Вставка
- Опубліковано 27 сер 2022
- We have a little more than 24 hours left to sail before we reach our next destination of Isla Tigre, Honduras. With 100 miles to go, we experience a bit of everything at sea - fishing, dolphins and a night time squall. When we arrive in Honduras we are a bit surprised to find out we are the only sailboat here and we can't seem to figure out why. We hope you enjoy following along as we explore this unique place! Thanks for watching!

Our favorite thing to do on Sunday morning is drink coffee and watch sailing videos, One Life included! This one was great!
Hey Lindsay! Aw thank you! So cool we are part of your Sunday morning coffee!
Ahhh I love this place. How sweet everyone’s smiles were! 😍
It is such a cool, unique little place!
That place looks to be so much fun! That's the Central American experience that I want.
It was super fun, Rick! We are really happy we decided to stop here.
Few things are more beautiful than the Central American fishing village culture! That local bar was enough to make me pack up and sail away! Thanks again for another great episode!
Thanks,Tim! We really enjoyed our time here. Finding the little bar to hang out at and talking to everyone was a great experience.
Wow. Just wow.
Thanks, J K!
Thank you both for taking me to Honduras! I'm happy you have made it to more reasonable port and are making up for the wacky Costa Rica exit. I really like your videos and look forward to more and more...peace
Hey there! Thank you! We love that you are enjoying our videos! Honduras was definitely a nice change of pace from Costa Rica!
What a stunning view from the mountain... and what a nice change of pace from Costa Rica!
It was such a relief! We really enjoyed our time here.
@@SailingOneLife Looked amazing. Can't wait to see more!
Wow the area you are at looks so wonderful! Your video is what dreams are made of. Thank you so much for sharing your adventure with us. ❤
Hey Mikey and Rebbi! Thank you! Hope you guys are doing great! We missed you last night on our Patron Zoom call!
That was awesome think among your best videos 👍👍
Hey Mark! Oh wow, thank you!! We really enjoyed our time in Honduras and we think this video shows the area well!
Such a cool place with YES such a chill, kind vibe! I must replicate the "umbrella pergola" idea out back. Loved Brooke's "you'll eat what I'm serving" tude to Gary's displeasure with the Chef!!! Just like my mom's response to 6 kids not appreciating her Tuna Ala King bwahahahaha..get em Brooklyn!!!!
Hahaha! We were running low on snacks and lunch type food.....canned tuna was the other option and a warm tuna Sammy sounds worse to me than a melted pb and marshmallow. 😂🤮
Know trying to communicate with too few words is fun, but wears may ass out too. Glad you all found a gem.
Ha, thanks Bob! Honduras is a cool place!!
Wonderful place ! Thank you for taking us along on your adventure.
Thanks for coming along with us!
As always we really enjoyed your video. You made us even more excited about visiting Honduras and the Pacific coast. Shane's dad is a fisherman in Newfoundland and watching the guys mend their net brought back lots of memories for him!
Hey Amy! Ah cool about Shane's dad. He would love it here! Fishing boats everywhere! But most importantly the people are so welcoming.
@@SailingOneLife that's so awesome! Looks like our kind of place! 💙
Awesome show thank you your the “BEST”
Hey Ted! Ahh thanks so much! We are happy you enjoyed the video!
Another spectacular sailing adventure. Your footage of your voyage to Isla Tigre was exciting, and the island itself was brilliant and the people so warm and friendly. The hike was great and your seafood meal, yum yum. Sunday mornings with you two is always groovy.
Thanks, MA! This stop was such a good one! The colorful pangas and warm people make this a special place.
What a welcomed change from the disaster the CR was! Great seeing you again this week, having coffee and peanut butter toast with One Life made my day. Thanks for taking the time to bring us along. Ed
Hey Ed! Yes it felt so good to be out of the bureaucracy of Costa Rica! Isla Tigre is such a bright place. Happy we made the decision to stop there. Happy to be part of your morning coffee! Looking forward to meeting you at the boat show!
