Okay girl. First of all, you're beautiful. Second, take it from somebody who had a Jheri curl/curly perm for 10 years. You are making life with that hairprocess unnecessarily complicated, especially when it comes to all the dry flaking sensitive scalp problems that's going on and all the shedding that you showed us. Upkeep for this should be simple and quick by following a few essential rules about this style. You cannot treat a jheri curl/curly perm like it's just natural hair. The only thing similar is the curl pattern. The upkeep and maintenance for it is completely different and doing the wrong things with it will make you miserable unnecessarily. #1 thing to remember: Only use products formulated for a Jheri curl, which includes shampoos, conditioners and most importantly ACTIVATOR. Treating it like natural hair will leave your scalp dry, sensitive, itching, burning and problematic in other ways. Do not use oils or other shampoos. They don't work on your hair anymore and actually wreck your hair. That hair has been permanently chemically changed to not respond to normal hair products anymore. Look for a shampoo and conditioner made by the exact same company that made your jheri curl/curly perm. That is how it is maintained properly. #2) use activator at least once a day and anytime you notice hair or scalp dryness. That is all you need. Avoiding the curl activator will make your curls dry, dull and lead to breakage, dryness and excessive shedding. I'm really sad your hairstylist did not explain all of this. I'm really not surprised you are losing all that hair and that your scalp is acting up. Back in the day, you left the salon with the jheri curl shampoo, conditioner and activator the same exact day you got the jheri curl. I would discontinue the kheritas immediately and get the products made for the jheri curl/curly perm you got. I'm excited to see the next generation trying this out though. This process can be really beautiful. Mine was called, "The Hawaiian Silky". I loved it. I really did.
I don’t use all of the products she used. I shampoo, condition, then add a curling conditioner cream and scrunch it with my hands. Last I spray it with oil sheen. Will that hurt my hair too? I’m a little worried after reading these helpful comments.
@@artiscrutial this is not true at all. pls do your read before listening to random ppl. you can use the same product you used before. as long if you keep your hair hydrated and moisturized, you’re okay.
I’m thankful for going natural because it taught me how to care for my hair but chiile… I’m tired. My pockets are tired. The girl who does my hair? She’s tired too 😩
Right! I’m so tired! Products are so expensive! Im 24 and I’ve been natural my whole life. My hair is curly but I feel like I have 3 different textures. It’s not long but it’s super thick. I definitely can’t do a wash and go. It’s dry and absorbs product too quickly. It takes me about and hour every night to detangle and braid or twist my hair up (it does better in braids) just for it to look decent the next day. I just want more defined curls and hair that’s easier to manage. I’ve watched so many videos of naturals getting curly perms and I want to get one but I’m scared it will really damage my hair. I work full time and I’m a full time grad student. I don’t have the time to keep fooling with hair like this😭.
I just wanted to add you should not put any type of brush in a perm wave or curl. You will tear your hair. Always use a wide tooth comb and start from the back and work your way up to the front! good luck Queen!
I wash only 2 times a month one of which deep condition w protein. I spray with water and then apply the wave nouveau cream in the morning and night. (Moisturize and seal) Wash and Condition with Shea moisture ultra hydrating. My hair barely sheds.
There a different kinds of Denman brushes. They don't all have the same number of rows or teeth. The one shown in the video should NOT be used by anyone to detangle their hair. Fingers should be used and if you don't want to spend the time. Then use a wide tooth comb.
I like how the Wave Nouveau made your hair mimic the Brazilian deep wave texture. I’ve been wanting a sew in with that texture but wasn’t sure how to blend the leave out but I think this is perfect if I only get the top leave out of my head done. I don’t really like wigs and frontals anymore.
The correct name for the chemical process done in your hair is called a perm. Relaxer is to relax the curl. Jerri curl is a brand name from 1970s. Some people call perms Jerri curl like people call food storage containers Tupperware, or a tissue, a kleenex. Your hair looks great. Now I'm thinking of getting a perm but I'm worried about the 'renewal' process.
