As someone who hasn't played any new version of AOE2 since 2013, I have to say that it blows my mind that now you can queue tasks with your units. And you can have a button to find the units you want to control. It makes ALL the difference. I remember doing all this Dark Age stuff in the old Forgotten Empires... Also, I see the map generation is way better. You used to have maps where your first sheep was not close enough, or your boars were super far. Can't wait to play this again!
it is because the game wants to make some control difficulities to you. For example, the game can actually give buildings auto-making units. Then new players wont forget to make villagers. BUt the game is design to make you not easy, so to differential pro players and new players.
It's actually to take focus from econonomy/macro play and focus more on micro/combat play... This makes the game more interresting for eevery1,, except for the simcity builders.. @@sixstrongguys
I still play the original to this day and yeah having no sheep on your starting screen is annoying. Also if you only get a little lump of stone and the other one is far away. That, and not being able to queue tasks. Still a great game though. :)
On a serious note hera bro, i learned something watching you since i started. I am confident i am at least at 50%-60% of your speed at my average now sometimes a little more. The trick/secret is to nto be intimidated and try to do all the tasks, i made LOADS OD MISTAKES AND LOSSES but one day i logged in and i was like HOLYF, everything clicked and my brain can't keep up with my muscle memory. It started with me trying to scout with 6 sheeps, often i was able to control 2 or 3 max and often i forgot the scout for s few seconds , the tc for a second or two, died to boars... you know mistakes. But i did not stop trying and eventually i was doing all this shit without even thinking about it. That's when it came to me, "i see people at 1300-1500 not even trying to overwhelm themselves so they don't ever learn" The pro tip is, keep making mistakes, as long as you don't stop trying muscle memory will eventually kick in.
I think it would interesting to see a video covering how to properly read/anticipate strategies. i.e. If you've scouted your opponent and they're on gold, but in Feudal you see they dropped two ranges, you should react with X buildings/units accordingly.
Wow. I genuinely didn't realize that this is something I needed until I read this comment lol. I'm decent at starting off the game but I'm horrible when it starts leaning into the mid game.
Thats was a nice tutorial! I think you should've added a quick "what to do next": wood upgrade, farm upgrade, wall with 1 vil, vills to stragglers and then farms... that kind of stuff
Something like this? first 6 villagers on sheep then 3 wood 1 go boar 1 more on food 1 make house, then make mill (put house as part of wall) 1 more on food 1 go boar (10 total on boar+sheep) 1 berries 1 berries 1 berries (4 total on berries) 1 wood (next two on wood) 1 wood 20/20 (5 total on wood) loom level up move 5 villagers to another woodcamp make house + barracks 1 (1 villager on each building so two villagers can defend against scout) objective: find all sheep find both bores (3 if scandinavia)
For people having trouble finding the extra sheep: The 2x2 extra sheep is always the same distance from yours and everyone else’s TCs on Arabia (unless patched out very recently). Meaning, if you find 2 sheep 10 tiles away from your TC, the other sheep will be somewhere else the same distance. If you lame your opponent, those sheep will also be 10 tiles away.
Damn brother that is indeed some valuable information; thank you alot. Usualy it goes pretty smooth scouting for sheep, but there is always that one game where I go crazy looking for the second pair 11

If anyone is having trouble, I'd recommend practicing on slow speed a few times at first. It helps you get an idea of what comes next without breaking your flow or missing a frucial step and having to scratch the practice sesh.
Good idea, either than or practice on udual speed but without the intimidated mentality which is what i did. First day, i started vs the exteeme AI "to get a sense of when an attacj will come approx, which is apparently around min 10-11 for the AI depends on what it is doing" I started by sending all vills on 1 sheep, then second sheep, 7th vill pulls boar, 8th goes to straggler in berries direction 9th builds a house and pulls the second boar, 10th builds lumber camp and"either he or berries builds one more house if i FC a depends on map" then vills build up till i have 12 on boar split them 6 6 on sheep after boar and during all that time i used my 6 sheep to scout which was the WHOLE POINT of starting on boar in my first day. The point is, this build order forced me to try to scout with 6 sheep, and my scout , WHILE pulling boars and splittinf vills and building and keeping tc busy. Practicing this hard build gave me the muscle memory i needed to start ranked in literally 2 days. 3rd day i started getting my vils into the TC when pulling boars to shoot arrows "Nd boy i lost many boars 😂" but now i pretty much perfected it. Next day i started pushing deer, and becauuse all the previous stuff became muscle memory adding 1 thing at s time quickly adds in the rotation. Let me think, what came after deer pushing, i think it wad walling? Not really sure but walling came at somd point too, after walling i started spamming the keybinds more " already uded them but slowly" but now i am jumping 300000 times a min "really just half hera's speed" but yea i keybinded the "last notification" to my spacebar and my select all tcs to my extra mouse keys and hopping yo tc to my capslock and started spamming shit although made me dizzy until my brain started to keep up. Right mow i am at " scout enemies" where my scouts die a lot but i totally forgot about the " 3 gold /stone tiles/hills" thing hera mentioned here, so niw i know how to fix that. I made the calculation and perfect feudal for 20 pop is 9:15. That’s exactly what you did. Best I could do was 9:25. I also was trying a build with 21 pop, perfect is 9:40, the best I could do was 9:49. For now I’ll stay with the 21 pop because when doing the 20 I often find myself lacking a little bit of food to click feudal.
