I really have to hand it to Gregg Berger in this scene. He does a great job of letting Jecht’s real emotions seep through the tough talk with his inflection and timing with the dialogue. In a dub that has a history of being questionable, I’ve never been disappointed with his performance. Plus, the guy was Grimlock in the original Transformers cartoon.

Honestly my most saddest scene in all of FF is when Tidus meets his dad (Jecht), the dialogue, the emotion it’s so so sad, so gut-wrenching. When Tidus says ‘I hate you’. You can feel the pain and anguish in Jechts voice, the regret, and the anger and sadness in Tidus and also how much he actually loves his dad, that’s just his way of saying ‘I love you’. Because he chases after him immediately to catch him when he falls. He’s been dying to see him the whole game, and actually only gets a few tragic minutes with him. It’s the biggest tragedy in all of FF for me makes me cry this father-son relationship 😢. The music too in that scene too 😢. Tidus had so much character development from hating his dad to forgiving him and loving him, and from a young kid to becoming a man and taking the reigns. I mean it was his idea to kill Yunalesca and Sin. Other scenes that come to mind is Jecht and Braskas goodbye to Auron with Aurons plea to stop, Aurons sending and of course the ending scene 😢
This scene right here is what defines Final Fantasy in my opinion. To this day I maintain of all the modern FF games (PS1 forward), this one is the best in terms of story and character development. I know that's going to piss off a lot of FFVII fans, but this game had so much heart.
I played through as they released in the day, and themes and story and the general world of this are the most "real/raw" of all them. Religion, cycles of history, pursing the only option available as it the least worst option or throw all chips on table. A death march. I love them all VII-X, but this was the best and now I think more so as an adult.
My favorite was VI out of all of them but X is definitely up there. Tactics(ps1) had a very good story too though but I can't decide whether or not it beats X. The stories for both can't really be compared too much because they're too different. The only thing close between the two I can think of is the end. I loved VII but I'm not afraid to admit that it is kinda overrated.
Especially when it was intentional!! They break down into actual laughter afterward. It blows my mind that so many people fail to comprehend that scene, lol
Lol. Gotta love his resolve to still crack a dad joke there of all places. Just imagine if he kept it going. "Well I am sin you know!" "Dad, I'm serious." "Hey there, serious. I'm dad!.... And Sin." "I hate you." "I know."
Difference between this version and the original Japanese is that Tidus calls his dad baka, instead of saying I hate you, right off the bat. And Auron says sorry to Jecht instead of "I know", for being late.
Through the years, the most fascinating tale in this story is the respect that Jecht and Auron have for themselves. Auron kept to his word for 10 years, literally abdicating the rest of his life to serve a single purpose, as did Jecht, and when they saw eachother for the first time after all of this, Jecht instead of thanking Auron for giving up his life for his son scolds him, "You're late Auron", and the thing is, he didn't need to thank him at all, because they both know for a fact that if the tables were turned, Jecht would do the same in a heartbeat, heck, he gave up his life to save a world he barely knew. That kind of trust is very hard to be written believably, it is subtle, and very realistic.
Tidus hates his dad as much as he DOESN'T want, to hate his dad. Like their is a miscarried relationship between them. So Tidus has a kind of unjustified love or connrection to his father AND an equally as justified loathing of him. Whatever way you slice it, hes heartbroken. Jecht became a better man in soul when he became sin. .The world had to end for him to realise the love for his son. Tragic af. So this is the first truly authentic moment between them. Oof.
I agree; I think after all that Tidus had been through and learned, he realized how good of a person his father was and felt sad about having to kill him. Poor Jecht.
Kids these days sadly won't experience the joy and excitement 90's kids had when games had heart, soul, blood, sweat and tears poured into a project. When Jecht re-emerged as the beast and the intro song played I lost my shit and had so much adrenaline for this battle. Coming off of ff 7, 8 and 9, 10 blew me out of the water. When I first saw the intro I knew I was in for a wild ride.
Jecht had a bit of brilliance there that you don't get until later. Normally when an Aeon is defeated everything about it vanishes. But his sword remained despite him shifting back down. So knowing that the current body was about to be defeated Yu-Yevon fled to await the Final Aeon that it would take over once the old host is destroyed. But likely it couldn't break the link fully until the old one was gone but since Jecht left that part behind, it anchored Yu-Yevon to it, long enough that Yuna could unsummon any she might have had out during the battle. So faced with the fact that there was no other host, just the remaining power of the old body, Yu-Yevon is forced to absorb what it can to begin making its new form and leaving it open until then.
