YOU CAN SEE FROM MY PROFILE PIC LOL!
such a great actor micheal J fox. i remember seeing him on talk show- kimmel with doc as the rode the delorean on stage, and even with parkinsons, when he spoke he was instantly marty again. same voice , inflections
Back to the Future is the only movie trilogy where I’m tense at all the same parts every time even though I know how everything turns out after 50+ watches. No other movie makes me feel that way.
On TV though, nothing does that as well as Breaking Bad!
Yep. Same here.
I love this movie so much. I was 18 when this came out and it is by far my favorite of all three movies. The adventure, all the twists and turns, the thrills, all accompanied by Alan Silvestri's amazing score. One of my favorite parts is seeing George lay Biff out. That never gets old.
There was a funny moment when Marty had his hand jammed in between Strickland's desk and chair. Marty was trying not to scream, while at the same time, Amelia had her hand over her mouth, looking like she was trying to muffle a scream.
Kids in '80's must've looked like this -->👁️👄👁️ during the Hoverboard chase sequence scene. 😂🤣😂🤣
We did and not only that, but Robert Zemeckis made a Behind the Scenes feature where he said that hover boards were actually _real_ and that parent groups had lobbied to get them banned, but he managed to get hold of some for the movie.
I think 2 is my favorite one because of how clever it is how they are fitting this story around and behind and above some of the scenes from the first movie. It's fun and intelligent and very well done.
The guy who told Marty about the Cubbies was Charles Fleischer. The guy who voiced Roger Rabbitt.
He also plays the mechanic in 1955
And the creepy guy with the cellar in Zodiac.
9:25 - The video waiters are a parody of the character Max Headroom. Max was a supposedly computer animated spokesman for Pepsi who later got his own show. In reality, it was actor Matt Frewer in a latex costume in front of a simulated computer background.
13:04 - "We do have those." - People have built actual, working hoverboards, however they only work over metal surfaces. They're also quite loud, and basically impossible to control, since there's no friction, and they just go where they want. It's like trying to ice skate with blocks of ice on your feet.
Or like air hockey, except you're the hockey puck! 😆
Ah little Elijah Wood at the shooting video game
For the record, no, the writers didn't really think that's what 2015 would be like. They noticed how other stories that take place in the semi-near future get things so laughably wrong. So they decided to go all out and have fun with it.
15:48 "I'm walking here, I'm walking here!" A reference to a Dustin Hoffman scene in Midnight Cowboy from 1969.
When Amelia keeps saying it reminds her of Rick and Morty that way, I can't tell if she knows Rick and Morty took from it intentionally/this was the model or not!
I know now!!! I had to go back to rewatch Rick & Morty after I finished recording all 3 parts of BTTF to compare!
The dad with the baseball bat in 1985A was one of the Jive Guys from Airplane!
this one is amazing this might be my favorite trilogy of all time so I love seeing how much you love it! I can't WAIT for you to see Part III. There are some fun facts about this one. This movie was filmed back-to-back with Part III. If you notice they replaced the actress who played Jennifer Parker, Claudia Wells in the original Back to the future, but had to pull out of appearing in Part II after her mother was diagnosed with cancer.
Elizabeth Shue was cast in the role instead and even re-shot the final scene of the first film, so it could be ‘replayed’ at the beginning of the second.
This was Elijah Wood in his very first film role, Wood’s role, as an awed child by the arcade cabinet playing that game with pistols, Crispin Glover who portrais Mcfly Sr in the first one did not apper on this one. According to Glover, he discovered that he was offered far less to reprise his role in any given sequel than Lea Thompson for a similarly sized role, Glover’s agents demanded a higher fee and script approval, and Bob Gale responded by offering even less money than before. As a result, Glover pulled out of the sequel as was replaced by Jeffrey Weissman in heavy prosthetics. This is partly why George McFly is almost always shot in the dark, from behind, or upside-down.
One of the more memorable gags about the future occurs when Marty is assailed by a holographic shark outside the cinema (or ‘Holomax’). The Jaws films, in spite of the critically panned Jaws 3-D and Jaws 4, are still going strong in the fictional 2015, marking the nineteenth entry in the franchise. Jaws 19 is directed by Max Spielberg, son of the legendary director. Max was born in June 1985, the ‘present’ era of the trilogy.
