This is probably, most definitely, a personal thing, but I really hope to see an update where there's some attention given to the music and ambience audio and how you guys bring that, and with it the world around you in game, to life. Zone music (and combat music as well for that matter) can really make or break the aesthetic feel that I get from my surroundings. With sounddesign being what it is today I'm also very curious to hear what you guys can bring to the table when it comes to the natural ambience sounds in different areas, biomes, settlements and cities :D much love from the Netherlands! ♥

1:00:30 - I think it was a great idea to have the production in this episode. Really good for the community to get these insights into the coherent planning that goes into the development. Love the difficulty of the mobs. Would love it if you could get experience that makes it extra rewarding if you manage to take down something like a mob 10 levels above yours or your party's - without anyone outlevelled joining the fight. I got really hyped watching some 4-to-8 party groups farming mobs and still having to manage their health and mana.
These few days in ashes have been one of my favorites in gaming. How is an alpha scratching that nostalgic itch of immersion, excitement, and addiction so well.
Good thing is the camera (shaking) effect impacted by sorceries, you could add more, maybe like frost, fire, lightning, etc. on the sides of the viewport. Another good thing is the “bassy”, low freq sound effects on weapon impact, gives a feeling that the attacks have weight. Like in Lineage 2 with the use of soulshots and spiritshots, never felt that way in any other game, really liked that.

You know what would be cool if you could find some Divine Elemental treasures that you can install into your nodes or freehold like Divine water, fire, ice, earth, natural, metal, wind, lighting or etc. These Divine treasures would transform your nodes or freehold depending on what element it is and give them different types of buffs for profession, skills or can unlock special blueprints or items that need a Divine Element to be crafted. You could also have a recipe that allows players to absorb these Divine treasures and strengthen their skills or acquire new ones. Depending on the biomes some divine treasures could be more shot after and some might be more variable because it might lower the crafting level or help to improve items made.
Love how Steven spaces out to mock the other player who wants his loot back, and Steven misses the question being asked xD Much Love to Steven and the team, this is going to be huge!
Just some feedback, realise it's early days but I would like to see some better preset variety for the male empyreans, it's very difficult to stray much from the older looking gentleman face on them at the moment, whereas for the females you can create better variety, and you can make them conventionally attractive. Would also like the ability to make the males a tad buffer... doesn't need to be the same as the human model, but a bit more would be nice. Also noticed the facial animations were a bit odd during emotes, but I assume those will be worked on over time when more important stuff is out the way.
The foundations of the game are 90% good enough for me. I hope that you allow players to send suggestions outside of the forums and directly to you, so that you can use AI to parse through all of them and compile the most common ones and then discuss internally (and I'm not talking about carebears complaining about PvP; I'm talking about suggestions to improve the movement, dodge/stamina/sprint, auto-attack, quests, mobs/materials spawns and timers, itemization, etc.). Keep it up devs and team.
I remember DAOC. I was playing UO at the time. Yes "Uber" was an actual used word and quite alot. The way the creators love to play the game will ensure its longevity and further content creation. The game looks great. Been following the game almost since the start and it's came a really long way. Really wish I could afford to get into the alpha, but I'm broke, sadly. Can't wait to see what's done next!
Some just like to do their own thing some people just don't like to get dragged into other people's lives to get their thing done, some people just want to be left alone and progress in their own time and make their own gear and hopefully to be just as "good" as the stuff people get form huge beings or big quests.
we could have the possibility to have the raid interface even if we are only in a group ( it is more readable ) besides this game is really good so far even in alpha 2 phase really enjoying it
I love that you: stick to the concept of pushing players to group, to the concept of monthly payment, slow progression and that you are actually trying to play, even if it is only for marketing. I wish I will be play dual axe wielder arcane knight on launch!
I'd love for a showcase on the tech stack more generally, the one you did before was pretty fascinating but obviously very specialised. I'd love to see the rest of the tools you're using in the stack.
The zoomed-in view Steve uses isn't great for situational awareness but it actually looks so good. The fire and electric mage effects look incredibly crisp too btw (I wonder how much of this is UE5 and how much is Intrepid's work?)
