yup I printed off some replacement legs for my gaming laptop which have raised it 20mm made a bit of a difference, but throttlestop was the biggest improvement, it seems a lot of manufacturers overvolt the cpu's by default
Perfect! i try to tell our customers this that the modern 12th gen i7 is too close to the 12th gen i5, with the thermal limit no difference. After a few years for heavy gamers we see the thermal paste can limit the performance heavily.
My Dell G15 with Ryzen 7 behaves the same, however, in windows 10 cpu settings, i disable the turbo clock, and instead go to 4.7ghz, mantain in 3.6/ 3.8 and the temperature do not reach above 70º. Is better this way. If the turbo is enable, is rare to mantain the max clock, and stay on 4ghz or less on 95º...
I have a Helios neo 16 laptop and it has a bigger heat sink and has vents from the bottom. The bigger vents also accumulate a lot of dust and my fans got damaged within 9 months and it was under warranty so the company has replaced the fans. So my conclusion is desktop level performance on laptop comes with compromise. U can only use it for a few months and then they start raising their cpu and gpu temps and even repasting won't make it like brand new.
My laptop’s cpu and chipset was overheating in Asus, and Acer. To solve this problem, UA-cam video watching is needed using Opera browser. The video has to be at higher res than what the cpu supports. I chose Cod Black ops full gameplay, at 720p res. That stressed the cpu, and the win halted like w95 in those days. After 10 retries, the cpu supported the 720p videos at Hd, and didn’t go over 80% cpu usage. The cpu remained hot by default, the power options didn’t react. When I discharged my battery in Bios, the cpu cooled down, and it became just a little warm by default, at high performance it’s just warm, but not hot.

Hello sorin! i always pay attention to how faster the temperature goes up. Because that is a indication your thermal paste is outdated. At the point you started the bench the temps went from 50 instantly to 95, for me, it is not a good sign. I would like your opinion.
If you use any reputable paste, it should last at least 3-5 years. Your thought process works for pcs, for laptops its more often limited by the size of the heat pipes and them not being able to pull out the heat in time
Not changed the paste in my ge73 from new, and its still performing well, its used heavily every day, maybe luck of the draw with good contact between the cpu and block, but if I couldn't tame the temps I would definitely renew it, but I would also check the mating faces, as far as paste goes I prefer to use MX4, if its not broke I leave it alone, paste doesnt need to be changed out often if its done right and you have a good mechanical fit, if one or both surfaces are out then the paste is needed to fill the voids you cant see, I just swapped out my old 4790k/z97 for a shiney new i9 setup, 4790k still runs fine but is long in the tooth and no TPM, that had only had the paste changed when changing to a different waterblock, it used to idle @ 22-24c (custom cooled loop)
Just a little correction, the IA Cores power is not the GPU power (that would be the GT if you used integrated graphics). You can see the actual GPU power draw on the right (93 W). The CPU clock goes further down if you run the GPU test because it probably shares the heatsink and dumps more heat into the cooling system. That doesn't of course change anything what you said about modern laptops and the cooling, and I agree. There is no point getting a fast CPU when the cooling is not sufficient to let the CPU run at peak performance.
I'm having an office notebook (Dell Latitude 5501) that has the same issue. Can that *really* be normal or is there a fault on the mainboard - VRM maybe? How can i check this?
My GE73 used to overheat, it has an i7 8750h, these cpu's are known to run very hot and then quickly throttle down, and constantly ramp up and down. I solved the problem by undervolting with the ThrottleStop utility, I got a massive rock stable undervolt of -312mv on the core and modest but rock stable undervolt of -135mv on the cpu cache and locked the multiplier @ 36x on all cores, the result is the cpu no longer gets above 76c no crashes no stutters and plays Star Citizen very well even on a hot day even though it has only a GTX1060 in it, but with the fans running at full tilt, and even though I have lost a few hundred mhz off the upper limit, you wouldnt think it as it is definately a lot more responsive and smoother because the way I set it up it never hits a thermal or power limit so there is no throttling, there is logging and monitoring built in to the tool so your not tinkering in the dark, - if you havent tried it I recommend it..

laptops need be reshaped with 5cm thick case, few small fans to disipate heat and no screw opening to clean it and replace paste and remove battery when plugged, they can be 3d printed and bended aluminum cans canbe used as disipators in the base

My laptop cpu temps instantly go up to 101 degrees and the gpu goes up to 86 degrees during heavy workloads. They never go higher. It seems like they performing optimally at their set limit.