Dont worry about that too much. I personaly allocate a few more vills to wood and take a little bit more to click up. That's so when I hit feudal, I can transition to farms better, wall up, build my archery range and archers for raiding. Feudal is such a wood hungry age.

I think most people know all these steps, its just the actual practising of it, or if you get drushed will change things. Like I'm below 1000 elo, but I don't practice or even play Ranked. I'm 1. too slow to play this good (switching back and forth from scout to vils and placing buildings etc. and 2. because I don''t have it practised super well, my mind is too occupied on ensuring where the next vil goes even how many vils I have. When I start trying to play faster I make alot of mistakes loosing vils to boars, vils taking extra sheep etc. I can see my own mistakes and know what they are. Hera clearing doesn't need to think like "hmm, this is my 17th vil, so I need to send it to wood, that will be lets see 7 vils on wood so the next one will also go on wood and then click loom, oh shit I haven't moved my scout in ages, what are those vils doing oh I forgot to change the gather point". Just Dark age takes alot of practice to be able to consistently do all things well. Practise practise practise and focused practise. But that just boring for me.
Great stuff! I have a small suggestion for future vids. I'd like to know which tasks are crucial and which are not so much. Like you mentioned about the choice of woodline which was, I presume, due to the fact that at 2 mins we do not have scouting of opponent base's direction and can't tell which of our woodlines is on the back and which one on the side. Personally, I consider it crucial that I lay the foundation of the first house with the 2 vills that spawn together although you placed the first house with the solitary vill. I could see that it didn't matter. I also consider scouting in a circle superior to going straight through the middle of the map and then make a turn to one side for obvious reasons. Is that crucial or not? Likewise, as you get aware about the bad habits of players at say intermediate and higher level (1400+), kindly let us know that this is what you've observed students focus on which is of less importance. Thanks again for great content, appreciate the focused efforts!
Something I wondered about is why make 2 lumber camps? Like, I get that they are cheap, but they still cost something, and Feudal age comes next and you will need lots of wood. I usually just make 1 lumber camp near a woodline and assign more villagers over time to that tree line based on how much wood I need. Am I missing something here?
Due to spread, 1 lumber with 10 vils means there will be vill far for deposit (also making them more vulnerable to raid or became expensive to wall), while 2 lumbers means less travel and less wall.
Thanks for the video. It's nice to have something that II can refer to whenever I have trouble remembering what I should be doing. I did think this video would be the Goth endless Militia rush though.
I like this game but fuck playing like that no wonder I lose every game I play online I'm not smoking meth, taking adderall, or snorting coke to do 1000 apm
It's all like this when you play online, it's not worth the torture unless you're good, even playing against the A.I on harder difficulties is challenging! I can't beat hard, even though I watch tutorials etc, it doesn't seem to go to plan ever, everything I do seems to be countered, I create archers, they create Knights, I create Knights, they create Pikemen etc, it's so demanding, it hurts my eyes!
Nice video! Subbed! How do you know how many sheep, cows, llama, turkeys e.t.c are near your base? Doing random arabia 1v1 skirmishes vs computer and I'm getting some maps with 8 llama total, is it always 8 turkey/sheep/llamma/cow e.t.c ?
Lol. I've been practicing and was trying to figure out why even when I didn't make any mistakes I still never had even close to enough food at 20 vills to age up. Turns out I didn't realize he also got loom right before he aged up. LOL.
how you delete the walls all in once, i tried and the front walls also delete, what setting should i active or why when i double click de back walls select some of the fornt walls, please help me
Absolutely. Usually the best place to build secondary tc will be chokepoints like a cliff and a woodline, or those that connect a gold/stone and a woodline. If not possible, then they should protect vulnerable resources like a forward stone or gold. And yes, chaining buildings to form makeshift walls is common practice. Arena players often link their houses, blacksmith, etc. forming a second layer of protection.