With dual shields or using the shield as a weapon you just need to know what I called shield boxing. Basically you use the same move as you would if you are boxing, kung fu,Ta chi, Mix Martial Arts and just add a shield or two. You can also use any one handed weapon with it. I once saw a weapon master Doug Marcaida from Forge in Fire talking about a style I forgot the name of. But it was the principal of that fighting style he was describing stuck with me. That the same moves you used for a weapon can be used for unarmed combat and vice versa. Because they can use the same movement and just replace the weapon they are using. That way they don't have to learn different styles for different weapons. All you need to know is the compatibility of that weapon to the skill and does it need to be modified to better fit that weapon.
In dark souls 2 (undead crypt guardians) and later dark souls 3 (giant door shields) there are duel shield weapons. I believe if you choose tank/tank you should be able to go full defense and duel shield should be an option. If someone really wants to be a bulwark with two door sized shields protecting everyone behind them from harm they should be able to do so, why not? In my opinion a truely pure tank shield bashing and slamming is cool and deserves at least a second thought
On main game release, how much disadvantage will be between new players and the ones who had access to the game all that time? Imagine a guild that knows all the key parts needed to dominate (examples: - Take mayor spot. - Know most profitable zone spots and key monster/gear/recipe spots, which results being in demand for crafting. - Know quests that give better gear the fastest (to dominate battles vs similar lvl players who are only discovering the world)).
It would be a cool idea with if you could have passive skills that interact with the different biomes and cancel out any debuffs that some biomes might have. Like Cold or ice resistance that keeps you from losing health in colder regions. Heat resistant to not pass out in the middle of the desert from heat exhaustion. Sea legs that keep your character from sliding in a ship battle or help your character from not get sea sickness. That way unless you are a certain race who gets those passive skills for free or learn the passive skill through hard work. You can't fully interact and explore different biomes safely without those skills.
Those sorts of survival mechanics aren't intended for Ashes. Rather than overheating or freezing, you'll see things like "weakness to fire" or "weakness to ice magic". If it rains the intention is to give lightning spells to chain to nearby players. Most of this isn't in game yet but that's the direction they are going, rather than survival mechanics you'll see more unique MMO combat based around the environment.
@@ZekethePhoenixthose skills I mentioned aren't really ment to survive in the game. It meant to add more depth to the game and make it a bit more real. Because you could still get equipment or a time potion that grants you the passive skill to explore with no debuffs. The passive skills are more of a detour mechanic than a survival mechanic because it can keep some players out of certain areas that aren't ready yet and add a home field advantage to those who haven't acquired those skills yet because they can wear items that don't need passive skill and can wear the strongest armor. It can make the elves more deadly in the woods or pirates more Fear at Sea. It also makes you interact with different races to help you acquire those passive skills for different areas that different races might have.
Hey guys, Been playing since Friday, I've enjoyed traversing the map, I have a list of items, it would be amazing if you could include a bug report button in game that generates a ticket for a new issue or something, it would mean that the bugs are collated rather than the forums. On another note, a few mates advised that the website has low res images and video, it would be sick if you had a solid site up to show case not only the potential the handwork the team is doing inside.
@Steven YES your remarks at 28Mins about the visuals I COMPLETELY AGREE with I talk your guys game up about that all the time. But If I could ask the Development team a Question: Have any of them played a game called IdleON from steam? IF so will their be Mechanics that bring even the most seasoned player back to the beginning areas of the game like they do in IdleON and IF so how do you keep that from being too Overwhelming later on when you've released more and more expansions of the game?

@AshesofCreation I don't remember ever having asked such a question anywhere.: Are there plans to develop lore and the plot with the help of colorful modern plot cinematics after the release of the game, as do the "neighboring" popular mmorpg projects?
It would be great if you as a player could customize/change in settings menu the brightness, contrast and size of spell effects of party members and your own in menu so that players who dont want to be distracted by all bright disney colours produced by other players eg, still can clearly see their opponents and be able to react to their actions
Why does every action in combat consist of bright flashing lights? A battle looks like a garish multicoloured fireworks display. Where's the realism? Where's the blood, gore, gibs? Is this game aimed at 7-year-olds or adults?