Remember in the beginning in a flashback scene when tidus mom says “if he (jecht) dies you’ll never be able to tell him how much you hate him.” Makes this scene here make even more sense. This game is deep
Jecht is my favorite character in FFX. His design is striking, his sword is stupid and badass simultaneously, and his story is one of my favorites. Tidus was a small kid and a bit of a cry baby, and positive encouragement was only going so far, so Jecht became this mountain for Tidus to overcome, as a professional blitzball player he knew that competitive rivalry motivates both parties to be better then ever. It was all reverse psychology. When he leaves Zanarkand for the real world, we see the man behind the antagonistic facade, he is confused, he is homesick, he misses his family, and finds happiness in the new friends he made and the fun adventures they are having.
I actually understand what Tidus is going through here. I used to think the old guy I lived with (not related to me, but raised me) was just a quiet heartless man who didn't really care about us kids. Later I learned about scars from Vietnam that he never really got over. And he had to deal with my mooch of a grandmother. He could've tried to open up more. I suppose he did his best though, in the way he knew how. That love-hate relationship I had with him endures to this day. It's complicated. He was 63 when I left. in 2010. Haven't seen the man since.
The ending when Tidus defeats Sin, he cries while holding his father while saying “I hate you” but you can hear it in his voice he truly wanted to say “I love you dad” before his sending. This scene makes me cry every time.
Auron is the most important factor in the story. Sin/Jecth and Tidus are immortals as they exist outside reality and Jecth can pull him out of it but without Auron, he might not be able to control Sin to travel in the dream Zanarkand that's why he teased Auron being late because this is their gambit in ending the cycle. Only Tidus can help Jecth to gain more control to Sin so they can lure the Yu yevon out. Without Auron, they have to wait again until Jecth can gain some control of his own as sin and Spira would be atleast 50% destroyed by then.
Lots of folks say they don't understand why the voice acting is hated - I don't understand the people who say THAT! I feel like several key moments are almost ruined by awkward acting...at least if you're playing with a friend, 'cause then you really notice awkwardness. I'm just speculating, but I can't help but think it's not the actors' faults. Who knows if they were fed the story details and blocking and stuff in a structured or chronological way? Lots of lines feel like they were recorded completely in a vacuum or something. I don't know, but I struggle to believe voice actors like these ones are actually just that bad. Plus several of their lines are damn amazing. Also, the laughing scene will not be your strawman, I think the bad laughter is awesome and it's super obvious that it's intentional. Anyway. The only characters who never, ever have bad lines are Auron and Jecht, they are unstoppable badasses
Jecht : You re late Auron. Auron: I know . With that words reunited this good friends . That to they want this two was defeat Sin and reunited with the other friend Brasha. From Tidus was hard too. All this years hate his father and he realised who loved him and must kill him to free him to become Sin.
They both had issues in theyre relationship and jecht could have done better as a father but it never changed the fact that they will always love eachother
Voice acting in this game is great, some line delivery doesn’t sound natural because 1. English lines had to match up to existing Japanese lip sync (like where Tidus says “That’s enough!”) and 2. Apparently there was a glitch where if the English voice clip ran longer than the Japanese voice clip, it would crash the game or something, so the localization team HAD to make the English line equal length or shorter (like when Tidus says “Hi” it sounds rushed and cut off). The restrictions definitely make a few lines in the game sound weird, but the rest sounds great.
Man in my very first run of this game, I didn't train enought and that btch Seymmour killed me like 100 times at gagazet (I was really young). Had to watch the stupid cutscene everytime XD I was so mad repeating the script
I always assumed she wanted to thank him for protecting her father during his pilgrimage and wanted to apologize for how things turned out. Becoming Sin is a horrible reward for saving the world, after all. And despite the violence, Jecht dies peacefully, accepting his death and fading away before their eyes. We only get Jecht’s story from Titus’s perspective, but it’s easily one of the most tragic stories in all of Final Fantasy.
