You have a excellent relationship with your Mum, its refreshing to see a young guy so confident and having a laugh with his Mum. Your Mum is brave to do these videos, these are the videos the big companies should pay attention to...
Its a strange idea for a youtube channel but since its so popular I continued it. It started off as a channel to knock off Windows 8 and point out it's flaws but then when people liked the concept I evolved it making her test operating systems from all different eras.
I found it. The video I learned about the Linux Action Show. Man, I'm so glad I decided as a 9 year old to watch this channel! It's litterally the reason I have a hobby, an interest, a passion for technology, and it's likely changed the rest of my life.
Hmm, i got the impression it didn't work at all (that would be an issue for me, the internet connection tends to go down when work is going on at the DSLAM)
Damon Eliot You probably don't even have a chromebook... They are NOT useless at all without internet connections. There are a LOT of useful apps that run offline like google documents photo editing programs etc.
The light outside and the light on the computer monitor combined always seems to mess up the auto focus on my camera. By putting the camera up to the screen it allows you to easily see the text and stuff on the screen and it also prevents the auto focus problems.
After using a Chromebooks for a sufficient time, I can safely say that it was the best $200 I've ever spent. I did install Linux via chroot, but I haven't used it in forever, and it probably is just taking up space on my SSD. Even offline, I can write documents, view anything saved to computer (and everything that I've checked for offline use in Google Drive), etc. It's amazing!
I have to tell you, I just absolutely LOVE your videos.... And your Mom is an absolute Angel in her patience... You do a fabulous job OsFirst Timer. You make a Great Team !!!
I hate the Chrome Book, cant do anything if your Offline, Cant use anything but Online Apps, etc... plus ALL the apps on the Chrome Book are free apps for Windows, Offline and Online... so why buy a Chrome Book when you can buy a cheap laptop or even the Surface RT/Pro, and get all the things the Chrome Book has, plus the benefits of a actual computer? Plus 90% of people already have a PC, so buying another laptop, especially a Chrome Book, is just plain stupid.
+ojanieno Name one decent laptop for 249.. The only reason that these chromebooks are good, is because their operating system doesnt need much cpu power. On the other hand. A windows laptop that costs 249 will just not have enough power to be a good windows machine. But if you know one, ill be glad to hear it from ya :)
ojanieno Chrome os is lightweight, it doesnt need much to run smoothly. Thereby it keeps running smoothly cause it doesnt build up junkfiles as fast as a windows pc does. For people who just need to take notes, send emails, browse the internet etc the chrome book just fits perfectly. I personally see the chrome books as an addition to a heavy workstation. Heavy work should be done on a windows mac machine ($300 laptop isnt going to do that for you in my opinion).
ojanieno if you're in the United States you can go to any state auction authorized by your state when they get rid of surplus equipment will take Montana faster let's save Montana as a State Surplus sale well they got pallets of stuff like hospital equipment from the Montana State Hospital blah blah blah any man have tons of computer and laptops on wrapped in Pallet all you got to do is make a bid on them now I don't live in Arkansas in Arkansas have something called Arkansas State Surplus sale every week one day a week because they don't have a five people there and them guys spend the rest of the week going all over the state of Arkansas picking up State Surplus equipment for resale that's why they put them one day a week anyway I digress you can buy a laptop with a hard drive wipe clean because our law here in Arkansas don't allow the operation system inside of computers because it might have personal stuff in it plus the Arkansas State Surplus not allowed to sell any operating system in the laptops anyway I don't know how it is in other states but that's how it is here so you can buy you a wipe system clean put in Linux software and then turn around and sell it make a profit in the laptop you to go for about 30 to $50 maybe $200 I have brought laptop for $30 and all I did was just install it boom I just put in $300 stuff office software game you name it none of it didn't cost me a dime Spencer Linux all I did was download it for the price of a flash drive with just $5 and that's it I can resell it if I want too long as it works. that's how we do things in America if the capitalist system but we use it.
Reason why this OS is bad: -It is Google Chrome with better way of sorting your bookmarks -Does not have a drive on whom you can save things on, everything is online -Does not have any function when you do not have access to the internet -It makes you pay 300$ to get a machine when you could buy something cheaper and just install Chrome on it