Dark age is ok, but what to do after mid-Castle age? Your build order saturates so you have to wonder every 15 seconds what your next command would be.
i think a lot depends on your opponent and how you want to progress, sit back and eco or push/all in. so many variables the further you get in. i can do dark age pretty fast now and have a bit of a plan but when that changes i struggle. but ive only been playing 3 weeks.
I think what would really help noobs like me is if you would divide the video by chapters, like first 3 vil, next vil to food, and so on. You move so fast I had a rough time breaking it in to steps. But very valuable content. Thanks!
@@ahmadsulaymaniyah1646 I just started to think about going back to the game of my childhood and watched it so many times today! Hahah Slowly I think I am getting it. Good luck guys!
There is a mod in game called interactive build order guide. It does exactly what you describe inside a scenario for many builds. The only thing is you have no context of what you are doing or why your build has fallen apart.
Hello Hera. I'm a great fan of you. One of my motivations to improve is one day playing against you and the other pros. But I'm sorry to say, how you leave 1 vil to eat the sheep and put the rest to the boar is not the most efficient way (4:00). I hate being the guy saying ThAt'S nOt ThE mOsT EfFiCieNt but this is a video about a PERFECT dark age and I feel I need to be a pain for once. The most efficient way is to put all your vils to the smallest animal (the sheep) and then move all of them to the boar. I have done several experiments and you get around 15 more of food doing it this way. I can post a video proving it to anyone. Keep posting these videos, it's good quality and very entertaining.
This is crazy! Just wanted to quickly point out at around 4:05 you mention that the mill should be touching the berries but I think Spirit did a video where he found that placing it one tile away is very slightly more efficient. Could be an old video so there may be some outdated information I'm not aware of, just wanted to mention it.
One away is more efficient if you have 5 villagers. With 4 its best to have 2 on each side. Also one tile away makes it much easier to do small walls so its a good idea if you are up against someone that is going to likely do MAA opening (Aztecs, bulgarians, Japanese, Burmese, etc)
When you are trying to take notes at the speed of crack! Lol great information though still trying to follow and get out of the dark age at the sametime
Im playing this game 20 years offline i never saw a tutoriar and i was proud of reaching feudal age at 10.30-11 mins😂.. i had no idea that i can lure a boar what a shame
You probably can go lower, but getting to Feudal first doesn't win you the game. It's about getting to Feudal asap with the optimal villager/resource/speed ratios for your civ/strategy so that when you hit Feudal you have the advantage over someone who just rushed their Feudal without any thought on what they would need once they got there.
Remember when the Intro from Age of Empires 2 was about to 2 kings playing chess? Well.. This is it now?!?! I have no idea how players that aren't playing like a maniac are able to compete with these pros dayum. I mean I like the way how you can manage everything these days in this game but something bothers me a bit like is this real fun like does it make you happy playing a maniac? 😂🤣
there are a few guides on that on YT have a look. i think its more an efficiency thing than time saving as such tho. plus if not careful easy to kill the boar i would imagine.
@@CrnaStrela the TC does more dmg than the vils, so that's why people do it, 2 volleys of TC fire is faster than the vils firing, also this way the tc is free of vils and it's easier to find a place for the boar in the middle, sometimes they bump into vils and die outside the tc, which is not ideal. Poor boar :(
I noticed you went 4 on wood then went scouts. I find it hard to adapt sometimes a different dark age for maa/scouts (builds normally have 3 wood for sc). Would this dark age be suitable for most builds or was it just meant to show all the other stuff rather than eco balance?
Nice video, except that I feel if I’m playing this, I should be walling already. So maybe add some introductions to walling too, like when, how many vils and how large walls should be.
On Arabia there is probably no reason to be walling at this stage, if your opponent is going drush, you won't be walled anyway; m@a, you need to wall earlier than that and it's probably still going to be broken; scouts they will kill your walling vill; archers you still have some time before you need to wall. What's most important is you identify your opponent strat and react, depending on your map as well. small walls are often enough at the start of feudal and you don't waste as much time walling
@@antoninreboulet9285 Your advice is sound. But thing for me is, after scouts are out, my control and thinking are kind of pre-occupied. I think this stage as well as the time when u advancing to feudal, is the best timeframe for wall planning.
