You're right. Captain Marvel released about 3 months after Stan Lee died, so they placed all his cameos in the title card as a loving tribute to his life. Rest in peace, Mr Lee, for giving us these wonderful and important characters. You will be missed.

  • @blueroninstudios

Marvel really knows how to cast their movies and shows, but they also know how to craft characters and scripts in ways that make the characters not only accessible but also relateable. The scene where "Vers" is in the backyard trying to cope with the fact that the Kree have been lying to her for 6 years in order to control her, and she's only just finding out about who she had been, and that POWERFULLY DELIVERED monologue from Lashana Lynch as Monica Rambeau relaying to her the important stuff. It's like "You don't know who you are, Im gonna tell you who you are and what you mean to me as a friend, loved one, someone who believed in me when no one else did." And the hug at the end .... ooof! Never fails to get me misty-eyed.
How weird is it that most of the best moments in any Marvel film aren't really the fights, the visual spectacle, or the powers of the heroes, its really the dialogue scenes between two or more characters that are usually the most poignant, meaningful, and well-written. It's drama, and I love it!

1:12:50 Things not being what they appear to be is a big theme of this film. A lot of the characters change their roles in the film. The Kree-Skrull war isn't what you thought it was. The heroes aren't the good guys, and the villains aren't the bad guys, and Mar-Vell's earth base isn't on earth. And the cat's not a cat.

I'm a day late to the party, so someone else may have already explained this, but as I understand it, the cameo for Captain Marvel was the last one Stan Lee was alive to film.
As for the script, it's for Mallrats, a movie that came out in the 90s, in which Stan has a cameo playing himself.
The line you hear him repeating is from his *actual part* in the film.
While I don't know that it's ever been confirmed/addressed by the Captain Marvel filmmakers, my personal theory is that we're meant to see this as *the real Stan Lee* rehearsing in preparation to shoot that very cameo.
[perhaps he was even en route to the actual shoot during their meet]

"You have this Kree part of her that's unemotional, that is an amazing fighter and competitive. Then there's this human part of her that is flawed but is also the thing that she ends up leading by. It's the thing that gets her in trouble, but it's also the thing that makes her great. And those two sides warring against each other is what makes her her."

    • @IceCenders
      @IceCenders Місяць тому

Also she used to be a human soldier. Nobody bats an eye when male (ex-)soldiers like the Equalizer act all cool, collected, only showing subtle facial expressions. God forbid a woman ever acted collected and quietly self-assured though. In my opinion she does not act unemotional at any point of the movie. People who think that just are bad at reading subtle emotions (or more likely just have a bias against women being subtle and emotionally complex).

Loved your review. When I saw it I enjoyed that the audience experienced Danvers' self-discovery along with her. It made the character's frustration relatable.
Personal note: I was an extra for the underground tunnel scene that was filmed at the Shaver Lake Edison hydroelectric dam just North-East of Fresno, CA.
I gained a TON of respect for people who work on these movies. We extras had to be on set by 5 am for wardrobe and the film crew were already there working.
Shooting and post-shooting digital image capture finished around 5 pm, and the film crew were still hard at work wrapping things up. They work HARD.

I REALLY like the chemistry that develops between Carol and Fury. I understand that it extends to real life.
And in that scene where she offers to arm-wrestle for the tesseract, I always wonder who I would be arm-wrestling. Captain Mar-vell? She would rip my arm off. Literally. Carol Danvers? Well, I would get to keep my arm, but I would probably lose badly. Brie Larsen? I suspect she would win too, but at least I would have a chance.

Your reaction was I believe the right one, to have. People can disagree with the choice, that is fair, but I think the creative team wanted to put the audience in the head of the lead character and show you how confused she was by all that was going on.
Just my opinion, but it seemed the more information "Vers" gained the calmer and less hectic the film got. So, by the time she gets to Carol Danvers, she is cracking jokes and back to her "pain in the ass" psyche that Monique Rambo talked about.
I could be wrong, I just really, really liked this movie and am still waiting on reasons outside of her being a girl and saying it would ne nice to have more girls on the press tours, because maybe she would be asked more questions than about her diet, lack of skin in the costume, how her butt looked and who would the character date.

    • @KitsyX

I had no major issues with the film, except for it being nothing special and kinda meh to an extent... In my opinion, Carol is overshadowed by Fury and maybe the lead Skrull... And Goose lol. She could have easily been a supporting character in the movie if she wasn't in it so much compared to the others.
Of all the MCU movies, I think this was the one time they didn't nail the character... That or they nailed the character and the character just wasn't particularly good lol. Most people probably appreciate Carol mostly for giving Rogue her super strength and power of flight >_

@Kitsy X tbh it's like that a lot of the time with Marvel leads and just lead characters in action/adventure in general. Who. Would say that Luke Skywalker, Neo, Fredo Baggins, and a slew of others aren't outshined by cooler, wittier, more badass other main/supporting characters. Even in recent Marvel filmography, Shang-Chi wasn't wasn't best part of his movie. It happens🤷‍♂️

    • @KitsyX
      @KitsyX 2 роки тому +2

@@2thRiteFREESPEEisAVirtueSignal I don't know, I like most Marvel leads as main characters in the MCU... And even if they are overshadowed a bit, it's normally not so much... True, many of those characters you mentioned aren't always the standout, but they also usually make up for that in the journey that they go on as a character... Their progression... Not to say that Carol doesn't progress, but it's almost like she progresses back to her starting point, instead of forward... I'm not sure how best to explain... Hopefully you get what I mean.