It is a jherri curl as it mixes both processes that you mentioned. First relaxing the hair pattern then reforming the curl with the perm. It is called Jherri curl because jherri Redding invented the process of combining both processes of chemical straightening then chemical curling. There have always been several products available so it is not called that because of the brand per say but the process itself.
@@angellalamon3776 thank you for the explanation. My mom had a Jerri Curl, but I never had one. I alway thought it was called a Jerri Curl….didn’t know why.
@@angellalamon3776 Actually he didn't invent it (I don't know why y'all think a white foreign man can create something for black people)... a black man did and sold it to Jerry. A lot of people wish he would have kept the business. He sold it for $100,000 ... He would have made way more than that if he would have kept the business. Jheri did start up the other businesses though.
Olaplex will save your hair along with of course hair products for chemically treated and dry hair. If Olaplex can be used with the chemical treatment that will help a lot also. Wave nouveau broke my hair almost completely off in about 4 weeks back in the day. My hair did well with the Jheri curl but the dry curl destroyed in 4 weeks flat.
I got a S curl at home wash it every week but no manipulation throughout the whole entire week. I just wear slick backs I water it and grease it every 2 to 3 days and when I tell you my hair is so healthy you can wash your hair every week. Just make sure you grease it and add water and little to no manipulation until next wash day. and use a bigger comb when detangling
THE SHEDDING IS FROM THE CHEMICAL IT IS CALLED thioglycolic acid THERE IS A REASON IT SMELLS LIKE DEPILATORY CREAM ( NAIR) . THE FIRST TIME IT IS APPLIED TO VIRGIN HAIR YOU WILL EXPERIENCE SHEDDING AND BECAUSE IT IS EXTREMELY HARD NOT TO OVERLAP WHEN PROCESSING EACH TIME YOU TOUCH UP IT WILL GET PROGRESSIVELY WORSE.
First of all- your hair looks amazing and your gorgeous 🥰 I have a Gina Curl curly perm and i never use a denmam brush- it’s too harsh for a Curly perm. Also, never detangle when your hair dry 🙀 it will cause your hair to break.
@theirstories Gina recommends getting a retouch every 6months but some ladies do 9months or even annually. It depends on how capable you are with managing two textures cause you will maintain length. I shampoo my hair twice a week and it takes me less than an hour (which is crazy cause it used to take me 6 hrs to do my when I was natural). I workout about 5 x week so having the Gina curl is a lifesaver!
@theirstories my appointments are so far and in between- I don’t worry about it. When it’s time for me get it done I just do twist outs or wear my headband wig.
Invest in a keratin treatment. You'll see better results and your hair actually be healthier and not dried out. Her hair looks more manageable but wave Nouveau makes it dry as f***. I loved it too when I was young until I wash my hair and it felt f****** dry every time. It looks thirsty too. Keratin treatment you will need a lot of way less product and your hair naturally shines
@@aishacelestin I appreciate the advice but I was just saying her hair looks so more manageable, that doesn’t mean I have issues with my curls, respectfully…
My Aunt has been getting a wave nouveau (or however you spell it) for as long as I can remember. Well over 30 years. Her hair is very long and her hair is more curly that wavy. I think the way the hair looks depends on the type of hair you have. I also know a few people that get this done and they tell people it's their natural hair. Oh well...
@@_Alexisthorpe No mam! Your hair will be on the floor lol. A light blow dry might be ok but flat irons are too much. But why would you need to flat iron anyway if your hair already loose because of the perm? It really shouldn't take that much heat to go from a loose wave to straight
@@_Alexisthorpe no heat! You see how her hair is shedding? Its because it's dry. A wave nouveau is met to be juicy & moisturized and not to be washed until the retouch. Gheri curl perm maintenence.. gel, activator (like S-curl) and sleep with a shower cap. Gotta keep the moisture in. Don't let it bone dry out. Sorry... but your maintenence method will break off your hair in no time. Go back to that hair dresser to show you how to properly maintain it.

