The former bass man of the multi-platinum selling vocal harmony group The Overtones turned solo, Lockie Chapman’s voice is instantly recognisable with his warm and sultry bass tones, while also possessing the ability to sing soulful and powerful lead parts with his trademark grit and open ‘ah’ sound. Since 2019, Lockie departed from The Overtones after the tragic death of the band’s lead singer Timmy Matley to find his own way with music. In 2021, he released his first solo studio EP and tours round the UK performing at multiple venues. Although he may no longer be performing for the Royal family at the Queen’s diamonds Jubilee in front of 250,000 people or headlining the London Palladium, he now has time to express himself in other art forms. A keen actor and painter, Lockie has also appeared in Channel’s ‘Crashing’, and more recently, Bourgeois & Maurice’s musical comedy ‘Insane Animals’ as lead villain Gilgamesh.
Questionable Notes:
E5 - The Durham Dash - non-melodic exclamatory note. Might be worth counting but not really sure
x4/5 - Various - non-melodic whoops/woos not worth counting and no sustained pitch
A1 - Love song - doesn't exist
x1 - Various - non-melodics drops and roll offs not worth counting and no sustained pitch
F#1 - The Problem of Death - arguably non-melodic and not worth counting but in my opinion it is sustained a bit. Lockie also confirmed to me F#1 is his lowest note
Thanks to Lockie himself who was kind enough to help me make this video
Probably the last video I'm going to be able to get out before I go back to uni in about 2 weeks. Sorry. Probably expect the next upload at Christmas lol
I don't own any of the music or pictures of anything really to be honest
So what do we think then? I know a lot of this audience is from an acapella fanbase, and to be honest I think he would've made a pretty formidable acapella bass (eg 11:40) and hopefully he gets more recognised within this community. He was primarily used as a bass harmony with the Overtones and not a super low one trick bass used to show off, so his low end was generally used with a specific melodic/harmonic purpose and not just for vibrations. That said, it did make some of the notes in his low end hard to find - I could only find about 3 studio recorded Eb2s lmao but maybe I just wasn't concentrating lol

Impressive off-mic sound too...
That voice has a quality which defies explanation - it can only be felt! Where are you Lockie, we want more!!!!
Your personality and voice are amazing ❤
What a tone he has! Such a good singer, thanks for showing more of this man to me! I love the off mic's records.
He is so versatile with that voice, it would be great to see him doing theater
Wow, he‘s REALLY good! I‘m surprised that I haven’t heard of him before.
i've been a bit of a silent fan of his for a while now so im glad someone made a video on him

You introduce this guy to me and wow ! He is nuts !
Pretty good right
super underrated bass singer. love how smooth and easy his lows sound down to Bb1. his high end sounds pretty confident for someone with that extensive of a low range too. this is kind of an odd and random question but whats ur take on marwan aymans voice type?
When I heard him sing Say A Little Prayer for the first time, I was completely taken aback, it just blew me away and replayed it like eight times. Sorry they split up, they were magnificent.
this guy has such a good tone with his singing voice. I can't exactly explain it!
what an impressive voice ! thanks for your work Matthew, keep doing it !
I find his voice similiar to Avi Kaplan's
Soft and warm low range

Anyone what the food for worms song is?
F#1 was actually an F1
Oh
He’s dipped a few times lower to around E1 at the lowest I think but far too brief to be counted
Where we can chat? I need to chat with you.
Oops sorry I forgot to reply. I only communicate through UA-cam comments
@@matthewdockray9745 that sadly, because i want to share with you some private videos of basses that you like
When new videos??
No idea. I have no inspiration atm. Not sure what to make. Maybe a part 2 for bass singers’ lowest and highest notes. I’m coming up to a holiday and break from uni work so maybe something in the next month. No guarantees