In the japanese version she just says "ano" which if you've watched subbed anime before, this is equivalent to "umm." So it's really unclear what she was going to do. But her tone of voice in the jp version makes me think she wanted to express her feelings to Jecht before he was gone.
Interestingly, he was gonna be disguised as Jecht. Sadly the developers didn’t want to give him a bigger role. While this helps focus Tidus’s story more, I feel that it wasted Jecht’s potential since he’s a pretty interesting character.
Favorite scene of all-time favorite game (to play; in terms of story I hold VII a little higher). This game's story is so amazing and so beautifully told that I don't even mind how absolute shit I am against Braska's Final Aeon.
I love how when Jecht collapses at the end of the fight Auron starts to go to him, but stops when he sees Tidus running forward. Like, his first instinct is to go help his friend only to remind himself that this is a moment between father and son.
What continues to bother me to this day is - I can't figure out what the hell Yu Yevon is. If I were to go off the storyline, Yu Yevon was a human summoner but hell if what we fight at the end looks, or even acts human to me. I mean... he comes across as what the game portrays him as, a parasite, one that infects and possesses Aeons. Wasn't he said to have been Lady Yunalesca's father or... something?
He was the High Summoner of Zanarkand during the war againts Bevelle. During the war they were outmatched and Bevelle was determined to destroy them. So he asked the surviving people of Zanarkand to help him summon a great power and they would become his "shield". He's a parasite of some sort since it's like a final command thinking that they are still at war since the summons are shells of souls he would always merge with them since he has more power over the collected souls.
Yu Yevon created Sin and ascended to what he is now to win the war against Zanarkand...the problem is, the war never ended. All this time later, Sin still exists to inflict sorrow and misery on Spira. Ironically, Bevelle turns to religion as a way to "escape" this fate, worshipping the very being who damned Spira to a cycle of death.
Here's the thing, why didn't Auron help Braska defeat Jecht when Yu Yevon possessed him? Auron was still alive when Braska confronted Sin. He didn't die until after the Calm began.
first of ALL, how did jecht went to spira ? was he "created" by the faith like tidus ? Why did Auron went to zanarkan to bring tidus back in spira if the faith just created him ? this part is so confusing for me.
Because Jecht still has control prior to becoming the new Sin, he insisted Auron to bring Tidus to Spira by entering Dream Zanarkand in hopes of ending the cycle for good.
So I better point this out for those who haven't played the game, or are looking to play it again. Having Tidus talk to Jecht mid-fight actually serves more of a purpose than to get a little extra dialogue. The first two times, it resets Jecht's overdrive bar. The third and final time, it does nothing, nor does it give any more dialogue.
Time travel in this game is a little weird. Its obvious Jecht was the final Sin. But when you think about it, Sin destroyed Zanerkand to get Tidus to come into the future. That was the first Sin attack and it was Jecht doing it. So he is the First and Last
My favorite story of all Final Fantasy's was actually the one from FFVII Crisis Core. It's incredibly underrated but was SO well done imo. Don't know how many times it made me cry. FFX and FFVII come right after it for me.

If only he knew how to laught lol
He wasn't laughing!? 😂 I spit out my drink
Auron and Jecht are some of my most loved characters in a video game ever.
1:45 Final Fantasy dad humor.
Wow, Tidus was true to his word. He really made it quick
Say what? That's grimlock?
I came back to this video after having watched Ringing Bell 1978,
which Gregg apperantly voiced the adult version of the main character of.
Not to mention Cornfed in the TV series Duckman.
history of being questionable? I've been an active member of this community for the past 20 years and I never heard this before, moreover it is still superb even by today's standards, the only thing that did age in this game are the graphics.
GRIMLOCK SMASH!!!
"You're late, Auron."
"...I know."
That sadness in his voice :/
God FFX was such a great game. I got this game now but I can’t help and admire these scenes. Such strong stuff. Imagine if Squall and Laguna had a scene like this...
@Kurt2012007 I didn't know until I spoke to Kiros saying something like you look like your mother. It really makes sense as Laguna and Raine were together like 16 yrs ago and Squall is around same age.
@Kurt2012007 well if you talked to laguna before you went to fight ultimecia he tells squall that he has something to tell him afterwards so I'm assuming he told squall after he returned
do you like FF12/FF13/FF9?