When I was there, the very top was clearcut down about 100 meters so that the Marine guards had clear field. It also allowed other equipment we had to have a clear field of view. Many stories to tell from that 30 day stay, but have to be told in person, and not on this open forum. It looks like the Island has had a lot of growth since I was there.
Hey Rodney! Oh wow interesting that the top was clear cut. Were there permanent shelters in the top while you were there? We noticed what looked to be remains of old concrete style shelters. I can imagine the stories you must have. We would love to hear them one day!
My wife and I live our lives vicariously through the both of you. New subscribers to your wonderful channel!
Hey Rich! Thank you for subscribing! We look forward to sharing our adventures with you and your wife! Cheers!
Loved this video guys. How cool to hang out with the locals and down a couple cold ones. Amazing views. Thx for sharing. ❤️🙌🏼
Hey Jorge! Yes it was super fun to hang with them for a bit and have some cold beers!
" Ease of entry WoW " !!! might bode well in Honduras . . . . . . .Cool beers : ) : ) : ) : )
Hey Mark! Yes so easy to get in and out there! FREE! Who would have known! And the beers were only .40 usd each! 🙌
What a terrific place to stop. Very cool town.
Hey! Thank you! We really enjoyed our time here. It was a cool little island with such a good vibe.
Best video yet. Love your adventures
Thanks, Dr.! We are excited to share this video with everyone. Isla Tigre was a unique stop for us. Happy to hear you enjoyed it!
I so enjoy your videos! Thank you!
Awesome! We are happy to be able to share them with you!
Awww man! That Marlyn!! Wow next time huh! Lives to fight another day 🤣😎🤷 Great video today
Thank you! Yes we were so bummed we couldn't get it to the boat but it was still a riot to hook on to!
Reminds me a lot of my travels into the interior of Guatemala… especially the Tuk-Tuks, lol!!!
The Tuk-Tuks are so fun! Wish we could keep one on the boat. 😂
Enjoyed your video just got out of the hospital after a weekend gosh them days hopefully will come one day for me back here in Virginia
Hey Michael! Oh no sorry to hear this. We hope you are feeling better and you are able to get out here one day!
Awesome fish. Glad you had such a nice time there, have fun guys.
Thanks, Dane! Maybe next time we will get it to the boat! Hope you are doing great!
It is Awesome to see you all are still having a great time. And the videos still are looking very good!!
Thanks Mike! We appreciate it! We will be coming for a visit in late October. Hope we can meet for a coffee or cocktail!
Glad you had no issues passing Nicaragua! This little place is a gem - and I loved the sailing and then exploring on land.
Thanks, Donald! We really enjoyed our time in Honduras. It was so cheery and bright there.
😀
excellent stop, you know where the name TAP TAP? comes from is from the noise made on the roof of the vehicle to announce your stop
Hey Ricardo! Yes, we have heard that. Super cool! This was a great stop!
Wow what a gem of a place .
Such a little gem of a spot! Thanks, Bill!
I just realized that I'm all caught up with binging all your videos. Really enjoyed your travels and all the cool things you've done. Now I have to wait for the next installment like everyone else. Thanks you guys. Well done!
Ah thanks so much for binge watching! We are so happy you've enjoyed coming along on our journey. We have some great stuff coming your way! Also, does your first name begin with an L?? Trying to put a name with a UA-cam username!
Thank you for sharing this part of your life!
Thanks for coming along with us, Sophie!
Great vybz and energy 👏 👌 🙌 💪🏾
Rock on, Rebel!! 😎💜
Another great video, awesome you guys got to see this small town not overran with tourist!
Small fishing communities are close-kint and very hard working. Living here in south Louisiana, there are a few along the coast. I have family that did this for years, very hard life, but fulfilling. Unfortunately, this lifestyle is not as prominent as it once was. The art of net making as well as traps (crab & crawfish) is still practiced but by a select few. You are lucky to have been able to witness the purity of a true fishing village, one that is not spoiled by heavy tourist or other industry much.
As far as the worker on the mountain, all kinds of jobs out there, many we never know about. Interesting life for sure. I work a schedule away form home myself, a unique lifestyle that not many can do.
