You can stack up to 5 semi solids onto one spot. This can let you mix colors (that's how I got the orange one), or you can just put the same color onto the same spot to make it darker and less transparent.
To my surprise lots of people know that you can do this in SMM2 as well, especially the star trick. And to answer your question; I've played NSMBWii, I just never owned it myself because i never had a Wii :p

Great video, didn't like that each trick was displayed as an entire level with ending sequence. Much prefer a sandbox style world with open demonstrations. Your content is always awesome no matter what though
