This feels like a story about dementia. Maybe it's because my grandfather just passed away because of it 2 weeks ago, and my grandmother memory is diminishing as well. I was just blessed that neither one forgot about the people who is important to them.
I was dumb enough, not to understand it at first but thanks to all you lovely people, whose comments made it clearer to me. Thank you , beautiful people. And Thank you, for sharing such an awesome creative experience, film makers.
Through each such tale that slowly fade,
Time's a thief that can't be trade.
It reeks to take the former life,
Down to last but ache and strife.
Lost from thought, a guide to light,
That shine the way to past in sight.
For inch a day such age grew short,
Closer and closer, their love was sort.
Until the ending, I was actually thinking it's about prosopagnosia, but ugh, no, it's something even more painful and beautiful.
The newspapers are written in Esperanto, by the way, for everyone wondering.
I think of this like a reoccurring episode that plays over and over from the beginning. Every time, it steals a couple more "faces" and progresses a little further, before he beats it and remembers. The disease(going with alzheimer's) takes hold a little more each time.
This was pretty much the final episode. It was close. He was going to be gone forever, but she managed to bring him back, one last time.
Yeah, I also think that he was originally trying to help the girl remember everything, but he forgot in the process.
nice likes my guy
shut up ben

Brilliant twist ending. Really touching
Saw this last year and it still has the power to bring me to tears.
didn't expect to cry. 10/10 cried.
That*s true!
I think I've watched this over a dozen times. Each time the ending makes me cry. I can't exactly pin down why. The music. The clear symbolism. The actors. Maybe even the silence of voices and sounds.
But every single time. When she gives him back his face, returns to him who he is, after he faced his demon for her... Ah feck it, starting to tear up writing about it.
Bravo! Absolutely brilliant! and thank you to all who provided feedback. You helped me to understand the depth of this masterful work. If I weren't so old, full of regret and under-educated I would've come up with more ways to express how great this piece was and how masterful it was presented. Damn I wish I still had tear ducts. This was something else. The best animated short by far in many years of viewing. Muchos Gracias, students of 'Escuela, de Primer Frame 3D Animation en Espania Valencia. Your degrees were well earned.
Kevin Thompson Don't worry. I'm in the same boat, & I cried enough for both of us (& then some).
Are they talking about alzheimer's disease ?!
10/10 definitely, but if so, 200/10!
+Swan Electro that's what I got out of it
Swan Electro Roger that.👌
FANTASTIC..... in both senses of the word.....
What an incredible 12minutes of cinema !!!
Unbelievable, tension, shock, fear, suspense, mystery, and even heart-warming love.... and not a word spoken !!!
Brilliant..... and kudos to the STUDENTS who created it.....
One of the best short films I have ever seen...
I got through Clannad, Anohana, and Angel beats without so much as tearing up. This... this got me.
Beautifully well done.
I love the combination of noir, horror, otherworldliness, epicness and a touching end.
Wow, just wow...and when I realised what a face thief realy was, I was just blown away...brilliant movie.
Such imagination you have. Such a beautiful mind you have. Such a wonderful creation you have made.
I don't understand how U guys have gone unnoticed...
As a retired nurse who for many years who cared for Alzheimer and dementia patients, I agree with many of the comments here that this story, done excellently, is about the progression and losses associated with the various forms of dementia. Well done.
I remember what it was like going through with my grandma back in the 80's/90's when she had this awful disease and everything she lost and could not remember. This made me cry
This struck me to my very soul and brought tears to my eyes as memories flooded my thoughts.
Fantastic! I was moved to tears and that does not happen very often. Alzheimers and dementia are horrible illnesses.
I thought it was just a weird short film till the end. Now it's one of my favourite short films!!
I hope everyone who worked on this finds success paralleled by few someday.
I was enjoying this thoroughly, and the end is genius. Literally cried, as in tears rolling down my face.
I see that it has lots of awards. I think that they all are deserved.
Was wondering what all the fuss was about the ending, until I saw the ending myself. Really did not expect that, it was beautiful
The last minute and a half is EASILY the best CGI to date, can't believe artist's like these are only making shorts and not full length feature films, incredible.
Wow. This was so bizarre and trippy to me at first, it seemed to make no sense at all, and I had no idea what was up with the human centipede/dementor thing appearing in this noir detective animation. Then it got to the end and it turned out the dementor thingy was dementia, and I was like... mind. blown.
Great going with the twist, and great going illustrating how horrifying it is to lose the ability to remember your loved ones, the end was so emotional. Well done, guys.
Excellent. Very poignant. Powerful.
Didn't see that coming at the end... Very nice by the way, really liked this one.
Excelente, difícil encontrar algo que te sorprenda en estos tiempos. Excelente música, hilo de la historia, personajes y final.
Regaining oneself through moments of clarity. Great film.
Wow wow wow. This is one of the most heart felt animations I have ever seen.
Thats for me beautifully powerful;lly metaphoric. Wanna hear more ask please.i am crying I am so touched//Jaan
I cried because my grandmother has Alzheimer's and I can't talk to her .....she doesn't always remember me.
Me: "I don't get it... This makes no sense... decent animation but I don't really like it... 3/10... Would not watch again..."
The ENDING: "OMG IT ALL MAKES SENSE! 20/10! GREAT ENDING!" D=
Now thats one well made short, the story concept was confusing at first but then at the end you realize what the plot is about, also i loved the smoke effect.
Wow... That was the most powerful representation of Alzheimer disease I have ever seen... The thing with many hands that takes parts of your life away, takes parts of you away.
There is nothing more I can possibly add, than all the very touching responses already shared regarding this amazing piece, and the other rare gems we are so blessed to come across at times here...however, what a gift it is, when we can step away from the tragedy in the world and perhaps our lives for a moment, to share as beautiful and as profound a gift as this together. WOW...
