Bob Peoples is a truly wonderful man. I had the good fortune to get a shuttle from his late wife several years ago. She was such a sweet, sweet person and I still remember our conversation all these years later. I really enjoyed this video and it brought back so many rich memories. I need to get back out on the AT.
I did 450 in various places. Started off attempting a thru, tendonitis in both knees forced me off. Cycle of heal, hike, re-injure. It's very much a student quality piece (was my senior capstone), and I hope to revisit it with a higher level of production soon.
Both times I hiked part of/the whole trail, I met people I liked before I even reached the trail. Didn't stay with them the whole trail, those people took a couple of weeks to find.
Glad you spent a lot of time talking to Elmer and especially Bob, he's quite a guy. Out of curiosity, how much of the trail did you hike? I see you interviewed Hillbilly at the Kennebec, but most of the interviews were south of VA...
3:10 "In the mountains, we forget to count the days". Ancient Proverb (Chinese I think). Seems right to me. Neat video. As the Eskimos say, it's all about people, people, people. Best wishes from the UK. Carry on. 8)
I'm not sure. That gentleman I only saw the once, so it wasn't enough to cement the dog in my memory, and I'm not great at telling all the breeds apart. Glad you liked the video though!
I don't use the term "trail angel", and my reasoning goes like this: If it's trail magic, wouldn't that be done by a "trail magician"? Accuracy counts or it doesn't. I think it should.
Absolutely love this video! So inspiring and gets me pumped for my hike! Heading out on April 12th for 8 days on the trail. Cant wait for a thru hike though! Thanks again for the great video:)
9:08 I wanna feel that. Like nothing else matters and the only thing you have to worry about is putting one foot in front of the other. living in the moment, in nature
That was an excellent compilation. I attempted in 95 and spent a while wandering, 3 1/2 months. This video nailed my experience in many ways. Good job. My mind longs for it many times. Soon.
We'll done, impressive achievement in capturing a sense of what it is to be part of the AT community. However, only by being immersed into the AT community can one become a member. Son Driven
I like to think that anyone who takes the time to enjoy any part of the trail, and who feels as though they are a part of the community, IS a part of the community. We're all one big group of crazy hikers!
You can convince friends to go on a crazy amazing adventure with you, or you can tart off solo and you're pretty much guaranteed to meet some of the best people you will ever know!
If I were to walk that trail, I would start in Main and go to Georgia instead of the other way, that's all up hill, from Main to Georgia is down hill. I looked at it on the map, anybody can see that.

Great vid. I've hiked AT 814 miles so far and I'm going to hike the rest one day
I must say I was deeply impressed with the quality of this video..You should be proud of what you produced.
I think this video captures the feel of thru-hiking as well as any I have ever seen - well done!
I really enjoyed this video. Thank you for producing it!
Incredible video. No offense to National Geographic, but I think you've shown the spirit of the trail better than their documentary did. Well done.
I met dewlap and rainer up north somewhere. Massachusetts i think.
Finally...a film that's more about why than how.
Very
Well
Done

Nice job Daniel. I made it to The Captains in VA before I was forced off myself. Cheers, mate. :) Pete (aka Gronk)

I've been thinking for a long time on doing a thru-hike of the AT. This video convinced me to train to do so.

stumble wolf says hi... class 2010
Great video. Rekindled my love for the AT.
Is the singer/guitarist at the beginning named Mikey? I believe I met him in 2010
Honestly, I have no clue. He was playing on a bus at Trail Days that I was riding on. Never saw him before or since.

Inspirational!!!!!!
You can do it. You can always do it. Whatever your barriers may be, they are surmountable. Good luck!
Left right left we hike all day oh yea, till Maine we keep on stepping or feet will get us there.

It is 2010. What gave it away?

+Daniel Ruthenberg-Marshall Well put. Not every one has the resources, conditioning, time, etc to immerse.
Wheres Bill Bryson!?

Is this 2010?

If you spread the elevation difference over a 2000 mile distance, it's pretty insignificant.
They are mountains. Up and down both ways.
IamNocternal nah, couldn't be. Otherwise, why do people say "down south, and up north?"
Because naturally people assume that north is up and south is down. For instance, if you look at a compass or map, north is always the top
i think he is joking...
Don't we all :)
All the same color faces too.
