X Astray is cool, I also like that you can play the story of this manga in G Generation Cross Rays. edit: one note about why the Dreadnought is referred to as the "X Astray" is because Lowe convinces Prayer that any mobile suit can be an "astray" if it's going against the typical way MS are used... in particular, he is referring to the fact that Prayer does not want to harm anyone with his incredibly-powerful MS, basically saying "if you use a suit to protect rather than to destroy, you're going against the grain, so you can pilot an Astray too." The X is obviously in reference to the backpack DRAGOON configuration, like you mentioned, but I think it's important to highlight Lowe's silly but fair logic as to why the Dreadnought can be called an Astray.
How can it be a retcon that the junk guild saved kira and waltfeld if it's never stated who saved them? It's pretty clearly meant to be open to interpretation and the astray series just fills in the blanks. Again these are coordinators, both kira and andy - it's expected that they have a bit of a bigger health bar than I don't know - regular ass humans?