THIS WEEK ON THE LINUX ACTION SHOW, THE GUYS AT JUPITER (mom: what) BROADCASTING DO THEIR REVIEW OF OWNCLOUD 5 BUT THIS ISN'T THE LINUX ACTION SHOW THIS IS OSFIRSTTIMER
Yes and no. Chromium pretty much is the open source Chrome. Chrome is just rebranded, commercially released Chromium with a couple of additional proprietary things included. To the lay person, they're pretty much identical
@1234Runit then why are there two browsers of it? like explained here: ua-cam.com/video/OZ2bqMkRQRs/v-deo.html And look at the website that says: there are two versions for it in linux It says "in short, google chrome is the chromium opensource project built, packaged and distributed by google". So google made something different out of it which you can compare in the video. So it is not the exact same thing.
As a full-timer user of Chrome OS, let me tell you a few things: 1) Chrome OS comes with more web "shortcuts"- it comes with Google Drive, Google Calendar, UA-cam, etc. 2) You can actually enable offline mode for Google Drive, Google Calendar, etc. 3) There are also desktop applications you can download and use offline. 4) You don't have to use Google to calculate something. It comes with an actual offline Calculator application. And if your mom has to get a Chromebook but hates Chrome OS, there's always Chrubuntu.
Doesn't the auto-login thing work on all machines? Every time I go to google on my Wiiu (browser and app), Vita(browser and app), 360(app and browser), Laptop (Windows 8 using Opera 20), and phone (Duramax using netfront), it stays signed in most of the time after I turn it on and go to google/youtube.
On most systems, you sign in to one google service and you'll be signed into all of them. With a Chromium, the OS is a google service too, so by signing in to the computer you sign into all google services.
OSFirstTimer Hey! I really enjoy your videos! I see you are using virtualbox as your virtual machine software! I also use virtualbox but I am having some problems running Ubuntu on it (it starts but just very slow). It is possible you could do a tutorial on how to run Ubuntu in VirtualBox?
I use VMWare, virtual box was a one off in this episode. I typically boot Ubuntu off a live USB. It is quite slow at booting since its a little bloated.
OSFirstTimer Ya, I typically experience the same thing on my computer. I had a 1GB RAM netbook and windows 7 was giving me issues, I wanted to put Ubuntu on it. I started watching your vids to figure out what Linux distro I should use. These videos are great!

Fun fact: Google calculator cannot do operations with googolplex is beyond the limit of what the computer can store, which, without using advanced things like HPA, 1e+308 (The actual number is closer to 2^1024 but whatever). Google calculator will not perform any calculations that are beyond this limit (at least if you're typing the search bar for it, if you typed in search bar it'd return infinity). That's why Googolplex*Googolplexian wouldn't have worked.
Chromium is the development opensource version then stable builds of chromium are used as ChromeOS versions... that's what I've read anyway but my sources could be wrong.
I should of expected as much from a seal... You're all judgmental and uneducated, thinking that your fwippers are gods gift to the world. Well this cat went to uni for engineering so leave this matter in my paws. Anyway this conversation is a waste of my time I'm going to go knock stuff off my desk.
The statement at 14:15 isn't exactly true. Any normal, Google Chrome browser can be synced via the settings to your Google account and those launchers will be there. Look up "multiple account tabs".
Chrome OS *does* have offline apps: for example, some calculators, google docs, gmail offline, etc. In addition (although it didn't exist at the time this was created) MS office online does now exist.
The ROFLCOPTER made it's point. No hate to ChromeOS, it's great, but I like having my documents in my personal possession, luckily I noticed you can download documents to your PC, however I would want to be able to create documents on the OS, not online, watch videos locally, etc. I'm thinking you can still do that, so it makes it a completely minified. Your mum makes a good point about Google's Store, I felt the same way initially and I'm 25, I just got used to it. But it still could be better, not everyone is a hipster. lol
Indeed.. and for me productivity means that a certain thing handles more with less require ments.. like a Company.. For example: A company wich has 50 employees and around 30 robots makes like 50,000 products a month with normal quallity A company with 30 employees makes like 50,000 products with high quallity (just an example...) so the second one is more productive... And for me Google docs, sheets and those things are a wanna be Microsooft word. Wich is an office program... so.. kinda fail of google...
i only use google drive because i always fail to bring a flash drive with me.. for schoool work, and. with google drive i can also showity on my ipad so i's a bit easier for me
My flash drive is attached to my house keys. I always lock up before I leave because I have a lot of expensive equipment, so I don't have that issue. But, if I am ever without a flash drive, I just email myself, or put it in a rar and upload it to one of my servers.
hendrik visch Yeah, our school actually uses Chromebooks instead of a traditional computer lab. They decided it was a good idea when they heard documents are stored on the internet, because that way you couldn't forget your homework at home.
Is Virtualbox safe on a Windows 7 Starter Acer Aspire One 32bit I want to my mom to test Chrome OS on my laptop before I install it on our home desktop computer before Windows Vista ends support please give me some answers I don't want to make my laptop stop working I know how to use Virtualbox I just want to know if its safe and where do you get you iso files for the operating systems
Well on ChromeOS actually, you can use MANY apps offline. Including but not limited to: Google docs, certain games, that calculator you installed. Anything with the thunderbolt next to "Install"
Every chromebook has a HDD mostly not a very big one.. some have aron 360 gb. Nowadays you can use one offline and store it temporary on our laptop wich goes online when you are connected again, atleast.. some sort of thing i heard in other videos
Made it to the end of vid always wondered why I couldn't read my Google Books offline on chrome xp web browser even though I had it set to "make available offline" Thank you Phill and Diana I LOVE your videos!
Yea windows 7 is my personal favourite os for day to day use but I love to play with linux for fun. Oh and chromium os is the open source development version of chrome os so it's practically the same thing but chrome os is usually more stable and chromium is more up to date.
Hi OsFirstTimer, Can you give instructions( or to be specific the exact link) where to download the version of chromium OS you are using. I installed the nightly build from heexeh onto a usb and I keep getting a kernel panic. Have you installed it on your hard disk or usb. Please help.

