I am 16 and I have completed the hundred mile on the AT and I have climbed Katahdin 3 times, the first time when I was ten. I am very excited for this documentary and I loved the time I spent on the trail and the extremely interesting people I met.
Thank you my friend. I had fun last summer feeding thru hikers in SNP on several occasions. Then I would ask for an interview. Not one of them said no. I got about 60 interviews, they got their bellies filled with delicious food. You probably knew some of them. I wish you had been one of them. You project a great enthusiasm for the trail. The head shots of ALL of them can be found in a 2012 thru hikers album I have on FB. Oh, and yea I've been using Premiere cs5 for a couple years.
Looks like a fascinating look into the subjective impressions of those who are familiar with the Appalachian Trail and the thru-hikers who journey through it. Can't wait for the finished product!
This hiking trailer is awesome. I want to be in it. I hope to see you on the trail, sometime. Really looking forward to seeing the finished film. Continued blessings to you.
I recall he had been hiking in his Crocks for a couple hundred miles when we met. As a "sandal" hiker myself I have to say he seemed very comfortable in those Crocks. I wonder how long he kept it up?
Thank you. I was a bit surprised that it went so smooth. I interviewed 16 hikers, but made some mistakes. I didn't hit record on the H4n with one interview. I also seemed to have lost two interviews to a CF card (Transcend 32GB 400x) that is giving me an "ERR 70" on my camera. Do you recommend using the SDHC cards? SanDisk? Maybe 8GB? I got home last night and waiting for me was a box from KEH. Upon inspection the lens looks to be in nice shape. It has a loose slide, but not super loose.
I'm impressed as hell. A couple of the interviews were in wind that was troublesome. I had resigned to the fact that it would show up in post and for better or worse listeners would have to deal with it. Not the case, in fact your Redhead worked flawless. That thing loves a stiff breeze.
Me, I've covered every inch of the trail 7 times. Some sections even more than that. It's just a good place for the soul. I mean I had a cooler of soda, bagels and cream cheese for the hikers. They were about in tears when they saw it.
Yes, over pizza that's right! Yea, it was just an idea at that point, nothing was on paper. I have really been surprised. The "Thru Hikers" I am able to intercept on the AT have all said yes to interviews. 26 so far. I lure them with food. Cold beer, soda, cream cheese, bagels... Thanks CB. I appreciate that.
Dude....I can't decide whether you capture humans or nature in a better light. Either way you do a phenomenal job at allowing stories to unfold. You're definitely a natural with the camera. Are you editing in Premiere, FCP or Avid?
This is great stuff! are you going to release the completed film on You Tube? if not how will you? Look forward to seeing more from this incredible insight into the trail and thru hikers :-)
As Forest Gump once said; "I've worn lots of shoes". A metaphor for relating to a number of situations. I just happen to be able to relate to "theirs". For which I am obliged.
The film is still in production. and will be for sometime as I am doing everything myself. The good news is that you won't have to buy it. It was always my intention to make this film free to the public. The film will be posted to this channel when it is complete.
I thru hiked with Chacos for awhile, until the snow got too deep. Switched over to keen sandals and never really looked back. About the same sandal anyway, give or take.
Kookiemoose - was this what we talked about over pizza in Baltimore? Awesome, Fantastic, Truly people on a quest - NOBODY can tell the story like the one that's lived each chapter already! You need anything - I'm in! CB
Well you've just informed me of things that up until now I was unaware of, and never really took into consideration. I will admit that I have bought cards for their price point, and for the 7D that was never a problem. And if a SanDisk Pro can keep up with the GH2 then it should be a breeze with the 5D mk iii. Thank you sir.
You are definitely missing something and it is sad that you came to that conclusion so quickly. People discover there true selves on the trial and it is an amazing experience... no matter who you are.
If this is the Tickle Monster who became Hug Bug, he was wearing his crocs until they gave him big foot trouble in PA, then he got boots. I'm a fan of Chacos myself; my sons and I hiked over 1000 miles on a single pair :)
And -- an old Transcend compact flash card wasn't designed to handle ALL-I at 91 Mbps. For ALL-I you want either Sandisk or Lexar cards that significantly exceeds the minimum requirements -- because most cards don't perform as well as they're rated.
Heads exploded in the DREWnetwork accounting office. They suggest "Sam's Club" soda along with "Sam's Club" chips along with "Sam's Club" salsa for the next shoot.
Day one of shooting tally; 5 cases of soda, 3 cases of beer, 1 half gallon of Bourbon, 6 lbs of cookies, 1/2 gallon of salsa, 4lbs of chips, 1 jar of Nutella, 1 gallon of juice, 1 gallon of Gatoraid, 3lbs of cream cheese, 35 feet of Tyvek, 30 Bagels, and 1 2lb block of cheese. Good grief those hikers could eat.
I recommend throwing away anything with "Transcend" written on it. They are junk, and for four years I've been dealing with kids who get every kind of failure with Transcend cards -- they blame their camera -- and insist there's no difference between cheap cards and quality cards. On the other hand is me -- I've only bought Sandisk pro cards -- and in four years I've never had a single card error of any kind in any way. Not one single card error. Not one. CF vs. SDHC isn't the issue.