I know this comment is like 5 years old and it's not exactly the same as here but if you've never seen it look up "Enjoy the Now Squall and Laguna" from Dissidia and it's fan service of the highest caliber
“Tidus, there’s something that you should know about your father.”
“What’s that?”
“He’s a metalhead.”
"You'll cry. You're gonna cry.
You always cry. See? You're cryin'."
That part always cracks me up. This was a great scene. :3
The real joke is that he's talking to the audience, because everyone cries at what comes next.
Tidus voice actor does his very best to ruin this scene and several others in the game.
I prefer 8 but 10 is 2nd but 1 in story
7 has much richer world-building with their story than 10, but 10s story is better.
@@callmeshaggy5166 Well there isn't much to build in a world with Sin.
Jecht is my favorite. His look, voice, and personality is exactly like my uncle. I look so much like my uncle, but sadly he passed away at just 52.
You have my empathy, may he rest in piece.
Awww I’m sorry :(
I like how people who never played FF10 bring up that one scene as bad voice acting when the voice acting is actually pretty solid.
Especially when it was intentional!! They break down into actual laughter afterward. It blows my mind that so many people fail to comprehend that scene, lol
@@VeneficiumX yeah its freaking ridiculous
Lol. Gotta love his resolve to still crack a dad joke there of all places.
Just imagine if he kept it going.
"Well I am sin you know!"
"Dad, I'm serious."
"Hey there, serious. I'm dad!.... And Sin."
"I hate you."
"I know."
6:37
That's perfect timing
Tidus hates his dad as much as he DOESN'T want, to hate his dad. Like their is a miscarried relationship between them. So Tidus has a kind of unjustified love or connrection to his father AND an equally as justified loathing of him. Whatever way you slice it, hes heartbroken. Jecht became a better man in soul when he became sin. .The world had to end for him to realise the love for his son. Tragic af. So this is the first truly authentic moment between them. Oof.
Jecht is really Tidus's dad, this is so sad!! (Tearing)
This encounter is so tense. "I hate you."
I agree; I think after all that Tidus had been through and learned, he realized how good of a person his father was and felt sad about having to kill him. Poor Jecht.
That "i hate you" looks like a ytp
ihateyou
Omg Tidus moved so fast when jecht just up his hand after falling
Ye he had auto-haste 100%
Kids these days sadly won't experience the joy and excitement 90's kids had when games had heart, soul, blood, sweat and tears poured into a project. When Jecht re-emerged as the beast and the intro song played I lost my shit and had so much adrenaline for this battle. Coming off of ff 7, 8 and 9, 10 blew me out of the water. When I first saw the intro I knew I was in for a wild ride.
I like the fact that there's an understanding between Tidus and Jecht.
"hit me with all you got, Dad!"
me: HEY, hold up...
I loved the beginning song gets you goosebumps
This was the ULTIMATE DADDY-ISSUE BATTLE MUSIC EVER!!!! Super Kami Guru approves.
After all these years this game still gets me hype. When the Otherworld started playing I got hype.
I just realized Jecht's tattoo is clipping through the belt for his armor at 9:22
Jecht had a bit of brilliance there that you don't get until later.
This boss fight have the most surprising genre of choice for the soundtrack
Auron and Jecht are 2 of the best FF characters ever XD
They've done a great job at this Conversation between father and son.
Remember in the beginning in a flashback scene when tidus mom says “if he (jecht) dies you’ll never be able to tell him how much you hate him.”
Makes this scene here make even more sense. This game is deep
He knows
The whole sin and jecht summoning can definitely fit in a FFXIV raid system story with tiers. Like omega.
When his true version emerges:
Me: 😱😱😱😱
"You eating right boy"? Lol. And one hell of a reunion between father and son.
Still a more functional relationship then I have with my dad
The ending when Tidus defeats Sin, he cries while holding his father while saying “I hate you” but you can hear it in his voice he truly wanted to say “I love you dad” before his sending. This scene makes me cry every time.
Jecht haves the best battle music tbh
4:47 start game
I cried after the battle...
Great fight song but it was definitely a wtf moment when it kicked in. “Is this still final fantasy?”
Andjelkovic Dennis: empfinde Hass gegen dich nur Hass
I'm crying too
Andjelkovic Dennis: sie hat mega Schwierigkeiten das zu akzeptieren
Shiiiiiit, this music brings me right back.... I think I should try out this HD remaster I've seen on steam, this game was amazing back in the day!