@@nemes1s_aoe It's true about scouting. But it's also related to play style and elo. If I'm playing vs a lower elo opponent or unranked, I will be more offensive than defensive.

Ok... I'm at around 1000-1100 and my dark age kinda looks like yours. Slower, sure, but pretty much the same result. The problem should be somewhere else then. Maybe a guide on the principles of feudal age play?

Thanks for the video. It's nice to have something that II can refer to whenever I have trouble remembering what I should be doing. I did think this video would be the Goth endless Militia rush though.
Hello Hera. Very good video. But my problem is: i am dark age, and opponent appear with 5 knight and kill me. How dark age? Sword hurt.
Great video. I struggle with dark age. Thanks a lot..
How do you garrison vills and automatically attack the boar when they come out?
I like this game but fuck playing like that no wonder I lose every game I play online I'm not smoking meth, taking adderall, or snorting coke to do 1000 apm
It's all like this when you play online, it's not worth the torture unless you're good, even playing against the A.I on harder difficulties is challenging! I can't beat hard, even though I watch tutorials etc, it doesn't seem to go to plan ever, everything I do seems to be countered, I create archers, they create Knights, I create Knights, they create Pikemen etc, it's so demanding, it hurts my eyes!
I mastered dark age, but feudal oh boy thats when mistakes and panic kicks in
Nice video! Subbed! How do you know how many sheep, cows, llama, turkeys e.t.c are near your base? Doing random arabia 1v1 skirmishes vs computer and I'm getting some maps with 8 llama total, is it always 8 turkey/sheep/llamma/cow e.t.c ?
Could you cover this for premill drush, 2 militia drush, etc.?
How are you moving your map? Are you edge panning or using scroll hotkeys to pan where you need to go?
Lol.
I've been practicing and was trying to figure out why even when I didn't make any mistakes I still never had even close to enough food at 20 vills to age up. Turns out I didn't realize he also got loom right before he aged up. LOL.
how you delete the walls all in once, i tried and the front walls also delete, what setting should i active or why when i double click de back walls select some of the fornt walls, please help me
From where u pop all those worker’s to kill the board
At 5:00 how is he toggling between his scout and his tc?
hotkey for TC control group for scout
Love it, hope there's a video with feudal advices
Do you look ahead when placing buildings for walls, as to where to place secondary TCs? Next to multiple resources? Having level areas, etc?
Yep i do always
@@HeraAgeofEmpires2 You have been playing phenomenally on water makes in Warlords. Great job!
@@kanedNunable so you learnt a lot in three weeks. In three weeks people can barely make it out of campaigns.
You need to scout what your opponent is doing and try to stick to the strengths of your civ.
I think what would really help noobs like me is if you would divide the video by chapters, like first 3 vil, next vil to food, and so on. You move so fast I had a rough time breaking it in to steps. But very valuable content. Thanks!
I only noticed the very same thing too😂 we are bad at this game
@@ahmadsulaymaniyah1646 I just started to think about going back to the game of my childhood and watched it so many times today! Hahah
Slowly I think I am getting it. Good luck guys!
There is a mod in game called interactive build order guide. It does exactly what you describe inside a scenario for many builds. The only thing is you have no context of what you are doing or why your build has fallen apart.
Best tutorial yet! Thank you!
Also, when do you start incorporating macros like viper? 11
you can scout with the sheep WTF
Tried to do that but I don't ubderstand how only 4 citizen farming meat can sustain the early production. It almost feels like they farm way more
You put 6 on sheep at first. He had even more than that on the boars. He only switched to 4 on meat after he paid the 500 food for Feudal Age.
How do you force drop food to the lumber camp and tc.
But you gather food quicker from Boar than sheep, how is killing the boar and then putting all vils on sheep the most efficient?
Love the videos keep it up. Ima be the best in no time 😂
Why are you not using shift + click with your units to scout?
I have a question: How long did it take to end the Dark Age, because the games appear after 9.15 minutes and the video appears less time?
Normal speed is 1.7 time. So, 1 minute IRL means 1.7 min ingame.

Would have loved to know when to hit berries.
Can you make a Video about Dark Age + Deer Push?
And what happend when the ranked gameplay is faster? Hunters finish earlyer and everything will be different?
Thanks! Would you still do it like this today, or would you go with just 2 on wood instead?
do you ever go for deer luring?
When you are trying to take notes at the speed of crack! Lol great information though still trying to follow and get out of the dark age at the sametime
CRACK!! thanks for this vid!.... do you have a video where you show your hotkeys?...