For a game that has M rating, it surely doesn't utilize it fully-I agree. My main issue is that ranger seems like a caster class that pulls out arrows out of nowhere. Also, there is no quiver.
Hate to break it to you but not every adult thinks gore is better. I don’t think that level of realism and darkness would match the game. Some of us like power fantasy and this fits more of a dnd roots of the genre with powers and magic.
@@BloodDrenched-y6i Lol, that's a highly ironic take, considering your user name. Also, even the earliest DnD games did have gibbing and gore. (BG, PS:T). I recently finished BG3 and it's supremely gory.
Colorful explosions are easier to make than realistic physics. It seems that the MMORPG genre in general just purposefully blocks itself off from a combat system more similar to Mount and Blade or Witcher 3 (And yes MB does have multiplayer with good hitreg so being SP games isn't an argument). In my opinion low fantasy combat that is mostly realistic with "soft" magic is a lot more enjoyable than just everything being flashy and colorful, but I think most MMO players disagree.
About the graphics I think they people mean is the it looks a little bit like guild wars 2 in unreal engine 5. I remember the stream when Steven introduced UE5 for ashes and it looked great there. Somehow in the alpha too the bloom maybe too much or something is missing.
Ce que je trouve bien c'est la barre de mana qui peut etre lente a se régénérer sa donne parfois un côté plus dur pour les cbt que dans certain jeu ta l'impression d'avoir une infinité de mana
So for a player to gain corruption you can't even hit them back to defend yourself? That just makes for either an easy kill or lack of a corruption mechanic depending on what the attacked player chooses to do. The corruption gain would make more sense upon the initial attack but only apply after the current combat ends. It would help against people harassing/drawing out a battle, just hitting others to get them to die to mobs on repeat, etc.
@@jakenbake8855 nah i think i was just in a bit of a mood this morning, and dealing with some game mechanics that shouldb't exist in a game in 2024 kind of annoyed me
Jacob @ 1:02. Well said. That vertical slice is so important, progress in software is pretty deceiving from the outside. It's repeatable by nature so a massively disproportionate amount of the effort goes into the first real implementation ("MLP"). I'm personally very glad you decided to ditch (de-prioritise!) node types, race choices, summoner & rogue in favour of systems, stability and what looks to me like a fair bit of polish too!
Question: So, you said if your game crashes do to the server, it’ll only affect that area and not the whole server. But, does that mean if other people walk in to that area their game will crash as well? Every person that walks by that server area will be crashing?
Ok, Now this is what you need to do. Add a MOBA PvP mode in Ashes of Creation. Do that and you will break every other MMO in the market. It´s the perfect fit. A 5x5, you have your tank, your support, DPS, Assassin, etc. Just do that and you will have the best MMO in the history. Make it ranked. Thank me later.
I've been playing alpha 2, does everyone feel comfortable with the amount of crafting stations that are currently in the game? For example there is a station just for crafting a fishing rod. It feels a bit redundant, but I would like to hear some opinions on this. Speaking of crafting, every little thing requires fuel which also feels bad, I think there should be some exceptions to this. Like crafting a herb into a powder should not require fuel. Nor should it cost money, Money and fuel should be used for maybe crafting end items. speaking of end items, it seems there are quite a few required items for crafting anything with no way to know where to find these. This is just my initial feedback on it. It's A2 so everything is subject to change.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not make the new world mistake at launch with server sizes. Please make sure players can load in without waiting. Whatever number you’re planning, quadruple it.
Not biting. Just put some servers up perm and then charge. Put up a HUGE disclaimer, something like, "This game is pretty F'd right now, and most of the shit don't work G. Give it a go and send us some feedback muthalicka"
Will we be able to rotate the camera without the mouse? FFXI Online is the only mmorpg I've played that allowed full camera control without using the mouse. Currently we can zoom in but not out using the keyboard.
Please consider reducing corruption penalties for fair pvp (vs similar or higher level). We should be able to at least threaten someone with death (eg if competing for resources) without such a heavy penalty. The deterrent massively outweighs the crime here. Yes yes I know it's an Alpha, v early days but we have a decent idea of the intentions already.
