@Henry G like I care who won or lost dummy. It's just business and the people of afghanistan will suffer. They did this in the early 2000s and we invaded shortly after.
Also oxycodone, hydrocodone and morphine are derived from the opium plant. The majority of pharmaceutical opium is actually grown in Tasmania. The farmer who grows the most receives a brand new Mercedes. I kid you not
@@RealismAndHonor fun fact. As opium flooded into the illicit market from Afghanistan, it made its way into the legal market. The higher supply decreased the price. Drug companies took the boon and spent more money into advertising pain pills.
This initiative needs to be paired w giving the farmers some means to grow a crop that can not only make them money but also supply the country's domestic food needs. Win-win situation
So many years ago when the US invaded the country, I saw some people make the observation that even though we're supposed to be in this "war on drugs", we didn't bomb a single poppy field. This was because we didn't want to anger the opium warlords of the country. The fact that the Taliban is taking this on really surprises me. I'd think they got a lot of their money from these warlords, after all.
No, our Taliban never got money from these warlords. Taliban first came into being to fight the atrocities of these same warlords who were US & NATO allies on our people. Under the first Emirate Islami poppy production was eradicated completely which was why the US foreign invader terrorists planned the 9/11 false flag attack and invaded Afghanistan. Yes, many of these warlords and other leaders from the US& NATO puppets regime were drug dealers, like Fauwzia Koofi and her family and others. Your US marines and NATO foreign invader terrorists use to guard the poppy fields and they would blame our Taliban for flooding the markets with opium when it was them, along withtheir Afghan allies
I've never seen so many mistakes in one comment. The war on drugs was a domestic US issue in the 80s. America invaded Afghanistan as part of the war on terror, not on drugs. The opium trade provides livelihood to a great number of afghans who have no alternative, so it was considered best to not upset that particular apple cart as it would have made the Americans even more unpopular. The Taliban weren't always against growing poppies, they actually used to encourage it when they first came into power in the mid-90s because it was a source of income for the nation, despite the obvious contradiction with Islamic law
Oh no Helen, we did at the begining we went after the Poppy fields but the farmers would just move. Same thing will happen here you will see. A lot of villages in Afghanistan need the money badly.
Probably they go to individuals fields the ones that didn’t make a connections , talibans probably by now have half of the country growing for them how do u think they will survive.

I spent more than three and half years working in Afghanistan between 2001 and 2008. One project I worked on was in Nangahar called CRAWLS in 2001. It was funded by US INL, Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs. Our job was to offer villagers options to growing poppy which included schools, irrigation systems, clinics, roads and the like. I used to say to the villagers, If I give you an irrigation system, you can't use it to grow poppy in some vague hope they might comply. They didn't of course. It is interesting however, for all that is wrong with the Talibs, they are effective in eliminating the opium production and the west should do whatever it can to support that. One US option that floated around at the time was dropping agent orange up a couple of valleys. The Talibs need proper whipper snippers or tractors with mowers to complete the job on the opium and also the hashish that they grow in rotation..
It sounds harsh but when you think about the greater good it's very effective in eliminating crime on large scale. I'm in Canada and I just saw someone stealing just as if he's buying coffeee. Crime in Canada is crazy.

When other countries see the Taliban taking positive action to eradicate poppy production they will receive aid packages & financial assistance to help Afghanistan rebuild the economy & secure a bright future for its citizens.
Supporting Taliban owned country is a political suicide, the farmers families will starve and more junkies will die from synthetics around the world. Big pharma will gain monopoly on morphinan drugs. Heroin used to be the fucked up drug of the poor, now it will be for the rich while the poor will die in even bigger numbers from nitazenes and fentanyl. One might be surprised that natural opium could compete with the newest synthetic opiates (?!?)
the problem with synthetic stuff is that you don't actually know what is put into them, and here you get what you see
These are organic opiates so school run mums in their landrovers will pay double

Lmao it wasn't about "not angering" it was because the US was taking the opium.

Nothing is wrong with hash
It's crazy that the official Afghan government was so weak and unable to enforce its laws, while Taliban can. Their governance capacity is stronger