As someone who just started playing this game whadafug!
when do i kill the deer? before the boars?
hey Hera, its March 2024 is this dark age is still in meta?
Im playing this game 20 years offline i never saw a tutoriar and i was proud of reaching feudal age at 10.30-11 mins😂.. i had no idea that i can lure a boar what a shame
Hey man, awesome as always, only 1 criticism... you should've saved it then used it to do 'the perfect feudal age' 😀
I would always build a mill near the boars and deer. That's a great idea to lure them back to the TC
I lost count to how many times I've watched this thank you!! Please make one from feudal to castle next!
What is the fastest feudal time ever on lets say Arena? I have seen the guy do 8:36 with Cumans. Is it possible to go even lower?
You probably can go lower, but getting to Feudal first doesn't win you the game. It's about getting to Feudal asap with the optimal villager/resource/speed ratios for your civ/strategy so that when you hit Feudal you have the advantage over someone who just rushed their Feudal without any thought on what they would need once they got there.
I love watching even though I haven't played in forever
Please can you make a new one with like a modernised build
You about to gain a ton of new subs with the Xbox release
7:42 " didn't push deer, can't afford any scouts :( " 1111111111
very good tutorial. you are an excellent teacher dude.
Wouldn't laming be more perfect? It is according to Mbl right?
Remember when the Intro from Age of Empires 2 was about to 2 kings playing chess? Well.. This is it now?!?!
I have no idea how players that aren't playing like a maniac are able to compete with these pros dayum. I mean I like the way how you can manage everything these days in this game but something bothers me a bit like is this real fun like does it make you happy playing a maniac? 😂🤣
great video, can you talk about feudal age?
Would've love to understand more about how you use your tc fire on the boar.
there are a few guides on that on YT have a look. i think its more an efficiency thing than time saving as such tho. plus if not careful easy to kill the boar i would imagine.
2 volleys with 6 vils; he briefly explained it. Also, most people shouldn't bother.
@@kanedNunable it's more like to preserve vills HP as normally you'd be losing some hp on several vills if not using tc.
Poor boar :(
where is the build order?
impossible to follow
What's most important is you identify your opponent strat and react, depending on your map as well. small walls are often enough at the start of feudal and you don't waste as much time walling
but definitely start walling with the stable builders
@@antoninreboulet9285 Your advice is sound. But thing for me is, after scouts are out, my control and thinking are kind of pre-occupied. I think this stage as well as the time when u advancing to feudal, is the best timeframe for wall planning.
The less you scout, the more you'll want to wall. Scouting is optimal as it allows higher eco efficiency.
@@nemes1s_aoe It's true about scouting. But it's also related to play style and elo. If I'm playing vs a lower elo opponent or unranked, I will be more offensive than defensive.
where is the build order for this?
Do you have a slower version of this for brand new players? Would be super helpful!
Watch in slow mo lol
@@bradoalfredo5203 gargle deez in slow mo.
I struggle with when to upgrade the lumber camp TC etc...
i do the 1st wood upgrade as soon as i can, my logic is if i can afford it (and its cheap) its worth it. i do the farms one too before i do any farms. seems to make sense in my head but not sure if its the best thing or not?
are you using a hot key to jump to your scout quickly?
I usually number group mine for easy toggle. Ctrl + 1
Ok... I'm at around 1000-1100 and my dark age kinda looks like yours. Slower, sure, but pretty much the same result. The problem should be somewhere else then. Maybe a guide on the principles of feudal age play?
now you need to do one for each age!
"Don't scout areas you've already scouted" lol does that mean I am scouting my own house every day?
would this be the same VS AI?
great stuff man
can anyone explain me how the vills go automatically gather the sheep after build the first houses??
Shift + right click to queue actions
Can you have some more video with Feudal age, which we want to balance between economy and defence/attack, thanks a lot :D
Ok so you should now do a breakdown of this video and the thought process because people won't know what you're talking about.
How Many sheeps there should be near Town?
4 near TC and another 4 farther away.
When you need subtitles and slow motion x50 to keep up 😂 p.s great video thank you for sharing your knowledge.
I feel woozy and sick watching this. Its not a good idea to have a beer and lot into youtube 😂
So I have been wrong this whole time be going Feudal with 12 Vills? No wonder my Castle Age time is usually poor.
I always thought that was funny that you can use farm animals as your eyes and ears of the land haha
Me, playing against a friend with explored map turbo mode and regicide. Neat