@@hfztt I understand that, I'm not asking for it to swing the other way. It seems the goal here is to disincentivise PvP against those who don't want it. Great. My concern is primarily the dynamics between those who generally do, but can lean on the system to avoid it when it doesn't suit them. I just hope they review this at least, which I'm sure they will as I imagine they review everything. 🤞
The reason its so high atm is to prevent griefing and to allow people to test instead of people knowing their characters will get wiped and just going ape shit. Iirc steven said they basicalled 2-3X'd the corruption penalties for A2.
@jinglyjones1677 No problem I think it was one of the final streams before this weekend test but can't remember which one. But yes current corruption penalties and rate of going corrupted is much much higher than they plan to have it but they use it as a safety net.

This game reminds me of Star Citizen (in a good way). A small group of people trying to build something the big developers have failed to build for decades. What people should realise by now is it takes less time to make the terrible games we have been subjected to for decades (there is a reason WoW hasnt been toppled from its throne yet) than it does to make the game we ACTUALLY want to play. If we don't allow dev studios like Intrepid and CIG to rise up (which takes time) and break the cycle, we will have bad games forever. Capitalism is not our freind, we NEED people to want to do this and we should support them as much as we can. Looking forward to playing AoC someday. The big payoff for us is that these guys redefine the standard and in future other developers with massive budgets will have no choice but to up their games. We all win if Intrepid and CIG win.
The fact you guys enjoy playing your own game so much is a good sign. You devs have passion for your game.

I got really hyped watching some 4-to-8 party groups farming mobs and still having to manage their health and mana.
Jacob, love that line! Setting people up to succeed!
Like in Lineage 2 with the use of soulshots and spiritshots, never felt that way in any other game, really liked that.
amazing!!! Watching this project come to fruition is just incredible. long way to go but its pretty cool being part of the ride. I backed the game in 2018 and im finally in the world you all are creating! i love how your staff are so bought into the project bringing back that old school mmo feel you dont see anymore and you dont seem to advert and cater to the WoW generation whiny bois🤣
keep doin ya thing boys and girls!!
im so jazzed about when this game goes live, my friends and i are soooooo looking forward to playing this game and starting some new memories, of fanciful awesomeness to get away from reality. I was a shaman in everquest, this game brings back alot of memories of which i would like to add to.
Our guild is already hooked. Bring on the weekend!
Best dev team EVAR!
Love it. The world is just beautiful and amazing. Having a blast. Keep Pushing !
Love how Steven spaces out to mock the other player who wants his loot back, and Steven misses the question being asked xD
Much Love to Steven and the team, this is going to be huge!
!0:15 to 10:30, give this guy a raise, he loves you Steven. LOL..
We appreciate the feedback! We shall continue to build out the character creator and add more options in the future!
Keep it going guys, the game looks absolutley promising!
I have been very impressed considering this is the first weekend of A2! The combat feels great so far!
I remember DAOC. I was playing UO at the time. Yes "Uber" was an actual used word and quite alot.
The way the creators love to play the game will ensure its longevity and further content creation. They srsly got something here......Something..........special. The world, despite alpha blues, is very immersive and it only takes seconds to completely engulf you and give you the feeling you really are ridding across the world to meet your friends =P
2 more sleeps to next test weekend!
As someone who has been Project Manager through a few Agile projects, I would like to offer my congratulations at making it through your first weekend with the -riff-raff- customers. That went about as well as could be expected!
Hope the corporate therapist isn't too overworked and your firewall suppliers are responding. Just want to give admiration and support for what you guys are doing and maybe boost morale. There are a lot of us out here who get what WE are doing and are grateful for the opportunity to help and participate.
Despite the Agile naming, it is a marathon not a sprint. Keep up the good work and remember to sleep and have fun!
Don't lock too much behind jumping puzzles. I'm fine with them, but my partner hates them, so I have to do all of them twice.
This is hilarious, I'm the same way 😂
@@dupestv 😆
I'm your partner because I also hate jumping puzzles. I have straight up quit games when I'm 75% through the game because im a completionist and I cannot reach something.