Literally. It is rebelling against him.
Reason why this OS is bad:
-It is Google Chrome with better way of sorting your bookmarks

***** KIK is a service like Google Hangouts and Skype.
Officer Dramsen LET'S KIK THIS GUY!
Chromium is the development opensource version then stable builds of chromium are used as ChromeOS versions... that's what I've read anyway but my sources could be wrong.
She was right, it was 20^100.
TheBelgiumeseKid
She was told to calculate 10^100 + 10^100, not to multiply the two.
Either you're trolling or you donno how to math lol
I should of expected as much from a seal... You're all judgmental and uneducated, thinking that your fwippers are gods gift to the world. Well this cat went to uni for engineering so leave this matter in my paws.
Anyway this conversation is a waste of my time I'm going to go knock stuff off my desk.

What a beautiful view through the windows ^^
You mommy is very cool, never stop taking care of her :)
"Was that quick?"
"NO!"
LOL
You should teach her how to turn off live tiles on W8 if she doesn't like all the flicking information ;)
You are free to do whatever you want. We will be doing an Android video eventually though.
This video perfectly illustrates why chrome OS is not practical for everyone. It's not even fully functional without internet.
The statement at 14:15 isn't exactly true. Any normal, Google Chrome browser can be synced via the settings to your Google account and those launchers will be there. Look up "multiple account tabs".
I had a chrome book AND I SUCKED
kawaii potato ** I had a chrome book and ended up flashin Linux on it instead and it works like a charm
kawaii potato ** you sucked?
I can't even explain why I love this channel, I just do.
U-tube!
Chromium OS isn't made by Google, Chrome OS is. Chromium OS is the original, open-source OS, and has NOTHING to do with Google.
it's just an honest compliment...Mam, you are really beautiful...
+Md Samir Hossain freakin weirdo....
Chrome OS *does* have offline apps: for example, some calculators, google docs, gmail offline, etc. In addition (although it didn't exist at the time this was created) MS office online does now exist.
This video is a mess man. It's not very helpful if you were to show it to a first time user.
I don't think it was made to be shown to a first time user, it was made to be shown to Diana.
When I tried out Chromium OS, I were not able to add apps from the store. After that I found this operating system completely useless.
Diana: Is this a math lesson, or a computer os discovery?
Phillip: *BOTH*
You have a VERY tolerant Mom
LOL just saw UTUBE LOL

Yeah, our school actually uses Chromebooks instead of a traditional computer lab.
I just subscribed to your channel... this is very funny, entertaining and fairly educational! Keep at it!
Maybe Diana should do a nixie pixel impersonation in the next video...
How far it's come is staggering.
Well on ChromeOS actually, you can use MANY apps offline. Including but not limited to: Google docs, certain games, that calculator you installed. Anything with the thunderbolt next to "Install"
How does a chromebook / chromeOS reacts if there is no conntection with the inernet?
Every chromebook has a HDD mostly not a very big one.. some have aron 360 gb. Nowadays you can use one offline and store it temporary on our laptop wich goes online when you are connected again, atleast.. some sort of thing i heard in other videos
Well, you can use it offline, but it's an Internet based "OS" though... Things like Skype and iTunes and others WON'T WORK AT ALL.
5:46 exactly my thoughts
Dunno whether this was true at the time but the Chrome App Launcher is actually now available on other operating systems.
Diana was 100 percent done with the math
Hi OsFirstTimer, Can you give instructions( or to be specific the exact link) where to download the version of chromium OS you are using. I installed the nightly build from heexeh onto a usb and I keep getting a kernel panic. Have you installed it on your hard disk or usb. Please help.
Can you get an ISO file for Chrome/Chromium OS from the internet please? I wanna try it on Virtualbox.
hi again :D
Ryan H. idk you, srry
Robloxs Xtremeguy
dude we met at an android forum somewhere and the post was something like "Google Play not opening fix"
The "27.0.1441.1" part made me lol. :D
I want the iso file you used for this, please
this video just felt like it was cut short
Not the most replayed being Diana's email 😭😂
249 is still pretty expensive in my country :(
DeathAngel same
I love the sea outside the window...
5:25 I calculated that on Google, and it came up with Infinity?
