I'm so excited for this video! What will you be using this year?
My 7th grader will be using...Principles of Mathematics 2, Apologia General Science, Sonlight Core H with World's Story 3, and Grammar Galaxy Nova with Not Consumed's middle school reading log. She's working on a reading plan through the Bible in 3 years, and we're going to do Not Consumed's scripture memory together. My preschooler will be working on being less feral😂
We’re using “How Jesus Built His Church” for Church history. We received ours a few days ago and it’s BEAUTIFUL!
Mine shipped today and I can't wait to see it!
Me too!
We love, love, love Dave Raymond’s history, but it’s workload is pretty intense. I was under the impression is was geared for grades 9-12. I’m sure your son will love it! It focuses more on why things happened and people’s motivations based on first person documents.
My 8th grader is doing How Jesus Built His Church, too! We're also going to do World Lit in Redefining School :)
Yay! We think you will love Apologia General Science, and the lab kits from Nature's Workshop are amazing. Have a great year.
Thank you!
Do you have a video on what a day or week school schedule looks like? Do you do everything every day or some subjects just a couple days a week, and if so, how do you do that? I’m going to have a 7th grader next year and still have yet to finish researching and picking curriculum. I’m trying to wrap my head around how to schedule everything.
We do everything everyday...
Bible
Penmanship
Language Arts
* break
Science
History
* lunch
Math
Latin
Math is the longest course at 1hr, 15 min. Everything else is about 10-45 minutes each, depending on what it is. I like the consistency. The repetition makes it predictable for my daughter.
When my mornings get hectic, I have sometimes had my daughter start with math, which she does independently, while I settle my other younger two.
I am on the struggle bus this year trying to find 7th grade curriculum that will work for our son. We are introducing a bunch of assistive technology, mainily speech to text and program to read for him when needed. For sure we will use fix it grammar, trying style and structure.
We are also going to be doing Apologia’s General Science this fall 😁 can’t wait! Our lab kit just arrived this past weekend. My oldest is very excited ☺️
My 7th grader will be doing Countries and Cultures from MFW, Teaching Textbooks, Apologia General Science, Fix It Grammar, IEW Structure and Style, Phonetic Zoo, and Progeny Press for reading. One of those study guides is for Swiss Family Robinson too!
Excited to see your video on How Jesus Built his Church! Wondering how similar it is to the Europe textbook.
My 7th graders will be doing Apologia's General Science course this year. I kinda panicked when I saw how thick the notebook was! 😬They're reading Practical Happiness and Swiss Family Robinson from Generations. I've been eyeing How Jesus Built His Church and may add that to our lineup. There's so many great options out there that it's hard to narrow it down!
I'm upping my 8th grader's science this year to prepare her for high school - we chose Journey Homeschool Academy's Earth Science for middle schoolers.
Can I ask which kit you have from Nature Workshop plus? We also have the Apologia General Science curriculum.
I'm combining a few different stories in both Great Christian Adventures and Great Christian Stories for Children for lit, as well. I don't feel Redefining School can stand alone... it's just not enough.
We really enjoyed Redefining School last year and will be doing it again this year as well. Is he planning to do the World or US Literature?
Hello Mandy! I have a question about the steaming for Structure & Style… when the children sign in to stream their classes, is it on our (the parents’) personal account? Or is there a separate sign in with their own password?
It’s in one account, the parent account. Super easy.
@@mandy-maltz Ahh! Ok, thank you. So, they will find it in my downloaded files? I’ll have to change my personal password to one they know.
I love all of your picks. My son will be in 7th grade too. He will be using the same science and lab kit. Not Consumed for Bible. Sonlight for World History, literature, composition, and history. CLE for grammar, spelling and reading. He loves to read too. Word Roots for vocabulary. We need to find a typing program, but I don’t want something that’s all game based, so I haven’t figured out what he will be using yet. He will practice writing his Bible memory verse to keep up his cursive practice. For his extras he will be starting with a study skills program. Then he will be using Usborne for architecture and engineering. When he finishes all 3 of those he will pick something from Campfire. I have a rising 5th grader as well if anyone wants to hear what she will be using.
@heidibarker2120, Which Usborne books are you using for architecture and engineering? My 7th grader is interested in these topics. Thanks!
@@pmorrow3131 they are called Engineer Academy and Architect Academy. They look fun. The architecture covers famous buildings, construction math, drawing and models, construction, fields of architecture, and a few hands on activities. Engineer covers mechanical engineering, aerospace, robotics, energy, materials, and some hands on activities.
Please share 5th grade. Thanks 🌼
@@user-vg8ez9cu6u hello. My 5th grader will be using:
~ Bible - Not Consumed (we have 5 studies for the year. I’m happy to share which ones if you are interested)
~ math - Horizons 5
~ Science - Apologia Anatomy and Physiology with Nature’s Workshop lab kit.
~ history & geography- Beautiful Feet Books Around California and Holling geography and mapping
~ grammar & reading - CLE grade 5
~ composition- Jump In (using the 2 year schedule)
~ readers - she will read some of the books from our history study and I will read some. When she isn’t doing the reading, she will read the Little House series during our reading time. For reading time we all sit and read for 30 minutes, including me.
@@user-vg8ez9cu6u oh and she will be doing Vocabulary Virtuoso.
New to homeschooling. Can you pick and choose different subjects from different curriculums? Or is it all from one curriculum?
Absolutely you can pick and choose. I've switched curriculum countless times. I think some companies excel in certain subjects than others, so being eclectic helps. But others find something they like and struck with it and that's ok too.
I'm thinking about Structure and Style Year 1 Level A (with fix it grammer and a few readers) for my 3rd graders. (Coming from TG&TB). Has anybody came from TG&TB to IEW? I'm hoping it will be good change 🤞. Not going to lie though, I'm a bit nervous!
We have! You will be so much happier with the change to IEW 😁❤
❤ we love IEW and fix it grammar!
The Simple Plan planners are on sale today at Mardel!
Wow, so 3rd edition General Science uses the 2nd edition audio book?
I'm not sure, as I haven't used it yet. Nature's Workshop sent the entire package to me (SO sweet of them!). I'll have to check it when we start using it.
Mandy,
I have watched your video several times and I can not find the science kit and have some other questions if you can please get back with me. thansks
The science kits are here: www.workshopplus.com?ref=mandymaltz
@@mandy-maltz Ok thank you got it... I was on Apologia website the other day after i watched your video and it showed a sample lesson of a dark-haired lady teaching in the right hand corner and she was showing slides and interacting with the class through a message board... I can NOT find her or that sample anywhere and I called the company today and she had no clue what I was talking about. Do you happen to know what Im talking about before I think I am going crazy. lol Thanks
@@RocksyMocksy I don’t, I’m sorry. I would just call and ask ❤️
I have a lot of questions I'm new in homeschooling need help
You can ask tons of questions in my group here: facebook.com/groups/handmadehomeschooler
@@mandy-maltz ok I did it
Is IEW a Christian curriculum?
Yes
I believe their Structure and Style series is neutral.