@@jessechristensen1074 Yeah, and when you quit I'm stuck playing it alone.
Testing over the weekend was a lot of fun. Even for a solo
Looking forward to see where you are in 5 years, hopefully ready for 1.0 launch.
Game needs a lot of work. The environments are stunning and beautiful. Very excited and hope Intrepid takes the time to get it right before launch.
I'm going to dig for those easter eggs right when I start playing
I'm having fun playing with others in AoC, making friends.😀 Being incentivized to play with others makes me SO happy when playing...I'm rather isolated where I live, but I'm going to be making AoC friends! Edit, I just saw Margaret's family grew! Wishing much love and support to the Krohn Family!💪💞
The game looks great. Been following the game almost since the start and it's came a really long way. Really wish I could afford to get into the alpha, but I'm broke, sadly. Can't wait to see what's done next!
I think following the development has hyped my anticipation for the game to come out
Some just like to do their own thing some people just don't like to get dragged into other people's lives to get their thing done, some people just want to be left alone and progress in their own time and make their own gear and hopefully to be just as "good" as the stuff people get form huge beings or big quests.
I pay too much attention to everything. You guys are doing an amazing job!
we could have the possibility to have the raid interface even if we are only in a group ( it is more readable ) besides this game is really good so far even in alpha 2 phase
really enjoying it
I love that you: stick to the concept of pushing players to group, to the concept of monthly payment, slow progression and that you are actually trying to play, even if it is only for marketing. I wish I will be play dual axe wielder arcane knight on launch!
Congrats Margaret we got a future MMOplayer his perfect we all thank you good job
게임이 정말 멋지네요. 만약 출시하게 되면 제일 먼저 하고 싶을 정도네요.
한국어도 지원이 된다면 정말 몰입이 끝내줄거 같아요
I started out in EQ and Asheron's Call! I would so love to work on a project like this MMO!
I'd love for a showcase on the tech stack more generally, the one you did before was pretty fascinating but obviously very specialised. I'd love to see the rest of the tools you're using in the stack.
The lighting is looking a lot better or is it just me?
Please fix the floatyness. The characters don’t feel connected to the ground. It’s Tokyo drift out here 😂
The zoomed-in view Steve uses isn't great for situational awareness but it actually looks so good.
The fire and electric mage effects look incredibly crisp too btw (I wonder how much of this is UE5 and how much is Intrepid's work?)
King of the mmorpg for next decades ❤
God I can't wait for official release. This will be my main mmo!
I wish you make such an UI so no mods will be required to play the game and turn it into "game of numbers", especially with such great visuals.
Can't wait for this game!
Im so excited
8 november , lest go baby
Locations will be randomized on full release, If i remember it correctly. Entire map is made of blocks.
@@sospokemika1197that and nearly everything will be on UA-cam anyways.
That discrepancy will not be much of an issue a month or two after launch, and non-existent a year later.
the animations look really good. i havent seen recent updates, so maybe the animations are old, but for me its new.
Hold Up. Margaret Krohn? As in Layla,The Vampire Slayer !?J4D3? I didn't know if she was still around. Glad to see you doing well for yourself
When your holding a greatsword, you run like you need to poop. Other than that im content with what is available so far :D
Ashes of Creation is shaping up to be more true to Archeage than Archeage chronicles.
Hey guys,
Been playing since Friday, I've enjoyed traversing the map, I have a list of items, it would be amazing if you could include a bug report button in game that generates a ticket for a new issue or something, it would mean that the bugs are collated rather than the forums.
On another note, a few mates advised that the website has low res images and video, it would be sick if you had a solid site up to show case not only the potential the handwork the team is doing inside.
You mean the /bug feature?
Love that flame tree artwork behind Bryan. Is that a wall paper we might see available on the site some day?
“He’s chasing me! He’s chasing me! He’s chasing me!” Ingrained in my mind forever. One of the crap-all funniest moments right there…
@Steven YES your remarks at 28Mins about the visuals I COMPLETELY AGREE with I talk your guys game up about that all the time.