OMGAWD!!! I BAWLED when I figured out at the end what this was about...then the whole "short" made sense... I'm still crying...
(6/28/20 3:48 AM) I was speaking to my parents earlier. Nothing out of the ordinary, but something feels off. It made me see they’re aging.
Rewatching this made me tear up for the first time.
What a perfect rendition of the fear, paranoia, and loss of Alzheimer's.
Bravo. Es que simplemente, bravo.
What an utterly beautiful film!
So powerful, so moving....true art.
OMG, this is absolutely extraordinary, brilliant presentation!!!
Quite an impressive animated short!
No dialog, just imagery & music. Somehow it conveys a story, evokes emotion and moves the viewer from beginning through the end seamlessly. We are then 'faced' with the reality that the characters memories are what they are really trying to hold on to. Fantastic work.
That was the most creative and impactful short I've ever seen.
Awesome! Outstanding! One of the best shorts I've ever seen! All long you think you're watching some fantasy / horror anim, and then come the ending... it's really beautiful and touching.
Old age gonna be a bummer...
Epic! Had everything in this one. Whomever came up with this concept has some life experience and weaved it into brilliant story.
What a dramatic face-off
This is just "over the top" awesome..........! Thanks to everyone involved.........
Awesome. Everything. Nearly cried.
THE FEELS. All the feels. Well done!
Wow, twist ending for the sadness... Really well done animation, although I agree that adding sound effects, and not just a sound track, could help. Very creative and enjoyable.
I wish I could give this more likes. This is amazing!

That ending tho-
Alzheimer's, it's a terrible disease. Your memories disappear one by one, like forgetting faces, till there's nothing left. But sometimes the one who loves you most can help you to remember.
On The Balcony With Kat Couldn't have said it better. Love is the key.
Man, the feels
I JUST WATCHED IT AGAIN AND UNDERSTOOD THE ENDING
HOLY OMIWOW.
It shows the chaotic mind of an Alizhemers sufferer. The confusion of remembering only small sections of your life. People, you can't put a face to a person, not a wife, a Daughter, son, husband. Quite often, you become locked inside this fractured world that once you knew so well, that now has become your enemy. Deaf to voices, not recognising words, that's why the film used minimal sound. You watch people's lips move, you know they're talking to you, but you don't understand them.
Then occasionally, you become lucid, people you only half remembered, you know you know them, their name, relationship to you, it comes clear.
Reprieve can be brought about by medical intervention, drugs that stimulate your memory areas, mood stabilisers to control the erratic mood swings, temper and violent behaviours. Antidepressants to help keep the dark hopelessness that comes from being aware of the changes that are happening.
Or, it can be something totally idiopathic, one day confusion, wandering off looking for where you worked 40 years ago, back to the present day. The film did a good job of creating a fractured mind.
Very well done. The transition to reality was a bit jarring; but I don't know how else it could have been done. Maybe a fade from puppet hands to real hands? Anyway -- powerful film.
Wow, that was amazing! Animation, story, acting… wow!
Man, that is so heartbreaking. :(
I was NOT....ready for that.....
So powerful.
The journey through a door to try to lead someone somewhere out of a pit of darkness that was stealing faces (memories).
You don't know until the end when you see the wife was trying all along to help her husband's struggle to return - who has Alzheimer's - to remember long lost faces by showing him a photo album.
She was able to break through, if only for a moment, for him to recognize her ... such a horrible disease that has no cure to this day.
Beautiful imagery.._we are all but-one with the person we are...enjoy this life, treat others fairly, respect ur elders, and love...love ...love with all ur heart bc one day u will be forgotten...so love all u can...
that ending. holy smokes. you just earned my sub
Oh shit, best dramatic/action short movie ever
This is amazing. The whole plot was brilliant and the ending was so good. 10/10
Ahhh, such a well made animation! I didn't expect so much feels in the end!
Best short in all youtube. Speechless
It looks like a lovecraft story and I love it.
great, great it all hit home at the end.
Comicbooks to animattion and now to cgi..
What next.!???
Exciting!!
Juz hope they could cgis all those great comics like Silver Surfer etc etc
Truly stunning.
Master piece about the mind that cannot remember the faces of people anymore, even from those that he loves dearly... I had these symptoms when I was young, due to having 6 grams of mercury in my mouth from dental amalgams... Took a long time to recover somewhat.. Still have problems with names and faces, but not as severe, now that I am 62 years of age..
I still keeping that very classic SINGER sewing machine.
I can totally imagine this as an episode of Doctor Who... Love the story, well done!
It kind of was! Except that was with a radio lady stealing them through television sets... I think this was a much more masterful story. Gosh, and the animation was spectacular. It bought me to tears 3:)
True! There was an episode similar to this, in a way.
Jesus fucking christ, i love videos with a story like this.
Oh wow, I’m totally speechless. ❤
Not gonna lie....I got a little teary at the end there
I love that smokey jazz detective music can’t find any other music as fitting as this can anyone tell me the name of it or even recommend one that sounds similar?
Excellent, very good pace and soundtrack, thanx for all your hard work..
O....m.....g....that was worth the tears, 100% worth the tears. 💯💯💯
wunderkind! Fantastic! STUPENDOUS! First I thought TWAS him. Then I suspected her. Never would I have suspected TIME as the real FACE THIEF!
Wow the feels are highly unexpected
Great video
Facing the aging process and the potential for the disintegration of the mind. Time is the ravaging face thief and no matter how much detective work is put into trying to mitigate it only acceptance can ease the pain of change. Cleverly told story. Also, very sad for everyone.
Perfect end! Really shock!
Heh...published on my 16th birthday...Wow, that was a powerful film, fucking beautiful.
