- Apple's iOS isn't the only tablet and phone operating system available. In fact Sales of Android Phones worldwide are higher than the sales of iPhone's as of December 2012. Android devices are very affordable and currently there are over 800,000 apps in the google play store for Android. What's it like to use an Android Tablet though? Let's find out ;)

The mother in this video uses Windows XP (2001) as her main OS duel booted with Elementary OS (a fast Linux distro). Would you like to see her try out Linux, Mac, Windows or other operating systems through history such as OS/360 (1966)? Then give your suggestions in the comments section. I am open to any operating system suggestions you give especially if these videos go semi-viral (over 100,000 views). This channel is dedicated to me "introducing" people (mum, dad, me) to different operating systems they have never used before and leaving them to suffer in confusion struggling to do anything in an unknown computer environment... or see if these other operating systems are better than Microsoft Windows.
Generally we try operating systems out of the box anyway and it was hard enough getting android to run on surface pro so I was kind of over modifying it anymore.

I booted it off usb natively (came up with the grub screen and everything) using a modified Ubuntu 13.10 live usb to boot into android rather than Ubuntu...
I have Android Lollipop 5.1. I like this OS, because it is much more customizable as iOS without Jailbreak/Rooting.

Android Devices aren't always supposed to be cheap for example the Galaxy S6 is over 500 dollars unlocked and the nexus 9 is 399-499 dollars (United States)

The best Android tablet is the Google Nexus 7 2nd Generation released in July 2013. The 16GB Wi-Fi was $229. The difference between Google/Microsoft & Apple is that Google & Microsoft are primarily software companies, whereas Apple makes both hardware & software and Apple does not allow it's OS to be copied to other devices,, so you don't have hardware choices when it comes to Apple. You have many Android & Windows devices to choose from

Apple doesn't make hardware. They get their CPUs from Foxconn (but for iPhone 3GS and below they got it from Samsung) and then claim it their "new invention". Same for their "Retina Display", it was also from Samsung and also claimed it their invention. Samsung cancelled LCD partnership with Apple when the war started, Apple then switched to LG Sharp Display.
Yes, just like Apple didn't invent the mp3 player they call the iPod. They stole the idea and patent from Creative Labs who pioneered the mp3 player and owns the patent on their ZEN MP3 Player

Guy at work bought one of those HP touchpads when they went fire sale at $99 and put Android ICS on it. It worked great.
On the Surface Pro, you can install a program called Bluestacks. This will allow you to run all Android apps on an x86 PC. They have a version that is optimized for Windows 8 touch screens. I have this on my Surface and to be honest, I haven't been back to the Windows store--except to install Fresh Paint.
I wouldn't want to buy an android tablet for that much... I got a surface pro for $1100 and it can run desktop apps and android apps with blue stacks... practically any OS can run on the surface pro which is why I love it so much.... I am OSFirstTimer after all so I love devices that can run unlimited operating systems.

The price range of nexus 10 is still lower than the overall price range of ipads (excluding the iPad mini). Overall though android devices in general are cheaper than ipads.
A quick google search for android tablets for sale in Australia only showed results for cheap tablets. I am not knocking android in this video saying it's for poor people... I am saying its a great os that's able to run on a variety of tablets with over 800,000 apps even on cheap tablets. Oh course I now know that you can run android on more expensive tablets as well for a better experience but overall its great that android tablets come in so many different shapes, sizes and prices.
It's also for cheapskates, my mum buys me android stuff because it's cheap, But I do believe android is an amazing OS, and I'm happy with Android, With this comment I finally realise there I someone who doesn't *trash so much on android.*

I think Windows 10 on tablet might be good for her to try. She did say that Windows 8 was good on tablets and that she liked the fact that Windows 10 had the feature of detecting if the device was a tablet or not. Get her to try it.

I do have steam but I barely play and if I do its usually single player and I only own a few steam games anyway such as terraria (my fav) so yea... adding me wouldn't be very beneficial or exciting...

Has anyone ever tried to run a graphical linux binary program on an android device? I'm REALLY curious about what will happen, will it run normally? Will it give an error? Will it run but won't display the GUI of the app at all? If you know this then please tell me.
I think it'll give an error, since android only uses Linux as its core/kernel, and the apps are solely running only on the android system, not the kernel, which only makes the core functions of the system run.

The thing with the Android sales is just that there are much more cheaper android phones/tablets being sold. It's probably not that people prefer android over iOS (not saying android is bad)

Sorry to get into the argument, but the x86 ports are actually very stable now, I haven't had a single error when running in a virtual machine.

On Windows Phone you just press the shutter button and boom you're on the camera mode. Quickly press the shutter again and you already took a picture. It's lightning fast and would easily capture those flying saucers.

Android is more like a desktop or laptop computer that you can customize it MUCH more and do many things that apple users must jailbreak their devices
I never knew Android had a terminal. Plus you should have shown that Android 4.2.2 (Kitkat) easter egg. Just go into Settings, preferences, information, tap on the version number 5 times, and hold your finger down a couple of times.
Ought to mention that Android 4.2.x is Jelly Bean. You've confused 4.2.x with 4.4.x which is KitKat

Phillip, Android isn't /made/ for cheap tablets. There are many different tablets running android. Some are cheap, as you said (though many are very terrible), but there are other, better, more expensive tablets such as the Nexus 10 or the Transformer Pad Infinity. It also seems like you haven't used Android much and don't know all of its conventions (not knowing there is a back button on the bottom to go back to the notes screen for example). That being said, I'm glad you had Diana try it.

If your having to do monthly payments on a tablet, then it didn't cost a dollar. One dollar was only the down payment.

i think the surface pro pixel density was a little too big for android, it was not designed for that, although you can force a smaller resolution in android.

Im pretty sure he got the android on his surface using a USB and booting from it (i think he can do that but im not sure iv never used one or seen if it had a boot screen like a desktop)
The only problem with that data, regarding websites reporting the device (or browser/operating system). I've noticed that some non-iOS devices are reported as such. Has anyone else had this issue?
I am curently using an android tablet (nexus 7) and I will say that it works much better than shown in the video although spell check sucks, but since its android you can get a new key board with better spell check and predicting features