So I participated in the Kickstarter back in 2017, with the 500something dollar package and due to life circumstances I haven't been home in a few years. I remember the email I used to participate, and I did do what I think was the first alpha test with the little battle royal style combat, but this is a new computer and idk how I could get back what I paid for..... Can y'all help? I'd like to play as this moves into beta and beyond because
1. obviously I invested a bit into it, in both time and money
2. it still looks to be the most promising MMO, in my opinion
If I could email y'all or have some more private communication to figure it out that would be awesome
*Enjoying testing the game, response time to bugs and crashes has been great!*
*No Halloween in game, or in stream is a glaring omission.*
*Are you skipping ExtraLife too?*
@AshesofCreation
I don't remember ever having asked such a question anywhere.:
Are there plans to develop lore and the plot with the help of colorful modern plot cinematics after the release of the game, as do the "neighboring" popular mmorpg projects?
yes 10 years later they will get to that and u can pay to test it
It would be great if you as a player could customize/change in settings menu the brightness, contrast and size of spell effects of party members and your own in menu so that players who dont want to be distracted by all bright disney colours produced by other players eg, still can clearly see their opponents and be able to react to their actions
Mana break.. have fond memories or this in DAOC :)
@@GODOBER As someone who is sick of flashy MMOs, I agree with you.
Korean MMOs gave me this fatigue of over the top effects.
Wait you get what he had in the inventory? Not bad :D
It would help against people harassing/drawing out a battle, just hitting others to get them to die to mobs on repeat, etc.
i had to stop playing alpha 2, and it isn't a lack of content or anything, its the mechanics that got me right now, ill try again later maybe idk
Understandable, not everyone has the endurance to be a play tester and deal with issues.
@@jakenbake8855 nah i think i was just in a bit of a mood this morning, and dealing with some game mechanics that shouldb't exist in a game in 2024 kind of annoyed me
@@perry.padgettAoC doesn’t want to be a 2024 mmorpg. That’s what the whole game is about. And I think that’s good.
@@SpiDey1500 im talking about the monster tagging system, kind of outdated to have a bunch of people standing around waiting for a mob to spawn.
Those new cleric effects are niceee compared to the effects in the cleric reveal video
Question:
So, you said if your game crashes do to the server, it’ll only affect that area and not the whole server.
Will there be a class combination that would be close to a monk who fights with his bare hands in martial arts?
Looks really beautiful but tap target feels antique
Quite seriously, you should get Margaret to narrate the official trailer(s) 01:23
Will we be able to rotate the camera without the mouse? FFXI Online is the only mmorpg I've played that allowed full camera control without using the mouse. Currently we can zoom in but not out using the keyboard.
Can't wait for Bard Fortnite dances.
Need to see cleric get a simple melee ability bruh
Please consider reducing corruption penalties for fair pvp (vs similar or higher level). We should be able to at least threaten someone with death (eg if competing for resources) without such a heavy penalty. The deterrent massively outweighs the crime here.
Yes yes I know it's an Alpha, v early days but we have a decent idea of the intentions already.
You should go to the lawless zones for that experience. If the penalty is not a bit harsh, the game will end as pure PvP.
@@MirukuESO ahhh did he, I missed that if so. Good to hear, thanks.
@jinglyjones1677 No problem I think it was one of the final streams before this weekend test but can't remember which one. But yes current corruption penalties and rate of going corrupted is much much higher than they plan to have it but they use it as a safety net.
Just watching this now but should I still post about crowd control on the forum? A comment of mine two updates got like 100 upvotes on UA-cam, about CC.
Please help fixing out of video memory issue, really wanna play this game smoothly instead of crashing out randomly
Gameplay seems cool but graphics look old like wows ! I would suggest sexier clothes too 🤪. Can’t wait to play! ❤
Plz add Mouse sensitivity settings. Trying to move with a mouse the way it is feels very sluggish.
How do I go about buying Jacob's hoodie? Take my money!
7 more years and it's gonna look like it's not stuck in 2012...
29:57 So LOS isn't a thing thus far?
Please give us a date :( Let me play this game im waiting 6 years :((((((
yes yes i know a game must get work on it, but man, i didnt even played alphas :(
This game reminds me of Star Citizen (in a good way).