Fair winds and following seas, stay safe!
Hey Jerry! We love these little towns! You are exactly right, the fishing communities are very close-knit. It was such a pleasure for us to experience this. Happy to hear you enjoyed this video! Hope your week is off to a good start!
Beautiful views!!!!
Yes, Honduras is beautiful!
The lunch scene 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Gary was not a fan! 😂
@@SailingOneLife we went whale watching this summer and Mike packed all the sandwiches in our cooler and added ziplock bags of ice…. Ziplock bags had holes so the Sammy’s were slightly soggy 🤢… I kindly declined. Mike ate them like a champ!! 😂😂😂
Great episode. Happy you're having a good time.
Hey Bert! Thanks, glad you liked this one! We had a great time in Honduras! Next up, Mexico!
Wow, that Marlin was crazy fun. Nice for you guys to have a peaceful day. Good sail. Wow, that was a nice easy check in. The pier is so vibrant. That was so cool with everyone at the bar. I thought that Turkey was going to go for Gary, lol. That is gross, lol. Those guys making the nets was pretty impressive. Lovely people. Great vlog :)
Thank you! Tiger Island, Honduras is such a special little place. The people are so warm and welcoming. The island had great vibes! :)
What a difference that country was from the last one. I will most definitely visit Nicaragua, Isle Tigre. This is exactly what I'm looking forward to. Thank you so much for being ambassadors. But I don't think I would care to much for your sandwich capabilities!!!
Isle Tigre is Honduran, not Nicaraguan!
@@rodneyjaynes2485 oops my bad.
Hey John! Yes, add Isle Tigre to your list of stops! It is such a unique place! As for the sandwich well it wasn't my best but it was a quick and easy thing to make at the time! 😂
@@SailingOneLife can't be perfect all the time!
Thank you for visit my country welcome,I hope you have the best experience I would like to recommend visiting Islas de la Bahia in the Caribbean Sea have good trip.
Hi Fernando! Thank you! Your country is beautiful! Everyone is so friendly and welcoming! We appreciate you sharing it with us!
I’m so happy to see this video. My Grandparents, Vicki and Bob, used to own this boat, and it’s kind of surreal to see it again, even if it’s just on camera. Makes me happy to know how it’s doing!
Hey Josh! We really appreciate your comment! We remember the day your grandparents sold us the boat and they hesitantly walked away....we could tell how much they loved and cared for her. We hope it makes them happy seeing all the fantastic memories she is giving us! 💜
@@SailingOneLife I know they love watching your videos to keep up, and they talk about them all the time, I’m glad you’re keeping their dream going!
Thanks, Josh! We love that they watch the videos and we are stoked to keep their dream alive! ⛵🤙
Incredible vlog
Thanks, Darren! We appreciate your comment!
The big one that got away... That had to be pretty exciting. Might not have filled the freezer but it made for a good fish story! I'm sure you were happy to leave the aggrivations of Costa Rica in your wake.
The big ones always get away it seems!! Yes, Honduras was such a relief after the bureaucracy and rolly anchorages in Costa Rica!
It’s a terrible lunch when you have whiskers!
Agreed! I had fluffer nutter stuck in my beard for days! 😂
I love your adventures.
Thanks, Thomas! 🤙🍻
Very nice, I especially enjoyed this video as I live in Tijuana, Mexico with my little Honduran woman...I'm a sailor out of Ensenada, Mexico and have often thought about sailing down the west coast to Honduras, then we could take a bus over to the Caribbean side San Pedro Sula where her family is from...Thanks for sharing...
Hey there! Happy to hear you enjoyed this video! How is this weather looking for you over there! Hurricane Kay looks like a massive storm. 😬
If you ever happen upon Honduras again you must cover the Baleadas Hondureñas. Best Central American food hands down. Some may consider this a bold statement, but in my opinion they are better than tacos. Also, the Salva Vida you were drinking is appropriately named for sailors. It is a "Life Saver." Coastal Honduras is amazing, I love it.
