A few things that didn't make the final edit: - All resins, even the less risky plant based resin, are a skin irritant and gives off vapours that can be irritating to your breathing. - There are a couple of sets of gloves come with the printer - get more. They're only $5 for a hundred at the dollar store. As I mentioned in the video, I did move the ventilation from my laser cutter to the area where I was running the resin printer. And I was doing this in the basement, well away from my family's living space. Stay safe and print all the things!
@@pileofstuff something to consider, purchase at least one extra screen & an extra vat. At some point the screen won’t be available and this helps extend the useful life of the printer.
+10 points for "Out of box experience" I confess to some envy about this gift from Elegoo, but you've certainly earned it and it is smart advertising for them.
I think the HO scale is one of the coolest uses for these things. Model RR stuff can be so pricey, I imagine being able to create and print your own stuff would be so cool... If I had any painting scale whatsoever.
This might be the thing that gets me doing a bit more model making than I've dome for a few years. Some of the projects Luke Towan has done with his printer (combined with more traditional modelling techniques) is really impressive.
Excellent I had an older elegoo Mars printer for a couple years now. I found the prints can be very hard but a little brittle depending on resin type and curing time and certain resins that I have used don’t take brass inserts that well like fdm filament which melts nicely but the quality of the prints is amazing. Worth pointing out if you are printing anything with a large flat surface then position it at 45 degrees or vertical depending on the print as flat on the bed can cause the surface to deform when the plate lifts . Good review thanks
WOW! is all i can say. I have no words. These prints look better than even injection moulded plastic. Its SO smooth! Is this resin printer available in the UK? I don't have a basement unfortunately.
Wow. That's very impressive! I always wondered how strong resin prints are. Can you print something functional like a drawer handle? Are flexibles possible?
I'm not aware of flexible resins. The resin prints are stronger, but slightly more brittle than filament prints. That said, I've dropped a few of them from desk height onto a concrete floor and nothing has broken so far.
A litre of resin is about the same price as a kilogram of high quality filament. And all the prints you saw took very little resin. I suspect the consumable cost will be similar. Though with resin you also have alcohol for cleaning, and you do go through gloves and paper towel while doing the post-processing. The screw size tester took a bit over 4 hours 15 min (almost 3000 layers in the orientation I used) and used just under 100ml of resin (as estimated by the slicer)
I have an old electric screwdriver and the plastic case is extremely brittle. It fell on the floor and broke in several places. It has been superglued. How strong is the plant based resin. Will it break if dropped?
I accidentally dropped a couple of the models I showed while moving them from the printer to my workbench and none of them broke. However they also didn't have a motor and battery installed inside them. The resin is a bit less flexible than PLA. Of the 2 resins I have, their stated hardness specifications are almost identical.
Good demo and revue, and my filament printer will give the same or better quality than the demo piece. Also the process and dealing with liquid resin wash tank and UV curing would not put this item on my wish list.
Yeah, the post-processing is more work and an extra complication, but I think the upgrade in quality is worth the effort, especially for small and highly detailed prints.
Yes. As I mentioned (and added in the pinned comment) I had active ventilation in use. However the plant based resin is much less nasty than the usual resins. Not 100% safe, but much better.

Looks like you will be having fun with your new Resin Printer. Enjoy!
those teapots are so cute!

wow 🎆🎆.. thanks for the review !

I assume it's available wherever Amazon can ship to.
Now you have your own trusss for a small stage. Maybe you van combine it with the tiny stage light you have :D

amazing technology. how long did the screw thingy take? and how does cost compare to a filament print?

The learning curve looks fast?
That surprised me as well. I had only watched a few videos before opening the boxes.

What a PITA these Resin Printers are...... and they take up a lot of counter space
True, you do need some room to dedicate to it. But not more than the laser cutter takes up.
@@pileofstuff That's like saying... But it takes less space than my car...😉
@@lasersbee There's very few tools that *don't* take up some amount of space.
