Back in the day this was called a jerry curl. The problem is having to have it moist all of the time. I like to be able to touch my hair and not have wet oily hands from it.
Omg 😩the memories. My mother was a hairdresser back in the 80's and I used to love watching her do Jerri curls unfortunately she died young of cancer 😢
My mother as well what's a cosmetologist and she knew everything about hair. I used to watch her do her thing and she too died from cancer at an early age.😢😢
Yep I was the hairdresser around that time ( early 90s) also I took a 10 year break from doing anything concerning hair for that very reason. I even went natural am in my 50s now because they did tell us in cosmetology you actually have a lifespan 25 of years in the field of cosmetology because of the chemicals and repetitions and shoulders loses strength. It was in our books it was part of our curriculum

Really enjoyed your video. I’m English/ white lady , been having perms since the 1970s , it’s the only way to control my thick strong hair. Now age 65 and it’s still thick and a mind if it’s own. You took such care and attention in your process, much better than my hairdresser. Along with chemical burns and ending up like a drown rat and tops ruined , the thought never crossed my mind that you could perm your type of hair with out having problems, so thanks for the education. The end result was amazing ❤
My God You’re the Professional i was looking for. As a portuguese speaker i was looking for vídeos in portuguese about how to apply perm by myself cz last year i spent 260€ to do that in a hair Salon this price without the Transport bcz here Where i live there is just 1 Salon i know that they do perm in african hair and it is 4hours far from me, but i went there last year i have to be honest the Woman was not so carefully like you were With your client maybe because she saw i hd Virgin afro hair. She didnt put any Protection on my scalp she just aply the product. Thank God i did not get hit with the chemical. So it has been 5months that i did it. 2months After the process a lost the curls or wave maybe it is normal but i cant See myself paying this money again. My hair is very Natural at the top and i want do the perm by myself with a help from my boyfriend in February. I‘v order the Wella Straight to do this and i saw o hv used also something called booster so i Look on Internet booster from Wella i find alot and dont know which one i should buy. Can u please give me a tipp? I would be very thankful Sorry for my English not my Language
I am thankful for your video. Did my curly perm on 08/10/2024 and am loving it!!! it followed your direction and it came out really nice thanks again. Mati
Reminds me of the care free curl, jeri curl days back in the 80s and 90s...i had the care free curl and it grew my hair like crazy...but after a while i went natural...be careful of those chemicals though...thanks for sharing this her hair looks great!
first time I see a stylist using a base prior to using chemicals. Did not it even existed. All I have seen up to now is the use of vaseline around the edges and nape area. Great results! Congradulations
You did a great job!! I have been giving my hair a rest for the past 2 years and am now looking for a way to KEEP my hair!! Great alternative! I love how you take extra care and do the cotton around the ears and fresh towels!! I just don't see that in the salon anymore. It seems they want to burn your hair and kick you out!😁
I haven’t had this done to my hair since the 1980’s. It’s crazy how styles come back. I love it, but I’m much more interested in keeping my hair the way it grows out of my scalp these days. However, I feel that all hair that comes out of your scalp is natural if it’s not a wig or weave.
Though using different products know that you are my role model many of tutorials i do follow you though my English is hectic in taking i love you Thank you
I've been thinking about getting me a Jerry curl for a few months now. I think Imma end up doing it too, bring that s-curl activator and moisturizer back lol
you ACTUALLY rinse the hair very very well...most stylists dont do that when you have been going to them for a while..they get lazy about rinsing and tell lies... I havent had any good experiences with hair stylists
Thank you for showing the very detailed process, including all the proper draping of the client. The last several steps seem very similar to a curly perm for European/Caucasian hair. Given that you are using a thiol product that will break down the disulfide bonds, and then a neutralizer to help them reconnect in their new positions (which sounds to me just like the perms for Caucasian hair) is it absolutely required to do the separate relaxing step first?
Where is your salon Meka? You are so detailed and thorough. Excellent job! I'm a full Natural that would consider a chemical treatment but it's tricky to find thorough stylists that prioritize healthy hair.

Yes, you right. I had a Jerry curl back in the day
Right, it’s still a curl
It does not have to be wet and oily it depends how you keep you curl nice a dry yet beautiful and radiant..
Same product, just rebranding 🤔. Will sit back and see how long it last. Used to be kinda on messy side tho🤦🏽♀️
Been there done that……

Cosmetologists go to school and learn the why’s, the how’s, etc. Stylists are just that someone who styles hair.