Hey Brad! We will definitely have to check out Baleadas Hondurenas next time around. We love Salva Vida.....mostly for the it's sailing appropriate name! ⛵
Great episode guys ‼️ 👍. Loved the island vibe and people. Just as you described, vibrant and colorful. If you had caught the marlin, is it good eating?? ✨🌊💨⛵️🏝👙🌞✨
Thanks Richard! We have only had Marlin a couple times in restaurants and it has been very good. If we had caught the marlin we would have released it, but it still would have been a riot it to get it up to the boat!
🙏🏻...
Thanks Richard!
So now you have a big fish out there with a hook in its mouth and trailing hundreds of feet of fishing line through the ocean. Nice one.
The fish spit the hook so we actually recovered the lure and the line.
Gorgeous views from the top of the island! Aren't fluffer nutter sandwiches great? Have you ever made them with banana slices on them?
I love fluffer nutter, especially with banana on it! Unfortunately we didn't have any bananas and we were running pretty low on fresh provisions at this point. 😂 It was great to see you guys last night!
I love your ability to get to know the locals and gain their trust. But the boil in a bag luncheon was a little too far gone for my taste lol
Hahah what no melted fluffernut tortilla wraps for you, Ian?! 😂🤮
@@SailingOneLife 🤢😂
Really good episode. I was hoping you would get the marlin to the boat, but it's a fine line between getting spooled and too much drag and with a BIG fish it can be pure luck. Sure wish that marlin had jumped on one of those gold reels.
Hey Mathew! Thanks! Yeah it would have been a riot if it knocked down on one of the big ones! One day!
I lived 18 months in Honduras, it is a special place to me! I love the culture, environment and people. But I am thinking about buying a sailboat to sail around the world. I am wondering if it is worth it? I feel that I am a couple years away.
Hey Clinton! Honduras is a cool place. Maybe one day we will get back there to check out more of the country. To us, sailing is definitely worth it. The places, culture and people we meet out here make all the struggles worth it.
Drag, drag, drag, right tension on equipment and staying in range of your line length. Didn’t help to have all the other lines in your way, that would have been a lot of food for a long time.
We definitely would have released the marlin had we got it in. We lean towards conserving and protecting billfish. Also, we wouldn't have been able to fit even 10% of that fish in our fridge and freezer!
Nice video! So did you figure out why you were the only sailboat there in that friendly place?
Hey Hans! Thanks for the comment! We aren't sure really. It's free to check in, friendly and brilliantly colorful place. There are however no facilities for sailboats such as marinas or fuel stations and no fancy grocery store. 🤷♀️ It's tough to say. We really enjoyed our time here and we will definitely recommend other sailors to make the stop!
♥️♥️🥰🥰
Thanks Fritz!
👍⛵🎣🌊💯
Thanks, Vinny! 🤙⛵
That marlin was was great . good try
Thank you! We tried! Maybe next time we will have better luck!
"...it's kind of sad to think about what they go through...just to eat"
worth writing down for posterity
Thanks for this comment. That's a thought that definitely needs revisiting, time and time again. Perspective is everything. ❤️
I am thinking of a sailing vessel or a motor yacht to sail the world !!
Awesome video, ? Why the razor wire on the top of the fence at the school?
Hey Gibb! We aren't sure. We have noticed it around many schools and government buildings in Central America. We hope we get to see you on our zoom call tonight!
How quickly does the hook corrode out of its mouth and where does the snapped off line wind up? I get the "living off the land" bit but where does the gear go when you lose it?
I've been a fresh water angler all my life and I've picked up MILES of monofilament. Dunno why people can't. pick up their own crap!
Hey Rick! Good question. In this case the marlin spit the hook so we were able to keep the hook, lure and line out of the ocean! If for some reason we can't de-hook the fish and release it properly, we keep it. There have been rare instances when the fish breaks off with the hook in it's mouth and unfortunately there is nothing we can do about it. When we see fishing line etc in the water we grab it. We do our best on keeping plastic out of the sea.