Actors playing themselves is nothing new - and it wasn’t new in 1989, either. However, this was mostly achieved with clever camerawork and body doubles. Back to the Future Part II broke the mould by using a VFX trick that allowed the same actor to feature twice in the same frame: the ‘Vista Glide.’ As usual, necessity is the mother of invention. Given the number of times characters interact with their past selves, or alternate future selves, or narrowly avoid continuum-obliterating paradoxes, exactly this technique was needed.
There are a genuine stunt injury in this film in the hoverboard chase. Due to a technical difficulty with the wires suspending the actors, Cheryl Wheeler-Duncan - the stunt double for Darlene Vogel’s Spike veers off-course and slams into the concrete pillar next to the glass. Ouch! She then falls 30 feet on to the concrete below. Evidently Zemeckis saw a silver lining in this on-set mishap, as that take is the one we see in the film. Keep up the good work.
this IS mine. they batted each movie out of the park. such a great actor michael ,j, fox.
My understanding is that making Weissman look like Glover caused Glover to take the production to court in one of the earliest cases arguing that an entertainer owns all rights to their own likeness. It's even more relevant case law today, with video fakes getting better and better.
Nice reaction, glad you're having fun with this terrific GOAT trilogy. Especially loved your "deep doo doo" pun!
Btw, Biff couldn't hear Marty in the back of his car talking to Doc because of (a) the radio playing, (b) Marty projecting his voice away from Biff, and especially (c) due to the loud wind noise you get when riding in a convertable with the top down. Not a big criticism ... almost all reactors wonder about Biff not hearing Marty without figuring this out.LOL
There's an article in the newspaper mentioning Doc being committed which reads "Nixon to Seek Fifth Term, Vows End to Vietnam War by 1985". This was all Biff's doing, as revealed in the Biff to the Future comic book series.
i love the laserdisks in the back, they were big when the movie came out, didnt last long , replaced by dvds
Dude they lasted for *ages*!! Until they could finally shrink 'em down to CD size. 1978 to DVD coming out in 1996 is FOREVER, especially in consumer electronics. And they only stopped releasing discs in 2001. There were over 10 thousand titles. Not bad for an understandably niche market. And many of the things on DVD like multiple audio tracks, frame archives perfect still frame digital audio and branching all came from LD. And many of the extras and making ofs/box set features in the early days of DVD were swiped directly from the laserdisc sets! I think you just heard about 'em. You sure don't seem to know about 'em!
This reactor has an amazing memory
In a deleted scene, when old future Biff takes the Delorean back to 2015 and gets out, he starts to disappear. That version of him no longer existed because of the changes he made. I wish they left that in, because seeing him just come out and appear to have a heart attack, and then we don't see him again, was strange. On the other hand, if we did see him disappear, I suppose they thought they didn't want to give away too soon the fact that changes occurred.
@46:47 "Are those bags of flour?" 😂
They were sandbags right lol
I’m glad you enjoyed Part II, I saw each of “Back to the Future” films on their opening day (the 1st on July 3, 1985 when I was 21 years old, the 2nd on Thanksgiving Day 1989 when I was 26, yes the 35th anniversary of it’s release is coming up later this month, and I do have to admit I can’t remember the exact date in the summer of 1990 for the 3rd, when I was also still 26, I know you’ll love the 3rd film and I love your enthusiasm and commentary it makes me feel young again, @ a time when I so need that with me needing later this week a kidney biopsy).
Funny thing is, this movie was only a year off on calling Cubs winning the World Series, 2016.
Isn't that funny.
the glitching screens of reagan and ayatollah referenced a show that had a cult like follwing called max headroom, was a pretty good show
We did get those shoes in 2015, it's just that even in 2024 their too expensive. That's if you can find any for sale.
My idea for a Backtothefuture sequel trilogy is as follows: It is fourty years since the events in the three movies.
DocBrown's house have been abadonned for
fourty years and is in a shabby state.Three youths who live nearby goes there to clean up the place and make it ready for a sale.
