Imagine being on the Japanese oil tanker Tonan Maru which takes 11 dud torpedoes from an American sub after taking 1 torp that exploded but still managing to escape.
The interaction with ship survivor is quite funny actually, I could imagine the confusion amongst them when they take their officers as prisoner in exchange for ten loafs of bread, "yeah, we'll take your captain as POW, and for them, here some Stollen, Baumkuchen, and Pretzels"
Wolfpack + submarines is something I'll always stop what I'm doing to watch. Love to see more Uboat stuff, dude! It's been a hot minute! Full campaign perhaps?
I love your German U-Boat content. That game has come so far over the years. Your game play is like watching a tv show. I love it and I'm always looking forward to your next episode.
So, funny thing about Q-ships: They got the US into WW1. The rules of war at the time demanded that in order to attack a civilian ship, even one sailing under an enemy's flag, you first had to identify yourself to them and demand their surrender. Anything else was a war crime. This worked fine for german U-boats in the early days of the war. They'd surface next to a target, tell the crew to hop into their lifeboats and scuttle the ship with minimal fuss. But then Q-ships entered the scene. Suddenly U-boat commanders were in a bit of a bind. If they tried following the rules and their target turned out to be a Q-ship, they were dead. If they used their stand-off weapons (torpedoes), they were committing a war crime. The british and french were pretty sure they had Germany in a perfect trap and their cargo vessels would be left alone now. Unsurprisingly, the germans went for the "torpedo it without warning" approach, arguing that by hiding armed ships among their cargo vessels the entente powers had effectively declared all cargo vessels under their flags combatants and therefore legitimate targets for surprise attacks. This eventually led to the sinking of a british-flagged ocean liner that took over a hundred US citizens down with it and caused public opinion in the US to turn fully against Germany.
Moral of the story is don't carry passangers on an auxilliary warship also carrying 4.2 million rifle cartridges, 50 tonnes of 3" shells and other war supplies.
@@Slahinki My point exactly don't cry foul when Germany sinks you, because you were the one that were being dishonorable and sneaky, under handed and using meat shields, then many years later, USA would do the same when bombing hospitals argueing the same point they used long ago.
This wasn't the only reason, the Black Tom explosion where a fire lead to a mass detonation of stockpiled munitions bound for British and French ports which were stored in vessels and warehouses on Black Tom, an area of reclaimed land in New York that was formerly a garbage island and developed into dockside warehouses, freight vessel berths and associated cargo handling areas. The blast demolished the island and threw debris both large and small great distances into surrounding built up areas, and peppered the statue of liberty with metallic shrapnel forcing it's closure for repairs. I'm not sure if they ever verified whether it was an act of state terrorism on the US' doorstep by German operatives as a lot of the evidence was destroyed in the blast, but it was interpreted as such.
german torpedo duds were super common. It was estimated that something like 1/3rd of torpedo hits at the beginning of the war were duds. If those duds had not been duds, its very likely the british fleet would have been seriously depleted in the first 2 years of the war. I think doenitz said something to the affect 'in the history of warfare, no warring party has gone to war with such ineffective tools'
The US Navy's torpedoes were even worse. The Bureau of Ordinance refused to conduct peacetime testing of torpedo performance because "torpedoes are expensive". As such, only about one in three torpedoes would even propel themselves, and one in five had functional detonators.
Shooting 3 torps at a merchantman. Wolfpack, you know you are sailing a U-boat and not a US Gato right? Also someone needs to make a Submariner mod for U-boat. A U-boat crew would have found room to store canned meat and cheese.
I dont know if this works in this game. but in real life they aimed at the funnel to start bigg fires and stop the ship. The funnels had vital oil pipes and cooling coils in them. I just noticed you do not go after the funnels that much.
The last attack was brutal Around 1 minute before the ship sunked, anyone who escaped from that ship was outside, anyone inside possibly didnt even had the chance to try to escape
I just watched the first vid of this new U-boat series. You had a lot more cinematic shots of the sub. I am curious of the change between this vid and the first 3 weeks ago. Would you be able to get a screen of under water shot of the torp before impact instead of the usual above water shot with the splash. Would like to see the underwater view of a ships hull as the torp comes in. Enjoying this so far looking forward to more!

@Christopher Huhmann Makes it sound like a jet engine and bleeds the battery dry pretty quickly though. Playing with a charger solves the latter issue at least.
You should try sending your torps a little deeper. C3 has 7.3m draught. I'd probably set my torps to 6m. They tend to do a lot more damage if you get them closer to the keel
@@oll-turny-llo8200 The US 75mm HE round would penetrate about 50mm steel armor plate, nearly 2 inches. Liberty ship hulls were made of high carbon steel roughly half to three-quarters inch thick. A german 75 or 88 HE round would have no trouble penetrating this cheap steel.
He did say in the video that there was a mod that changed the ship "health" system to be based on physics and buoyancy, but the vanilla game I think just uses a "health" system, with flooding and fire doing damage over time it would seem.
hi wolfpack, I love your content, but I have a question, how did the subs deal with water entering the escape pipe for the diesel engines in weathers like this? when they were on the surface
@@IIXenon correct, and if the intake was cut off temporarily by the water it would be drawn in from the hull causing a not so fun experience for the crew. Or so I heard

for some reason my torpedos are bouncing off ships not duds just making the ships bounce off and start going in another direction, is there arming distance? cause its getting irritating any help would be very appreciated. i wanna play more but its getting very annoying

Hey man I don’t know if you will see this but I need help deciding if I should get uboat or destroyer unpatriotic hunter. Any help would be appreciated

Could you imagine how terrifying it is to hear a dud hit the side of the ship
|*clonk!*
Only surpassed by a non-dud sound D:
I suppose the more terrifying thing isn't the sound of the dud, but the wait for the one that isn't a dud coming after that

Lucky for them they're near Gibraltar, I'd hate to be stuck in a lifeboat in the middle of the Atlantic
It'll be nice when this comes out of early access, I'd love to see a full campaign!
A bear did cocaine🤣
I don't have high hopes for it... sub sims are such a niche genre, they have probably already reached 50% of their sales at best.

I'm not sure if the game models it or not, but I'd think firing the deck gun at, or slightly below the waterline, would be more effective.
With armour piercing maybe. high explosive is designed to start fires on the deck and superstructure, not pierce the Hull at the waterline.