  • @tofu_golem

Let me try to explain the original Kree-Skrull metaphor from the comic books.
During the Cold War, a lot of Americans didn't understand why other nations-including our allies-were unhappy with some of the things America did during the Cold War.
The Kree-Skrull conflict is meant to make those complaints more understandable to Americans. The Kree and the Skrull use entire planets as pawns in their conflict in the same way that America and the Soviet Union used entire nations as pawns in our conflict during the Cold War.
Occasionally, Earth becomes a place of strategic import in the Kree-Skrull conflict, and Earth is almost helpless to do much about whatever the Kree or the Skrulls decide to get up to.

    • @KitsyX
      @KitsyX 2 роки тому +3

It doesn't deserve to be hated maybe, but I'd feel weird calling it underrated...
I dunno... Carol just doesn't grab me as a character... She's like a side character in her own movie almost... Not that it helps that Sam L. Jackson is so good and steals the show all the time lol. But then maybe I wouldn't have liked the film as much if he didn't...
I suppose maybe I enjoy it a bit more than the first two Thor movies... I'm not sure... It's weird because I kinda like it better overall, but I enjoy the characters more in the others and it kinda carries them higher... I think there's potential for Brie Larson's Carol in future, but yeah... I kinda got her motivations, but I had to kinda reverse engineer them from what they seemed to be trying to do at the climax or something... It's weird... In my opinion, the movie didn't do it very successfully... I wasn't ever confused, but neither did it hit impactfully... Hopefully that makes sense...

It's coz Captain Marvel doesn't fit into the male gaze lol. She's good at everything, and for them women shouldn't be able to do that. They can't comprehend the fact that it's possible for a women to have that nonchalant, more contained emotion, sarcastic and effortless personality and be powerful at the same time. A women can only be super powerful for them if there's a major drawback, let's say for example Black widow, she identically has Danver's sarcastic and effortless personality but she's not OP so its ok. The same case with Wanda, she is on the other hand is OP, but she has to have a major flaw-in which she can't control her emotions.

@@jbonceu2457 I doubt that. I mean sure I've experienced people like that, but I think that's a rather loud minority. At least I hope so.
That there's a drawback to Wanda being OP has nothing to do with her sex. That's a storytelling element that all super powerfull characters share. If a character is so OP that literally nothing can harm them (like Superman for example) there have to be other stakes or issues to them, otherwise they'd just be boring.

I have to say. I watch a lot of reaction videos. It's just a great way to re-watch my favorite movies and see them through someone else's eyes.
Of all the react channels, you 2 are one of my favorites (top 2 of 40). Seriously. There is a genuine and "unspoiled" nature to your reactions. A LOT of the other UA-cam reactors try to fake this. But you too have a real thing going.
    PLEASE DON'T CHANGE THIS!
There will be a lot of pressure from commenters, fans, and competition. But keep this very special attribute going.
Again, great reactions. Really like the comments about how they portrayed Captain Marvel's character. This is actually the only strong female lead movie where the strong female lead was not characterized by her unbelievable strong sexuality (or fake empowerment as I like to say). In fact, it's the only one that has dared to not even include a hint of a "love" interest. Her characterization was driven by her choices, her own will, and her identity. This is so rare! My hat goes off to Marvel for that.
Sorry this was so long, and again, keep doing what you are doing

    Ever been to C-53 (Earth)
Sersi in Captain Marvel : "Once. Its a real shithole."
    ...
Sersi in Eternals when they first arrived at earth : "Its beatiful isn't it?"
    😅

I loved this movie when I went to see it, but for me there was an extra bonus of it taking place (largely) in the mid-90's which was the time I was at the prime of my youth! :D But I also appreciated the strong and empowered female character NOT reduced to eye-candy, sidekick, love interest and such on. Of course young Fury and Coulson were a treat too, and I really enjoy Talos as well. Glad to see you guys liked it too.
Oh and it wasn't that confusing when you're not binging the movies in order, I had watched some of the earlier films by the time this was in the cinema several times, especially Guardians since those are high among my fave MCU films. And having read some of the comics as a kid helped with the whole Skrull/Kree thing. I've noticed some reactors are pretty impatient with the "main storyline" and can end up paying less attention to films that don't directly contribute to it which is a pity. Fortunately you don't have it.

The Supreme Intelligence is not an AI. It's much more creepy than that. It is a gestalt mind made up of the most intelligent Kree. As individuals die, new Kree are "plugged in."
Thus, it is a singular intelligence with a lifespan many times that of a normal Kree.
The Kree used to be an egalitarian society with artists and scientists, but the moment the Supreme Intelligence took over, he turned all of Kree civilization into a giant military and started conquering everything out could. There are Kree who would like to go back to the old ways, but no rebellion or uprising is ever successful because the Supreme Intelligence is too smart.
The funny thing is, Fury can tell aliens that he lost his eye to a Flerken, and they will be impressed.

The script he was reading was from Mallrats, a '95 Kevin Smith movie. If I'm not mistaken, the story i heard anyway, was that Stan Lee was pretty weak when they were filming Captain Marvel and they got outtake audio from Kevin Smith of Stan's line "trust me, true believer" for them to use here because he could barely speak in the end.