While they are cleaning the house they find the scematics for the delorean and how the fluxcapasator makes timetravels possible.
They also find a video which shows one of the youths mother(possible Jennifer Parker)and she looks totally different than she looks today.
the youths also sees DocBrown holding a newspaper where Biff has the Grey's sport allmanac in his pocket from 1955.
They decide to build a new Delorean from DocBrown's scematics.
When they are finnished they decide to bring the Grey's sport allmanac(which is in common sale in 2022) with them.
They goes back to 1955 and knows allready that MartyMcFly detained JenniferParkers father when he took the caseboard apart in the first movie to use it as
a regular board. The youths prevent this from happening by giving MartyMcFly another board to stand on while flying away from Biff.
They also gives their fathers the Grey's sport allmanac.
When they comes home they all live in wealth and luxury
and JenniferParker looks like she looked in the first movie(played by ClaudiaWells or a lookalike)and it gives a happy ending to the first movie xD
In the second movie three neighbours to the first movies aganoists who are envious discover videos that show everything was different just a few days
ago. They start stalking the three youths and finds out about the Delorean timemachine. They also finds out about the Grey's sport allmanac. They decide
to steal both the delorean and bring with them the Grey's sport allmanac. In 1955 they gives the Grey's sport allmanac to their grandparents. They then
goes home to a life in wealth and luxury.
In the third and last movie, our three antagonists suddenly wakes up and see everything has changed around them. They see the three
neighbour youth now living in wealth and luxury and suspect that they has stolen the delorean and gone back to 1955.
They decide to go back themselves and change the events that the three neighbours have caused.
But there they meet a young DocBrown that warns them about making any more changes. He tells them he was contacted by his future
selves and that he told him to warn eventual other timetravellers.
But they changes Things anyway, and that makes a cliffhanger for more Backtothefuture sequels or prequels ?
15:05 I love how they were only a year off - The Cubs won the World Series in 2016.
Also what’s sort of crazy is that the two teams in the 2015 World Series were the Kansas City Royals and the New York Mets who won the World Series in 1985 and 1986 respectively but for the same team to win in 85 and 15 is a little nuts in of itself and then yes the Cubs in the following year like the Mets won in 86.
That detailed comment made you even sexier and hotter than you already are! 🔥
"Are those bags of flour?" No, they're sand -- used to balance against the weight of the "flys" (the scenery backdrops) to make them easier to pull up and down.
A lot of people miss the fact that Biff is an auto detailer. Probably saw that it was very lucrative after getting manure removed from his car multiple times.
Hi Mia 👋 love ur reactions to the 2 movies 🎥 classics
Baby Elijah Wood. Mr. Frodo Baggins is the kid standing next to the arcade machine in the Cafe 80's scene.
I hope someone told you that Rick and Morty is based on Doc and Marty. Can't wait for you to see Part III!!!
I’ve started re-watching Rick & Morty to compare now that I know that they were based on Doc & Marty!
7:04 Why would they leave a unconscious girl alone in a dark alley ? It's just as much Doc's fault as well as Marty's.
Yeah I've always said there's absolutely no reason besides "plot!" for Doc and Marty to take her out of the car and place her in an alley unattended 😂
Chris Lloyd's comedic sensibilities are fucking INCREDIBLE. The more I watch the trilogy, the more I appreciate how fucking incredible he was in it.
The writing's great too, of course; Doc is such a great straight man to Marty: "You won't believe it; we've got to go back to 1955!"
"I don't believe it!"
Love those trulys!!!! Lol back 2 the future has to be one of the best trilogies ❤❤ .. so funny
Great reaction Mia u were on the edge of the seat. This back to the future is my fav. Sad u didnt notice the Elijah Wood cameo thought Big thumbs up
Great reaction! Looking forward to part 3.
2:47 Actress Claudia Wells who played Marty's girlfriend Jennifer swapped-out for Pt.2 - who didn't notice ?