"I'm Sorry"
#LikeFatherLikeSon
Jecht is such a father. Reminds me of coming back home after a tough college semester, and my dad saying the same 😅
They needed an FMV for this scene and Auron's last words. 😢
Jecht from final fantasy was voiced by the same voice actor who played the gromble from aaahh real monsters.
I had no idea having Tidus talk did that!
I just 9999'd the shit outta him with Yuna, Auron, and Lulu
Double Cast, baby, Double Cast.
Andjelkovic Dennis: oh Gott wie ich dich hasse wenn die Möglichkeit besteht würd ich doch sofort eintauschen !
7:13 vs 7:18
Being hit by a reglamentary ball is more damaging than being sliced by a gigantic sword. JRPG at its finest.
my personal fave is ff8 but i will happily sit here and say that this is THE most memorable moment in all ff
The restrictions definitely make a few lines in the game sound weird, but the rest sounds great.
waiting for the story of Aaron, Jecht, and Yuna's father in FF10-3.
If any FF game deserves a prequel it’s FF10.
Just here watching this on Father’s Day. Some of us lost a father and some of us never met our father. Either way thank God you’re alive and well.
I don't know how many times I saw this god damn scene. After the first game over in the boss fight, you should be able to skip this cutscene
Man in my very first run of this game, I didn't train enought and that btch Seymmour killed me like 100 times at gagazet (I was really young). Had to watch the stupid cutscene everytime XD I was so mad repeating the script
Yuna: “Sir Jecht. I should...”
Jecht: “No, Yuna, there’s no time”
what exactly is yuna thinking she should do?? send jecht??
iBorder pretty much:/
I always assumed she wanted to thank him for protecting her father during his pilgrimage and wanted to apologize for how things turned out.
Jecht: I'm the best!
Kimmo Laine YOURE OUT OF YOUR LEAGUE!
YOU CANT DO IT KID!
Favorite scene of all-time favorite game (to play; in terms of story I hold VII a little higher). This game's story is so amazing and so beautifully told that I don't even mind how absolute shit I am against Braska's Final Aeon.
Ff6 is the best
What's up with Tidus' fingers at 4:03
The music is fucking badass
The fact that Jecht still has enough of himdelf in him and Tidus gets to talk to his father one last time makes the scene that much more emotional.
Son of Jecht meets Jecht
Tidus is Gohan
Jecht is Goku
Auron is Piccolo
Jechts armour is much cooler than his baby son
4:47 who else uses this song as a gym pump song? I can't be the only one
Jecht and grimlock have the same voice actor, bonus fact they're also the legacy voice of odie from Garfield
I think because it was logic I made it out live... then there is life... =)
Here's the thing, why didn't Auron help Braska defeat Jecht when Yu Yevon possessed him? Auron was still alive when Braska confronted Sin. He didn't die until after the Calm began.
Braska was dead. The final summoning killed him. And there's no way Auron, even in his prime, could take on Aeon Jecht alone.
first of ALL, how did jecht went to spira ? was he "created" by the faith like tidus ? Why did Auron went to zanarkan to bring tidus back in spira if the faith just created him ? this part is so confusing for me.
@@pezosdrare3291 he washed up on the shores of spira
Because Jecht still has control prior to becoming the new Sin, he insisted Auron to bring Tidus to Spira by entering Dream Zanarkand in hopes of ending the cycle for good.
The best Tidus could say is Hi in the high annoying voice
Steve it sounds like he said “ha” instead 😂
After Jechts comment at 1:33 Rikku looks over like "You're right. He IS a dick." Lol
well.. tidus made his promise
So he is the First and Last
Still so disappointed that they didn't make a high poly model for Jecht. It ruins the scene just a little bit.
Yep!
6, 7 , 10 had good stories. (haven't played 8 tho so idk.)
iRO 2016 8’s story is good. A lot of people don’t like the junction system for that game but in 1999, that ending was epic.
Bro you need play it and ff 9
8 and 9 are good.
My favorite story of all Final Fantasy's was actually the one from FFVII Crisis Core. It's incredibly underrated but was SO well done imo. Don't know how many times it made me cry. FFX and FFVII come right after it for me.
The face of jecht and Vincent valentine are similar and the same