can confirm the Kerastase curl manifesto line smells like heaven, if you can afford to i'd definitely splurge on the Curl Masque, the other products in the line are lovely but it's all expensive and the masque has the most active repair and hydration ingredients. i work in a Kerastase salon :) also for anyone wondering it's pronounced 'Kera-stahs'

@@lolirasmith5234 This is a Jheri curl which requires a tremendous amount of oil/moisturizer. The chemical to texturize can cause the hair to become fragile and break. In the 80's people wore plastic bags on their head to keep their hair from falling out. This is just a new name.
A jerri curl and a wave nouveau are not the same. With a jerri curl you must use a curl activator, which is fine if you don'tmind going around with wet hair. Wave nouveaus don’t require the use of the activator.
First off you have Beautiful hair any way but back when I had a curly I used the products that was used with the perm my shedding was none but using shampoos that are not recommended causes alot of shedding
What I want to know is if the wave nouveau she’s donning requires touching up/reapplication to the roots every 6 to 8 weeks like the Carefree Curls did back in the day.
Sorry I commented while watching b4 it ended 😆have you noticed it’s much dryer? Or any extra tangles/knots out of nowhere? I had a curly perm and had those issues.

You have to touch it up when the roots grow out. That’s when the problems come in because it’s so easy to overprocess. That’s the main reason I gave up chemicals and my hair was pretty long with chemical processing
@@SE-gs6gd yeah, that's what I'm afraid of. Atleast when Chem straightened you can flat iron or blow dry the roots til you get a good new growth length to not be too close, but with a curly perm it's rough. I tried again thinking I could handle it well, but again it got over processed. Now I don't want to touch it, lol, but it's so tempting. You always get that "I can handle it" thought, but ugg, ha
Go back to hair dresser for maybe a recommendation on maybe deep conditioner or a protein but go to the shop . And she can asses and make sure it’s all good
You shouldn't scratch your scalp, it damages the follicles. Also, try using Seabreeze for the scalp instead of the ACV solution. It is less harsh and disinfect the scalp, so dandruff stops coming back.

I just got one too. I am afraid to get the retouch. I heard that it can fall out. Have you had a retouch? Any recommendations? Your hair is lovely btw!:)
It will definitely break off if you do not get it retouched. You will have 2 opposing textures fighting each other and the new growth will win while the chemical texture will admit defeat and break away. It won't be pretty.

Good information thx for sharing sis! I was concerned about this as well for her and I’m definitely not doing this 😮
Between wave nouveau and Hawaian silk, which one better
I don’t use all of the products she used. I shampoo, condition, then add a curling conditioner cream and scrunch it with my hands. Last I spray it with oil sheen. Will that hurt my hair too? I’m a little worried after reading these helpful comments.
Can you use the same oils?
@@artiscrutial this is not true at all. pls do your read before listening to random ppl. you can use the same product you used before. as long if you keep your hair hydrated and moisturized, you’re okay.
I’m thankful for going natural because it taught me how to care for my hair but chiile… I’m tired. My pockets are tired. The girl who does my hair? She’s tired too 😩
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣@the girl who does my hair shes tired too 😄😄😄😄
🤣
😩😭🤣
😂😂😂😂
I just wanted to add you should not put any type of brush in a perm wave or curl. You will tear your hair. Always use a wide tooth comb and start from the back and work your way up to the front! good luck Queen!
I wash only 2 times a month one of which deep condition w protein. I spray with water and then apply the wave nouveau cream in the morning and night. (Moisturize and seal) Wash and Condition with Shea moisture ultra hydrating. My hair barely sheds.
I’ll make sure to do thisssss
I just got my perm what protein treatment do you use to deep condition with?