Excellent reaction. This is a great trilogy you I just realized I’ve seen this movie hundreds of times but I just realized the first time George hit in the parking lot. You think it’s just for to make his life better against his bully. That’s a nice thing but it’s even more important than that Because that’s how Marty gives the book back the third time. When Jordan knocked him out. He gets the book back from Biff cause we didn’t fall with the chicken thing that will be at your home than there but he does and that’s when he lost the book again. Couldn’t get the part three one for the chicken thing so can’t wait to watch part three with you it’s really great. Thanks for the fun until next time.
Not only were they only one year out with the prediction of a Cubs win, but they also predicted Miami would have a team by then, which I don't think they did at the time they filmed this.
This was a great reaction. I've seen scores of reactions for this trilogy and many other movies, but many reactors try too hard and yap too much. I had a ball just watching her facial expressions of all the emotions. I don't know her name, but she is an awesome reactor.
When Griffs goons hit the tower, you can see the female goon hit a pillar. This was actually a terrible accident in which the stunt woman was severely injured. She ended up suing the production.
@@michaeljacyna1973 yup. She was supposed to go through the window like everyone else, there was padding on the ground inside for everyone to land on. Instead she landed on the concrete outside with no padding.
@@vfplayerI don't blame her for suing, but those are the risks that stunt people take. Not every stunt can be 100% foolproof.
Hopefully, the company had money set aside for sun inevitabilities.
Seeing this in 1989 was appropriate for a futuristic movie. We weren't just looking curious about 30 years later but also the 1990s.
The flying cars didn't really faze me but other details like the Hydrator felt realistically around the corner. Robert Zemeckis joked that hoverboards were real but kept out of production by "parents groups," and he seemed serious. I felt like just a few decisions could put those in stores. Instead, we got those wheeled things being called "hoverboards."
The character "Needles" is played by: the bass player from The Red Hot Chili Peppers: Flea. 🤘🤘
Glad I'm not the only one who gets the Pink Panther theme in my head whenever some sleuthing happens. The time travel conundrums are always a fun thought. Red Dwarf, a British sci-fi sitcom, does a great episode where they need to convince JFK to shoot himself from the grassy knoll to fix the space-time continuum they screwed up.
so they should have left the end of the scene where biff was exiting the car, though ti was a heart attack but in a deleted scene he actually disappears like marty in the first
1. It's not often sequels hold up to the original, but this does. Thank you 1980s.
2. IMVHO this one is the best of the trifecta. The next one is inventive but I'm not really into the story. That said, it is the perfect wrap.🤩🤩🤩
3. The stunt woman that flew into the glass window partially missed and injured her arm.
4. Yes, Michael J. Fox is playing Marty's daughter.
5. Sammy Hagar, "I can't drive 55"
6. Fun fact: Doc's rushing back and forth are to make it easier to film with the height differential between him and Marty.🧐
7. The tunnel at the end is the same one they used for Tune Town in "Who Framed Roger Rabbit"
Marty's coat talks like a "Speak'n'Spell"...
I think that was Frodo Baggins by the arcade machine 11:05
Crappy situation…deep doodoo, I chucked 😂
Amelia, let's not be a spoiler, but I just want to add intrigue to the 3rd part of this wonderful trilogy in advance, just add that in it the main story arc will be given to the doc. And what it will be, I hinted with a phrase from Doc Brown in part 2, when he was thinking aloud about his new scientific research after his planned destruction of the Time Machine). I hope you will enjoy the completion of this trilogy as much as the previous parts!
Part 3 is in the bag! Will be premiering next week! 😁
Miami Marlins didn't start playing until '93, which is a few years before this movie hit the theaters.
Your reactions are awesome 😊
At 10:58 a young Elijah Wood is playing the Wild Gunman arcade
Power laces came out in 2016 in the Nike HyperAdapt 1.0
Awesome reaction 👍
I contend that the events in these films would've turned out much better if Needles had been the bassist for The Pinheads.
Haha!! Shout out to Flea! ✌
Interesting idea. And I agree. Shame that when they made the first movie they couldn't see the future success of it leading to the sequels.
Perfect reaction. Thanks.
And then Biff ran for president
And made America Buttheads again
Until the success of the first movie, the had been no thoughts of even one sequel. The first movie's cliffhanger was pure a happy accident.
