I don’t suppose it was on a show called Best Of The Tube or Best Of The Old Grey Whistle Test or something like that was it? If so, I saw the same thing, and then watched it again on the +1 channel!! Incredible slap bass efforts here!!
was at one of those gigs in Manchester (I'm gonna guess 1988 not sure) its not just Russel Jackson who is super!! BTW its the Dynamics of the whole band ( I've only played in a few that got it) that Is frankly mind blowing stuff about how its done. love this so much even is snobs say its not "tight"........it is. you dont know the blues. Top Man BB
Holy smokes. Seen that video on a TV show one night in 2004 i guess... Then found it on youtube many years later. And coming back to it every year or so. That vid is clearly a true diamond. Russell above clouds. And BB as usual... The bend where it is supposed to be. Not anywhere else.
you are a legend for posting this clip jjtrooster....havnt seen it in so long..this solo made me change from guitar to bass all those years ago...peace to you.....
@LiveSound Me too ♪ a jam session back in the early 80's along Gene Carrier & Leonard Gill on guitar -agree..great fella Russell!... was about to destroy my bass! whatta bassplayer indeed ☺♪
Superb!... I was jammin with him long long ago... Russell was my teacher in a way! when he started playin' I went something like 'well fellow I'd better go..I cant play a single bar from yer stuff! he had a Fender P and enjoyed playing James Jamerson's basslines. Russell was so kind..he showed me how to play some of his picks'n'slaps.. Now I can play 0.3% of his stuff... not bad... Jeez! This guy is
Still great in 2024!
Was at a blues camp 2024, he was the instructor. What a guy, and he can play awesome.
Russell is leagues above many other performers musically and a great guy as well!
I dont know much about blues and I dont know much about the bass, but I watched this solo on tv 20+ years ago and I never forgot it.

I always loved BB King. And seriously.. what rusell jackson doing with his guitar is just CRAZY!
Love the look on BB's face at about 4.20, as if he's saying 'Yeah, that's enough of that, let's get on with it", superb......
HOLY MOLY!!!! What a gem!
The Queen was asked about the second verse. She said, "Recollections may vary!"
Totally brilliant, the best blues guy in the world, go bb fantastic !!!