Yes, the components are made to run at 100C at a maximum without overheating, but too much time at that temperature will cause damage over time.
@@sunyatboyabsolutely do NOT keep your laptop at those temperatures. One of my biggest mistakes for me was being in denial and choosing to ignore the fact that my laptop was too hot. My laptop overheated and my gpu was literally fried I had to get a new laptop. If you’re averaging 100c clean the fans. Also something I recently did to lower laptop temperatures by arond -20c was getting the llano laptop cooler. It’s expensive but it works. Only problem is it’s hella loud. But trust me if your laptop is overheating that cooler will help you a lot. Just get used to the noise
In some laptop the are puting heatpipes that over time cooling capsity its going to shiet ( thermal paste dosent mater) if you buy new hetpipe for 80 usd performance will get to normal especially some single heatpipes business laptops

I mean the engineers should have thought of this and just dumped the idea of transferring the heat to bottom panel because it's dumb and US has some rule that says bottom of laptop sould be less than 45 degrees or something you can look at consumer forum, 2nd you are cooking the battery, 3rd you might as well be cooking ram and ssds because these gen 3 and gen 4 ssd and ddr 5 rams do run hot, so I guess it's better to leave it as it is and buy a better cooling pad or investigate before investing on dumb undercooled junk, as for apple, their heat transfer mechanism was well thought of to perform that kinda shit, but they do some dumb stuffs with lower end models, they had a wireless heatsink at some point I guess it was on 2020 intel mac book air

Another one is undervolting. In laptops i prefer losing performance and improve cooling that getting a pc damaged from the temperature in the long run.
i9 12900h in Gl76 idle at 50, as soon as you run anything, hits 90-100 ! It can not go below 90 if you use it, even just chrome or office. It just live it's life at 100... percent and deg celsius :D

I disagree. Strongly. The thermal junction max value for intels chips, and AMDs, is 105c. Running them at 95 or 100c is way too close to a runaway thermal problem that causes the pc to shut down to protect itself. Thats one issue, the risk of it overheating because you took it to bed. Second, and much more importantly; there are only three things in the world that kills cpus. They are, in order or speed: voltage, heat, and time. Apply a 1.5v voltage and kiss your cpu goodbye. Like a snap of your fingers, that cpu is not starting again, even after cmos reset, unless you were liquid nitrogen cooling it. And even then, its a diceroll. Next, comes heat. Heat is the killer of most chips, perhaps excluding intels 13/14th gen, that has issues with overvoltage due to microcode bugs. Every other chip will die due to heat. But then, do you have to run your cpu at 0 to make it survive? No. There is no way to make them survive. Cpus die to heat, over time. Time. And that leads me to the third and final killer. Time. The older a cpu is, the more the silica inside has aged. Pcb and traces typically last much longer. The silica is the actual chip, buried under the internal heat spreader. Its the thing you see on those intel logos with the cool hologram effects. Thats the silica. When it ages, it stiffens. When it stiffens, it requires a higher voltage to operate, or it will fail to do its operations, and thus become unstable. Old chips can often have their life extended through overvolting and underclocking. However, with higher voltages, comes more heat. And with more heat, it will take less time to kill the silica. Dont cook your silica. If you do, the machine is largely valueless except for the value of its scrap components. Be nice to your silica.

I'm always disgusted when I see the terms "gaming" and "laptop" together. Is it really that much effort to sit at a desk and play a game? Or buy a wireless keyboard and mouse to sit on the sofa? I've got a 3060 too, but mine is 12GB and in a desktop PC. Idles at 28 with fans at 50%. Under 100% sustained load with fans on 100% it gets to maybe 42-50 degrees. The CPU is a 5820k. Yeah it's old and it still runs every game in 4k. CPU isn't important in 99% of games. Idle is around 33? Full load is less than the GPU (I think). I don't pay attention to CPU temp. Point being, why buy a "gaming laptop" when a gaming PC costs the same , is upgradeable and performs faster. For the convenience of sitting in the garden? In direct sunlight that will add to the heat? To carry around, smash the screen and put board components under kinetic stress?
Ive got a gaming laptop and im very happy with it. Need it for my degree. Dont have space for a desktop. I know a desktop is better. I needed a decent gpu for the programs I need to run. Its not all about you.
I recently bought a 2nd hand gaming laptop (MSI GF65 THIN - i7 9750H + GTX 1650 MAX Q) which was operating at 102 celcius on CPU and GPU. Reposted it with quality thermal paste and it ran at 85 celcius comfortably. I resold it for a profit

I'm always disgusted when I see the terms "gaming" and "laptop" together. Is it really that much effort to sit at a desk and play a game? Or buy a wireless keyboard and mouse to sit on the sofa?
I've got a 3060 too, but mine is 12GB and in a desktop PC. Idles at 28 with fans at 50%. Under 100% sustained load with fans on 100% it gets to maybe 42-50 degrees. The CPU is a 5820k. Yeah it's old and it still runs every game in 4k. CPU isn't important in 99% of games. Idle is around 33? Full load is less than the GPU (I think). I don't pay attention to CPU temp.
Point being, why buy a "gaming laptop" when a gaming PC costs the same , is upgradeable and performs faster. For the convenience of sitting in the garden? In direct sunlight that will add to the heat? To carry around, smash the screen and put board components under kinetic stress?
Because that's what they see in pop culture. The demographic for these are mommy daddy its for school.
Ive got a gaming laptop and im very happy with it. Need it for my degree. Dont have space for a desktop. I know a desktop is better. I needed a decent gpu for the programs I need to run. Its not all about you.

I recently bought a 2nd hand gaming laptop (MSI GF65 THIN - i7 9750H + GTX 1650 MAX Q) which was operating at 102 celcius on CPU and GPU. Reposted it with quality thermal paste and it ran at 85 celcius comfortably. I resold it for a profit
Also added a undervolt to the CPU
@@brainoverload6288 get yourself a cutting wheel if u wanna see crazy gains.. even just drilling holes in the case in key spots. consumer tech is always suffocated
