Well done Nev. Keep up the good work. I am an old fella and still learn heaps from your videos. Plenty of squid for everyone and squid and fish come and go so its anyones luck. Plus you are doing a good job promoting the Island for tourism. I am sure the locals appreciate the business fisherman bring to the area.
Fishing and catching squid and crabs for me is the best life! People that usually fish are some of the most genuine people I have met too. Australia is awesome for this we are so lucky
Hey Nev, instead of using duct tape as a stopper, use rubber band and tie onto ur leader. Great stopper and doesn’t burn the line. Keep up the awesome video. Hopefully I’ll see u at the island soon. Cheers
Hi Nev You're inspiring me to go Squid-jigging. I've seen the molluscs around, if ever I could catch them I'd like to learn how to clean & cook them to a tasty meal!
Another top video Nev lots of good info as well , PS, a question you say you are using TAPE as a stopper, are you just tying it into your main line ? i have been using a small glow bead , because the tube hole, is a bit on the large size. CHEERS Chris
Another great clip Nev. You are mostly fishing all the spots i grew up fishing. Love that part of the world. Would love to see a little Rhyll pier action.
I just went fishing off the beach yesterday, I struggled a lot with the sliding knot on my leader, I'll try the float stopper next time. I'd have liked to have a closer.look to the leader set up but anyways, great episode.
Cheers mate, glad you enjoyed. With the float rig just have it running as usual and then wrap a bit of tape around the line at the depth you want the jig to sit. Hope that helps
Here I am sitting here watching this video while eating my first squid I caught of remo peir! Thanks for the tips mate wouldn’t stand a chance with out your vids!!
Cheers mate! There sure are a couple spots but I like to keep them a bit secretive. Hope you can understand. Do a bit of scouting and use google earth and I'm sure you might find it. Thanks
Awesome video mate, really enjoyed it. Keep up the great videos! Also, I found a really nice spot with lots of weedbeds which i thought could be a great spot for squid. The only downside is that the water is only 30-60cm deep. Do you reckon there could still be squid in water that shallow?
Cheers mate, happy to hear that you enjoyed. Squid do hang in really shallow water (ive caught them in 20cm of water) but for your best chance i would fish there on a big high tide and preferably around sunrise/set. Hope that helps👌
@@NevsFishing Thank you so much! Been looking at that spot for the last year but never gave it a try because I thought it would be too shallow and I also sometimes swim around there and have never seen any myself haha. I'll go give it a try sometime soon and hopefully I can get onto a squid or two!
Hi Nev, I have recently decided to try fishing for squid, after a lifetime of fishing. (Go figure??) Anyway thanks for your incredibly entertaining and helpful video`s. Just a question if I may. Why do you hold your rod so parallel with the beach as opposed to keeping it up/ perpendicular, as one would in normal fishing?
Hey Nev you know them lures with the prongs on it that you can put that whiting on. Where you put the fishing was just a piece of wire with them spikes. Have you ever put shrimp on there would that work it would be expensive. But have you ever tried shrimp on them. Just some big dead shrimp with the heads on please let me know I love you videos. Your friend Ray from Foley Alabama
hi mate, i love you vids !!! I would love to use your technique and apply it to my squid locations. my problem is that its deeper that where your fishing. my question is... how can I cast further without having the stopper knot making the least friction?? thank you
Hey nev! Do you think I could do this on a nice calm beach in NZ? Would love to try but I never see anyone doing it. I wonder if it only works in aussie?!?! Chur... jase.

Hi Nev, luv ya vids mate, keen to get into squid fishing, apart from those surf rods, can you advise on good rod/reel setups.
Kind Regards
Shane
nice, how are you doing a audio setup in your jumper?
Nah I use the gopro audio from my headcam
I like squid fishing too. Love to catch squid
What egi brand is the white egi?
G'day Nev, I'm new to Phillip Island where do you beach fish.
What rod are you using?
Hi nev. are you fishing for the squid over weed beds or sand or both? Rick
great video
Hi Nev, after casting do you let out more line so that the float/jig to drift in the direction as shown on your google map?
Yes correct, i always have a bit of slack line so it can go where ever it wants👍 good pickup
Nice video Nev👍,
I still didn't understand about the stopper. Until how long you put the stopper?
It depends on what depth you are fishing, but usually in between 1-2 metres. Its different for every area too. Cheers mate👌
@@NevsFishing thank you for your techniques nev, I will try your techniques on my next fishing trip. 😁🤙
hi mate, i love you vids !!! I would love to use your technique and apply it to my squid locations. my problem is that its deeper that where your fishing. my question is... how can I cast further without having the stopper knot making the least friction?? thank you
Try using the FG knot, it’s very slim
Maybe tie an elastic band on your line to adjust depth. That's what I do and works really good
well.
Can you like fish for squid with a smaller rod and a smaller float like those ball ones?
Ive never tried it but I don’t see why it wouldn’t work. Might give it a go
good technique my friend
What rod are you using
Daiwa aird x 1202
Hey nev! Do you think I could do this on a nice calm beach in NZ? Would love to try but I never see anyone doing it. I wonder if it only works in aussie?!?! Chur... jase.

@@NevsFishing yeh we run them for offshore gummies around there as well
Do u live in Hastings

How do you find good locations to fish for squid?
Best way is to go down to your local beaches which have weed beds and scout out yourself. Google earth is what I use to located weed beds
Thanks mate! Ill check it out! Love your video too, i bought a rod based on seeing your squid videos. Keep it up!
No worries at all, happy you enjoyed! What rod did you end up going with?