That’s not shedding! That’s you pulling it out. You need a wide tooth detangling comb. Denman brushes are for natural hair
There a different kinds of Denman brushes. They don't all have the same number of rows or teeth. The one shown in the video should NOT be used by anyone to detangle their hair. Fingers should be used and if you don't want to spend the time. Then use a wide tooth comb.
Yup
Your hair is beautiful 😍 I am 7 months in with my Wave Nouvea and I absolutely love it 😍 No regrets for me. I am documenting my journey also.
Norzal shampoo saved me! Use it like once a month, use it every time you wash when you first get it till your scalp is clear
@@angellalamon3776 tell her Angela!!!!
@@angellalamon3776 thank you for the explanation. My mom had a Jerri Curl, but I never had one. I alway thought it was called a Jerri Curl….didn’t know why.
@@angellalamon3776
Actually he didn't invent it (I don't know why y'all think a white foreign man can create something for black people)... a black man did and sold it to Jerry. A lot of people wish he would have kept the business. He sold it for $100,000 ... He would have made way more than that if he would have kept the business. Jheri did start up the other businesses though.
It's a perm. That's what chemically curls your hair. Relaxers straighten your hair hence the word reeeelax. We be using perk the wrong way for years
Perm = permanent
Here in Florida we call it a curly kit . It’s very beautiful btw
The final dry wash + go looks BOMB 💣
Fresh Rosemary Water will help combat dandruff itchy scalp & also promotes healthy hair growth.
Olaplex will save your hair along with of course hair products for chemically treated and dry hair. If Olaplex can be used with the chemical treatment that will help a lot also. Olaplex can inform the stylist how to use Olaplex No 1 and 2 with the chemical treatment. The other Olaplex products can be used to maintain, especially No 0 and 3 every time you wash/condition.
That looks so good on you, girl!
I love it!
your head sheds 50- 100 strands of hair a day, it builds up if you haven't washed or thoroughly brushed your hair for a while.
Wave nouveau broke my hair almost completely off in about 4 weeks back in the day. My hair did well with the Jheri curl but the dry curl destroyed in 4 weeks flat.
I would get any other brand of curly perm, except the wave nouveau. Every body who has it seems to have hair breakage and starts over.
Oh nooooo so maybe I won’t consider trying this. I need long term benefits drawbacks and results 🤷🏾♀️
First of all- your hair looks amazing and your gorgeous 🥰 I have a Gina Curl curly perm and i never use a denmam brush- it’s too harsh for a Curly perm. Also, never detangle when your hair dry 🙀 it will cause your hair to break.
@theirstories 18months and I love it! I’m about to get my 3rd retouch.
@theirstories thank you! My hair is thriving 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
where’d you get a gina curl?
Your hair is so pretty, ugh you’re making me want a curly perm, it looks so much more manageable ☺️
@@aishacelestin see
My Aunt has been getting a wave nouveau (or however you spell it) for as long as I can remember. Well over 30 years. Her hair is very long and her hair is more curly that wavy. I think the way the hair looks depends on the type of hair you have. I also know a few people that get this done and they tell people it's their natural hair. Oh well...
A lot of the look depends on the size of the perm rods used.
@@anndeecosita3586 if its smaller would it be tighter??
Your hair looks amazing, but also I like the way u show how much you shedding
Beautiful... you made a great decision. Looks great.
Curly perm works for me.
When detangling try parting it in 4 sections instead of 2 big ones. I felt pain when you were brushing it gurl 😖
Get a tangle teaser sis for detangling and toss that denman.
You are so freaking pretty! Will definitely pass this video to my niece
she did so good with your hair 😍
Loveee this I just saw your original video yesterday so I was so happy to see a update today! I’m really considering getting this done.
When do you suggest getting a silk press? I love the curls but I also love my straight hair😭
If you like your straight hair, get a curly wig and rock that. This will have your hair gone if you don't take care of it properly.
I'm so glad I watched your video. I had a jherry curl all through out the 80's and watching your video makes me wanna get it again. Thank you gorgeous😍
I have dry scalp like yours. Definitely try the Head and Shoulders scalp elixir! It’s helped my scalp so much!
Why are u so dark??
Never use a denman brush to detangle either
Try Deeper than Hair. She has a youtube channel and her own products. Looks like she's the person to call about shedding and dry scalp.
Yup. She's too young to know or remember the ins and outs of the Jheri curl and its maintinance. Keep that plastic cap and curl activator on the ready sis!
Please dont mix other products with Wave nouveau 😳😳
Love ❤️ the curly perm on you. Looks so fresh and youthful TFS
Haven't finished the entire video yet but your hair looks very good! You have a great routine down, you use hair masques, and general take care of your hair.
I have never had this done but it's cool to watch!
Oh BTW you got a Wave Nuveau done! It's a type if curl perm or the name of the brand you used to get "curly" perm results.
Girl you treating your hair like it's still natural
this is so interesting to watch even though I have curly hair already 😭
can confirm the Kerastase curl manifesto line smells like heaven, if you can afford to i'd definitely splurge on the Curl Masque, the other products in the line are lovely but it's all expensive and the masque has the most active repair and hydration ingredients. i work in a Kerastase salon :)
also for anyone wondering it's pronounced 'Kera-stahs'
Omg I love the curls so much very pretty
This process will bring your hair out by the root. This is a Jerry curl and she tries to work with this process as if she has natural curly hair. Ladies please be careful and not cause yourself to develop alopecia.
can you explain what you should do if ur hair is permed instead of this routine?
@@lolirasmith5234 This is a Jheri curl which requires a tremendous amount of oil/moisturizer. The chemical to texturize can cause the hair to become fragile and break. In the 80's people wore plastic bags on their head to keep their hair from falling out. This is just a new name.
@@carolyndavis3152 thank you so much! and when should you wear the plastic cap?