Nicely shot....I look forward to seeing the complete film. Your skills as a film maker always amaze me.

PS: I love how this trailer was flawless in it's auditory execution!

Interesting prospective Mate!! How many times have you made that Trek!!☺

Well done, Sir! Inspiring and enticing to get out and explore America's majesty!
subscribed - can't wait to see it! I'd love to do a thruhike one of these days!
Thank you. The very top apexing hairs of your Redhead can be seen in most of the interview shots. Just thought you'd get a kick out of knowing that.
Really great job on this trailer. This project looks exciting!
No kidding! I've been following his videos, they're great!
...oh and thank you.

any estimation of when it will be done? no rush just excited to see it. looks like it will be good

Awesome project. I'm anticipating!
There's a link to the song (Years) in the description box below the video player. Free download

@jobrewerful I would like that. I'm up in SNP this morning in fact. He's still south of here though.
Thanks so much my friend.
i leave in 1 day...ready for this adventure for round 2...Spinger bound
Great song in the background. What's the name of it?
Sam's Club, yes that sounds fine. Going to Sam's Club will save me a trip to the Blue Seal feed store.
You are definitely missing something and it is sad that you came to that conclusion so quickly. People discover there true selves on the trial and it is an amazing experience... no matter who you are.
Very nice!
It seems very ineresting hike in peaceful place.
Thank you. Not sure really, I guess so. I'm just sort of winging it.
perhaps the music is a bit too dramatic but nevertheless. I like it. Is one of the hikers talking DOS aka Two Isles?

The good news is that the track will not be in the film. The answer to your question is; yes.
And -- an old Transcend compact flash card wasn't designed to handle ALL-I at 91 Mbps. For ALL-I you want either Sandisk or Lexar cards that significantly exceeds the minimum requirements -- because most cards don't perform as well as they're rated.
Exactly! thank you.
@jobrewerful Thanks for the info. I'll be shooting in the Big Meadows area of SNP (Shenandoah National Park) on June 16-17.
My trail name is "Early Riser" I hiked in 1990
kookiemoose What is the status of the film? See lots of promos from 2012, is it still in the making?
thank you!
Nice video, I would love to do this with my wife.
The trail has a voice......
yes...many in fact.
Heads exploded in the DREWnetwork accounting office. They suggest "Sam's Club" soda along with "Sam's Club" chips along with "Sam's Club" salsa for the next shoot.
When do you all go? How can I join?
Ha! I'll be laughing about this tomorrow when I'm up on a roof repairing a hole made by a tree, working in 100 degree temps. ; )
Where can you purchase this DVD?

love it
Couldn't agree more, Kookiemoose. Dude's definitely missing something.
nice........
Me too : )
If it's such a big goal and big deal, why not just drive to Maine and climb Mt Katadan for the last few miles? Same thing isn't it?
people do it for many reasons and motives, do you want to die saying what if? or die saying "I remember when?
Do you enjoy a book? Or just read the last page!
Ouch, that kinda stung.
; ) Redheads love to hike!

CF vs. SDHC isn't the issue.
I agree the music ruined it for me.
Your missing something alright. It's just too bad that you'll never really figure out what it is.
whats wrong with you