11:06 Elijah Wood 15:00 Crazy how they won in 2016 close enough 33:47 51:21 😂
14:20 In the scene where Griff's gang crashes through the Clock Tower Window, the Stunt Woman in the gang actually crashed into the killer and fell to the concrete below. In a Blink and you'll miss it, you can see her hit the ground through the window. She actually got hurt really bad in tha5 scene.
She sued and settled, but continued to work as a stunt woman. Even crazier.... I recently learned she was killed in a shootout involving her ex husband just a couple years ago😮
I hadn't heard that.

Mia, tnx for reacting to BTTF 2, looking forward to BTTF 3 reaction 😇
You will love it,and nobody calls me chicken.
Well... we have ' Hover Boards ' with a Mono wheel as least ...., lol
Fun fact - co-writer Bob Gale said in an interview that they based the Biff Tannen character on Donald Trump. Because he's been like that for decades.
No clue who this reactor girl is but my god...prettiest smile ive seen all year on a woman

Yeah Doc reminds you of Rick because R&M is heavily inspired by BTTF.
I love the first one because it is so tightly plotted, so well made, so much world and charcater building went into it. It is the best BttF.
I love this one because things get so complicated. There are multiple times and different timelines within some of those times. Not to mention Marty having to cross his own timeline.
And I love BttF3 because, well that would be spoiler territory. But it is great and some people like it the most of all. I love them in order of release, first to last.
the tv- or we can watch multiple screens on a monitor
Exciting was it?! Now you gotta see PART 3!!!
i went to the release in 89 i loved the pinball game
i miss the 80s alot

Hi! Great reaction! Did you notuce Frodo? Elijah Wood?
Did u not notice marty's daughter? She/he is played by Michael J Fox so he plays his 1985 self, 2015 self, his son and his daughter
The CGI wait staff in the Cafe 80's tends to be confusing to anyone who was born after 1985. If that's you, look up "Max Headroom." But you might still be confused. It was a pretty lame bit.
You will love Part III.

@@Josh-GT it is what it is.
@@Josh-GTI just hope she doesn't develop a complex.😊
Weird that this has dropped on the US election day in which one of the main protagonists was the basis for Biff in this film
It's WILD that in the '80s EVERYBODY knew trump was a villain. But because he's been so openly a Nazi traitor (and rapist/incestuous pedophile) now, he's running for President and hasn't been forced to drop out.
Man, politics were never good, but holy fuck.
Alternate timeline Biff. Let's hope the orange sh*t stain remains in an alternate timeline and not ours.
Biff Derangement Syndrome.. 😂
For those who actually want to know how it works... In Back to the Future, changing the timeline is not instantaneous - the larger the gap of time that has to change, the longer it will take.
In most time-travel stories, as soon as a change is made in the past, the entire timeline of events that followed it is completely erased and replaced with the new eventuality. But that's clearly not how it works in Back to the Future; because if it was, then the moment that Marty pushed his father out of the way of his grandfather's car, thus preventing his parents' first meeting and eventual relationship, Marty would've disappeared almost immediately.
No, the way that Back to the Future works, is that time itself is a tangible thing that actually exists; and therefore, it can't just disappear and be replaced instantly. The timeline has to be rewritten: gradually and the longer the gap of time, the longer it's going to take. In Back to the Future, the reason that Marty is the last of the children to be erased, when logically he should've been the first, is because, the new timeline continuity started by Marty's interference, was gradually rewriting the future histories of George and Lorraine, overwriting both Dave's and Linda's existence, before working it's way to Marty.
In 2015, when Marty takes Marty Jr's place in the meeting with Griff, Doc has tomorrow's newspaper handy. When the Hoverboarding incident occurs that lands Griff and his gang in Jail, the change was instantaneous, because that paper was only one day away.
Now, when 2015 Biff goes back in time to give his 1955 counterpart the Almanac, that is literally 60 years worth of history that has to be rewritten. He had ample time to return to his future in 2015, because the overwriting timeline hadn't reached that far yet. But it had reached 1985 by the time Doc, Marty, Jennifer and Einstein went back.