I also call this generically as a curly perm. Jheri Curl is a brand name. Wave Nouveau is a brand name.
A jerri curl and a wave nouveau are not the same. With a jerri curl you must use a curl activator, which is fine if you don'tmind going around with wet hair. Wave nouveaus don’t require the use of the activator.
So we are just going to ignore how pretty her voice is. Kool.
Gorgeous gal ! That's good your keeping it moist that helps stop breaking ❤🥰
it looks so good omg
First off you have Beautiful hair any way but back when I had a curly I used the products that was used with the perm my shedding was none but using shampoos that are not recommended causes alot of shedding
Curly perm is exactly what I’ve been looking for. Any videos about the curly perm? Brand, process, etc? - Oops, found it. Thx!
Can you do a video with curly clip ins that match your curl pattern? I want to see if it will blend with long weave and more fullness
What I want to know is if the wave nouveau she’s donning requires touching up/reapplication to the roots every 6 to 8 weeks like the Carefree Curls did back in the day.
In my day we called it a Jheri curl. I had it in the 80s when I was a little girl.
Sorry I commented while watching b4 it ended 😆have you noticed it’s much dryer? Or any extra tangles/knots out of nowhere? I had a curly perm and had those issues.

Okay y’all bomb in these comments I can’t write these notes fast enoughhhhhh
I am concerned about the smell of the product. And how often do you get a perm?
so is this how I should do my hair when i wash it and after? Because I was doing my hair today for school, moisturizing it and that stuff and I noticed part of my hair was wavy like your hair but my hair is natural not permed. I thought my hair would be curly one day but instead it's wavy. d you know any hair products or type of shampoo and hair brushes I should start using.
The style came beautiful…
Do you get touch ups on your permed hair for the new growth? When do you go to have it done, how many months after? Ty 🥰
I had this curl process done and it got over processed on the third or fourth touch up. It all fell out, but grew back SO fast and healthy cause it was like a natural big chop. I tried again thinking I could handle it well, but again it got over processed. Now I don't want to touch it, lol, but it's so tempting. You always get that "I can handle it" thought, but ugg, ha

It is call Jerry curls
After you get the curly perm do you have to keeping perming it regularly or you just do it once and it’s done?
Every 2-3 months.
Gorgeous!! What lip are you wearing?
You shouldn't scratch your scalp, it damages the follicles. Also, try using Seabreeze for the scalp instead of the ACV solution. It is less harsh and disinfect the scalp, so dandruff stops coming back.
She seems to be causing her own issues. Talking about the she is greasing her scalp and what not. I wanted to ask her did she realize she had a chemical process done and it requires a different routine from natural hair????

I just got one too. I am afraid to get the retouch. I heard that it can fall out. Have you had a retouch? Any recommendations? Your hair is lovely btw!:)
A perm isn’t any harsher than a relaxer right? I totally understand your concern though.
It's a chemical, if you don't get the retouch it will start to break.
It will definitely break off if you do not get it retouched. You will have 2 opposing textures fighting each other and the new growth will win while the chemical texture will admit defeat and break away. It won't be pretty.
