This is what we used to called jheri curls hair in Jamaica back in the 80's and 90's I never had it but it makes your hair grow fast and long no matter how short your hair was. It was 2 styles one called the wet jheri curls and the dry jheri curls but all I know you're hair stay curly for month and it grows. Good job mama I like it.

Speaking as a cosmetologist, I did a lot of cold waves in my life. The best cold wave out there is (WAVE NOUVEAU) It would have been much silkier if relaxing cream was left in a bit longer, and then trim her ends, before applying the curling solution, also, using larger rods, would also give nice big curls. The hair would be fuller and the hair wouldn't look stringy. Always trim the ends when you process virgin hair. Trust me, The results would be gorgeous. Wear gloves next time darling, chemicals would mess up your hands.

You are so right! My grandmother stayed with a Jheri curl & that smell was horrible. Her hair always looked wet & oily too.
I had the jheri Curl when it first came out it grew my hair then I went to a perm , you could put a perm on a Jheri Curl but u can’t put a jheri Curl on top of a perm I kept my Jheri curl and perm up especially my perm I went every two weeks to get a wash and set my her grew beautifully. Now I’m natural and I love it it’s a job but u have to be consistent with it , but to each it’s own
I never had that problem. I kept mine up with oil sheen spray and it smelled fine.

Back in the 80's, we called this 'wet look' in the UK. My mother wore her hair like that for a while.
I did Jheri curls few days ago and the next day my hair went back to almost kinky

I have been doing this to my hair since second grade (I’ve been putting chemicals in my hair since I was very young, which means I didn’t know what my natural hair looked like) and started going natural in 9th grade, even though it made my hair grow it really damaged my hair and now that I see how beautiful my natural hair is I kinda feel bad that my mom put so many chemicals in my hair when I was young cuz that really impacted my mental health and not in a good way😭😭😭

That’s normal. I didn’t know what my natural hair looked like until my 30s. As most women in my generation. Not saying it’s healthy because it’s not. But just know you are not alone and millions of women have had the same experience.

I remember having a curly perm back in the 1980s at school and I remember no one ever wanted the small perming rods, there was , small medium then large. Large rods most people wanted the large rods. once the perm settled down omg!!! The curls!!!!. I think the wet look made everyone's hair grow, some if the boys their hair used to be dripping with gel and activator spray and in the end I couldn't stand the grease on my school shirts. 😆
I wore an jheri curl in the 80s & to the early 90s my cousin always use the medium & the big Rods when she done my hair but all i know i use to hate waking up the curl Activator use to be all on the pillows lol.
And by the time school was half way over my hair was all dried up!
I've done this to my natural hair. My hair never grew but broke off and the curl activator ruin my scalp for months. Now I'm team just regular relaxer. I love the jheri curl look tho. Very easy to style
Coconut oil or castor oil or sheer butter would've been great for your scalp.

I love the finish but it's scary to watch. I didn't really see her wash off the chemical. She only rinsed the chemical off the perm rods once 😲👀,the breakage would be out of this world of it was my hair.
A few years ago after the so called natural hair movement was in full force, I predicted the jheri curl would be back. Why? Too many people loading up on products to "define the curl" in their 4c hair and not getting the results they want.
Wow! This takes me back to my stylist days. Hollywood curl was a favourite back then 👩🏾🦱
Old school, if I knew the things I know now of how to make my natural curls popped a Jeri would have never been in my hair. My natural curls look just as good.

I have seen many curl perms performs but I have never seen one performed without rolling paper .. or seen it performed so tacky ..wow but the hair came out beautiful.. this goes to show everyone have their own technique to achieve the same curly look fantastic.

It looks like the Jerri Curl I use to do years ago. I use to use larger rollers on my hair because I wanted the blowout curl look. My hair looked like I had pressed and curled it with large curlers. I was wondering when the Jerri Curl was coming back.

Can y’all stop with the super discouraging comments?!!! A Jheri curl will not automatically destroy your hair. I’m no expert but my mum has been doing Jheri curls for over 15 years now, and she has no damage! In fact, her hair grows out and she happily cuts it😫 because she likes to keep her hair short. Honestly, you just have to be responsible. Do not neglect your hair. Take care of it and use the right products.
Side note; I’m sure hair type and hair history should be considered too. But these comments be mad trifling!

We called this gehri curl. Ppl wore them in 80's 80's and early 90's. It helps to add neutralizer in a spray bottle. After applying neutralizer, you should always rinse again with cold water.

You can just use the curl activator and it works as a wash and go for type 4 hair and type 3 c too. But does this denatured your hair?

I live in the states some people use the activator and cream on natural hair and it grows...I assume because theirs on heat being used.

no, her roots will still grow out as their original texture and she will have to get them touched up.
Her new growth will be natural.
This is a chemical process that CAN'T Be REVERSED.
This IS a Jheri Curl.
The new growth must be retouched just like a relaxer. Also the hair must be moisturized everyday. If the hair becomes dry it will cause breakage.

A perm rod set without all the chemicals would’ve looked better to me all she would have had to do was use a heavy leave in conditioner with water and let it air dry completely her hair texture was beautiful before she changed it not judging she should watch some videos of perm rod and flexi rod sets it does the same thing and actually get better curls
School calls this curl reformation depending on the perm rod size the out come of the hair pattern will differ I'm so glad I came across your channel but please wear gloves I was worried chemical burn😟
Can you do another video with curl reformation again but on a mannequin please but also with large medium and small rods so we can see the out come of how the hair looks after I'm so bored because of covid I haven't been able to get my hours at any salons 🇨🇦😄

Remember it's irreversible once you retouch your natural hair...
You will hv to retouch over and over once your hair root start to grow out.. what she is doing in the vedio is call "Chemical process" it's irreversible n her hair will break n fall out like crazy... Pls don't do this cos you will regret later
Nope, I did it once and never retouched, when my root started growing, I had styles o packed my hair in that made it look good + I started adding ecostyler. After 8+ months, it was back to normal and I started protective styles over again. I was happy for the 8months change.
This is a Jeri curl kit because I used the box kit back in the day and it was the Classy curl kit.

I remember people saying jheri curls grow your hair. I wonder if it's because you're not using heat tools for styling and it stays moisturized 🤔
It was all the moisture from the curl activator you had to put in to maintain it. I started using curl activator on my natural hair and my hair's actually been soft and super easy to detangle!