Hello guys we just rewatched this video to gain a little intel on Puerto Amapala on Isla Tigra. We are currently in marina Papagayo and are checking out on Monday and heading to Isla Tigra.
Was the checking out and obtaining a exit Zarpe as easy as the checkin ? Looks like we are following your tracks and the videos are a nice way to get an idea of what to expect.
Best wishes

S/V Divergent
Hi Gary and Ena! The check in and out were the easiest we have had in Central & South America. The checkout was complete in less than 10 minutes. Hope you enjoy Isla Tigre! It's an interesting place!
What did you think of the napkin on the Salva Vida? To clean the rust off the bottle
Oh! Good eye! Gary put that there to keep the flies out. 😂
What I wanna know is, Did the eggs make it back to the boat? Looked like a bit of a juggle to me. JK.. Nice show!
Haha! Yeppers, not a single casualty! Gary is a pretty good egg juggler by now! Thanks for the comment, Colin!
Hi guys, what does the yellow flag means? ( min 11:19) Thanks great video
Hey there! The yellow flag is known as the quarantine flag or Q flag. It is raised upon entry into a new country to alert the port captain of your arrival. It remains hoisted until you are officially checked in to the country. (The Q flag is not covid related)
Wow that must have been a blue and weight was about 600 to 900 lbs
Hey Eric! Yes it was a huge fish! Not sure how much it would have weighed but too big for us to get in on the small reels!
I don’t think fishing is the only business there, food for sale, restaurants, and they have to buy the different colored paint from somewhere, and there was that fenced in compound with the barbed wire topped fence probably something other than fishing going on in there.
Hey Myron! Yeah fishing might not be the only industry but it's definitely heavily relied on. Thanks for all the comments! We really appreciate it!
Yes, that is a terrible lunch. Too much sugar. 🤭😬😉
😂 agreed, not my finest dish!

But how does Polllolandia compare to Los Pollos Hermanos?
I haven't tried Los Pollos Hermanos yet......I'll have to watch for it! But Pollolandia is pretty darn good!
The "Emigration Dance"..perfect description .. you should continue to use that in the future...hahah...or Immigrate if you prefer..
😂🤣 it is a good term!
Love the vlogs. but that damned book your reading....
We read all sorts of books and articles from all places and perspectives. The best reason to read a book might just be that it contains arguments or ideas you disagree with.
hmmm. a lot of us have compassion for others. but i am curiuos. why would we feel sorry for anybody doing the time tested tradition of working to feed their family? shouldn't we be proud of them?
so many earn a living juggling money in a false economy, and would not know how to survive if they had to go back to doing physical work..
I'm not trying to be rude, but i am trying to understand what i am missing, maybe even why i am missing it.
myself, i have been more than 20 miles off the beaten path many times to feed my family, and earned great pride by doing so.
Hey there! My thoughts were in the moment when the sea conditions were less than desirable for a boat of their size and condition. It is extremely admirable but made me feel guilty as I was sitting in a comfortable, sea worthy vessel with heaps of food onboard.
@@SailingOneLife that i understand! living off the land, is not always peaches n cream. but home grown peaches and homemade cream is the best!
thank you for responding, and thank you for not taking it wrong.
@@nonyayet1379 absolutely agree! Cheers!
Piratas en centroamérica,? Por experiencia aseguro que son más peligrosos muchos barrios de grandes ciudades de USA que centro y sudamérica
Muy cierto. Lamentablemente, América del Sur y Central tienen mala reputación entre la comunidad náutica.
Probably because Honduras has the 2nd highest murder rate in the world and the US State Department recommends you do not travel there. Nice fish
Yeah your probably right. Such a shame because it's such a unique place!
Not really. I'm from Honduras and that's not true. Just stay away from the dangerous zones inside the big cities and you'll be fine. Crime is mostly gang or narco activities related. Tourists can feel safe.
We are welcoming, friendly people. And our country is a natural hidden gem with such a rich history, culture and gastronomy. Tourists shouldn't be afraid and come visit. 🇭🇳