In fact, this is proven thanks to deleted scenes from the movie. See when Old Biff gets back to 2015, he starts acting weak and collapses behind a dumpster in pain. Most people assume this is because he accidentally broke off the top of his cane in the Delorean, and then struck himself in the stomach with it. But a deleted scene proves otherwise; Biff is in-pain, because he's being erased from existence, like Marty was in the first movie. As the Delorean flies back to 1985, the scene shows 2015 Biff fading away. He disappears because, despite his future where he is wealthy and corrupt, he never makes it to 2015 in the new timeline.
This would later be revealed why, as it was originally planned that in the Alternate 1985, when Biff corners Marty on the roof, Lorraine was supposed to appear and shoot Biff, killing him, to protect her son. (I honestly kind of wish they'd kept that.)
But you see my point - in Back to the Future, the timeline doesn't get "deleted" nor does it get rewritten backwards. Time can only move in one-direction, so therefore, it gradually writes over itself whenever a sequence of events is changed. It explains everything in how Back to the Future works... I'm not saying that this is perfect, because the movie has to take some licenses with it. For example, the book of matches that Marty took from Biff's Tower, the Newspapers both Marty and Doc had from the Alternate 1985, and the Fax that Jennifer took from 2015. In these instances, whenever the timeline is changed, the aforementioned objects change instantly - Biff Co becomes Biff Auto Detailing; George McFly's Murder changed to his Honorarium, Doc being Committed to him being Commended, and Marty's firing being completely erased. We'll have to chalk that up to the movie wanting to have a visual confirmation that the future had been changed. But as for everything else, the logic is sound. Resuming this is a Ripple Effect. SORRY FOR THE LONG POST.
Great post and explanation. I think in the case of the matchbook, newspapers, etc were changed instantly, is because they are inanimate objects that have no real effect on the timeline/nature of things. A human being, molded by time and influencing that universe every single day for decades is a bit more "interwoven" and when its re-written/unravelled, it just takes longer. I never knew about the deleted scene og old man Biff fading away. That would have been a good shot to leave in
@@pitchblackwarwolf1 Thanks, about the deleted scenes you can watch them here on YT, just search Back to the future deleted scenes.
Doc also mentions the ripple in this movie. I noticed is while I was watching, but don't recall well enough to give a time stamp...
"I have to borrow your...hoverboard."
"We do have those."
No. No we most definitely do not.
"Granted that's a worst case scenario. The destruction might in fact be very localised. Limited to our own galaxy."
"Well that's a relief."
Well, when $300 could fix a car.
Cool fact for 2015 special edition they actually made a movie trailer for Jaws 19. It's on UA-cam and is funny
Their future is Exaggerated 80's with a Sci-Fi effect (some are also supposed to be funny)
It would be like trying to imagine 30 years from now which would be the *2050's*
Had Biff killed Marty in the tunnel, what would have happened to the Hoverboard? No doubt Biff would've just noticed it and left it and police would've been curious about it.
Been recovered by Cyberdyne and reverse engineered by Miles Dyson....leading to the invention of the Hoverboard.
Reaction channels don't need teasers it ruins the build up to parts often teased
It's not like a movie trailer trying to entice you to watch
Sorry you were not satisfied. Perhaps you can ask for a refund.
Michael J Fox in drag was hilarious.
Back to the Future Part III is my favorite of the three, and I bet it will be your favorite one also.
i really love this movie. but i just cant get passed the plothole of Biff not only knowing how to use the time machine just by finding out it exists, but that he knew that it needs nuclear refueling after each trip. the second is Biff returning to his own timeline after altering the past. but that part i heard argued that the DeLorean had to return to its original timeline bc in the new timeline it wouldnt even exist. so the movie couldve ended after Biff made himself rich.
The refueling part.... the car has "Mr Fusion" which now powers the time circuits. It's not unbelievable that if this was a real product one could purchase, Biff would've figured out he needed to put some random garbage in it being that it's sticking out of the car.
@michaeljacyna1973 that one slipped by me.
didnt think id like 2 but love dit more lol
